The program is very cool, useful, and very intelligent. It helped me a lot in creating the chart of accounts for the organization and defining it in a big way. Besides, its price was very reasonable compared to other programs. Cons The program has some problems as there are no continuous updates to the program. It does all of the functions it needs to for a small to medium business to operate Cons The functionality of the software is sometimes limited and can hamstring business or mean that workarounds have to be found. As an example alternate softwares allow the administrator to assign levels of authority to each user so that you can have multiple layers of users with varying degrees of access, which is something Xero does incredibly poorly, there is one level of authority to adjust which conveys next to no permissions to the user meaning the software cannot be used. Pros Xero have been designed to be used by non-account business folks. However, once the data has been listed an accountant has a great tool to use to finish the company financial records (Monthly, Quarterly & Annually). It is also priced at a rate that works for most business owners. Cons I really do not know of any areas within the software that I can list as "Least" liked. I do not know of any significant problems which I believe need correcting. I can pull data so effortlessly and view the data cut in the various ways I want it rapidly. Pros The integrations Xero provide is the best feature. It saves so much time and allows one to do so much more than using it to do accounting. Cons The bank feed connections often drop. I understand though the issue might lie with the banks and so there might not be much Xero can do about it. Reason for choosing Xero In the end, our accountant chose Xero for us. It has many of the good built in features like trail, auditing, taxation, invoices, and billing e.t.c. Cons In starting of this software to seek the attention of the accountants and to generate more clients the developer has said that in addition to this software the final accounts creating software and taxation software is also under development but the time has passes and we have seen nothing from the developer in addition to this software. October 10, 2023 4.0 It does help do the basic functions of VAT etc. I do like it but technical issues happen all too often. I haven't changed provider due to the time involved in doing so. Pros Ease of use, intuitive. Lots of good features, but I don't use most of them Cons Constant issues with bank feeds from my HSBC Kinetic app account. Caused me countless hours trying to sort duplicate bank lines and transactions. Actually cost me money as needed my accountants to investigate it all. The issue is still not resolved a year on despite me submitting support requests to get it fixed. Cons More record keeping on the intro screen would help a lot without having to jump to other screens. July 25, 2019 5.0 Pros \- Brilliant design and straight forward full accounting system yet detailed enough to allow user to create management reports. - It allows direct bank feed letting the book-keepers not to worry about importing bank statements and processing detailed bank reconciliations. - It also integrates with third party softwares to import direct feed which helps automation possible helps save time. - It also offers partner programs for external book-keepers and accountants to work on different client books which is a new features other softwares have failed to offer. - Great price. Cons \- Payroll function is capable to deal with straight forward payroll matters. when dealing with complex calculation, Xero seems limited in its functionality. - The tracking categories are limited to only two lists. It would have been great if it would have had an option to increase the number of categories to suit individual need. If there were other options, I wouldn't hesitate to move. The holes make growing the business next to impossible. Pros At first, it's easy to like. Then, when you need more out of it (bank feeds, your choice of credit card processors, interest on overdue invoices, etc.) it starts to fall apart. Several of those features were requested over 8 years ago. They haven't responded yet. Cons No email support. No Phone support. No way to ask for important features to be added. We easily scaled from simple account reconciliation through to every aspect of our accounting needs flawlessly. Pros This product is super easy to use whether you're new to accounting or an experienced professional. Everything from account reconciliation to payroll to VAT returns to management accounts is super well laid out. If you ever have any questions, a plethora of tutorials or guides is readily available as well. I can't recommend this product enough for a business of any size. Cons I can't really think of any cons to using Xero. The only bit I would slightly approve is the budgeting tool which I found to be not so intuitive. Everything else worked flawlessly. Colourist Broadcast Media Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Powerful software that's too expensive for sole-traders" July 31, 2020 4.0 Xero is excellent for book-keeping my own business, although the learning curve was very difficult (and I've had this feedback too from friends and family who use Xero too) and every month when the service is charged I find it difficult to justify the cost of it - it is far too expensive for a sole trader. That being said, it has significantly eased my book-keeping and the auto-reminders for clients regarding invoices has reduced a lot of stress. There are alternative services that seem to offer service parity for sole traders that are half the price (i.e. Rounded) that do look appetising, however the inability to export my data offline is a problem, and accountants prefer to use Xero. Pros Excellent feature set including bank reconciles, quoting, invoicing, auto-reminders, ability to share with accountant Cons Very difficult and stressful to learn, far too expensive for sole traders (needs a better suited plan for sole-traders), too many periods of unexpected down-time per year, inability to export data offline for backing up or long term archival, needs better systems for tracking expenses from other accounts that aren't banking related (i.e. transport cards where expenses could be claimed for travel).
