I discovered LightSpeed a little over a year ago while researching eCommerce platforms. I downloaded the demo and was quickly impressed with the depth of the workflows and system integration with both mobile devices, eCommerce and multi-store capabilities. I decided to take a deeper look, attended a certification camp and eventually became a LightSpeed Reseller. For the last year, I've built a business based completely on providing LightSpeed oriented point-of-sale services. Our clients are drawn to LightSpeed as total business solution that just works. The interface is clean, intuitive, easy to navigate and provides everything you would expect from Mac based software. Looks and feel aside, the true value of LightSpeed are the integrated workflows that allow businesses a great deal of control. Bottom line, response from our clients is that LightSpeed saves them time and money. LightSpeed isn't the perfect platform for every business, but it's a great platform for most. It provides a open API and their eCommerce component is open source, so with the help of a great reseller and/or developer LightSpeed is highly customizable, which makes it's a very flexible platform to use as your business grows. LightSpeed offers excellent customer support and their senior staff works very closely with the reseller network to ensure end users are receiving quality services that meet their standards. Compared to other systems such as Quickbooks, MicroBiz and Retail Pro, LightSpeed is a definite step up. With that said, there are minor quirks that can be found in the software depending on your type of business. These are not bugs, just features that need a little more polish and attention. The stability of LightSpeed and the organization as a whole is what convinced us to build a business around the software. While a lot of resellers sell multiple POS systems, we believe completely in just one. The demo is free and there are talend resellers all across the country. If you are serious about finding a next generation POS system, LightSpeed is a definite choice.

This is great program to do a lot of things as once, I highly recommend it!

Pros

It is easy to use once you play around with the features a bit. I like that I am able to pull up inventory from not only my store but from stores all over the country. It helps us get the products customers want to them. I also like that we are able to check in inventory on the same system, not syncing with another program. It also serves as a customer database.

Cons

One thing that I do not like about this system is that if I am logged in to both computers at once, sometimes it will cause issues during the payment process and will show as a payment made on both registers which can have an affect on the closing/opening till numbers, but it automatically logs users out and requires their pin to be reentered so this does not happen often only sometimes when we are busy and using both to check people out.

Inventory and customer management were the big game changes for us, before this we had many decentralized systems that didn't talk to each other.

Pros

Great all-in-one system for sales, employee and customer management, gift cards, inventory, purchase orders, and more! Exporting to Quickbooks is a breeze.

Cons

They have great basic reports, but you have to pay more for more detail analytics reports.

The staff were so willing to help and made it very easy for us to transition from the old lightspeed system to Lightspeed retail. There follow support was amazing as well.

Pros

We love that it is fast to use when you have a customer in front of you. It is fast and simple to load now stock and create new stock I has fantastic reports that you can do daily, weekly and monthly. Most of all I love that it can be access remotely, our bookkeeper works of site and she is about to view the system live, it is brilliant.

Cons

We upgrade from the old lightspeed system so we only have positive feedback.

I use lightspeed to run my warehouse and 2 retail locations. The training was great for my staff as they are able to figure out rather complex process without knowing anything technical. We don't have to guess about inventory anymore with analytics as well. Highly recommended.

Pros

non-technical users can learn to perform rather complex process with the system. Inventory management is a big plus

Cons

on the pricey side. The basic monthly cost is acceptable, but once you add customer royalty , analytics, etc... the price came up quite a bit.

Overall we love this software. It makes everything dealing with our inventory a breeze.

Pros

I love this product. We could not run our business without it. One of the best features is when I get an order in from a distributer and it puts it right into my inventory. I just have to make sure we actually got that product and its ready to go.

Cons

One major thing I wish this software was better at was an online presence. I run my online store through another company and it links with my inventory to show my customers if something is in stock. Just something to be aware of.

Pros

Lightspeed is very user friendly. We use it daily at our Gift Shop with no problems. Any time we ever have questions our account manager, representative, is always there to help and answer all our questions. What I love MOST is that it makes reporting and taxes so much easier.

Cons

We don't have any complaints with Lightspeed.

Pros

We have been using Lightspeed eCom for just over a month now. Aside from an initial issue with the configuration of our account, we have been extremely pleased with both the robustness of the platform and the customer service. We migrated from BigCommerce where the customer support was non-existent, the technology consistently full of bugs and where they focus more of their time on their marketing puffery, than actually providing a product that delivers for customers. Some of the pro's with Lightspeed include: - Feature rich platform that does not require handfuls of apps to get basic functionality (like Shopify does). - Blisteringly fast page load times that puts our site in the top 30% of sites for load times. - Extensive selection of quality themes with functionality like customer accounts, and support tickets, quotes and marketing. - Highly customizable with a back office that is well organized to locate and work with areas you need. - Customer service, customer service, customer service! With Shopify the wait times are extended unless you are a Shopify Plus customer. With BigCommerce, you're lucky if they can resolve an issue on the first contact and oftentimes you will wait weeks for a reply, but with Lightspeed, every single interaction I have had with their support team for technical concerns has been resolved on the first call and some of these issues have been complex.

Cons

Make sure that you wait to speak with a sales rep before building out your ecom store. If you plan to use POS too, they will need to provision you with a new account.

I've been using Lightspeed Retail for my brick and mortar boutique, Fringe, for over three years now, and am loving it! Their inventory management options are robust and just what I need for a boutique. I love that Lightspeed just keeps growing and evolving to meet the needs of it's customers, and I have recently been in their BETA group for trying out their new integrated Lightspeed Payments. It's great to have the option to run payments directly with my POS system. I have also recently set up an e-Commerce site with Lightspeed. In considering a platform for my e-comm site, my number one concern was having integrated inventory management so my physical in store inventory would always match my online stock without having to make any manual adjustments, and I am very pleased that Lightspeed can offer this feature to help me streamline my business. As an independent pet supply store, Lightspeed has been a near perfect solution for our inventory and POS needs. We opened our first store just over 2 years ago and our second store 2 months ago and the expansion was very smooth. Lightspeed makes it very easy to track the performance, sales, and inventory of both stores.

