### "Blue beam review"

August 19, 2021

4.0

It is my preferred PDF editor and I constantly use it to make edits

Pros

It is very user friendly and very intuitive. The dashboards are set up similar to acad and I can draw pretty well. The editing features are also top notch.

Cons

It is a bit pricey for a PDF editor. You can get adobe versions much cheaper and while it maybe less functional, the adobe programs do work ok.

### "Bluebeam: Professional PDF editor"

January 19, 2026

5.0

I would rate this a sold 9/10. It is extremely smart tool for PDF editing with real time collaboration. It is tailor made for professional work rather than a personal one.

Pros

Most Liked: The sheer ability to edit PDF files. This is our go to PDF editing tool in the company. It is strictly professional where we can collaborate in real time.

Cons

Its slightly overpriced for a beginner or even a small company. And, for a beginner who has no experience in PDF editing can find this software humbling.

### "Bluebeam review"

My overall experience with bluebeam revu is very good, especially once get familiar with the program, and will continue to use for the foreseeable future.

Pros

What i like the most about bluebeam revu is the ease of use for marking up pdf drawings and compiling comments.

Cons

What I like the least about bluebeam revu is that it takes some getting used to, especially coming from acrobat, but once you do its a great tool.

### "Frustrated with support."

February 10, 2026

4.0

Great until something occurred that no one seemed able to help with. The solution was painfully slow.

Pros

The product is fantastic for drawing, markup and collaboration. PDF documents are a breeze to navigate. Overall the product itself is great.

Cons

For no reason, I was notified that my subscription had expired (6 months before it was supposed to). I was off line, unable to use my product and I was shuttled from one person to another that was 'looking into it' for over a week while my workflow was basically shut down.

### "Bluebeam is the best for construction drawings"

August 18, 2025

4.0

Pros

I use Bluebeam the most for reviewing and marking up construction drawings. The tools that Bluebeam offers make it very easy to import specific stamps that you use often, cloud/highlight certain areas of a document and even move pages around. I also really love the comparing tool where you can lay multiple page on top of each other to see where they differ without having to figure it out on your own side-by-side.

Cons

Occasionaly Bluebeam with glitch and not maximize from the start bar, even though I know the app is open and I have documents open within it. This generally has to do with disconnecting from my docking station, and hasn't ever effected documents saving correctly - but is annoying none-the-less to disconnect my computer, walk into a meeting, then not be able to open for presentation.

### "Untrustworthy Developer - Dropped the ball"

September 18, 2019

3.0

Pros

Brings a lot of features and functionality missing from Acrobat. To my knowledge, no other PDF software is geared towards the A+E market. I wish there was another one out there so that these guys didn't have a monopoly on the market. It has given them a sense of invincibility that has led to stagnation and a lack of genuine support for their customers.

Cons

I've been using Revu for about 8 years, 5 of those on Windows. The last 3 are at my most recent job, and when I found out that Bluebeam had created a Revu for Mac, I was quick to push our company to adopt. I even gave a lunchtime presentation to show everyone some of the really powerful features I had come to know and love from the windows side. Playing with the trial version of 1.0, though, I quickly realized that a ton of features were absent from the windows version. I went ahead and gave the presentation anyway, though and with some convincing, we bought seats for everyone. It became clear within the first week of using the software, though, that it was incredibly slow. So slow as to be unusable. It took several seconds to render every page... considering that we regularly deal with 100+ page architectural sets, this made the program worthless in a lot of cases. What's more we really felt the lack of some features from the windows side, many of which were so basic that it's laughable that Bluebeam decided not to invest in them. You can't crop pdfs for instance. Anyway, when bluebeam for mac 2.0 came out, we bought in thinking that we'd be getting all of the features that we were missing along with performance improvements. Turns out they decided to revamp the UI with almost 0 feature inclusions. The performance of page rendering was significantly improved, which was helpful, although page thumbnails now no longer load.

