I have a positive experience with Epic tracking revenue cycle KPIs for a large healthcare organization.

Pros

It is easy to access real-time clinical and financial data in one system. It is easy to navigate and find patient information.

Cons

It hard to track historical data if we are trying to trend denials.

### "Epic MyChart with new AI assistant is helpful"

July 8, 2025

4.0

My overall experience has been very good. I am a detail oriented person and I enjoy the extent of coverage Epic provides. The learning curve can be steep and confusing to begin with for the same reason. The new addition of AI assistant is a very nice feature and helpful.

Pros

It is a widely adopted EHR system across many healthcare organizations within USA, so exchanging data becomes a little easier.

Cons

There is a lot going on in the Epic MyChart system. The learning curve can feel a bit steep and overwhelming in the beginning, until you get a hang of it in couple of months.

### "Virtually no room for human error with billing and coding. "

I self-taught with Epic. It's very user friendly.

Pros

Epic makes it impossible to miss anything during the charge capture phase. There are fewer denials from payers/insurance companies and greater accuracy in capturing charges.

Cons

I have nothing negative to say about epic care. I have had no need to use customer service so I'm unable to review that area.

### "Epic and Epic Rover Review"

September 5, 2023

My overall experience has been very good! I really enjoy using epic and have not really had any major problems with it! Any hiccups in the system can be handled by IT very quickly!

Pros

I really like the mobility of using the app. I would like to see the river system improved upon and expanded! Home health is a very large and important aspect of healthcare today, and a lot of clinicians are out in the field and need access to epic!

Cons

Sometimes I find that using epic on the computer in the office is daunting because of the many pages you have to search through!

### "EPIC EMR User friend medical records system"

May 20, 2022

5.0

In general epicure EMR patient health information medical record system is a great tool to integrate into large hospital systems. Especially for streamlined and easy to use integration of an medical record system. In addition because it has been used broadly by many large healthcare systems many people are trained on how to use epic and in addition they are able to translate their knowledge of other electronic medical record systems to the use of EpicCare system

Pros

In general some of the pros about the software is that it is very easy to use and it is very accessible from anywhere as long as you have an account. In addition allows you to access your patients medical records from a secure browser and system from remote locations. In addition it’s very easy to explore specific patient information as needed for data purposes.

Cons

The things that I like least about the software are that you do have to go through extensive training to be permitted to utilize the system. Although I do understand from the perspective of integration of patient health information it’s very important that users are knowledgeable on how to properly use the system.

### "Suboptimal at best"

June 14, 2023

1.0

see above.

Pros

Epic's main benefit is the large number of health systems that use it, which makes cross-communication possible. Epic does limit this by making it's product modular, which limits different institutions' ability to communicate. The only benefit to Epic is it's size and number of health systems that use it - so if you work at Hospital X, and move to Hospital Y, the chances that they also use Epic are higher than another software.

Cons

This is not a "patient care" software by design. It is a billing software first and foremost. Instead of starting the software from scratch in the 2000's once it was appearent that EMR's were the wave of the future, they simply piggy-backed what they could (most pop-ups and messages are done by what was originally meant to be error messages for bills). From a patient care stand-point, it is terrible at best. Epic's goal is to cater to administrators, who ultimately choose which EMR options to buy. The latest updates and changes have made for a "cleaner" look while hiding most buttons and options under tabs, making finding different options more difficult. There is a learning curve, but as anyone who has used iOS knows, the interface could be exponentially better. Epic is reminiscent of the 1990's Microsoft Office products that came with every computer and the masses were forced to use it, even though it was subpar by 1990's standards. Epic's philosophy (while under \[sensitive content hidden\]) is that Epic can do no wrong. While this company is under \[sensitive content hidden\] (the \[sensitive content hidden\] of EMR), it will not get better. We need a \[sensitive content hidden\] of EMR - until then, patients and providers alike must suffer.

Reason for choosing Epic

Admin (non-physicians) chose Epic.

### "Epic is the gold standard in EMR / EHR for hospitals and healthcare systems"

February 28, 2022

5.0

I've come across EpicCare EMR in so many specialty hospital care settings. It's nearly always been a pleasure to work with healthcare systems that directly use Epic.

Pros

It's all inclusive. Epic has a module for virtually every medical and healthcare related specialty, function, and revenue-cycle driven procedure. I like that some of the best academic medical centers and healthcare systems in the US use Epic.

Cons

Epic is very very expensive to implement, and it can be overwhelming for health systems to implement all at once.

Reason for choosing Epic

It's simply one of the gold standards in modern healthcare, offering possibly the best well known EMR/EHR in the world.

