Pros

I have been with Xero for many years. I love the sense of community and i LOVE that I am not being asked to upgrade or upcharge the way some other companies do.

Cons

I would like to be able to build financial statements in the app. I also noticed that the web version does not conform to the page size when resizing. I have to go in and make the data smaller, the page isn't dynamic like the majority of websites are now.

Xero has allowed us to get a real, detailed view on the financial situation within our company from one place. With a comprehensive setup, it can provide real value from day one.

Pros

Xero has transformed our financial management and provides us with all the real time data we could imagine, and where it lacks, integrations take over. While more "accountancy" friendly than some of the more simple products, once you work with your accountants to get this right, you won't regret it. The detail, features and holistic approach to managing company finances means that we are using this every day and with pleasure.

Cons

The interface is being updated, and it is needed as it is a little old fashioned in its design. That said, it is clean and clear and otherwise we love everything about Xero.

I have been using Xero for a couple of years now and am very happy with it. I was with MYOB but had a bad experience when they upgraded their systems to include cloud computing. I have had a look at their new systems, and while they are much improved and worth exploring for someone starting from scratch, I will still stick with Xero.

Pros

My accountants use it extensively so it makes my work and their work integrate so easily which ultimately saves money. Reconciliation is a very labour intensive exercise and Xero cuts a huge amount of time out of this process. On its own it is quite cheap too. I have an expensive plugin (Tradegecko), but the functionality of that pays for itself. Xero creates the framework of my entire business system.

Cons

If you have a business where you have a large number of transactions coming in for the same value, e.g. if you have magazine subscriptions all for $5 a month each then Xero is not a good option, at all. I did have this problem and it was a total pain. I have corresponded extensively with Xero on this issue and they do not see it as a priority and have said directly that they have no intentions on making improvements. This surprises me as their customer service is generally quite good. There is quite a large thread on the support forums on this topic. If this is a potential issue for you then here is my advice. Set up a trial account with Xero and MYOB and test both for this important reconciliation feature. If you know what you are doing it shouldn't take too long (or ask someone who knows what they are doing). These systems change and evolve so quickly that by the time you read this review one of them might have improved their system. MYOB has been beaten badly by Xero in the past few years but from what I have seen (I recently exhibited next to them at a show) they have come a long way since I stopped using their system.

Overall, during the last 4 years of using Xero, we have found the software to a great time-saver with some excellent features such as bank synchronisation, and software integration with our WMS and CRM in particular.

Pros

The powerful integration features, cloud-based services and bank account synch saves masses of time and effort.

Cons

The support is somewhat limited and often hit and miss, however, once an issue has been resolved or explained, it is easy to use.

It is good for small businesses but as the business grows and so does the exchange of information within the software Xero becomes a pain.

Pros

1\. It is very easy to maneuver through the system.2. Cost Effective.3. Clean interface that gives you the visibility of your financial position.4. Live Bank feeds and Bank Reconciliation.5. Preparing Purchase Orders/Quotes, Sales Orders/Quotes etc. is relatively easy.

Cons

1\. It has limitation on transactions that can be handled at one given point of time. 2. The system doesn't have payroll functions.3. The reports that are generated are not detailed oriented they are very basic. 4. It is not possible to customise the reports as per the needs. 5. It is very slow when the volume of transactions is increased. 6. Capable of only pulling out limited transactions at one time, which is very annoying when you have thousands of entries to go through.7. Customer support is not very helpful.

The overview / dashboard is great. Managing VAT returns is easy as well as keeping up to date with bills bills and invoices. It also has the ability to sync all our bank accounts and with most it has automatic update of transactions i.e dont have to import. Keeping up to date with how your business is performing and the recent budget feature is also great.

Pros

Ability to raise bills and invoices, reconcile transaction and to VAT returns. The general usability is also very easy.

Cons

A little more support when setting up. Some kind of push notifications either through desktop or the app when items are overdue. Maybe some more support videos on how to keep getting to know different or new parts of the system.

Xero has provided a great experience from the beginning. It is fresh, clean, and very intuitive. I honestly think just about anyone could use it and figure it out.

Pros

I love that Xero is a one stop shop. As your business grows you can add on different tools that become more and more necessary with growth. I really appreciate all of the video clips it provides and also how easy they are to follow and understand.

Cons

I don't think at this point there is anything I don't like. It was just the thing I needed to help get my Dad's billing organized.

I helped my dad switch from QuickBooks on his desktop primarily because his business partners in England were using Xero. So it just made sense. But also because he had QuickBooks on his old desktop computer which was basically not functioning. It made sense to switch to something that could function completely, safely, and securely online.

Overall, Xero is a great accounting software for small businesses. It is packed with features and has a user-friendly interface. The cost is quite high, but it is worth it for the features that it provides. The customer support could be better, but the overall experience has been positive.

Pros

Xero is an incredibly comprehensive accounting software that is perfect for small businesses. It has all the necessary features for managing finances and the user interface is easy to use and understand. I love how it can be integrated with other accounting programs and it is constantly being updated with new features and improvements.

Cons

Xero can be quite expensive as compared to other accounting software and the customer support is not always as helpful as one would hope. I have also encountered some glitches that can cause problems when trying to get things done.

largely positive, but when they got rid of payroll, given my business of 2 employee/owner s-corp in a medical practice, with no retail/inventory, it made things a ton easier to just do my accounting in Excel. It was really the payroll that made this a no brainer for me.

