### "It gets the job done"

September 4, 2018

4.0

It gets the job done for us and it probably just like most other EMRs they all have issues but at the end of the day they allow you to record your notes and bill the insurance.

Pros

ECW can get most of what you want done. I work mainly on the reporting side and staff support. The ability to pull reports is pretty good with their EBO system. We get almost everything we need reporting wise from that system whether it’s financial or encounter data. Their support is pretty responsive usually calling back the same day in most cases. Their billin service is pretty good and is very reasonable. Our company pays about 8% totally cost with ECW which is pretty much the industry standard.

Cons

There are sometimes a lot of clicks with ECW. Anytime you do an upgrade something is not going to work which is very frustrating. If you are a CPC practice you will be frustrated as their reporting dashboard took until the middle of 2018 to start working and then we upgraded and now we are waiting on a patch to get the dashboard back up. Don’t expect to speak to anyone that’s first language is English when you call support. We started with ECW in late 2015 and we had to setup everything from scratch which we thought was really strange as they have so many practices you would think there would already be templates for almost everything.

### "Horrible support process "

July 2, 2025

1.0

Awful support structure. Hard to get the techs to understand your problem. Accessing any of their platforms requires multiple factor authentication, so it makes dealing with them even more difficult.

Pros

Relatively easy to maneuver for basic charting and billing. A lot of functionality, but everything is an additional cost and keeping up with the constant upgrades and ancillary products can be difficult

Cons

Customer service is a head ache. No issue/question is ever an easy solution. Everything requires a ticket, so you are constantly waiting on them to call you at their convenience.

### "Best EMR to lengthen your workday! If you get paid by the hour you'll get rich!"

February 7, 2024

1.0

It is tedious to use, so many clicks it's unbelievable. I honestly believe that they pay the coders by the number of clicks the user is forced to do. It takes you out of the chart if you look up any info on a patient so you have to go back to you schedule screen and reselect the patient to get back into the progress note. The top of the page says "Allergies". Can you click on it and see the patient's allergies? No! you have to click on Medical summary and wait for it to generate the page popup then scroll to the section that has allergies. Then close the popup to get back to your page. When writing prescriptions, it never remembers the patient's pharmacy. You have to click the pharmacy and click "save as favorite" EVERY TIME! Then it takes to the next screen which forces you to do the same thing again. Also it doesn't "know" I am the provider writing the Rx so I have to go to the list and scroll down to find my name EVERY TIME! If a patient call in and needs a refill, I have to enter a telephone visit (which I didn't take part in) implies I spoke to the patient and then from there enter the prescription with all the tedious things listed above. What's funny is there is an "Rx" button across the top of the page in any given chart. Unfortunately, that button only shows the current meds and there are several tabs NONE OF WHICH SHOW ALLERGIES, and nowhere on that medication summary where you can write a prescription. Patient lookup doesn't keep a history, so if you go into a chart then have to access another part of the record as I mentioned above it takes you out of the chart. Then when you need to go back into the chart, you have to enter all the lookup information again! It should have a little dropdown history of recently accessed charts. If you are in a given patient's chart and need to send the nurse a note on that patient, you go to Create Note and then select the recipient. Incredibly, the note does not attach or connect to the patient whose chart you are sending from! The first time it happened, the nurse asked me who I was talking about in the note because it had no patient info on it! It's just one unbelievable thing after another. For OB, they don't have a dedicated OB visit. What they do is make a hybrib where you toggle between the flow sheet which is kind of the running pregnancy info- and a progress note which is created for each visit. The progress note is the same old progress note you do for a regular visit with ROS, PMH etc. which you don't need for OB vsits since they aren't there for a problem - just keeping tabs on the pregnancy. It also tries to make you do an E/M on every OB visit even though it's a global fee so you have to say no to that every visit.

Pros

You can use it on a tablet, they fit a lot of stuff (albeit useless) stuff on the screen

Cons

Everything from the tedious login to forcing you to falsify records, to the multiple layer of menus to extra clicks, to making accessing information tedious and difficult, to the onboarding person - not a team- but one person who googled everything we asked because we could see it on her zoom screen even though she didnt' realize it. Good grief, it's total ripoff and the \[sensitive content hidden\] on down has no clue about medicine. They are in it to mine data in my opinion.

### "Eclinicalworks is 💯 the way to go!"

February 24, 2026

5.0

Overall, I find eclinicalworks to be efficient, affordable and easy to use on a daily basis. I would recommend it to colleges and choose this platform to manage my files over any other medical management platform.

Pros

I find that eclinicalworks s extremely geared to ensurng files are organized and easy to retrieve when I am under time constraints.

