Can’t contact Xero A little note for anyone out there looking to move to Xero Accounting. Xero will not allow you to contact them, except via their non customer friendly Xero Central. Xero will not take phone calls. Xero will not take emails. They don’t do “chat”. At all. Does that say enough about their customer service? This is just one of their many, many faults. Their customer service is genuinely the worst that I or anyone at our company have ever seen in a combined 200 years working with software packages. I strongly urge you, if you’re considering Xero as an accounting package, to think again and do your research first. They do not and will not listen to their customers. Don’t take my word for it, do your research and you’ll find out. There are dozens of requests to their product development and customer service, for VERY BASIC accounting functionality, some of which are ongoing for around 10 YEARS and despite hundreds of customers making the same request in some cases, they still choose to ignore it. It’s hard to leave an accounting package, once you get involved but I promise you, that you will, once you see how terrible this company is, how little regard they have for paying customers, how silly some of the issues are and once you get the time to go through the whole change process again. It has some good features but unfortunately they are overcome by the poor ones.

There are so many negatives, it's hard to know where to start They can't be contacted so if you have a problem, you'll have it for a long time (or maybe forever) VAT retrun period can't be closed. So someone can amend an invoice or bill or add one in to a previous VAT period, which of course screws everything up You can't set a date for stock to arrive. When you make the order, the system assumest that it's now in stock! You can't save two customers with the same name! They will tell you to add a special character to duplicate names! Unbelievable but true! There are no delivery notes/packing slips. They tout a "workaround" but be warned, it's exactly 10 extra clicks so it's really not an option if you need this feature If you want to send a document after preparing it, first you have to save it, wait for it to save, it takes you out to a main screen, you have to click back into it and then send it (if you send directly, it will send a draft document only) Invoice, quotation, calendar functions are jumpy and extremely diffult to edit. This applies to all browsers, incognito modes, etc., it's just a really bad editor. If you enter a contact's account, system brings open documents to the top even if these are quotes which are no longer needed. Invoices, quotes, payments are then all muddled up together is it's very hard to see what you want. Extremely badly designed in this regard. If you create a Draft invoice, it takes a sequential number. This screws up your sequences.

We've suggested Xero to a few clients and even forced them to switch from their current accounting software because of how much superior it is than its competitors.

Pros

If you're not an accountant, Xero is still simple and straightforward to use. Daily operations are based on the straightforward processes of making payments to suppliers and receiving money. It's the best option for a company of that size. It's simple and straightforward to use this accounting software to keep track of your company's money. This program is something I use constantly.

Cons

Xero is designed for small businesses, therefore it has basic restrictions (journal approvals, etc.). As a company's billing operations reach a certain mass, they outgrow a single Xero instance and require the use of many instances running in parallel to process all of the bills.

Having used Xero since 2013, I am yet to find a better product. The software and the overall company have never missed a beat. They are continually adding features (see Hubdoc integration, transparent, have competitive pricing, and connect accountants with business (refer to Xerocon events).

Pros

Xero has everything for startup companies and small businesses. Their software is 10 out 10 on user interface. It was born in the cloud and continues to exceed Quickbooks by a long shot. Most everything Quickbooks has added to its software in the past 10 years, is because Xero did it first.

Cons

The software does not have a tax add-on when compared to Quickbooks (Intuit). They are plenty of integrations to solve this issue but it would be nice to have. Integrating bill payment is more difficult compared to Quickbooks as well.

Reason for choosing Xero

Xero has better pricing, pricing options, features (fixed assets module), reporting, integrations, reconciling than its competitors. For example, if you import 500 transactions into Quicks incorrectly, you have to delete them all one by one. You can batch delete data in Xero. Quickbooks also does not have cash vs accrual basis accounting. You literally cannot make accrual journals in Quickbooks.

My overall experience with Xero has been very productive. Xero is a robust and feature-rich accounting tool which gives us the best accounting services from bookkeeping, billing, invoicing, financial reporting and much more.

Pros

Xero ease of use plays a key role to its success when using it to meet your accounting needs. It has a very robust and intuitive user interface which gives users an easy time accessing its features and using the features to achieve their needs. It had very outstanding bookkeeping services which allows you to easily collect, assemble and securely store all your financial documents and receipts in an easily accessible location. Xero also provides successful expenses tracking features which allows you to track all your bills, check on your accounts payable as well as having a clear view of your cash flow. Another masterstroke in Xero is the ability to integrate it with other payment gateways like Stripe which makes it possible to accept online payments conveniently. Xero also helps one have a clear understanding of your business by generating accurate financial reports which gives clear insights on the health of your business financially.

