Office Manager Events Services Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Goof software for small businesses" March 31, 2022 4.0 I find Xero pretty easy to use after using it daily for a couple weeks. We use it for all accounts payable and receivable, as well as invoicing customers who we ship products out to. Pros It's easy to set up items and accounts, apply payments and send invoices. Also, there are a number of reporting options available. Cons I wish it was harder to have duplicate accounts. For example, sometimes our bookkeeper will make a slight typo when inputting a Contact name for a payment (maybe missing a letter or adding an apostrophe), so a new record will be created and then we'll have 2 Contacts for the same person/org. I wish there was some type of pop-up, like "Are you sure you don't mean this Contact?" before creating a duplicate record. Review Source AA Adrian A. Business Development Manager Accounting Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Xero - Leading the way to making accounting much easier for small businesses" May 17, 2017 5.0 I have been a Xero certified advisor for 8 years and actually returned the accounting profession because of Xero after deciding to leave because I felt the industry didn't understand delivering value to clients. Xero has been a catalyst for increasing the speed of change in the industry towards a value proposition model. Although like any system success with does come down to using it properly and being prepared to spend the time to understand how it works and to make the most of it, but Xero has been built so intuitively and they have Pros Great design, intuitive, great support files and videos, invoicing features are very good, being able to add files to transactions is a big time saver, the fact that it is a full accounting system is great in its price range, although for more complex features you may need an add-on application for example full stock management and stock control. Cons The way the contacts database has been developed could be improved to make importing and exporting data easier, that has improved recently with the addition of client codes field. Pros Xero gives you whatever you need, connects you with other departments such as creating a purchase order for employee hiring and instantly send notification to accounting departments, making them match the correct invoice with the correct purchase order. In addition to that, expense tracking an employee is a great feature that lets you to have a helicopter view of it. Can be used in small or large companies, very effective and efficient features. October 16, 2019 4.0 Generally good, but at this price point and with the Client base we have, there are more accessible easier to learn options available at much more competitive prices. Pros Very full function set with excellent reporting. Does everything well Customer support is quick and they do try to fix things. Cons Some glaring failures in coding. Over the last 5 years have found large holes in areas one would not expect. The back-up files we discovered were wholly inadequate and useless to reconstruct anything from. (Now rectified) The VAT reporting for MTD has been laughable, with poorly thought out process leading to the possibility of corrupt data. Fixes have been put in place, but the users should not be used for real time software testing. More thoroughness and care needed Reason for choosing Xero Xero is one of many packages we use, and definitely a good product but not our preferred option. With our Client base it is a little over-complicated for them to use easily and a little more costly than required. While Xero still allows us to state in the invoice we accept checks, the ability to link directly to the payment portal has increased credit card payments by 75% which increase our efficiency in processing and closing out accounts. Pros We love the intuitive nature of the software that allows us to quickly craft an invoice and have that PDF invoice hyperlinked to the payment portal section of Xero. In addition the ability to track when a client has opened allows little room for any excuses for late invoice payments. Cons We send a very limited amount of invoices per month, so the cost to invoice ratio can be a bit high when broken down. A pay per invoice price structure might be a better method for those that only send 5-6 invoices a month. September 1, 2023 3.0 The service is one sided. The changes made are forced on customers and there are no workarounds. Logging in is a 3 step process unless you want to sign up for ANOTHER app to authenticate. I’ve hit my limit on the price increases with no viewable improvements. They are a publicly traded company, slapping high 5s for every annual price increase. Pros The platform is fairly easy to use and the app is ok. I'm a self-employed artist and I've been using a site like zohobook and Quickbooks for years to keep track of my income and expenses. But I don't have time for that now that I'm trying to build my art business and I'm so happy I found Xero. It's so easy to use and I can access it from my phone or computer. They send you a free trial so you can test it out before you pay for it and you can also sign up for a free consultation if you need help getting started. Pros Xero accounting cloud-based software is easy to use. You can start Xero free of cost for 30 days trial. We used the integrations to Tradegecko and Arlo and it worked excellent. For large businesses you might want to have an all in one solution for inventory management, CRM etc but for small to medium enterprises it feels perfect. We have had a bit of trouble importing bank data once but Xero sorted everything out without problems. We actually wish Xero would also be available in Germany so that we can use it for our branch there! Pros The best about Xero is that it just works. It is well established so that there are no major bugs, it has all functions you need (reporting, different accounts, cost centres), all templates can be customised, the account balance can be imported directly from the bank and there are many integrations for other tools available. Cons Xero sometimes does major updates (which is good) but then everything suddenly looks different and it takes a while to get used to it again and find all functions. Review Source KG Karen G. Quite ridiculous for a financial platform Its my view that they do not provide this as there are so many report providers in the marketplace with add ons to Xero for this, so they won't include it when you could go and pay $50/month to suscribe to another App to get the information that you have already in Xero, visible. It could have better payroll integration, and work better with my bank accounts for reconciliation, but other than that it is a great piece of software that I've come to depend on daily. Pros This accounting software was an excellent choice to replace our aging systems with Quickbooks. It was easily deployed, and it's web based access allows access from anywhere we have internet connection. The ease of creating a quote, changing it to an invoice once the client has accepted it, is a great add on. The ability to add inventory items on the fly is very welcoming. Cons Having to pay for add ons after signing up for the FULL package was a disappointment to me. I would also recommend Xero to anyone starting a new business. Pros Xero is really easy to use. The user experience is clean and uncluttered and this cloud-based application is very responsive. One of the things that impressed me most with Xero is how they have opened up their API to allow the integration of their software with so many other applications. Cons A tiny amount of specialist knowledge about bookkeeping and accounting is always needed when using an accounting software. An occasional user might find the various submission buttons to be a little confusing. Clients who now use another program must consent to switching to Xero. Both new hires and business owners may benefit from training with Xero. Pros We can work from home since we may access it from the workplace or from our phones. I enjoy that function since we can use it remotely and don't always need to be in front of the computer. Cons Our experience with Xero has been excellent. We have not seen any restrictions in its application, the advantages have persisted, and we anticipate that it will continue to improve our efficiency in finance and accounting. However the automation on the purchases side is making us stick with it.