Cons

I do still need to spend a reasonable amount of time with each file regardless of daily time restraints which is understandable and I see that with all platforms I use.

### "Eclinical Works"

January 15, 2026

5.0

Overall, my experience with eClinicalWorks was positive. It offers comprehensive tools for managing patient records and clinical workflows, though there is a learning curve.

Pros

I liked that eClinicalWorks centralizes patient records, scheduling, and documentation in one system, which helps streamline daily workflows.

Cons

The system can feel complex at times, and some features require additional training to use efficiently. Navigation can be challenging, and certain workflows are not as intuitive as they could be.

### "Valuable but Challenging: a Student's Experience with eClinical Works "

April 3, 2025

5.0

Many healthcare operations depend on eClinicalWorks, a thorough and powerful tool for scheduling, billing, patient data management, and other clinical processes. Being a pupil, I have discovered that it provides a rich range of tools that, once honed, may significantly enhance hospital care and administration's efficiency. Still, some difficulties should be taken into account. The system might be sluggish, especially when working with huge data sets or during peak use times, which could irritate one and disturb the flow of work. Furthermore, the platform presents a difficult learning curve. It took me some time to become acquainted with how everything operates, from managing patient records to grasping how billing and scheduling are linked, especially as I am also still gaining knowledge on clinical systems. Notwithstanding, the system is much simpler to use and may save you a lot of time if once you get the hang of it by unifying several functions into one platform. Among the features that really stand out is how electronic health records (EHR) are integrated with scheduling, billing, and clinical documentation. It minimizes mistakes and ambiguity by lowering the need of several systems and guaranteeing that all patient data is stored in one location. Furthermore, eClinicalWorks enables efficient communication among several divisions, therefore increasing general efficiency of operations and the quality of patient experience. Although the speed and learning curve of eClinicalWorks first presented problems, it has turned out to be a very useful tool for improving the daily running of medical practices. It provides a one-size-fits-all solution which simplifies difficult work and promotes improved patient care, for professionals as well as for students. With some practice and patience, it becomes an indispensable resource that adds significant value to the healthcare system.

Pros

With a simple-to-use interface, eClinicalWorks simplifies patient care, billing, and documentation. Integrating EHR with scheduling and billing tools cuts mistakes and saves time.

Cons

Especially when processing great data sets, the system can be slow at times. Its steep learning curve as well can be difficult for inexperienced people to negotiate deftly.

### "Eclinical Experience "

May 16, 2025

5.0

I would give this a 10/10. When my old work used this software I enjoyed it so much I wish my new job had it.

Pros

It allows you to personalize the charts and documents the way you want them to be. Also it allows you to look up a patients PMP from the software.

Cons

I don’t think there is anything about this program that I like the least. If I had to pick something it would be not being able to chat amount coworkers in the system.

### "eClinicalworks"

March 10, 2025

5.0

I have never had any issues with eClinicalworks or their software. The customer service is top notch and they are always a phone call away.

Pros

eClinicalworks is one of the most robust EMR's on the market. It gives you everything you need for your practice.

Cons

eClinicalworks is known for the amount of "clicks" it takes to complete a task. This is a bit much, but they are aware.

We didn't stay with it but a year. We were having so many issues and their customer service didn't help much. It was very hard to understand them.

Please do not use this electronic medical records system. They are a scam, and extremely misleading. Companies like this extort medical practices and provide lack luster services. Filling with technical difficulties and even worse customer service interaction. Please stay away.

Only cons nothing positive to say about the experience with this company.

### "They dont follow the signed contract"

October 22, 2023

2.0

Things turned sour when I was leaving E clinical works. I had specifically negotiated the records issue when I signed the contract. Verbally they said it would not be a problem, they would provide it on a flash drive. No cost is mentioned on the contract and I made sure of that. Well, they now demand that they receive payment- a crazy amount for just 2 1/2 yrs of patient records. Its been 4 months. I definitely will not pay. They were paid monthly and that should suffice. They charge for faxes. They charge for each Telemed visit, they charge for messages. Apparently they will give the records in "Java Script" for no cost which is an unreadable format to normal humans. They now want to send me to collections!! Please, there are better EMRs out there, just don't deal with this one.Athena was my prior EMR and I switched as I needed a biller to overview the billing that Athena does and paying for 2 billing services was not worth while I thought. With switch to ECW billing, the biller was unable to bill properly and income plummeted. So in retrospect, Athena billing was very helpful.Another biller complained about ECW billing software not being easy. However, Athena still gives me access to my patient files that I greatly appreciate. Patients always need to have their records!

Pros

The EHR itself is ok after we learned to navigate. However this is negated by the Tech support experience.