Cons

Xero has really worked well for me and my team. I have literally nothing ill to talk about it nor do i have anything to complain about.

It has provided a solution for more than 200 of our clients of varying sizes and complexities.

Pros

Xero is first and foremost easy to use and benefits from clever AI functionality. Keeping an eye on the business is much easier via Xero as it shows a snapshot of key data on the dashboard. With the available integrations there are very little limitations to its use and it is well priced for the majority of our clients

Cons

The Payroll module is quite clunky and better options are out there in our opinion. An enhanced cash flow and adding a forecasting element within the software would help. Making it easier to post customer payments on account would also improve an already good product

Overall, Xero is an essential, complete and easy tool to use it.- Great interface making it easier to reconcile payments received or made, almost like a game!- It tracks the history of the invoices- It keeps all the records for tax purposes or for financial analysis.

Pros

Although it has a lot of features, it is pretty straightforward to use it. At least for the basics, as the tool is designed not only for business owners but for accountants and bookkeepers to work cohesively.

Cons

For invoicing, it could have another field to insert a text or a location or even a date. Not that it's a major issue not having specific fields for it.But one thing that seems to bother our clients a lot is the automatic reminder that gets sent before it updates the latest payments received or made. Quite often we received emails from clients complaining about the reminder sent (normally around 5 am) when they actually paid a day before.

A beautiful piece of software that turns a once tedious chore, into an easy and intuitive process. I always recommend my clients to use Xero (if they can afford to) as I believe it makes the workflow much smoother and simpler for everyone involved.

Pros

As an accountant and bookkeeping business owner I have been using accounting software for well over 10 years. I have to say when Xero entered the market I was definitely curious as to what it could bring to the market. I believe Xero have captured a very nice niche of the industry with it's very business orientated user interface and simplisitic feel. It makes accounting somewhat fun for the business owner. The way that they have revolutionized the way the bank reconciliation is performed makes it easier for buiness owner and accountant/bookkeeper to work together. I love the comments functionality and the rules that can be set to repeating transactions. The AI in the bank reconciliation also has a very nice balance to it. It will allocate your transactions when you need it to, but not too aggressively - meaning you don't have to undo all the automatic allocations (unlike some other software like MYOB). They also have a lot of resources to help business owners and financial professionals. In addition they make continual updates to their software to adapt to the times.

Cons

I think the biggest con of the software is the price tag. Many of my clients have found this to be a stumbling block, saying that the monthly subscription fee is too high for their business. Other than the price, the only other con is the support is only via email (this is the last time I had an issue which was a few months ago). They do not have a support contact phone line (in Australia at least) - so response has to be via email (which may lead onto a call later if it cannot be resolved by email). Which takes longer to resolve the issues.

I like that it did what it had to do, this suffer is a very complete software. It has a lot of integrations. You can integrate it with almost every single financial analysis, software available, and with all the banking within the US.

I find that the interface needs work, I think that famous software like this should be able to edit or personalize the interface

Overall experience is smooth and very user-friendly. At first, we had some trouble to understand, how this system works. but eventually, our staff adopted the system well. No more confusion. This is a great system, because of Ease Of Use of it. Xero is a cloud based accounting system which will bring easy access and mobility to user at anytime from anywhere in the world. Mobile App is an another good way to track your invoices and payments while your are on the way. Cost is very reasonable when it compares with other competitors. We used Xero mainly for invoicing and Payroll. So far we didn't face any technical issues or other issues. customer support is great. with the Xero API Integration, we can linkup with almost any 3rd party system available like Google Services. Customizing Financial Reports has been easy with Xero Accounting System.

Cons

It needs more tutorials. Because this system is not very user-friendly with the people who has a little knowledge in accounting and financing. Customer Support also can be improved.

As a Vrtual Assistant I have problems in sending invoice to the employees of my clients around the globe, luckily I discover Xero which have that feature and solves my problem. The best thing about it is you can use your mobile phone to customize it before sending it to them and that what makes it more efficient for me.

What I like the most in Xero is invoicing, you can basically send invoice instantly using your mobile phone, accept payment instantly, customize your online invoices and a lot more.

I am very satisfied to be building my practice on Xero. They have a good product with a good company behind it. They seem to really care about their advisors and see them as key to their business model. They have a great community and great support.

Pros

What I like most about Xero is its open-platform ethos. It's not one particular feature, it's the whole way that Xero approaches what it does, and it shows up all over the product. One small example is how easy it is to manually import bank transactions via CSV file, and then how easy it is to undo that import if it went wrong. It's less about features (although Cash Coding and Find & Recode are brilliant) and more about design choices.

