Pros: I use the software to accomplish 80% of my duties so I may be a bit biased.

The software is extremely flexible allowing you solve many problems using its predefined processes and functions. It can be used to solve many types of reporting problems. It has built in solutions to many common and uncommon statistical and business problems.

It has a variety of interfaces that are available to clients, depending on what a user needs they might choose to use different tools that are available to them. The whole suite is actually quite large and most users will only ever touch the parts of it that helps them accomplish their goals. The SAS eco-system is extensive, mature and well-developed. We rely on it for many mission critical solutions.

Cons: Often times the various prebuilt processes have their own syntax and they are not consistent throughout the application. The software package is not cheap.

Excellent statistical analysis software, but be prepared to pay!

Pros: SAS 9.3 gives you tremendous power to clean, manipulate, and analyze large datasets. I've been a SAS user for a while and prior to that I had only worked with SPSS. SAS opened the door for me to think about my data differently. I've used SAS now on criminal sentencing data, healthcare claims data, and operational case management data. Whether you need to create an automated report, write algorithms to mine data, or prep a dataset for another software like Tableau, SAS is a fantstic tool. Additionally, SAS has a litany of trainings available for purchase to help you get the most of your data.

Cons: SAS is very costly. It's important to keep in mind that in addition to being a product, SAS is also a programming language that as of writing is not patented. If you are on a budget there is a company out of the UK that sells a software that runs Base SAS programming language for a fraction of a price, great for outfitting a startup team. SAS Graph module leaves something to be desired, there are better softwares that focus on just visualization.

Pros: I am using SAS since last 8 years and I have used it in DWH using DI studio, SAS EG for reporting and Web Report Studio, SMC etc. I can say it is the best solution of all problems related to data and works perfect. You need to have expertise to work around this but it is not that tough to learn like Java etc.

Cons: Cost effective and you need to have technical expertise to work around this tool. some functionality are tough to learn and it may take years to be expert on this tool set.

As a user of many open source alternatives, this felt like a step backwards in many regards.

Pros: It is reliable and a can handle medium-large datasets without breaking a sweat. The flow of the SAS scripts is usually straightforward and readable for basic data manipulations. It allows SQL to be embedded which is what I take advantage of in 90% if the code that I write. The documentation online is throrough across the board, especially compared to the scattered nature of documentation for R or Python.

Cons: Rigid structure of the code and requires a lot of bad practices such as copying and pasting code blocks. This leads to thousands of lines being necessary when I could write only hundreds in another language. There may be more efficiencies I could take advantage of, but as an intermediate user I do not have time to learn the intricacies of this tool that is so different than everything else out there.

Also, the high price is causing my organization to shift away from this software, but the pricing structure makes it hard to lower our usage without scrapping it all together.

Pros: I've used SAS for almost 20 years. Recent developments have made the software much more user-friendly.

Cons: Learning and using SAS still require a heavy investment in time and human capital. Once the investment is made, it's worth the effort, but it's difficult sometimes to gain all the skills required for all of the potential tasks.

Overall: I get easy to present results and well-inderstood visualization graphs. The software is world-class.

SAS is my program of choice for most of my methodological research.

Pros: The functionality and ease of SAS is unparalleled for conducting a variety of advanced analyses, especially in GLM and multilevel (HLM) frameworks. I find when writing code for the same analyses with the free software R that for more complex analyses, the R code is always much longer. Additionally, SAS documentation is very thorough and it is always easy to find the answers you are looking for.

Cons: The graphics. SAS graphics are so basic and look so dated that I often use a different program to generate plots, even though they are easier to generate in SAS. The graphics really need to be updated. Also, the SAS capability for structural equation models (SEMs) is limited, and I usually use Mplus for those analyses.

I found the statistical analysis software a wonderful addition in this fast growing world.

Pros: It gives us more easily accessible tools to manage data, clean, subset, merge and combine to prepare for analysis and further to analyze datasets.

Cons: The cost of the software is high and increasing to the level that sometimes hard to renew every year, to cope up with other incremental expenses of life.

Overall: Save time on analysis and obtain results efficiently

Oh mine, SAS is software makes you satisfied all the time, what a miss, prior to my use of it.

Pros: the ability to create code within a short time and ability to do programming steps as well as calculation steps all in one, in a very easy way makes it a powerful tool.

Pros: Great support, features. Overall, whenever I needed to learn more beyond SAS Base, I was able to use the online documentation to help - and that was superb.

Cons: It's so dang expensive. If the price could go down just a little, it would make it more profitable in my opinion. Overall, I think a lower price and a bit easier to use language would be nice

Pros: If what you want to do is supported in a proc then it can be very easy to to get your work done. The documentation is *very* good.

Cons: If what you want isn't supported you *might* be able to find a macro online. But the macro language is very archaic feeling especially compared to R or Python. The graphics used to be terrible but they have gotten quite a bit better over the years. It's also incredibly expensive especially when you compare it to R (free and open source).

Overall: Well tested software that can do a lot of statistical analysis quite fast.

Pros: I can do sophisticated statistical analyses and clean data sets. For example, I use this survey to do regression analyses, survival analyses, and analysis of variance.

Cons: The graphics features are pretty basic. I usually export data and create graphics in other software. There is a steep learning curve and the online documentation is ok.

Pros: I love that SAS allows highly complex and conservative analyses so I know that my findings are valid and fair; I am always confident that my results can generalize to others because SAS allows more analyses.

Cons: It really requires a statistician or engineer to be able to use all of its tools, and I am neither, so I rely on SPSS.

Pros: I think SAS is a "must have" stat software for anyone who dapples in "advanced" analyses using GLM or HLM. I like that I'm able to run these "advanced" analyses without having to purchase additional add on software as it comes standard. I also really like how well it handles big data sets.

Cons: Over the years, SAS has continually made improvements to their graphics; however, I still find SAS graphics to be inferior compared to other stats programs. There also seems to be a pretty steep learning curve when it comes to coding in SAS (again compared to other coding-based programs).

Pros: The outputs are really nice in SAS - it runs several useful tests and plots just with the regress command. It is an easy way to see right away what is going on with the data.

Cons: The online support community is not helpful and very disorganized compared with other stats packages. Additionally, the software itself has a lot of bugs and I found myself needing to quit and restart the program just for the exact same code to work! Getting it to read data can be a pain as well. I no longer use for these reasons.

Overall: not many when there are other, free packages available.
