Pros Vimeo Pro is, in my experience, the lowest compression video streaming service for professional use (other than just sending files directly to clients). Vimeo is a great place to hold reels, demos, and featurettes to showcase your work, as it definitely carries a quality edge over the competition. Videos look less compressed, and resolution/codec support is quite robust. Vimeo Pro is also a really neat way to meet other artists and view their work. Because Vimeo is tailored to creative uses, sifting through content is much easier than on YouTube, where there are buckets of non-artistic videos being published every second. Cons Vimeo is expensive for the service provided. Yes, Vimeo provides low compression video streaming, which matters when trying to make your best impression with clients or partners, but the price seems high when the chief competitors are free. Also, Vimeo's mobile website and apps are consistently buggy. Performance is slow, the site often crashes (tested on various mobile devices), and sometimes videos scale incorrectly when in fullscreen. Lastly, Vimeo has not innovated as much as competitors. Though the site is generally more attractive, and the UI is easy to use, things have not changed much in the time since I began using it. " April 1, 2024 1.0 Cons Once you have subscribed for a basic membership, it is literally impossible to unsubscribe. There is no method to cancel online, despite directions on their website which tell you where to go. There is no customer support phone number. There is no live chat option. The phone number \[sensitive content hidden\] popped up for the bank when cutting off their charge on my credit card. Dialing that, I was still unable to connect with anyone as I do not have a "pin" number, so was unable to advance past the automated introduction. Don't waste your time with Vimeo. We've never had a single issue, and I couldn't imagine ever switching our hosting to anywhere else. Pros I love Vimeo's clean modern look, it's simple yet powerful interface, and streaming quality. The privacy features and embedding controls are top-notch and make it easy to upload videos for a variety of uses for our clients. Cons The 5gb limit per week on the plus plan seems a little arbitrary and restrictive. Most of the time, that's plenty for our uses, but every once in a while it's an issue. A monthly cap would be much more friendly, especially for users who upload more sporadically. " December 8, 2022 4.0 Easy to use, doesn't take any time to figure out, and a great step by step intro on how to use the site! Pros I liked how easy it was to use the site. From the moment I created my account to uploading my first video, there was always a step by step help box telling me how to use the site. I also reached out to the support team and they were super helpful and quick with answering my questions. Uploading my video was fast and easy, much faster than YouTube. And the quality of my video was not effected when I uploaded it to the site, either. Cons The thing I liked least about this software was the free version and the tools you don't get with the free version. As with everything these days, you're going to have to pay for a subscription to get anything out of the site. Pros Vimeo is easy to use and convenient for businesses that need somewhere to house video assets without looking to generate traffic. Cons The only downside I can think of with Vimeo is that sharing links externally can be tricky. Whenever a video is finished uploading, the share button will not work when sending out in a newsletter, Teams, etc. the video id needs to be added to the end of a separate url. Not a big deal, just not as convenient as the rest of the platform. YouTube does not have this option. This is important for clients who want to keep content private until the video(s) are ready to publish to the public for consumption. Cons One of the drawbacks for Vimeo is playback. Sometimes it is not as smooth as YouTube. Often times Vimeo will experience buffering issues, which can be frustrating for viewers. Most platforms still require a 3rd party video host and Vimeo has been flawless to privately host course videos. Cons I wish the price was a bit lower, especially now that more course platforms host video. Still, I use Vimeo regularly and have zero complaints about how it serves our needs. Pros Now, you can share videos with multiple reviewers who can click and comment as the video plays. All the comments show up in chronological order on the right side.
