Pros It’s been over ten years now ever since I implemented Xero.It allows me to automate over 86% of manual repetitive accounting tasks such as billing, invoicing, AP and AR. Pros The speed of setting up the company and linking the bank. The online banking we use is not the easiest however, Xero had this covered. Cons You cannot fully delete archived Invoices which can cause conflicts if you import old invoice numbers. We had a clash of new system and old invoice numbers and this caused problems with having to credit. It would have been easier if the invoice number could have just been edited. Pros customer service is great, even for an SMB like ours, we get good response times and knowledgeable people. the system is very easy to use and has great functionality for managing our sales and supplier invoices so that we can keep track of our cashflow accurately. Apps library is great and has everything that we need. Cons certain functionality around automation and AI is not there but can be added via connected apps. There are countless articles and forums online, so any question and process can be understood very easily. The reports and transaction listing are easy to navigate, though you have to manually adjust a lot of settings every time (ie the setting are not carried forwards, despite having default reports set). The bank reconciliations are easy with direct bank connection (except for Credit cards, which have to be imported manually). The ability to set up rules makes reconciliation really quick and easy. The STP compliance is made super easy and seamless. Cons Some of the new reports, while looking pretty, lack the functionality of the old reports, which have now been removed. One of the key missing functionality is being able to compare projects across one period. The foreign currency gains and losses are also hard to navigate if you use it. Xero is still recording FX movements from a bank account that has been closed for multiple years. Overall, if you need to do any analysis, budgeting and deep dives into your data, you will be doing it outside of Xero. Review Source JV Jon V. Cons Customer support is terrible. Do not plan on getting any help if you have any questions. If something goes wrong, you will just have to deal or figure it out on your own because offers no help. I have been using Xero for several years at the advice from my accountant. At this point, I am counting down the days until I can get rid of it and move on to another software strictly due to the lack of customer support when something goes wrong, which it always does. Integration with other Software is mediocre at best. Not a lot of companies know about Xero and do not integrate with Xero. This is where all the issues come in to play because when you can not get connected or have any support to contact to get answers, nothing really works well.Very disappointed in the customer support. Pros The simplicity of the entire Xero offering cannot be beat. The user interface is just so intuitive and helpful we really enjoy it. Payroll and bank reconciliations are a breeze. Cons The major drawback is limited inventory functionality as well as the inability to split POs once goods are received. Xero is great for digital companies but manufacturers or goods based companies will need bolt on solutions. Great that our external accountants and legal support can access online as they need. Seems to be continuously evolving and its reassuring to see ongoing development of the product. Pros Customisable dashboard is a time saver and ability to customise templates helps with consistency for our company branding. Customisation of user permissions means the bonus of staff being able to enter their own expenses which is a further time saver. Being able to work across multiple currencies now is a plus, albeit I wish we could manually adjust exchange rates being used. Cons Many advanced features that are standard for longer established accounting software solutions are available, but as "bolt on" packages, so costs can escalate quickly if you need full "bells and whistles". Customer service response can be very slow compared to other cloud software providers we use - in the beginning they were responsive for engagement but over time they're clearly pushing all customers towards getting answers from their user community and/or through the Q&A section. I appreciate that customer service probably don't want to be wasting time with queries better addressed by professional book-keepers or accountants, but in our instance, as "advanced users", our customer service queries tend to be related to technical challenges with the product. It would be great of Xero could analyse the types of queries coming from their customers and perhaps have a priority helpline on offer for "low maintenance" subscribers. " January 10, 2023 4.0 The capture of documents and bank integration is a huge plus for this business. Overall the I have had little frustrations with Xero and found it easy to use. Teaching myself most of the processes and was able to find "how to do" articles for the any help that I required. Pros What is good about this program is that I found learning a very quick process, with no training I could navigate through modules and figure out "how to" with ease. The delivery of invoices into the system is an awesome feature, emailing these to the program itself saves on the need to keep paper base filing as these can be stored on the system. The bank statement integration is great for reconciling against purchases and income. The favourites in the reports section is good to go to the reports I need quickly. The Payroll function is also quite easy to use. Cons For a small business software package there is not much wrong with the program, maybe some navigating issues with having to loop through menus to go back to one step but this is minimal compare the pros. The General ledger reports and transactions is something a small business would hand over to an accountant so maybe make it more user friendly to someone use to using larger systems and not so simplified. October 29, 2020 3.0 Xero is quick to reconcile but so are the other brand options. I am making a lot of money for my accountant because I always need to ring and get help. Pros Easy reconciliation but this is a feature of most brands now. Cons Reports are impossible to configure and source the data I need. The layout is poor and not user friendly. The technical terms used are common to accountants but make no sense to small business operators. The online help is useless and takes forever to get a response. Feature requests are ignored and not even responded to. There are other brands that offer a much easier user interface and at a fraction of the cost. I was forced into XERO as it was the only brand my accountant would support. I have to ring the accountants for help all the time who change a fortune for simple advice. Every feature I need is an extra add on charge. The remember me at login does not work and I have to waste time with 2 step login every time I leave the computer for 5 minutes. XERO does not work well on the tablet. The bank feeds do not deliver all the transaction data detail and its very difficult to identify some businesses. Memorizing transactions and splitting purchases is a real time-waster. Since moving to Xero from MYOB we have found a significant reduction in our book keeping time input. We are NOT accountants or book keeping experts and Xero as an accounting system has definitely made this part of our business much more efficient. We are guided by our accountant as how best to use the software and have been able to develop a simple client - accountant relationship with Xero being the main conduit of information between us. Pros As a small business we found Xero to be a simple and very cost effective solution for all our accounting - book keeping needs. Xero is very easy to set up with your accountant and reduces the time you need to spend on book keeping tasks each month. With automatic bank feeds the time we need to reconcile our accounts each month is minimal. The audit trail features mean any issues that arise can be quickly found and fixed. Being able to notate any transactions enables our accountant to quickly respond to our queries. As a small business keeping our external accountant costs down is very important to us and by using Xero means the time our accountant has to actually spend on our accounts is less and therefore so are the invoices we receive from him! Cons Some of the automatic accounts Xero suggests you reconcile to are not correct so it is important to double check each transaction before reconciling. We had issues setting up some of the automatic bank feeds and still have one bank account that will not process the feeds so we need to enter those transactions manually. When uploading a file of transactions we also had some issues and found it quicker just to manually enter them into the software. As non booking experts our accountant recommended we make the switch and set up automatic bank feeds which we did. It has improved out book keeping efficiency tremendously. Pros I love the pricing and that small and large business could use the software. I also liked the reports feature, as it makes it super easy to track for one to choose the message that they would like to run, and the reconciliation is super easy and saves a lot of time. Pros That Xero streamlines the process of generating financial reports like P&Ls and balance sheets is a major plus in my book. Cash flow can be monitored and controlled with little effort. This application is helpful since it makes it simple to keep tabs on and organize spending. Xero appears to make the task of reconciling bank accounts much less complicated. Cons The use of tracking categories is a necessary evil in the projects module. It would be great if the projects section was integrated with other apps, such as Expensify. Having various rate cards within the projects section would also be helpful.