Cons

I want them to hurry up and integrate Hubdoc into Xero itself. And when that happens, I want there to be a way to generate a report that shows which GL transactions don't have a source document.

Reason for choosing Xero

In the end, I decided that the ability to integrate apps was going to be determinative over the long term. Xero and QBO are way out in front when it comes to integration and I expect that as the market matures, they will end up with a Coke-and-Pepsi-level of market dominance. They may already be there. Early on, I tried to get someone to sell me Accounting Power and/or Sage 50, but neither company seemed organized enough to close the sale. I was looking for a software partner that I could build my practice on and Xero were the ones who showed me they wanted to be that and had a plan to make it happen.

My first experience with accounting software was with Xero. Customers genuinely love using it. We even used to offer services through it primarily. Our work benefitted immensely from it. It is incredibly cost-effective and user-friendly.

Pros

In comparison to other providers, it offers relatively affordable monthly packages. It has a great link with banks. The AI is quite strong. Comparatively speaking, the UI is incredibly user-friendly.

Cons

The customization and invoicing are the only negative aspects. Sometimes there is a partial sync off of the data. Other than a few minor issues, it is perfect for small enterprises

I 100% recommend Xero to both established and small companies because ever since we began to this system it has operated efficiently to assigned duties and there errors to worry about.

Pros

I like mostly payroll management as it simplifys the calculation of employees hours, paying employees, withholding taxes among others.The sus is easy to use and has good user interface.

Cons

The most thing I hate is data transfer since it requires the use of external storage unit to move data. This is because it only operates on one computer.

Pros

Nothing. After moving from Reckon Accounts desktop to sync with our Project Management software, I am regretting the move. We are looking elsewhere

Cons

Lack of customisable reports. Lack of aging in statements. Lack of support for state payroll tax. The way that Xero counts credit cards as an asset and not a liability. The way that "bank reconciliations" are done. The deafening silence from Xero staff in Xero Central.

Love it--definitely recommend having a professional do your original set up and then automating, syncing, and integrating whatever features you can for the simplest bookkeeping thereafter.

Pros

I would assume Xero is the industry standard now for digital, cloud-based accounting and financial record keeping. An all-in-one solution, I recommend only using the features needed for your business stage and size--otherwise, the software can be 'too big' for smaller businesses. (Only pay for what you need!)That said, once it's properly set up and automated very easy to use. Recommend having a professional set up your dashboard and accounts in the beginning and then automating for the easiest use after that.

Cons

The software can be quite 'deep'--in that, even extremely large Enterprises with complex accounting needs can use Xero because of its varying features. Only use and pay for what you need--otherwise, you risk overcomplicating what could be basic business accounting.

My overall experience has been very good. I am using this for sending invoices for many years for my business and it has been great. I has professional invoices format and also has professional quote formats.

Pros

The best part about this software is invoicing. I just love the invoicing part. I add and send invoices within minutes. I Format is also very professional and it also has many pre defined formats to choose from.

Cons

The only thing it could improve is the number of invoicing per user. I feel it is quite expensive and gives less number of invoices.

This product has single handedly grown my business. During tax season where every minute counts I find that I can have great year end conversations with clients and advise them appropriately the first week in January and have everything processed and done by the end of January.

Pros

Fixed asset register is something that was always missing in QBO Clean looking. Not a lot of clutter on page

Email support instead of live person. But the Xero community is great and they are always willing to help.

I stumbled on Xero in 2007ish. Loved that it was not trying to be anything other than a ledger, and it was simple for me to teach my client to use.

### "Affordable professional level accounting software for small business"

It's been easier to use Xero than I expected, but I had a nasty surprise at tax time when I realized the default accounts/descriptions for expenses did not correlate 1:1 to IRS categories. (I should have checked this more closely when I set up my accounts because it's a New Zealand company, and the previous product was local.) This means I will need to double-check all my transactions for 2018 and the IRS has my vastly overestimated tax payment until I can do that and file my return on an extension. I've had a much better experience importing data from financial institutions because Xero uses a well-known importing service that is trusted by the institutions. I like being able to match multiple invoices to bank deposits because I usually don't run to the bank for each check. This will be more valuable as my company grows. I should probably find an accountant to assist me with this, but I haven't found an accountant who understands both craft businesses and Xero.