Pros

I loved the usability of this software. It was super easy to set up relatively sophisticated accounting with no accounting background. I thought the bank reconciliation was dynamite, and while they still had it, I loved the payroll. When I would eventually get triaged to tech support, the person was so patient, and so helpful it was really great, and they never seemed to mind spending a long time helping to fix some oddball problems that I'd made. Oh yes, loved it that they did the quarterly tax filings for me, but that also went away with the payroll

Cons

One thing about this accounting software - when you have a question their first response is to tell you to have your accountant look at it. I was using this software as a replacement for an accountant, in order to save money, so that advice didn't help much. When you do a google for help, you run into a problem: Xero seems to be doing accounting software for all the english speaking countries,e.g. new zealand, australia, UK, USA and canada. each of these countries has different business formations/corporations, different taxation rules, etc, as well as meaningfully different accounting vernacular. I would end up mnost of the time getting somewhere only to realize I'd pulled up the UK instructions to solve a problem.

My overall experience with Xero is extremely positive. It is an integral part of our business now and I would struggle without it.

Pros

My favourite feature of Xero is how easy the reports are to customize to my needs and how clear and easy they are to read. This helps me understand how my business is performing instantly.

Cons

The CIS feature. I've had more errors since starting to use this than I ever did using my good old spreadsheets.

Reporting is super useful, very segmentable. Integrations pull through data from credit cards etc with ease and give a live picture of financial health.

### "Xero makes finance so easy"

Since starting with Xero over six years ago, we couldn't be happier. We've centralised all our financial activity into one platform, which is great for non-finance people like myself!

Pros

Xero makes managing the finances for a business really straightforward. The user interface is intuitive and it centralises all my accounts information. One of my favourite features is the the dashboard, which is clear and customisable, and gives a great summary of the position position at any time. The software also integrates really well to other platforms for things like receipt capture and detailed business analysis.

Cons

I'm really happy with how it performs, however, our bookkeeper still does some levels of manual reporting, which he finds easier in Excel, than in Xero. The integration of BA tools does negate this issue.

### "Good - But With Issues"

Mostly good apart from the above which really grate with me. They don't seem to be developing the core product at all. It has barely changed in my 4 years of usage.

Pros

Easy to use for non-accountants. Inexpensive.

Cons

Invoices, purchase orders etc are not sent out from your own email address but from messaging-service @post.xero.com. This looks unprofessional and spammy, I have had customers reply by copying and pasting that email address and it's binned by Xero. You can't format email text in any way either. No bold, no italics - nothing! The inventory (products and services) listings cannot be accessed by administration staff unless given full access to financial reports. So the accountant or business owner has to make small modifications to the inventory even though they are not familiar with product descriptions, prices etc. This is very poor.

Xero is very basic as an accounting program. The market to which it markets it has no understanding of, is, therefore, unable to address any questions or requests coming from businesses in these markets. Customer Service is appalling. Many requests that are essential to business have been open in some cases more than 5 years and they seem to only reply to requests posted online once a year. If you looking to do partial invoices for one quote you have sent you are unable to. keep a separate spreadsheet for every job you quoted the partial invoices you sent, to ensure that when you need to reconcile you are able to keep track. There seems to be an add-on for every possible shortcoming of the program and be prepared to budget a lot for these add-ons. When you do quotes it does not keep track of revisions and does not carry over the titles and basic information to invoices. If you are doing multiple quotes and invoices for on client keep a separate spreadsheet to make sure you know what you changed in what revision should the client want to revert back to an older revision. Have the spreadsheet keep track of the headings so that you are able to know and give quick feedback as to which invoice was for which project allocated to which department.

Pros

Relatively good online/mobile app.

Cons

Takes forever to respond to customer requests. Have very generic type responses when they eventually respond which could be a year later. Has features that are meant to implement open for more than 5 years. Not made for small business that deals with small to large enterprises. No Partial invoicing. Can't deal with different departments having different functions ie quotes to buying department, invoices to the financial department. There is no way to allocate contacts to these functions you need to a separate spreadsheet. No track record between quote and invoices, you have to open invoice and quote to know exactly which job belongs to which quote and invoice.

So far, it has been amazing. I have little to no complaints. Everyone that I have moved to Xero have told me thank you.

Pros

Xero is an accounting software that just works. I have used so many different platforms, and Xero has been the easiest and most reliable software I have found.

Cons

1099 reports are too limited. Tracking categories are too limited. Support can phone it in when you first reach out to them, but if you set up a time to chat with someone they are extremely helpful.

Pros

A great app and Secure online system. Most small businesses fail, because they do not have an adequate overview of their finances and outgoings. I use Xero Daily and can easily gain an overview of the Financial health of my business. I use the Xero app each morning to match payments

Cons

Can be a little difficult to work out which chart of accounts to use etc but put the effort in up-front to set things up correctly and use it Daily

Xero allows us to focus our time on growing our business rather than focusing on bank recs and allocating invoices to payments. It is a very easy system to use and their customer support and online help is fantastic.

Pros

For our SME, we find Xero very easy to use. It enables us to easily reconcile our different business accounts through easily linking with multiple banks. It also enables invoice sending and tracking and is used daily by the team to monitor outstanding invoices that are owed to us and also that need to be paid by us.

Cons

There are some slight issues when it comes to advance payments to suppliers through currency accounts but that is very specific to us and apart from this there is very little wrong with Xero.
