Mechanical Engineer Construction Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Overall, A Great Software Program for Team Collaboration" April 23, 2026 4.0 Overall, I like using Bluebeam Revu for its ease of use and the many functions that can be done. The only dislike is that when working with larger files, the program occasionally crashes without warning. If this could be resolved, this would be a near perfect program in my opinion. Pros I like how much quicker this program can run than when using Adobe. I also like how easy it is to mark up and add comments to drawings and also to create collaborative sessions with other Team members and see comments made in real-time. I also like how easy it is to scale drawing sheets accordingly and to get measurements of floor plans without the need to use a CAD software program. Cons What I like least about Bluebeam Revu is that the program occasionally crashes abruptly without notice and I end up losing any unsaved work. I have had the program reinstalled and with the latest updates in hopes that this would fix the issue, but the program still seems to crash without warning. I have noticed this particularly when working with larger files. I was the go-to for creating Bluebeam exhibits & markups/quantity takeoffs. When people ask me what programs they need to run a construction business, Bluebeam is easily top 3. Pros Bluebeam is the best PDF editor/markup/exhibit creation tool I have ever used. I use it daily and I could not do my job without it. Cons I can't think of any right now. Our company relies on this software for critical projects, yet getting timely or effective help from Bluebeam’s support team is impossible. Ironically, we’d gladly pay more if it meant receiving the level of service required to actually use the product as intended. A few years ago, support was passable—not great, but at least functional. Now, it’s downright negligent. Tickets go unanswered, issues remain unresolved, and the lack of responsiveness has cost us time and money. I no longer recommend Bluebeam to anyone. In fact, I’ve made it a point to warn every director, engineer, and colleague I know to avoid it and explore alternatives. It’s a shame—such a capable product is ruined by a company that refuses to stand behind it with decent customer service. I do recommend going through some of the training though since you're likely only scraping the surface of what BlueBeam can do without doing some training! Love the cut and paste and measuring function of the software Cons The shortcut commands of the software are too long and cumbersome to use because most of them require 3 key strokes like measuring requires ‘alt shift L’. Shortcuts should be maximum of 2 key strokes, not 3. Provide autosave function and more videos on how to be an expert user. Provide function to enable users to change small caps into all caps & vice versa without the need to rely on additional plugged in app of another add on software. Cons While this is meant to be a viewer rather than an editing tool, competitors do offer slightly more editing functions in their basic entries. I would be cautious the program loses connectivity often enough to where it affected our workflow. Uncertain days nobody in the office. Could do anything for an hour or two because their server is having issues and it would constantly keep disconnecting. Pros It completely replaced printing documents for review in our office. I like all the editing capabilities and how well you can have your entire team edit a document live even if they're working remotely. The sessions feature is amazing. Cons The worst feature about it is that it is cloud hosted so whenever you lose connection your dot turns red and it's not super noticeable. I absolutely love all the extra things that I can do in bluebeam that I cannot in adobe. Being able to use this software for more than just a PDF and for estimating projects has made life way easier and help make sure we are not missing items on the estimates. Pros Bluebeam has an amazing customizable tool box which I find the most helpful! There are certain tools I will use over and over again and having this quick popup with all my tools to grab and use saves me so much time. Also, adding pages into a current document is as easy as just dropping into the place where you want it. If you are using bluebeam more for just PDF purposes, this software will do so much more than adobe and give me cleaner documents. I use it alot to make submittals and I need to markup and add/ move pages alot and this makes it the easiest and fastest way for me to do so. I can remove items off the pages and add notes when needed. I can go on about the list of amazing features this offers, like counting how many outlets I need on the plan, or resizing and signing it. Your options here are endless. Cons The biggest downside to bluebeam is that it takes time to learn and isn't very user friendly for the average person. Figuring out what each tool does takes some time, and sometimes there are a few you can use for the same thing. Since bluebeam has so many features it can be hard to narrow down or even locate the one you are needing. This is why that custom tool box is so handy.