Pros

Professional double entry software at a very affordable price Accommodates both cash and accrual accounting Links to financial institutions to get transactions Uses standard importer recognized by the financial institutions instead of just trying to log in remotely (and triggering fraud alerts) Can match multiple invoices to a single deposit transaction imported from bank Can keep using Xero as company grows

Pre-existing expense categories/descriptions don't map 1:1 with IRS definitions, so I'm having to go back to all my receipts to make sure expenses are entered in proper accounts because I didn't realize this when I switched More difficult to focus on specific expense categories to check transactions Have not been able to import historic data from previous app (possibly because it's not double entry) so I am still paying the subscription on that software to retain access to my data No integration with Craftybase, so I have to enter supply purchases and customer invoices there independently

QuickBooks introduced a special product for Etsy integration, but early adopters had problems with data disappearing and no way to recover it. Otherwise, the cost of QuickBooks to cover the same features I use in Xero would have been very expensive; even a QB consultant told me it's overkill for a business of my size. I forget which other products I looked at, but Xero was recommended by several owners of similar businesses.

Xero took me from relying solely on the word and opinion of my Accounts Officer and Treasurer, to actually being able to read and understand financial reports. P&L's and balance sheets. Xero's ease of use also lead me to quickly be able to confidently action financial matters myself if needed, which was never an option with the previous software used. I would encourage every small business to use Xero.

Pros

So very easy to use once it is all set up. the reporting is clean and easy to understand, invoicing is seamless and account reconciliation is simple.

Cons

Migrating from MYOB or another accounting software can be time consuming, however this would happen with any software.

Overall, Xero is great accounting software available in the clould. Its ability to allow workers to work remotely and monitor work is highly useful. It has great accounting tools at your fingertips. The great selection of integrations also help with syncing workflows and tasks cross different platforms like document collections and processing, job management and payment processing.

Pros

There is a constant improvement of the Xero Blue platform with new integrations coming all the time (like the Karbon integration for contact sync just announced) The Dashboard is highly intuitive and gives an up to date snapshot of the business when you loginThe ability to create reports is highly useful, especially the new update that gives a modern interface with features like budgets for P & L Statements. The ingratiations (an constantly expanding selection)

Cons

Features like HubDoc that come with Xero have not been updated in years. When compared to their competitors like DEXT they are severely lacking in features and usability. Xero invoicing is very basic, no ability for direct debit payments, no engagement letter etc. Document management software like Suitfiles needs to be used, there is currently no direct integration for document management like Karbon has. Integrations into Xero Green (XPM) basic, XPM has not been updated in many years and to an overhaul to compete. Pricing when compared to software like software assistant is more premium.

Xero allows us to run our accounts and manage staff expenses very simply and quickly. Overall it is a very easy system to use and has cut down a considerable amount of admin time. Overall it is positive, however, you can get caught out with the add on's needed to raise it from a very basic software.

Pros

The interface is very simplistic. The headings are very clear and the day to day using of the software is very easy to teach to new staff. The expenses app allows individual staff members to load their own documents cutting down admin time considerably.

Cons

A lot of the figures that you would like to see at quick glance like total spend with each supplier are not immediately apparent unless you run the correct search.

### "Xero is the golden standard for online accounting"

Great bit of kit for small, medium and large businesses. Can be used integrated with your software stack to automate tasks and make things easier across your organisation.

Pros

Xero is really easy to use and if you get stuck you can google answers and most of them are there in the search engine. If you need support, they're responsive and happy to assist. Overall a brilliant platform. No desire to move software.

Cons

There's not much to dislike really. Possibly the way that they block analytics and reporting features to upsell you but it doesn't harm the overall experience as we just don't use some functionality.

Overall, my experience with Xero has been extremely positive. I found the transition to the platform smooth and straightforward. The intuitive user interface allowed me to get started with the software quickly without the need for extensive training. I’m now able to easily manage invoices, payments, and track expenses. The integrations with banks and payment apps enabled me to automate financial processes. The reporting and dashboards helped me make better decisions to grow my business. I'm very happy with choosing Xero as my accounting solution, and would recommend any startup to consider it.

Pros

What I liked most about Xero was its user-friendly interface. The dashboard is simple and streamlined, allowing me and my accounting team to use the software smoothly even without extensive accounting background. I also enjoy the mobile access on phones and tablets, enabling me to manage accounting tasks anywhere. Additionally, the seamless integration with other banking and invoicing apps is great. Overall, Xero is easy to use and helpful for handling the day-to-day accounting of my business.

Cons

What I liked least about Xero was the limited custom reporting options. While Xero provides many standard financial reports, the ability to customize reports or create more complex accounting reports is restricted. So sometimes I need to export data to Excel to build custom reports. It also lacks advanced support for inventory or manufacturing accounting. But overall, Xero covers my needs as a small business for now, and I expect the platform will continue improving over time.
