It is the Cadillac of on screen takeoff software. Cons I used it as an employee of a large construction company. It cuts estimating time and costs by over half and the accuracy of take offs pay for the software in its self. Pros the program is user friendly and has a quick learning curve. Start up for the software is great and includes two days of training to meet your company needs. Uses vibrant colors and shapes to make take off easy and quick. Cons I don't really have many cons for this program as the company actively updates its software to facilitate the users needs. If I had to pick a con it would be that you are forced to buy support annually if you would like to get any sort of help with the software once your subscription is up. Review Source JS Joseph S. It is the fastest software and easiest to use for that application. It saves quite a bit of time. Pros On screen is very easy to use. It is a quick way to do takeoffs for any roadway, subdivision, or other projects that you need to get a square footage on. It an also do linear measurements and aid in counting objects that are to be done per each. This is our go to software when we need to do a quick square footage of a project. Cons This software is not any good at doing earthwork takeoffs. If you need to do any type of earthwork take off you will need two separate software applications. There is no real easy way to do arc or circle takeoffs. You have to click multiple times in the arc or circle and get as close to the line as possible. Review Source DS Dan S. It is the first take off tool that I ever used and have had no problem. Cons Some times no intuitive enough. It is the First Take Off tool I use so sometimes it was hard to find a common function. They can create templates to speed up the takeoff process, quickly modify existing takeoffs when changes are made to the plans. Cons The license management of the tool is frustrating. When we have slow Internet connections or connecting over our VPN we can not get a license. Most of my estimators have to borrow the licenses when working from home. Review Source AO Amber O. Pros Speeds up the process of doing a take off and allows anyone else to pickup where another user left off Cons Importing drawings can sometime be finicky but the customer service support team is great and quick to reply when you need help. This is also great during construction to provide adequate materials onsite. Cons There is nothing that I do not like about this product as the features provide you exactly what you need during the estimating phase. Pros I use this software as a means for QTO when I am creating a budget and when I need to back check my subs so we don't have a scope gap. More accurate bids and proposals without fear of missing something on colorized takeoff Cons Wish I would have had more time to train on Quick Bid in stead of on the job training, but I am gradually getting comfortable. I like this product because it is user friendly and has several built in tools that others may not have. In addition, other software can be limited in functions or available tools. I also like that the customer service representatives are friendly and helpful. Cons The export function to excel gets stuck at times other than that its good. I would like an option to measure segments on a page to accurately scale a page. As it is, a scale has to be either selected or created which could be a hassle when the page does not have a scale in which case you just have to guess until you get the right measurement you're looking for. Used the software for: ### "" October 10, 2013 4.0 I have been using On-Screen Takeoff and Quick Bid since 2005. Since then, I have learned to modify the software for many different applications. Before On Center, I used to do takeoffs by hand. I quote many jobs a year, and too many things can go wrong. Sometimes, the GC's change materials or quantities at the last minute. That is no problem. As long as you have all of your materials taken off to completeness, you really only have to worry about the other half, the labor. I also have modified and added conditions to include steel and iron connections - either welded or bolted. Attending out of town training helped tremendously. They are always there for help when needed. When you are quoting jobs - whether $3K or $1million - this is the tool to use. All guesswork is gone. This software counts the smallest details like screws, rolls of tape, or corner beads. These are far too laborious to do by hand. Even when roofs are concerned it, calculates your pitch on 2-dimensional drawings to give a more accurate square-footage count. Review Source FM Felix M. Cons Apparently there is a Sunset clause where they can cancel your software. Considering the time value of money better to get a program that costs less up front with a monthly fee then to be forced to spend thousands to purchase new software every couple of years. Also its nice to be able to see every important information about the company. Cons It appears that not all companies can be searched for the chicagoland area and also companies you know are in the software sometimes do not appear when searched.
