July 10, 2018 5.0 Pros EPIC is the system that the majority of hospitals and healthcare facilities use in our city. This is EXTREMELY beneficial because when we have patients that go to more than one site, the other site can access the patient's medical history and receive very important information. The electronic system allows for providers to communicate with each other without actually being on the phone or in person, and it allows for the providers to access records from multiple sites. This is very important for our organization because our providers serve patients at multiple locations. Cons This system has made communication easier for administration, providers, and other healthcare professionals so I have no complaints about EPIC. Review Source AD Amy D. There are so many reports that are available to help quality control, business management, and patient care. Pros There are so many features and shortcuts within Epic. I really like and utilize all of keyboard shortcuts to navigate between the clinical schedule, registration tab, and orders screens. Cons Wish that it would allow you to keep more than 4 open patients at a time. Don't need unlimited, or even think that would be a good idea for that matter, however I think adding a few would be a great addition. Review Source SB Sarah B. Easy to click various aspects used during documentation. Billing easy and customizable. Like the empty fields available for free text as well as types of check boxes. Copy/paste for evaluations/re-evaluations helpful to see progress. Easy to navigate between multiple parts of patient records to see whole picture. Cons Template set. Unable to modify much for personal preference. Template thorough which means long making it more time consuming to navigate and document with. Pros Pros are I use this on a daily at work and there were administrators on site who taught us how to use this when we were doing our on boarding. Cons There isn’t much as far as videos for users to watch to see and use every aspects of the epic software online. Wish there was a tutorial for it on YouTube. Review Source JW James W. Though there are some cumbersome elements to the software, it is by far the most powerful and robust system out there. Pros Epic has a plethora of reports and dashboards that are invaluable for tracking quality and key performance metrics. Cons For a number of functions, Epic has multiple ways for users to complete a particular task. This can be confusing from a training and operations perspective (e.g. "I was told to do it differently," "My provider prefers it a different way"). Review Source Andrew C. It has also been beneficial that our administration can designate which portions of a patient's chart are required charting for each shift, to ensure nothing gets overlooked. Cons The user interface needs a lot of work and is not intuitive. people have to spend years working with it to get a functional product. A few crashes here and there but nothing that was not acknowledged or resolved. Great Software. Pros I love all of the features that can be tailored to your specific workflow and the option to personalize your work space. Cons I don't like how some of the things I need are not easily accessible- flow sheets for patients seem a little hard to navigate through and will not automatically display the previous days ( I am in a flow-sheet to see a flow, not what I have learned today). Offers a lot of different ways to view the patient's medical chart which provides a lot of great information to the provider. I wish that my organization would also use it for medical charting but we use another product for that. Pros Epic offers a simple, intuitive, and visually appealing user interface. It organizes an abundance of information in an accessible manner. Cons It can be unclear at times what features are available to me, as opposed to what are restricted/only available to administrative staff (e.g., who can schedule on my patient schedule). Pros The ease of windows, cutting and pasting notes, and printing to a network printer. Cons When using multiple peices of software, the company A) Requires a bunch of price increases to make this possible, B) is VERY glitchy, has lots of stops/starts, buggs, and too many "Security" requirements that take too much of a users time. It is very easy to monitor our patients progress through the hospital and report back to our physicians. Pros The EHR system Epic is not only one of the most diverse, but also among the most comprehensive EMR systems I've worked with to date. As an analyst, I help to build this system to custom fit for my health network, which is very easy, and made easier by the support we get from the Epic system itself! Cons Price point is always a touchy subject with Epic. You really need to be able to afford it while getting the accommodations to meets your systems' requirements. Pros I really liked that it was easy to navigate and easy to find what I need for my patients. I like that you have to enter in certain information in order to move forward. The hard stops will make you more sufficient Cons I'll have to say that there's nothing that I didn't really like about it. But if I had to provide a con it'll be that it sometimes hard to see radiology images. Pros EPIC made it possible for us to join other large healthcare systems and access records from other clinics, boosting the clinic's efficiency allowing us to better serve patients. The scheduling and charting features were superior to other healthcare software. Cons It took a full day to train to use it properly but the training is incredibly helpful. Review Source SM Sandra M. My team has an average of 30+ years of experience and no body feels this upgrade was a good idea. This was a complete overhaul and looks like someone who does scrapbooking designed this as opposed to someone who uses it daily. Pros Prior to 2021 it was effective. Latest upgrade is ridiculous and a waste of time. Cons Workflow has been ground to a halt as too many filters and unable to see the a list of claims cleanly in order to assess issues. The ability to set up your own macros makes recurring notes/admission/orders easy. Also nice to be able to customize your own home page with only items you find necessary. It can be used remotely as well which makes finishing up work in the office easy. Cons Fairly big learning curve. Hopefully the customer support will help with everything regarding customizing your homepage. Even after attending training class, it took extra time the first few times rounding with this EMR. As a nurse who started her career with paper charting, EPIC has made things much easier! Pros The ability to compile information about a patient from any other facility that uses EPIC. Organization of pt information is organized and easy to access Cons I would like a better way to organize tasks for what needs to be completed for our patients. The training was helpful, but the hands on use was much more beneficial. Most of the support people that came to support during go live were great. Pros The Care everywhere section is great. .Last phrases and ability to create ordersets and note templates are nice. Cons the customizable views are tricky in that you don't really know that its an option to create that customizable view because not all features are laid out. The encounters are difficult to navigate at times with many clicks of the mouse needed to open up an encounter for a patient I'm not currently working with inpatient. Review Source ZL Zach L. Cons Entry for medical history could be better and easier to change and update. Personal notepad function should be larger and customizable in size! This would allow much more functionality. The "Care everywhere" feature is amazing. Instant access to outside facility notes and reports is a game changer for quality of care.