Cons

Tech support was extremely frustrating. They are not well trained and this wastes your time. All are in India, some with bad accents that staff really don't want to deal with. You can never call them as they don't have the confidence to take your call. Each item that may all be connected still needs a separate case to be made and they call you back based on their convenience often when you are seeing patients. Overall exhausting experience

### "Simple, effective EMR system"

June 6, 2024

4.0

Overall Eclinical works for basic needs. I preferred Eclinical in the exam room setting for regular visits and check ins. However, for larger appointments, like procedures and IM ejections, etc. it was rather clunky and lacking in certain features. I would highly recommend Eclinical for anyone looking for a simple EMR to manage a small practice.

Pros

Eclinical works offers an affordable option for medical practices and providers. Overall the system is fairly streamlined, simple and easy to navigate. It is an "older system," but continues to improve and is effective for the uses we require within our practice.

Cons

I wished that Eclinical offered a better system for procedure documentation and generating of procedure consents and info. We currently make these manually on a PDF document and integrating them in to the system would save time and energy scanning them back in to the system.

### "Nightmare"

October 5, 2022

2.0

They are 100% offshore support. 98% of the people that call speak so little English that you have no chance of having any sort of meaningful conversation. Every single time we do a patch update it takes 5-7 hours on top of the line hardware. About 50% of the time the patch fails and it takes a whole day or two to get the correct people from ECW on the phone to resolve the issue. They have account managers assigned to clients and they don't do any account management. I am not really sure why that person exist as they provide no value to my clients. Do yourself a favor, do not consider this product. It IS worth it to pay more for a better supported product. If you want to spend countless hours arguing or just trying to get a response then buy this product. Given the current level of support I wouldn't be surprised that they go out of business in the future.

Pros

It was inexpensive, and feature rich when we purchased it in 2010. The ability to self host is great to control the user experience.

Cons

Support, updates, cost. They are changing the way features have worked or been charged for. As a result you are forced to pay for something that was free for years or it stops working.

Reason for choosing eClinicalWorks

Originally because it was quick to deploy and cost effective. There are not competing products that are cheaper and more reliable.

### "Progressive EHR with lots of options"

March 6, 2019

5.0

I've worked with a number of EHRs (NextGen, Practice Fusion, ARIA, Meditech, Athena) and this has overall been my favorite. Most often the complaint I heard from people was the inability to understand the support reps, but compared to other vendors, issues were resolved more quickly. A lot of the offerings are add-ons and do have a cost, but compared to other vendors, I found them significantly more reasonable and thought the product was a very good value. Overall, it worked well. We were cloud based and had very few issues with the hosting. I would definitely recommend.

Pros

Vendor is very progressive in developing new features. For example, we could pull data from home blood glucose meters or fit bits into patient visit notes if the patient linked an account through the portal. Tracking for CCM billing was easy and built into the system. Patient engagement features were great, such as automatically notifying patients that prescriptions were sent to the pharmacy, calling for appointment reminders from the schedule and updating responses directly to the appointment. If you need to notify the entire schedule of a provider absence, it's very easy to automatically send out notifications. Lots of technology options for collecting data including inexpensive check-in kiosks and apps for phones and tablets. Software can be an installed application or web based. The software is very flexible in most cases and there are numerous ways to get from/to anywhere in the system quickly. You can open multiple instances of your login to allow you to document in one chart while viewing something else. Integrated faxing made for one less thing to support/review.

Cons

Reporting on clinical data is not good at all. It's very difficult to search the database and get accurate results on labs/medical history/diagnoses/etc. We tried RCM services early in their existence and found them very unreliable but that was a number of years ago. Updating note sections during a visit could contain a slight delay when clicking between different sections of the note, but not terrible.

### "Sufficient but lackluster"

October 7, 2019

3.0

After using the product for 10 years our practice had learned to master the inefficient workarounds to where they have become 2nd nature. Unfortunately, recent server stability issues forced us to look for a new solution. Our hosted platform was eventually upgraded/moved to a more stable server farm however it was too late and the process to replace the software had already began. We eventually migrated to a new solution.

Pros

The price? As far as bargain EHRs goes, this is probably front runner, but the industry is lacking in innovation and functionality and this product is no different. Where you save money up front you pay for it by having a lack of features and seemless easy to use workflows. We constantly had to create nonsensical workarounds to achieve an acceptable workflow that was less painful for the providers but made it 10 times more difficult for the staff.

Cons

As a provider, you grade how easy an EHR is to use based on the number of clicks. As an IT professional you are able to assess a software's efficiency based on numerous other metrics. As the later, I can say by far the worst aspect is the number of clicks. With no redeeming qualities to speak having to drill down 5 or 6 menus to get to a patient's documents or financials and then be forced to back all the way out before checking on a 2nd patient's info is maddening. User's are forced to keep 2 instances open so as to not be forced to close a patient's demos/chart if they have to take a call and open a new patient's chart. This of course is explicitly denounced by eCW as forbidden. We do it anyway ... it's the only way.

