May 11, 2018 4.0 Pros I think that everything can be found in one place. As a clinician, it is nice to have notes and information from every discipline that is caring for the patient, which provides more well-rounded care. The formatting and tabs are also easy to use. Cons It is constantly changing, making it hard to keep up. Although everything is customizable, it takes too many steps to do so, and makes it almost not worth it. Various user groups for various people (view only, view and edit, pre-production, etc.) Allows one hospital to integrate with another one of patient consents. Cons Navigating to what you need can be complex--there's too many ways to get somewhere and depending on how you navigated to a certain area, the data may be more or less complete. I have learned my side of the patient portal by trial and error like those in my Doctor's office. Pros This has become the new integrated software to combine my health care providers through a creative, detailed and fast network of patient portal communication. Two of my Health Care Providers and Companies have taken to Epic to ensure they never miss a beat with a patient such as myself. Well put together. Cons It launched with one of my Care Teams and was a little bit of a disaster getting off the ground smoothly ensuring there were no glitches. It has since worked itself out and my users are very comfortable with the system. Cons Customer service is horrible, ease of use is not there. This is by the far the worst EHR software out there. It's confusing, hard to use and just scattered everywhere. The access to see outside medical records, office visits, Ed visits and other testing is helpful in treating the patient as a whole. Pros The ease of maneuvering throughout the system. With little education the program was self explanatory. When working in the hospital the different aspects, like the banner help to quickly analyze the patient at hand. Cons Certain features throughout different organizations allow for a very general physical assessment. The option available is no change or normal. Example: a person’s normal HR could be a-fib but the option to chose regularly irregular would be considered the normal for the patient. What is needed for any change would be to document the actual sound. Also the charting by exception makes it difficult for other disciplines to know what is really going on. Review Source Kyle E. I'm glad this was the first program I've learned how to use in the healthcare industry. It makes communicating with patients, providers, and other office staff a breeze. Pros Learning to use Epic was not nearly as difficult as I thought it might be. I watched some coworkers use the program when I was first hired and it seemed a bit complicated - like there were too many options. However, after taking a couple classes, it became very easy to use and I very rarely have issues with the program. It's so versatile and that makes it a great program for healthcare. Cons Once in a while the program "glitches" a bit and I have to close it and re-open it, but this only happens maybe once every few months. Review Source BP Ben P. Pros I really liked how easy EpicCare is to work with. You can move around from patient to patient, labs, procedures, etc. with ease. January 28, 2021 5.0 Epic/MyChart organizes my family's medical documents all in one place. its great. Pros I can ask questions of my doctors. I can look up my data and dates. I can review old visits. I can make appointments. I can request refills or review prescriptions. It's the medical documents I SHOULD be hanging on to, but all organized for me. Cons It's really well done. If pressed, I would like the ability to message doctors with whom I've not visited in over two years. Perhaps that is a limitation set up by my provider but that's annoying that I can't message a doctor from several years ago. Like any software there is a learning curve, but once you are comfortable with it the features make day to day activities very simple. Pros Epic is very comprehensive and provides everyone at the hospital with all the necessary tools and features to perform their job. They are also always trying to find ways to upgrade the program and make processes more streamlined. Cons Every time the system gets upgraded, it seems that there are features that no longer work. After notifying IT it takes a few days for the features to get back up and running, but it is inconvenient to have to find work arounds for the time. Pros Epic has streamlined patient care within our health organization and it has made it so functional and accessible to get patient records from various facilities. I really enjoy using Epic at work. Cons There are multiple ways to do one function in the program, which is confusing at times. The capacity of information in the charts is wonderful. The best feature, I think, is the depth of the "dot phrases," they cut your note taking time into a fraction. The customer support is wonderful, quick, helpful and efficient. We are big proponents for Epic and the pros certainly outweigh the cons. Cons Epic is a great tool but it's not always easy find what you're looking for--you need to be in the right "context" and working through the chart in a specific way to find certain things. I do find that it has similarities to software we currently use that I am familiar with and that has been a huge benefit in learning EpicCare. I think with continued work in the test or practice environments it won’t be too terribly difficult to learn. Pros I really like that you can pretty much build any type of report you could want or need. I also like that you can customize reports to fit exactly what you are looking for. Cons So far what I like least about this software is that it’s a bit cumbersome to navigate through. You do have to have a bit of software knowledge in order to navigate through it. Lots of data to enter , After implementation can make magic for employees clinicians and patients . Cons The hard part was the implementation of this software ! after the entire sotware is awesome . I have used other charting systems in the line of working in a hospital and Epic is by far the best out there. Much of patient information is transferred across different facilities making it easy to look back on their history to provide better care. The features are great and is fairly easy to navigate. Cons It sometimes is difficult specific locations to chart information. There are plenty of tabs to chart under which is great but sometimes can be overwhelming. Review Source BM Bill M. It provides me a way to follow my patients accurately and with up to date information. Pros EPIC is great for documentation and order management. The ability to create smart phrases and texts create a more efficient clinical environment. Patient safety is enhanced with multiple prompts when placing orders. Cons It can be difficult to change an order and often I will need to cancel an order and replace it. It's difficult to view scanned media as it will close when you try to compare it to charted data.
