Kanopy has found to serve its needs well, but ultimately we moved on and migrated to NetSuite years later. We still keep Xero though for 1 international subsidiary that we found to be advantageous not to migrate. The mature business with complex operations may not find all needs are met with Xero, especially if the desire is to integrate many other tools/software with the ERP in a bi-directional data flow.

Pros

serves well as an "out of the box" accounting system, not unlike Quickbooks. It also has more functionality and use internationally, making it a superior choice to QB if your business operates on a global, multicurrency basis. There are some solid automations which can be implemented with Xero as well, and the canned reporting generally suffices for the majority of basic financial needs.

Cons

lacks the open customization options that software like Netsuite or Dynamics offers. For a small business this will often be fine, but a scaling operation looking to automate many functions based on unique business needs may someday find they have outgrown Xero and need to undergo an (often painful) ERP migration.

### "Concerns with Xero"

We've been using for about two years now. There have been a few hiccups along the way but for the most part things have been ok. Recently however, we've had a problem with our bank feed uploading into Xero in order to reconcile transactions. We first encountered this issue on 2/10/18. We informed Xero and they said they would look into the issue. A couple of weeks went by without hearing anything about the feed working as it should. We contacted them again and they said they were still working on the issue but that we could manually download the transactions ourselves in the meantime. Today is 4/10/18 (2 months later) and they still have not fixed the issue. We are still having to manually download these transactions ourselves in order to reconcile our bank accounts within the Xero software. I spoke with Xero this morning and they still do not have a timeline for when this will be fixed. They said they use an outside company to perform the importing of bank feeds functions and that they are not responsible for it not working. They said when we signed up for the Xero service we were informed about the possibility of the feed possibly cutting out at some point in the fine print (terms & conditions). They refuse to issue any sort of refund for their monthly service during this time of inconvenience because they say the bank feed import function is a free service offered by a third party. The problem we have is that Xero is marketing this service as part of their overall monthly service package which you assume is really included in your monthly service fee you pay to them. When it doesn't work they take no accountability for it not working. We think it's very deceptive for them to market a service (bank import functionality) to prospective buyers, which you assume is included with your monthly service fee, but then take no responsibility for it not working when things breakdown. We believe they do this to gain a competitive advantage over other companies like Quickbooks. Instead of just charging for the bank import service which would increase their monthly service fee and make them less competitive on a price basis with their competition they artfully setup their service to be able to offer a more competitive price but not assume any of the responsibility when the service doesn't work as expected. The general consumer doesn't think to put this deceptive tactic together when they sign up for the service and Xero assumes once they have you onboard you'll deal with the issue until they can get it fixed because switching accounting software companies at a later date is extremely inconvenient.

Pros

The service accomplishes most of what it was intended to do albiet at a bit of a learning curve for the new user.

Cons

There is no customer service support number to call. Bank feeds do not work properly. IOS app is mising some functionaility

allows our accountant to do NZ GST easily.I tried quoting and invoicing from within Xero and it was not good enough for my requirements.So I now quote and invoice separately and duplicate that into Xero.

Pros

if easy and intuitive to use.You start using it and work out what your need to do and if required fix previous mistakes easily.

Cons

I think it is a traditional accounting tool, accountants love it.If that is the objective, then more effort should go into making the data entry / user requirements aligned for business users not accountants.A business decides what to sell, quotes it, produces or orders in the goods and the invoices it.To decide what I want to sell, I always start with an Excel spreadsheet to work out a pricing model. This helps me find any gotchas with pricing - did I include all the costs, does this item need other items to make it work, is freight going to be significant and lastly is the buy pricing readily available.

I switched from quickbooks and am never looking back. It is easy, beautiful, functional, and I get paid fast without having to swallow big payment processing fees.

