IT Manager Construction Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Not sure how this product got so many good reviews" October 31, 2017 1.0 This may be extremely appealing to AEC industry companies, but my advice as an IT professional is save yourself the headache and just go with Adobe. Adobe is more expensive in the long-run but the price savings with Bluebeam isn't worth the time you'll spend with unhappy end users who can't do basic tasks, not to mention the hours you'll spend dealing with Bluebeam's support staff who doesn't care and developers who have clearly not tested their products before going live. Pros Bluebeam comes with lots of features for AEC industry users. It also comes with lots of customization options for how the product is used/viewed. Cons Where to start...half of the important features have bugs; either they only partially work or they don't work at all. The "stapler" is great in concept but their execution of it is terrible. Why do we need two windows to simply combine pdfs?? They offer editable pdf features that they "don't respect" such as the "show" option on document properties, you can't edit text from exported CAD drawings, form field recognition is the pits, the conversion of documents to PDF is slow as molasses, the browser plugin simply does not work, profile customizations such as "default output folder" are not respected, I could go on and on. Even worse, their customer support is AWFUL. Out of 7 tickets I've submitted in the past month since we've gone live, not one issue has been resolved. Review Source Scott B. Cons There are so many features and options in order to utilize them all additional training would be needed. It also makes it simple to update the project drawings with changes so that everyone is using the most up to date drawings. Pros The software has great tools to collaborate with trades, architects, engineers, and other members of the project team. With bluebeam studio, it makes it simple to upload drawings for the team to access and to take on the go via the iPad app. The markup tools are also great for every day coordination, site planning, drawing mark-ups, shop drawing review, etc. The possibilities are endless! Cons The mobile app is a bit clunky and is slower than other PDF viewers I have seen in the field. There is a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, then you can do so much with this software. It's especially useful for large teams working on the same documents. Pros Sessions to work in teams and able to make revisions to the same document. Easy to highlight construction drawings. Able to combine PDFs from multiple file sources. Export PDF files into other file sources with exact formatting. Cons Takes time to learn the functions of the software. It has the greatest value of any software out there. It has the flexibility to do everything from estimating takeoffs to creating full designs. As they continue to add functionality to it every year it gets better and better. Cons Bluebeam has had it's issues over the years but overall it is an exceptional piece of software. The biggest issue I have is when dealing with large files and the page having to reload after every movement. If they could figure out a way to remove that lag time it would make Bluebeam almost perfect. Ability to change size and color of various items is also key. Cons Not many Cons. Every once in a while the file size will slow the process down. But other than that, nor Cons. It is easy to use, cheap and helps you in the right direction. It saves time because in the past we had to redraw those plans in AutoCAD to make take-off. The program is just that good. I appreciate that rather than terminate the use of the program they have allowed users to continue with their last version of the software Pros Excellent software for annotating pdfs, quick estimates, and sketching. Lots of depth and useful functions in the program even on the lightened Mac version. Available with a single user licence rather than subscription base which is nice Cons It's unable to read certain PDF files (Acrobat Only). Being able to quickly markup with hotkeys, changing colours, thickness and styles of lines and shapes is key for me. Also being able to calibrate the scale and measure off the sheets. Adding new pages in and copy from one point in a page to the same on the next are also great features Cons There is no way to change between previously preset line styles. Being able to openly collaborate with many people and to have digital record of the markups and changes is outstanding. We can simply pass the exact information on to the different teams throughout the construction process. It helps our guys on-site keep up to date with the most current changes and revisions. This helps ensure that the work gets installed to the latest drawings and specifications. There are so many options and tools available to work with. It truly is crazy. Bluebeam is a very important tool for my team as we implement and enforce construction standards on a university campus.