### "Bluebeam Revu - Construction Drawings and PDF Files"

May 28, 2025

5.0

This software is focussed on exactly what we do and the experience for all has been very good. Working on large construction drawings and being able to collaborate on multiple PDF files has improved our workflows immensely.

Pros

This product integrated with our CAD tools perfectly. Having a PDF editor working inside AutoCAD is a game changer.

Cons

This product has a bit of a learning curve to understand all the features and sometimes struggles with large files.

### "Simple and Effective"

February 11, 2025

5.0

Fantastic. Use it daily for take-offs and regularly for uses it probably isn't even intended for.

Pros

AutoCAD's non-Ivy League cousin, Bluebeam is simple to use but has the potential for incredible stuff. I use it daily for take-off's.

Cons

Updated from a one time purchase to a yearly subscription model. Has conveniences for sure, but they are charging more.

### "A must-have for construction estimating"

September 17, 2024

5.0

When I started using BlueBeam, I was able to cut down my time totaling measurements from 45 min a page on average to absolute 0. This was a huge help to me as I was the only one bidding the smaller construction jobs. With my extra time, I was able to put more bids together in the same amount of time, win more bids, and deal with change orders easily. The upfront cost was scary at 1st but it is worth every penny.

Pros

The fact that BlueBeam adds up all the values that have been measured/counted makes life so much easier. I was using PDF X-Change before which allowed me to measure all that I needed to but I was stuck with an excel spreadsheet, hovering over every single line to add everything up with formulas. This took literal hours. Now everything is added up along the way and there's no need to use additional programs to get my totals. The fill feature was also a game changer for me. it lessened my time measuring area measurement significantly.

Cons

When using the Fill feature, the lines do have to be solid and bold for it to work effectively. This took a little while for me to figure out and there are some plans that is won't work for at all, such as hand drawn plans. There are work arounds like using the border feature to try to contain it but any opening will ruin the progress so far.

Switched from

[PDF-XChange](https://www.capterra.com/p/170838/PDF-XChange/)

I no longer needed to total my measurements. The cost was a leap but it easily paid for itself in the time I saved within the 1st 6 months. It also made mistakes easier to correct by allowing me to change the scale when needed instead of remeasuring with the correct scale in mind.

### "Amazing PDF reader, better than Adobe Acrobat. Very useful engineering tools"

September 15, 2023

5.0

This is the fastest tool when it comes to drawing review, pdf document creation and control, and diagram creation. The tools at your disposal allow you to do many things which other programs do not. I would recommend this software over any other PDF reader.

Pros

Very handy and intuitive engineering tools, you can mark up drawings, get measurements and estimate quantities very easily. The drawings tools are also very useful, allowing for easy creation of clean diagrams. The PDF tools are powerful and I have completely phased out Adobe Acrobat in favour of using Bluebeam.

Cons

The only downside I have come across is the inability to created lines of fixed length, you have to create a measurement and then create a line to match the measurement.

Switched from

[Adobe Acrobat Reader](https://www.capterra.com/p/170833/Acrobat-Reader-DC/)

Adobe is harder to use and not as intuitive or sophisticated when it comes to editing tools as Bluebeam. As a PDF reader Bluebeam loads and displays files much better than Adobe, it optimised well and rarely crashes and doesn't have the same visual bugs than Adobe often has.

### "The best software for engineers!"

August 25, 2022

5.0

I am very satisfied with the BlueBeam and its capabilities. It makes my work more manageable and accessible.

Pros

BlueBeam supports many different file formats compared to Adobe Reader. It can open Image files and can open Internet browser through it. This makes it one stop solution station for multiple problems. It reduces workload. BlueBeam allows sessions that can be used by multiple organizations and trades and same time. This save project budget and time.

Cons

BlueBeam can not open 2 online sessions at same time. In order to that, you have to exit out of one session to access another. This is time consuming and unnecessary.