Pros

Easy billing, easy expense tracking, clear and easy to customize reports. Easy AND functional

Cons

real time customer support would be better than waiting 24 hrs or so for a reply, which could then add up to a week of back and forth that could be resolved in minutes.

is a fantastic accounting tool that combines all accounting functions into a single platform allowing one to do it all just from a single product. From billing, invoicing, expenses tracking, inventory, bookkeeping, financial reporting and all that from a single product. It provides very powerful analytics functions that helps analyze and have transparency on cash flow, track metrics and understand the financial health of your organization. It provides a fast and easy wat for tracking and paying bills as well as getting a very clear overview of accounts payable. It allows you to connect your account with your bank so as to make transactions faster. It has very effective security functions which keeps all data very safe from any security breaches.

Cons

There is no feature in that i have found difficult to use. I have nothing that i have found in Xero that is not effective.

The transition from our old accounting software to was very straight forward. This was down to the great GUI provided by Xero.

Pros

The appearance of makes the whole experience faultless. New users are able to quickly adapt to it and know what to do. It's incredibly intuitive. It is a fresh layout and, dare I say, fun to use.

Cons

The support, when required, isn't as great as we used to receive from Sage. I have no major grumbles about them, but they don't come across with the same level of customer service.

### "XERO reconciliation is an issue"

Overall, it's a decent program, with all the bells and whistles you'd expect from a cloud based accounting program. Unfortunately working without being able to reconcile monthly made life too difficult. And not many accountants work with it, so that made it difficult to have professional eyes on my accounting.

Pros

I loved how easy it was to integrate with my bank accounts and Paypal. XERO seamlessly connected and kept my balances up to date. I also liked how easy it was to invoice clients and connect invoices to Paypal or Stripe.

Cons

Unfortunately, the reconciliation process in is a no-go for me. Rather than the Quickbooks and standard approach, where you do a monthly reconciliation against a bank statement, XERO had no such function. Once an item was matched up to a bank transaction, it was considered "reconciled." No option to close out a month and double-check transactions. I went back to QBO to get that feature.

Pros

the ability to drill down on any entry is quick and easy. the reports are very easily tailored and the app is so useful on the move

the payroll is probably my least favourite function. the payslips are a bit clunky and often need explaining to employees

I am so pleased with how has enabled me to get my books in order. I no longer have to record my income and expenses on a spreadsheet. I now have the ability to run a report whenever I want to check up on my profit.

Pros

is very user friendly by including tips and hints throughout the set up process. Their support is extremely helpful and the knowledge base always has an answer to my questions. I am always on the go, so their app allows me to record expenses, send invoices and even reconcile bank transaction while I’m out and about! Everything is on the cloud so I can use this software wherever I am in the world. I am slowly working through the Xero Central courses in order to learn as much as I can about this amazing software.

Cons

There is nothing I have come across so far that is missing or needs improving.

We came to from Sage and has changed the way we manage our accounts, and helped the team be more productive.

Pros

customer service is great, even for an SMB like ours, we get good response times and knowledgeable people. the system is very easy to use and has great functionality for managing our sales and supplier invoices so that we can keep track of our cashflow accurately. Apps library is great and has everything that we need.

Cons

certain functionality around automation and AI is not there but can be added via connected apps.

Pros

is incredibly easy to pick up and use, even with little training. There are countless articles and forums online, so any question and process can be understood very easily. The reports and transaction listing are easy to navigate, though you have to manually adjust a lot of settings every time (ie the setting are not carried forwards, despite having default reports set). The bank reconciliations are easy with direct bank connection (except for Credit cards, which have to be imported manually). The ability to set up rules makes reconciliation really quick and easy. The STP compliance is made super easy and seamless.

Cons

Some of the new reports, while looking pretty, lack the functionality of the old reports, which have now been removed. One of the key missing functionality is being able to compare projects across one period. The foreign currency gains and losses are also hard to navigate if you use it. is still recording FX movements from a bank account that has been closed for multiple years. Overall, if you need to do any analysis, budgeting and deep dives into your data, you will be doing it outside of Xero.

Pros

As long as you know what you are doing, is an okay platform.