Reason for choosing eClinicalWorks

The main reason eClinicalWorks was selected was due to a bargaining agreement between our practice and the nearby (but unaffiliated) hospital with which one of our providers represented. The software was given to us for a significant discount.

### "What's In Eclinicalworks For You?"

March 17, 2019

4.0

Overall our company has been well pleased with Eclinicalworks, it has assisted in helping us know what areas need improvement for reporting, organized in one system tasks for tracking, assisting the provider in knowing what is being billed and received, and just changed the way that things are done in our practice. I do agree there are a few hiccups, but as they change a little each month more and more of those minor problems are worked out. Plus if you encounter an issue you can check their website for knowledge prior to creating a ticket and watch a simple self-explanatory how-to video.

Pros

Eclinicalworks is an all inclusive software. I love the fact that you can send messages to staff and track whether or not they have worked and the general way the software works. It has a fax inbox, document box, prescription box, and a great way of tracking progress in all areas.

Cons

I will say there are a couple of downsides to using eclinicalworks but the pluses definitely outweigh the minuses. If you have any issues a ticket must be made and you must await a call back for issues to be resolved, and the billing cannot just be batched at the end of every day and billed, each claim must be touched. But the upside to this is that this eliminates errors as you must look at every claim. It does take a little more time but you have fewer errors.

### "Great for our small health department"

April 24, 2018

4.0

We spent the time to document our processes and identify areas where we wanted change. When the business analyst came, we were able to concentrate on how we wanted the EMR to work. This is the difference in having someone install an EMR with the "usual" processes and making it work for you. They are very willing to work with you to make the product work for your needs, you just have to identify what you want. If they can't change something (we wanted a couple of languages added to the list in demographics and couldn't because they were not on a standard list) they can work with you to find a solution.

Pros

This is a very cost effective EMR for our small health department. We are able to customize progress notes to allow for fast and efficient documentation of immunizations. Messenger can be used to call and cancel patients if an emergency happens and we need to cancel patients. This can be done from the internet anywhere, which can be a big help not to have to go into the office during a severe weather event. We have had very responsive staff from eCW who helped us during customization and implementation. The chat feature on the support portal can give quick answers (except on Friday afternoon). The support techs have always been quick to get back to us. The eCW university that has videos to either train new staff or remind current staff of processes is very valuable. This saves trying to construct training materials on your own.

Cons

Data entry for historic immunization records is time consuming. I look forward to a time when we will have bi-directional data transmission with our state immunization database, which will eliminate the historical documentation. As others note, there can be difficulties with communication if a support person does not have English as their first language. It just takes slowing down and being patient.

### "5 Stars!"

May 5, 2022

5.0

eClinicalWorks provided us with an EMR that was both user-friendly and effective in our pediatric workflow. I can't recommend it enough!

Pros

eClinicalWorks was by far the best EMR I have ever used. I have used several over the last 15 years and this one has left a lasting impression. ECW is easy to use, their customer support is unlike anything I have ever seen. Most concerns were addressed within 30 minutes which is rare with any company.

Cons

The only "con" is that sometimes with customer service, even though there were fast response times, we didn't always feel heard.

it's been a battle from day one, starting with their un-organized and poor training week for physicians and staff, having incompetent trainer, charging for a trainer who's knowledge base was zero, forcing clients to pay for trainers air fair even if their BAD, they will

Pros

patient scheduling is good, we were told reports are great but it was not at all good or user friendly.

Cons

No upper management, no one is there if you have complains, you're on your own. During the demo they promise you the moon and the stars but deliver nothing

### "It, mostly, does what it advertises. "

August 13, 2024

3.0

Pros

It's generally fast, and responsive for providers to put notes in. It does what it advertises.

Cons

We have to restart the program often. If we have more than one instance open on a laptop, it often crashes the pc. When adding printers, you have to restart the software. Support takes hours to return on tickets.

4.0

Pros

The ability to check eligibility without going to another program. The claims are easy to filter in the patients charts.

Cons

If you have to put in a ticket anyone who calls you is from India and are usually hard to understand. The EBO reports are hard to grasp.

### "eClinical Works"

5.0

My overall experience with eClinical Works has been awesome.

Pros

eClinical Works was very easy to navigate and use for me. I was able to watch a few videos and then perform tasks independently. It did not require a lot of training before we were able to begin using the system daily.

Cons

The only thing I disliked about eClinical Works is the overall appearance, but it is a minor dislike not a deal breaker for me.
