Pros

It's easy to use, we have three locations and it's been great for integration. So far it's been great.

Cons

There are some pretty hefty fees if you want to integrate multiple stores onto their ecommerce platform, or want to use giftcards on the website. It ends up being pretty expensive.

Lightspeed Retail is an easy to learn, highly intuitive cloud-based software for the retail POS, but at the same time gives you all the information you need (and then some) to run your small, medium or large business. As we prepare to open a second location, the fact that Lightspeed's multi-store capability keeps inventory synced across all locations is a huge plus My favorite feature by far is the ability to log into my POS from any computer, pad or phone. Lightspeed has revolutionized our POS experience. From receiving to inventory control to sales, layaways and special orders it meets all our needs and more. Our service department uses Lightspeed for all work orders, allowing us to use hooks to quickly find bikes and bar codes to quickly sell out the order when done. The best thing about Lightspeed though is their support. When I run into a problem that I don't know how to solve I've got a representative on the phone or chatting on the computer quickly to get me all sorted out. I highly recommend Lightspeed, especially if you are a bike shop. It's game changing.

Pros

Great integration with many bike vendors catalogs

Cons

The number of users at the base level seems really small when you have a lot of part time help.

I own two mattress stores in Austin, TX and have used LS for over 3 years. Most of the functions on LS are intuitive and the workflow is easy to get a handle on. It is simple enough that I can train a new employee quickly, and yet robust enough that it helps me keep an eye on all the pertinent information. Some of the initial set up is a bit confusing, but I found the LS staff to be patient and helpful (whether they are talking with me or my book keeper). We enjoy the fact that the receipts are very customizable and look very nice for a large purchase such as a mattress. I also love the related products feature, we sell in sets and we can build product relationships to reflect that. The reporting system is great as well. It is not highly intuitive, but once you get the hang of it you can decipher all the information you need. I would like to see improvements in the mobile app as well as in the 'station' settings. Overall, this is a fantastic product for Mac based retail stores. I love how it functions and love how it feels.

Pros

The vendor is simi easy to work with. You have to know your terminology and ask lots of questions about what you actually get vs what you think your getting.

Cons

They are not up front with what is lacking in their service and that they do not blend well with many major providers of the services you need to add on. GoDaddy being the biggest issue.

Couldn't have found a better retail POS software that works right from my iPad, or phone to check on inventory from the sales floor or ring up customers in line or at vendor holiday shows. Easily place products into a website which has some great free themes to choose from. Love that integrating a blog is there but it's not as well set up as it could be for a profitable blog which is key for any business now. I'm sure they'll have an upgrade soon. Great customer service from lightspeed at any time of day with little wait time.

Pros

Easy to use, with minimal website knowledge you can build an online presence from your inventory. Great customer service and IT department.

Cons

Few integrated credit card processing companies to choose from.

We are having a very hard time finding a working software that can work in our service are, stores and control our inventory. Oh yes, and did I say it must work with Quickbooks. Well, the Quickbooks interface is horrible. It sends batches of transactions and not the actual customer by customer transaction. Very poor and pretty useless Quickbooks interface. It also does not work giving the information for customers that pay on account. There are no aging reports at all. How can we efficiently call on customers that owe us money? It seemed easy at making estimates but aside from that, pretty unusable for us.

Pros

Easy online interface. Easy to upload the information to start.

Cons

No aging reports. Minimal and unusable Quickbooks Interface.

Cons

I used 3 different programs before finding Lightspeed in 2007 to run my art gallery. Designing my own POS in File Maker was "fun" after a year of using excel. Then we went to POSIM, but it didn't have the end user feel or functionality I wanted. Ease-of-use (once up and running) and adaptability to different workflows are its strength. The ability to find data (slice and dice) easily with powerful smart finds has simplified our workflows. We operated 3 locations for a time and found the multi-store features invaluable. While I uses webstore, it is not our focus. But it is so easy to click a button and add the items already in the system to the web that during our busy season it adds an additional 10% or so. I figured out that if you email support a screen shot of your problem you get better/faster service because they don't have to do as much digging to figure out what your are talking about. Other than that, work with a local reseller/trainer to help make the initial data setup go faster/smoother.

Pros

The customer service and setup help provided by Lightspeed is second to none. They can be integrated with WooCommerce, albeit after a few tweaks here and there.