### "A great software for engineering firms"

September 6, 2021

5.0

I am very happy with the software. I have been using it for over an year now and I definitely recommend it to anyone who is starting off in an engineering firm. You will spend a large part of your time working with this software. It has all the bells and whistles and there is literally nothing more than you can want out of it. However, this sometimes makes it difficult to find some stuff. I would like to see an option to toggle between a simple document review option (similar to Adobe Acrobat Pro) and a detailed drawing review option. Otherwise I am very happy and it manages to surprise me everyday with the sheer amount of features available.

Pros

Primarily one might feel it's just another PDF reviewer and editor similar to Adobe Acrobat Pro, but this is more catered towards engineering jobs. It's easy to make markups on the drawings, with specific options like revision clouds, grid lines among other things. One can also make some specific markups and save them in their tool box. One neat feature is the ability to compare two documents by overlaying them on top of each other. This is especially helpful to check if their were any changes in different revisions of the drawings which can be easily missed by a normal human review.

Cons

Since it's so much loaded with features, sometimes it becomes difficult to find exactly what you needed to do. It is in such times that I miss the simplicity of Adobe Acrobat Pro, where the User Interface is clean. But then again Adobe is catered towards a general document review whereas Bluebeam Revu caters engineering firms. I would like to see an option to turn on and off the detailed User Interface to get a more simplistic Adobe like interface as required.

Switched from

[Adobe Acrobat](https://www.capterra.com/p/251329/Adobe-Acrobat-DC/)

I switched companies and the new company is using Bluebeam Revu for its engineering jobs. The previous company I was working for did their markups in Adobe Acrobat Pro.

I think blue beam is a great choice, especially if you choose to get the higher tier software package. It includes OCR as well as visual recognition, which helps tremendously when you’re looking for something.

Pros

I believe it is one of the easiest Software’s to learn as well as it being widely used that creates lots of resources to collaborate with others

Cons

### "An essential tool for the AE Industry"

May 24, 2023

5.0

Bluebeam Revu proved to be even more an essential tool during the pandemic when the team was remote. During that time clients and consultants became more familiar with it's functions and now we are able to save money and time by reducing in person meetings.

Pros

Bluebeam Revu provides such a wide breadth of tools, users can create or edit a document in almost any way they see fit. The ability to format a document using page labels, bookmarks, and hyperlinks allows us to present information in a digestible way regardless the size of the document. The search function and markups list make looking for information a snap. When in doubt, use Bluebeam.

Cons

Aside from being expensive, there is nothing to dislike about Bluebeam Revu. There are enough tutorials online to bring new staff up to speed. Tools can be accessed from customized toolbars or the menu header making it easy to catch on.

### "Very comprehensive pdf editing software - I'll never go back to Adobe!!!"

February 9, 2018

5.0

I spend a lot less time posting changes and as-builts, but with much more professional results. I also love the time it's cut down on creating our punch lists and tracking the completion of those items.

Pros

I love that it can "read" my plans, and help me with my takeoffs. The search function can look for either words or symbols, and is incredibly useful when I'm looking for something specific. The different user type profiles are tailored to show the tools and functions that someone in that role would be more likely to use the most. It's easy to switch between these profiles, even when viewing the same file, so no matter what or how many hats I'm wearing that day, it's easy to find the tools that I need for the job I'm doing. The customizable tool box is great - I can use the existing tools, or create my own! These are handy for posting as-builts, as well as for doing take offs and estimates. I love all the short cut keys!! Instead of using my mouse to select tool options, I can simply use the "G" key to take a "photo" of a certain part of my open file, or "C" to cloud an area. I use these frequently and it really cuts down the time I spend posting changes to our drawings. There are so many tools, functions, and options, that you're sure to find everything you need for seamless and efficient construction drawing management!

Cons

At first, it was a bit overwhelming to use. There are so many tools and menus that it definitely took a little time to learn; however, Bluebeam offers hundreds of short "how-to" videos on many different topics. After watching these, and using the software for a few weeks, it got much easier.