Pros

Ease of use. Excellent multi-store functionality. Great inventory and sales reports.

Cons

We have occasional issues with our scanner and card processor. Not sure if this is actually a Lightspeed problem, but the inconvenience has been minimal.

I am very impressed with the excellence in the Customer Service assistance I have always received from LightSpeed. Whether the need is from our Account Executive, Billing Representative, Tech Support. . . they are always ready and willing to assist or answer my questions. I also appreciate the way LightSpeed notifies their customers of upcoming updates & issues that are being investigated and completed or resolved.

Pros

I appreciate the ease of set-up and making the many necessary changes. . e.g. tax rates, shop names, the various aspects of inventory, etc. The options for the many different reports meet all of our needs and more.

Cons

Due to the very unique situation we have with so many shops changing weekly, the only thing I really wish was easier is to have the ability to add inventory to all shops simultaneously.

Before I had CSR help me with my ecom site I just didn't do it. I actually wanted to cancel it and took a fit. After CSR started helping me set up my site I was so relived. I look forward to our weekly sessions and he makes the process fun and creative and explains the more difficult things so I can understand it. I now see progress on a weekly basis and I don't dread doing the work, I enjoy it. It's still a tedious job, but a lot easier with CSR's help.

Pros

I really like that it is connected to the retail inventory. It makes it easy to manage products.

Cons

I found E-commerce complicated before I got some help with customer service.

At The Bar Boss, Lightspeed enables easy functionality in our bar. It's the best PoS, that we have encountered. Fast and reliable, I can make a change in the back end and it is immediately recognized in our front end. Lightspeed's customer service is on point. They are an email, call or chat away. I got quick responses from their support staff whenever, I needed them. I'm able to view different reports, make different products and product categories, combos etc.

Pros

Easy to use, Intuitive Reliable Fast Integration with other software apps, such as accounting.

Cons

Add-ons are a bit costly. Wish the software came with at least accounting built in for a year.

I am not a tech savvy person at all nor is my staff and this system has been a breeze to use and teach. I had battles with two other systems before finding Lightspeed both were the same price and were absolutely awful one of them we referred to Rube Goldberg because the multiple steps it took to do the simplest of task definitely an awesome easy system that has everything I have needed for my business and a competitive price.

Pros

The ability to access my pos system from anywhere is awesome but this product really shines in the category set up and reporting features that really allows you to track sales for an individual item, or any group of items you wish. Also, the catalog importing for new Items is a major time saver.

Cons

some of the default pricing is a little annoying but easy enough to fix. I have had trouble with importing and exporting POs but usually, that can be fixed if you use Firefox as the web browser. I am personally just a crome fan my self.

Pros

Lightspeed pos system is the 1-2 punch that a business needs to organize and stay ahead of the game. From reports so detailed to absolutely fantastic customer support you will truly see the value you the system once to dive in. Business moves so fast in this day and age so I live by the motto “evolve or dissolve”. With lightspeed I’m confident with my inventory, reporting and 24 hour support! \*special note, if you are blessed by having CSRs handle your lightspeed acct you will be extremely happy with the level of patience and commitment they have for making lightspeed the one and only choice!

Cons

Only con I have with lightspeed is that I did not discover it sooner!

Lightspeed as a POS for retail is great. When I started my position they were using a server based POS system which didn't work for the growth of the business to Amazon, Ebay and our two Shopify stores. I absolutely love lightspeed - they have great customer service and I know that if anything happens it will be fixed quickly. Highly recommend!

Pros

Easy to use and great customer service. Cannot ask for a better product

Cons

The one thing I wish this product would do is be able to run the custom fields we have in a report.

Anytime I have any questions or need something resolved the support is amazing!! Our inventory management is spot on and it is very easy to utilize the customer loyalty program we have. Very user friendly for all ages.

Pros

Ease of use, very easy to set up on the back end, great add on's (Loyalty program), ecom is very easy to set up. Able to pull up sales or reports from my phone anytime. Great inventory management very easy to check in merchandise and take inventory.

Cons

The breakdown on the sales receipt so it is easier for the customer to read.

I changed my retail store to this software when we were one location; we have expanded to two more stores in three states total, and I love that the product grew with the company. It is a great synchronous mastermind behind the scenes!

Pros

The fields are fairly easy to customize, which could be good for a variety of businesses. The software works quickly, on a good internet connection, and syncs very well. The product inventory is also easy to edit, and the invoicing system works seamlessly. I love the minimalist design, which is modern and easy to navigate. The customer records are also great, better than any other database.

Cons

Not a lot of offline features; also lacking a great e-communications/marketing aspect so I have to use other vendors.

For the pet industry they already have tons of catalogs of items from common distributors, this makes setting up a new store very quick and easy. It also helps my employees track down special items for customers that we may not regularly stock.

Pros

It greatly reduces my workload as a small business owner and lets me do a lot of work from the comfort of my home. It also provides absolutely incredible information through their analytics that has already saved me thousands of dollars in the 6 months I've been using that side of the program.

Cons

I do have to have a constant connection to the internet to use it. If I have technical problems with my hardware or connection it can screw things up. Fortunately they have a great iPad app, so I got a cell enabled iPad just incase I have any problems on my side. It also allows me sell at events, so generally it worked out.
