May 23, 2019 5.0 Xero is a software that meets my expectations and needs since it is easy to use, configure and can encode some elements such as search functions to locate some particular numbers, business or relevant transactions and multiple key features such as the panel that is can customize and presents a beautiful user interface with graphics for bank accounts has a unique billing template and can be customized and you can easily create quotes and even turn them into purchase order invoices, Xero is a competent accounting management system that works according to the rules and priorities of my company. Director Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Overall great. Recently, shocking!" July 19, 2018 4.0 Pros Overall, it's a good product. Easy to use. Simple UI though quite dated. It does everything we need it to plus more. Cons Until recently, there wasn't much I didn't like. I probably couldn't name anything, apart from the somewhat dated UI - but that's a stretch. Recently however, Xero have taken a core feature (Expenses) and starting selling it as an add-on, on top of the monthly subscription fee. Expenses as you may know, and would expect, is 'included' in the monthly subscription and formed part of the core software. There was no additional charge. They've recently updated the Expenses feature (which they should be doing anyway) and now believe that because they've updated it, that warrants it being pulled from core and sold separately as an add-on. As a current subscriber, I signed up for the all inclusive package. Having features ripped from the core package and charged for in addtion to the monthly subscription is not on. Especially when no discount or reduction of the monthly subscription cost was offered. As a SaaS provider, any and all future updates, regardless of how big or small they are, should form part of the monthly subscription. Choosing an accounting package is a big decision and once you're committed, it's difficult and often costly to change. With Xero now employing this kind of model, I'd caution anyone considering Xero to think again, think hard. Today it's Expenses, tomorrow it could be something else. Occasionally bank feeds duplicate and fix require manual adjustments and entries so bank feeds or other integrations need to be overseen. It's designed for small or simple businesses. For us, we just about make it through, but in hindsight there may have been a better fit. Pros Xero is a very visually pleasing software, especially for Accounting software. It's easy to use (in general) and it definitely has a strong set of core features (invoicing, billing, etc.). The ease of setting up online payments and creating custom document templates is great. It integrates well with our ERP (Unleashed). Cons As soon as you step outside or to the edges of Xero competence there is nothing to help. I wasn't fully aware when we bought it, but Xero is really aimed at very small or very simple businesses. For instance, we deal with many customers who want invoices sent to one address and statements sent to another address, Xero can only handle one email per customer (I guess that's why they call them "Contacts"). As soon as you have an issue like this there is no response from Xero on the forums, despite lots of support/comments. But the office was happy so I guess thats what really matters Pros I was an employee and me moved over to Xero from another accounting package. The app i downloaded to my phone was used to send in my timesheets so I would get paid. Before this I had to create a weekly google sheet and email it. This led to mistakes in my pay so the app helped me to be paid accurately. Cons If the office had not uploaded the jobs in time for me when I was inputting my time sheet each day, I could not allocate time accurately and I had to keep a different record until they had updated Xero. I know some people rave about it but to me it is definitely not one I recommend to my clients. If my clients are using it and they are happy then so be it, I will continue to assist them. Pros I do like the BAS return function and the Payroll function. When we've had errors in the year end reporting, it has been easy to look back and find those entries & fix them up. Cons Can be hard to navigate in finding the right reports and retrieving the right information I need from the software. I also find it hard to review SUpplier & Customer Accounts History. I'm used to seeing other softwares having a tab labelled 'Suppliers' / 'Customers' and you can view altogether - I'm just not finding this easy to do in Xero. Just too expensive. Pros Xero has a nice layout and is intuitive to use. Also integrates seamlessly with accountant - no more ugly spreadsheets! It's so helpful to be able to see my tax reports and balance sheets at a glance, throughout the year. I especially love the expenses app, where you can take photos of receipts with the phone camera, and the app will automatically log the expenses for you. Cons Xero is expensive compared to other cloud accounting software out there. Nowadays, most business banking apps offer basic bookkeeping & expenses functions. Plus you can get FreeAgent - another very good accounting software - for free when signing up to a business account with Natwest or Royal Bank of Scotland. For the above reasons, I'd say Xero is no longer a top choice for small businesses or sole traders on a modest budget. I love them both - for different reasons. If you're a MYOB lover, do not be afraid of the transition. Simply view Xero as different and you'll be fine. Don't expect to find things in the same dropdown tabs - as it's a different set-up. Once you're familiar, you'll love the ease of use. Very user friendly, not overcrowded on your pages with too much writing, easy to see information (card files for clients) all on one page - very easy to read and find the information you're after. Give Xero a try - I know you won't be disappointed. Pros Love the ease of access. We have a team based in Australia, India, & South America - so the online platform is brilliant. As a previous MYOB user (& lover of MYOB), I was surprised with the ease of transition from MYOB to Xero. I also really enjoy how easy it is to link client card files noting the company directors, primary contacts, banking details etc. Very easy to view all the information in one place! Love being able to send the BAS' from Xero as well with a click of the button, and being able to modify & tweak great templates is a MUST. Cons One thing that is very challenging, is if the Xero team are not getting back to you as promptly as you need, there is NO phone number to talk to someone. This (for the accounting industry) can be a big let down at times. Normally, the Customer Help is very prompt. Still trying to find an adequate solution so that if I upload a file in my XPM, the rest of my team can view these files. Pros This is an easy to use software that integrates with a number of other tools that a very small business / sole proprietor is most likely to use. It's ideal for a business just starting out and is priced well below competitors. Cons Growing businesses will hit a ceiling with this tool. The lack of customization will become an issue and the tradeoff between simplicity and costs will quickly reach its limit. As a small business owner its very easy to align your bank and client accounts with xero. The functionality from just the mobile app is tremendous, let alone the full Web app experience. Roles are important in xero, from employee expenses to external accountancy and consultancies, you can give everyone a suitable level of access. Cons There are a few issues around invoicing that you aren't able to control. For instance, if you have a bad paying client and need to automate incurred interest you'll need an add-on's service and these can add a great expense to the smaller business. If I have to know terminology of finance, business and abbreviated terms. They have it on their SharePoint and website. Cons I the course they give on new users are fast pace to much of example and it doesn't apply to all user. I think if they gave an example activity much better to use one type of business . Because activity are mix of everything. First activity transaction of metal company, next crm and so on. Unlike QuickBooks they focus 1 scenario lawn care service. Pros Xero plugs in to a lot of different software tools making it easy to reconcile. The reconcile tool itself is also pretty amazing, making it easy to manage bookkeeping. Cons The UI seems very dated, it could really do with a refresh and a new menu structure, sometimes its hard to find basic things without having to mess around in the settings to look it up. I always felt I was paying more for the services I was being offered. Always wanted to switch and finally found one. Pros It integrated with most applications and every accountant in Australia had heard about Xero. It had kind of a monopoly on the market. Cons It is very expensive and the cost had gone up constantly about 2 times in less than a year of joining/subscribing to Xero. It did not give me the option to bill clients in multiple currency for which I had to shell out extra and take up a higher subscription! It is also very complicated to use, never understood the interface well.
