Managing Director Information Technology and Services Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Xero is awesome, albeit expensive when running multiple entities" December 5, 2016 5.0 We've moved from another software 4 years ago and have not looked back. Bank feed setup is easy, recon is a breeze. There are lots of add-ons which can assist with specific needs and there are tons of integrations with sales force and other big guns. The only issues I see is pricing. If you run multiple entities (i.e. for service companies or trusts) the subscription cost adds up quickly. This is because the most basic plan is essentially useless (5 bank transactions a month... if that's all you need, you don't run a business). Compared to emerging competitors pricing is very high. Another issue, if you rely on it, is email support only. While responses come back within 1 to 3 days, players like Intuit have live chat support, which is amazing at their price point. All in all, Xero is a solid solution for us though and while we've moved some (nonpayroll) entities off it and onto QuickBooks, it remains our accounting mainstay for the core operations entity. I am able to keep all my important documents in one place which is amazing! Love how they also give you a free trial so one gets a feel for it before fully commiting. Pros I started using this software because I wanted a simple accounting system for my small business. I like how it is easy to use and understand. After loading all your company information invoicing becomes such a breeze. I love how you can keep track of the invoices you've sent out, what's upcoming and that you can also email yourself a copy of the invoice to fact check it. Cons I was almost hounded to renew my subscription. I think 2 reminders are fine but being reminded almost everyday was a bit much for me I felt pressured by the company. They should have a free trial for you to test out to see if it is a good fit. Pros If you’re a small business owner, you know that outside of paying your employees and keeping the lights on, staying on top of accounting and taxes can be an absolute nightmare. Taking care of your finances is stressful enough as it is, and even simple tasks like sending out invoices can take hours to complete. But what if there was a solution that could improve your bottom line by automating your bookkeeping, billing and reporting? Well you have many choices, but two stick out as some of the most well known in the industry - Xero and quickbooks. Both Xero and Quickbooks online are both great. Honestly, just choose which one floats your boat as far as interface goes. Both are great accounting software. However your accountant may be more familiar with quickbooks Cons Not too many cons I can think of. Maybe they could be better with kit builds/ more inventory management features. The payroll aspect of this product is friendly to use. The integration of various software in this platform is superb! especially in processing of bills. Adding of merchant is easy as one to three. Furthermore, the platform gives quarterly reports to its users. Cons I think the main downside of this application is when there is a new updates to the platform other features becomes unavailable. Like it's dashboard becomes collapse and cannot be accessed or use. The phone app loads fast and is easy to navigate. Pros Easy to learn Wasy to customise Can be used anywhere - I have done my daily reconciliations while sitting waiting for a dentist appointment Phone app loads fast and has all the funtionality of the desktop version. Integrates well with email and the other cloud based software apps we use. Link to IRD makes filing tax returns quick and easy Cons I only use Xero for one business. If you operate more than one business the email integration is a bit clunky. There are a large number of 3rd party apps which integrate with Xero to perform peripheral accounting functions eg time sheets, job costings etc, not all of these are as easy to use and learn as Xero. Pros Some good features - fixed asset management, budgeting is good. Does have a reasonable selection of reports. Also, it has good connections to other software due to the fact that 3rd party software have connected their software. Cons The general ledger I don't like. There is no structure to the account numbers (you can use what you like). Also, there is no easy ability to add heading accounts so you end up with one massive list of accounts. You need to write reports to allow subtotalling. It's so handy not having to switch from system to system for different things, and everything runs very smoothly and makes it all professional and seamless from your customers' point of view.