### "Ability for complete healthcare management via one software is a game changer."

December 30, 2022

5.0

Pros

As both a clinical, healthcare worker and healthcare manager, epic is very much the ideal EMR. Not only is it easy to use and train new staff on but having everything needed for different positions within the clinic and hospital is extremely valuable. being able to customize views for different positions, as well as access levels order writing has been very helpful

Cons

Because epic is so integrated and allows health services to function completely. It is a very expensive software, and may not be reasonable for a single provider or very small, healthcare operation.

### "The industry leader for reliable Electronic Medical Record"

June 30, 2021

5.0

Electronic Medical Record is the core of a health care system. Epic is the cream of the crop. It is \*not\* just another application. It can displace/replace many of your other applications, so we saw dozens of IT people move away from applications and systems that were replaced and into Epic roles. If your organization devotes the time and resources to it, you are nearly guaranteed success. At a price $$$, of course. From an end-user perspective, it takes a while for clinicians to get used to it. For example, in Epic there may be many more steps for a given procedure as compared to another EMR, but those steps are there to make sure that the application is bullet-proof, and users get used to it and appreciate it after a short time.

Pros

Epic, the company, makes sure that your implementation succeeds, stays stable and reliable, and performs fast. They (Epic) constantly monitor performance, DR/BC availability, and uptime and tell you \*exactly\* how you should configure your environment. Your are absolutely not on your own with Epic.

Cons

The flip side to the Epic company being so involved in your setup and operation is that it takes a lot of internal employees to make it happen Epic's prescribed way, and there is a lot of internal employee involvement in setup, testing, and ongoing maintenance. In other words, Epic requires a lot of TLC, but it is extremely stable and reliable.

### "The BEST EMR out there"

July 18, 2019

5.0

Having used another EMR (in addition to paper charting), this is by far the best product out there. Navigating different clinical unit censuses and consult lists is simple (and you can customize what information is listed within these lists). Within the medical record, tabs make it easy to navigate between lab results, demographic information, and chart notes. It is quick and easy to do a chart review and, in fact, Epic denotes which notes are new since your last review of a patient's chart, so you don't have to spend time looking for new information. Flowsheets, templates, and free-text options make it easy to format information in the way that is appropriate for you or your department's practice. Flowsheets can also be tied to a particular note (and can be easily imported) so that you can see both from one screen. SmartTexts can also be created for phrases or data you use frequently so that you can utilize a shortcut rather than typing those things repeatedly. Reports can easily be created to pull data from patient lists and Epic does a great job customizing layouts that are best for your particular organization.

Pros

Best layout, easy to navigate, quick documentation

Cons

Epic is consistently working on new functionalities and layouts, and sometimes the implementation of new things with the EMR becomes laborious to relearn when there is little added benefit.

### "The worst end "

May 3, 2022

1.0

It’s not designed to help pts. It’s designed to maximize billing .

Pros

Care everywhere helps with looking at info from other institutions

Cons

The implementation of this software at our hospital was a disaster. Orders were incorrect . Some medications were 10x the dose. There were no epic super users nearby. Because orders were built incorrectly, a pharmacist could change an order of mine without my cosignature and it was an erroneous change that could have resulted in a patient death. There is no quality control with the rollout . Many of the treatment plans were incorrect so you have to place a ticket for everything. The training was poor so most people don’t know how to use it so you have to change everything . The problem list takes forever to clean up. There are alerts that go off constantly, many of which are incorrect. You can be in the middle of an order and an alert pops up. There are hundreds of canceled orders that aren’t really canceled . Same with overdue orders. I mean there is no way for a human to distinguish the important stuff from the noise . The inbasket is horrible to use because you can’t include your nurse or scheduler on the same message as your pt and because it’s flooded with messages. Your phone constantly goes off in the middle of the night with critical alerts even though a nocturnist is in the hospital and can actually address these issues. But you are the one being woken up. Unfortunately because epic has a monopoly and because hospital administrators who don’t have to use this make all the decisions, they chose this software because it maximizes billing . It is demoralizing .

### "Epic review"

October 31, 2018

4.0

Overall- I think it helps me deliver safe care to my patients. This platform allows me to accurately chart and organize my day to best serve the population in my hospital.

Pros

It allows for safe medication administration- links the drug info. right there with the medication and allows for user friendly charting. Plenty of flowsheets to chose from. Information that isn't helpful can be completed or hidden. Integrates with our devices to pull in vital signs and information about the patient. Also allows for communication between the interdisciplinary team connecting each other through messaging and allowing for contact information. There are a few ways to get to the same spot and I find the navigators are helpful.

Cons

Some charting/flowsheets are a bit redundant. Also, sometimes when flowsheets or sections of charting are hidden- it can be hard to find specifically where to reactivate it. I think it takes a while to get the right custom EPIC for your institution in place so there are tons of upgrades and learning curves with new versions.