### "Best PDF Program for Architecture/Design/Construction"

August 26, 2022

5.0

It has been a great collaborative tool for the company I work for. We are all in different locations and has made remote working much easier. Supervisors can look over files and redline things while another worker in a different location is correcting the items at the same time. It is also a great file management tool as the Sessions allow to keep document files together that many people can access simultaneously

Pros

The features that Bluebeam Revu has are far above and beyond to other PDF reading/editing software out there, especially for those that are in the design/construction industry. It has a slight learning curve when you're used to other programs, but once you learn, there is no going back. The best feature in my opinion is the ability to collaborate in real time. When files are uploaded to a Session, multiple people can be in the same file at the same time. Someone can be marking up and making comments while others can be seeing these comments and revising things on their end at the same time. There is no need to wait for a person to finish marking up a file and send it in an email, it can be done simultaneously.

Cons

Honestly, there are not many cons about this software. The only issue I had with the program was the learning curve of how to use it, as I had to learn on my own.

### "Bluebeam Revu is to construction professionals what Excel is to finacial professionals"

October 13, 2017

5.0

More than any other software package, Bluebeam is by far the most valuable to me in my daily work. Thanks Bluebeam!

Pros

I have been using BB Revu PDF software since 2010, when I switched from Adobe Professional. Revu is designed for construction personnel. I use it for reviewing documents and drawings, marking up, sketching, quantity take off, illustrating, presentations, flowchart and Org Chart creations - just almost everything. I convert word documents to PDF for reviewing. I add bookmarks as way-finder through large documents such as Specifications, Reports and Specifications etc. For drawing reviews or study, I compile large packs of PDF drawings into single PDF with drawing numbers visible under Bookmarks. With Revu you can have 2 (or more)drawings opened on your screen, from within the combined pack or separate files, for comparing eg Elevations and Sections or plans or details. Sometimes I use the auto compare feature in comparing updated drawing with an older version where the differences will be highlighted. The Search feature is extremely useful and I use it a lot in finding references in Specifications Codes and Reports etc. The Spaces feature is really good and impresses hugely when included within presentations. Signature feature also excellent. I use the Add Ins for Outlook, Word, Excel and CAD regularly. I find the Help Section and Bluebeam University incredible. The Developers really put themselves in the place of the "normal" user and provide excellent vide demos of all the features.

Cons

File sizes generated in marking up and sketching tend to be quite large. There are ways to reduce the file size but they do not work all the time - sometimes they increase the size.I have tried a few times to engage design consultants in the use of the Studio feature for real-time online collaboration without success. This is however is not the fault of the Studio feature - its just that the designers did not have the software.

### "Easy to use. Lot of functionality."

February 6, 2018

5.0

Quickly and easily edit PDFs. More powerful and functional than most of the basic PDF applications available. Merge documents from a Windows Explorer window.

Pros

Bluebeam has a lot of buttons and features out-of-the-box. The default layout is intuitive. Quickly and easily add text, highlights, shapes, callouts, and lines to PDFs. The buttons for rotating the page are readily available. Taking snapshots/copies, cropping, and other editing functions are easy. Bluebeam has measurement tools so you can easily get dimensions off of plans. There are tons of keyboard shortcuts and "toolboxes" that allow you to perform repetitive tasks quickly. Customize stamps to create signatures or other repetitive text like "Reviewed By..." or dynamic shop drawing stamps (like "Make Corrections Noted"). Flatten tool allow you to lock your edits into place. Security features are also available. Bluebeam also allows you to merge/staple multiple sheets together and further manipulate pages within a document.

Cons

Bluebeam provides a lot of functionality, but depending on your needs you may be able to use something cheaper and less functional. You should weigh your need for a tool like this. The "Staple" function for combining files within a Windows Explorer window/menu could be a little simpler. It currently brings up a dialogue box that is overly complicated and not intuitive. Other software like Adobe Acrobat allow you to do this much easier with only a few mouse clicks.