Cons

Customer support is terrible. Do not plan on getting any help if you have any questions. If something goes wrong, you will just have to deal or figure it out on your own because offers no help. I have been using for several years at the advice from my accountant. At this point, I am counting down the days until I can get rid of it and move on to another software strictly due to the lack of customer support when something goes wrong, which it always does. Integration with other Software is mediocre at best. Not a lot of companies know about Xero and do not integrate with Xero. This is where all the issues come in to play because when you can not get connected or have any support to contact to get answers, nothing really works well.Very disappointed in the customer support. Looking forward to going back to QuickBooks.

Excellent and couldn't recommend more for start ups.

Pros

The simplicity of the entire offering cannot be beat. The user interface is just so intuitive and helpful we really enjoy it. Payroll and bank reconciliations are a breeze.

Cons

The major drawback is limited inventory functionality as well as the inability to split POs once goods are received. is great for digital companies but manufacturers or goods based companies will need bolt on solutions.

Solid and simple cloud accounting solution that is easy to navigate and customise. Great that our external accountants and legal support can access online as they need. Seems to be continuously evolving and its reassuring to see ongoing development of the product.

Pros

Customisable dashboard is a time saver and ability to customise templates helps with consistency for our company branding. Customisation of user permissions means the bonus of staff being able to enter their own expenses which is a further time saver. Being able to work across multiple currencies now is a plus, albeit I wish we could manually adjust exchange rates being used.

Cons

Many advanced features that are standard for longer established accounting software solutions are available, but as "bolt on" packages, so costs can escalate quickly if you need full "bells and whistles". Customer service response can be very slow compared to other cloud software providers we use - in the beginning they were responsive for engagement but over time they're clearly pushing all customers towards getting answers from their user community and/or through the Q&A section. I appreciate that customer service probably don't want to be wasting time with queries better addressed by professional book-keepers or accountants, but in our instance, as "advanced users", our customer service queries tend to be related to technical challenges with the product. It would be great of could analyse the types of queries coming from their customers and perhaps have a priority helpline on offer for "low maintenance" subscribers.

The capture of documents and bank integration is a huge plus for this business. Overall the I have had little frustrations with and found it easy to use. Teaching myself most of the processes and was able to find "how to do" articles for the any help that I required.

Pros

What is good about this program is that I found learning a very quick process, with no training I could navigate through modules and figure out "how to" with ease. The delivery of invoices into the system is an awesome feature, emailing these to the program itself saves on the need to keep paper base filing as these can be stored on the system. The bank statement integration is great for reconciling against purchases and income. The favourites in the reports section is good to go to the reports I need quickly. The Payroll function is also quite easy to use.

Cons

For a small business software package there is not much wrong with the program, maybe some navigating issues with having to loop through menus to go back to one step but this is minimal compare the pros. The General ledger reports and transactions is something a small business would hand over to an accountant so maybe make it more user friendly to someone use to using larger systems and not so simplified.

I would rate it highest among similar software available in the market.

Pros

We are a large organisation but have acquired multiple other businesses so I got a chance to use the best thing about Xero that other software does not have are: 1 - Can store and upload files by sending an email as well which not all software has. 2 - BAS reports in Australia can be quickly prepared and lodged from Xero to ATO (which saves a lot of time). 3 - Can customize most of the reports and this help support migrations from Xero to other software or vice versa.

Cons

Should expand their customer base to large organisations by allowing Fixed asset registers and more syncretization with third-party plugins or software.

is quick to reconcile but so are the other brand options. I am making a lot of money for my accountant because I always need to ring and get help.

Pros

Easy reconciliation but this is a feature of most brands now.

Cons

Reports are impossible to configure and source the data I need. The layout is poor and not user friendly. The technical terms used are common to accountants but make no sense to small business operators. The online help is useless and takes forever to get a response. Feature requests are ignored and not even responded to. There are other brands that offer a much easier user interface and at a fraction of the cost. I was forced into as it was the only brand my accountant would support. I have to ring the accountants for help all the time who change a fortune for simple advice. Every feature I need is an extra add on charge. The remember me at login does not work and I have to waste time with 2 step login every time I leave the computer for 5 minutes. XERO does not work well on the tablet. The bank feeds do not deliver all the transaction data detail and its very difficult to identify some businesses. Memorizing transactions and splitting purchases is a real time-waster.