Cons

The system is a little pricey, but they justify it with customer service and functionality. Since you are technically on their platform if something goes wrong they cover it. Still though, a monthly fee, setup fee and er product sale fee.

The name is completely accurate. It is a quick workhorse with a good variety of functions for our small business.

Pros

We use it for inventory, POS, and time clock. Everyone seems to catch on pretty quickly in training. We rarely encounter hiccups. It's convenient to use for accessing inventory from our different locations.

Cons

Warehouse functionality maybe? It may already have some of that and our admins just haven't clued us in.

We are in the process of transitioning to Lightspeed from RMS and they have already been hands down more helpful and offered better resources to train our staff and smooth our transition over what we'd previously used. We are very happy with the support from the staff so far.

Pros

We are still in the onboarding process, but it already offers many new features that we did not previously have

Cons

Scheduling features seem to be missing natively, and would be appreciated.

Overall, very happy with this software. We previously worked with a company that had hidden fees, no hidden fees with Lightspeed. They are upfront about everything.

Pros

Easy to use software. Setting up the basic store was simple. It took a couple of weeks until we wrapped our heads around data input, but once we did and started uploading data from spreadsheets, it was a breeze. The e-commerce site is slick. Easy to use and the finished product looks like a million bucks. Lastly

Cons

The one major downfall of this software is the way they treat case-packs. They treat them as boxes and it is very confusing. We decided not to use case-packs because of it.

Toy software. Looks shiny but without any substance. Xsilva should have made more progress with this software considering it's something like 5 years old. A lot of elementary functionality is missing. Lightspeed is fragile and crashes a lot, especially in POS mode. Lightspeed is infrequently updated and lot of missing features that users request never get implemented. POS Mode is severely lacking features such as voiding a sale, and ability to close out a register. POS mode has trouble after more than 5-6 items are adding because it doesn't automatically refocus on the last line item. Furthermore there are all sorts of issues relating to scanning products, such as that you need to manually enter the search field in order for scans to go through. Support acknowledges known issues by stating that they may or may not be resolved some time in the future. You'd think that the company would try to maintain a standard thats expected in the mac ecosystem. Steve Jobs is probably rolling in his grave.

Having our POS system in the cloud has allowed us to devote hardware and software IT resources to other areas of our business. Having the ability to access our POS at home, on the road, and on our phones has made us more organized, more productive, and smarter with our purchasing decisions. I have been able to reduce our inventory on hand by about 20%.

Pros

Ease of use, simple and fast loading pages, no more hardware and software issues for our store to deal with. Work order management is very well thought out and organized. No more data to backup.

Cons

Wish they had more users included in our single cash register plan. We have a lot of part-time summer help.

We've been using LightSpeed since we opened and I will say that they have a tremendous sales & support staff. We are a retail apparel environment that stocks a lot of "Style Numbers" and the program issues a separate number for each size of each style of each color. The set up of the system was easy. I didn't go through a reseller, just the home company. My employees get it easier than any system I've used at previous shops. The only issues I have with it are in the reporting side. They cannot (from what I've been told) issue a report that gives you a simple snapshot of "Item - Recieved - Sold - On Hand". If you have a list of the reporting needs you have, then research if LightSpeed has it, it'll save you some headaches later when you realize you can't find the data you need and have to look for a different way to get it. From what I understand, LightSpeed is working on the functionality of their reporting, so that will be nice. All in all, a very good system for the price.

Pros

It used to work wonderfully well until an upgrade about six months ago.

Cons

There are a number of major bugs with the system when creating a customer order. Essentially, there is a flaw that will not allow certain steps to be taken. One must log out of Lightspeed and then log back in. This can take minutes and something other POS users on other terminals will need to log out to get this to work. Try telling a retail customer who you are trying to serve that you have to restart your system and do this continuously through the day. Sounds like fun? No it isn't. Lightspeed have just now launched a new update - 2015.1.2.0 (r93) and they've even redesigned their logo. Do you think they've fixed this glaring bug? Nope they haven't. It's been 6 months guys.

Cloud-based ability to work on inventory at home. I spent 6 months researching dozens of POS systems and it was the only one that had all the features our bookstore needed.

Cons

Frequent outages, especially during busy times at our store. We've lost thousands in sales the past few months due to server problems on Lightspeed's end. They don't seem to have the money or qualified staff to implement infrastructure changes quickly and competently.
