It covers pretty much everything we need from a finance perspective. Pros Simple, easy-to-use software for quotes, invoices, bank account reconciliation, expenses, budgeting and reporting, VAT returns & payroll. Represents reasonably good value for money for us. Support team is excellent. Cons Missing core functionality e.g. notifications when other users have submitted something for approval. iOS app is rather limited. " June 30, 2025 4.0 I have had my ups and downs with the program but we have finally gotten to a place that it works smoothly for what we need as a business. I would recommend your program to others. Pros The statements and repeating invoices are a breeze with the way they are set up versus our old way of creating statements through Google. Cons The number of additional applications needed to achieve the full experience our company requires. We are not an E commerce business. A lot of the applications do not help our business. The platform itself is built with a bit of an archaic feel which is a downside but for accounting? Who cares.. Pros I liked the simplicity of it and how it was easy to use. It was a great program to get started with. Cons I didn't like the lack of support. They have gotten better with support over the years, but there is no number to call or schedule an appointment with. Also, their prices keep increasing substantially and they don't care if you've been there for many years they will still increase it on you which is why I left. Help area can be a little robotic at times but like the user videos Pros Easiness. Transferred from SAGE and it was pretty simple. It is extremely cheap as well as being fast and easy to set up. It is really made for non-financial people, so the whole thing is really user friendly. They also have a great online help forum with articles covering how to do most things. Cons It is not great for multi-company businesses as you cannot be logged into more than 1 at once, you have to chop and change between them and to make intercompany transactions, you need to post separately in both entities. " June 16, 2025 5.0 We are very happy with Xero, it offers us everything that we need for a small business. It is very visual and intuitve and constantly being updated with new and better features. Pros The product is easy to use, it has all functions needed to operate a small business, they are continuously updating features and have a dedicated helpline that you can contact if you need any assistance. Cons Budgeting tools are not the most full-featured. For example, Xero can not suggest an annual budget based on prior year spending. It does everything I need it to in the one spot, and it really is seamless. Pros I love how user friendly Xero is! It’s so easy to get the hang of and super simple. The help forum is also amazing and every time I’ve been stuck, I’ve had my issues resolved so fast. Cons My only fault with Xero is the back end looking super outdated. I feel it needs an upgrade so things look more accessible. I mainly refer to the invoicing settings here. Custom invoice templates and colours etc would be a great addition. The dashboard is very intuitive and I have never have any issues. Pros I use it from a payroll perspective but I know it has lost of other functionality. It is very easy to use from adding employee data to running reports. Cons I think the holiday tool could be better. It isn't easy to calculate holiday in the same way as HR software. Aside from the BAS limitation, it’s been a reliable and user-friendly system Pros Excellent value for money. It integrates smoothly across multiple companies, which makes financial controlling much easier. It’s very intuitive, and giving access to tax agents is simple, which makes collaboration straightforward. Cons You can’t amend BAS retrospectively. Pros \- Automation of finance tasks: Easy to set up Bank feeds; Easy to send out invoices; Easy to complete reconciliations such as stripe/other payment gateways using automated matching software which frees up a lot of time. Cons \- Reporting and workflows aren’t very flexible like some other larger ERP systems, which can be frustrating especially as our company grew in size and required more advanced and granular reporting. Pros Xero has a great interface that makes accounting tasks easier even for non accountants. It is cloud based so you can access your financial data from anywhere and it integrates well with banks. Automatic bank feeds, invoicing and reconciliation saves a lot of time. Cons Some advanced features require add ons which can increase cost. It's relatively easy to use, but perhaps lacks some features which could make life a bit easier. Pros Xero is a pretty good invoicing/accounting platform which integrates well into our business. I like the email templates and ability to send quotes/invoices with custom messages, feels personal but is simple to set up. Works well for the amount of invoices we handle (200 a year ish). Cons There are certain little things which I have found a little difficult. For example, I can't just paste an address in and it auto-fill the City/Street/Zip code, you have to individual paste in each field. Also, once you have send and invoice, you can't then add automatic email reminders. I also thing the overdue invoice page UI could be improved to help our finance department be a bit more organise, e.g. AI features could work well here (flag invoices which are unlikely to be paid based on past experience or due dates). Pros Built on a good bank feed as a solid foundation, makes the information reliable. Functionality is reasonable, not amazing, but reasonable is perfectly fine. It has a good balance of usability and functionality. Cons Recent price hikes are difficult to swallow, particularly if payroll is a requirement. Xero used to have a payroll only option for about $15 per month; their 2 person payroll plan is now $90 per month, and will presumably rise again next year. There are other quirks too that could easily be fixed by inexplicably aren't. They're not as responsive to these quality of life changes as they were initially, presumably the big company "not my job" inertia problem.
