May 18, 2020 4.0 Open Dental has been great, and hoping to expand with the software as we open more offices. The features are in depth and offer us the abilty to use technology to stay current with innovations. Playing to use the 3D features and online appointments. Pros Open Dental has so many features, and the ability to add features with modules was a key reason we decided to go with them in a new clinic. The ability to network our entire system and not getting hit with expensies for needing multipe license was a strong reason for us to use Open Dental. Cons Not cloud based. Hoping that they move to a cloud based system in the near future. The security features of cloud based would really help us to stay HIPPA compliant without having to spend so much time securing data, backups, etc. Review Source NG Nate G. I have used others, and Open Dental is by far the best out there. It is the cheapest, easiest, and most simple out there. There are many features that makes it amazing. SWITCH today. Pros The most easy answer all day. GET OPEN DENTAL. It is the best and easiest dental software that you will ever use! Seriously, listen to me. GET OPEN DENTAL. I have used Dentrix, Eaglesoft, and others and Open Dental is by far the easiest to use. The support is AMAZING. you never hear about this with any company, but this company is great at answering questions. Cons There is not ONE thing that I do not like about Open Dental. I would NEVER recommend Open Dental to any dental office. Cons Open Dental Cloud is absolutely horrible! We have had it for 3 years, and it glitches and freezes all the time! We literally have to close and re open Open Dental at least 20x a day! Our entire team at that! We have been trying to get it fixed for over 2 years with nothing but excuses!! I would NOT recommend! May 12, 2022 5.0 Pros One of the things we love most about Open Dental is how customizable it is. In so many areas of the software, we can make it look and feel exactly how we want. Their customer service is amazing. We can call or chat with them any time and always get a timely response. Cons We have used Open Dental for about 5 years and have never had any huge problems. If/when there are issues, they do a great job addressing them in the next update. Pros Open Dental has so many great features! There customer service department is top notch and if you need anything they make sure there is a report or they fix any problems. Much less reason to even call support. This program is incredibly well made, and just works. It's super easy to install, and it integrates with pretty much all of the imaging software that's out there. Make no mistake - you can not go wrong with Open Dental. Pros Being that this is an open source program for dental practice management, there are a wide variety of plug-ins and customization that are out there. Also, the support is amazing. Many of our clients use Open Dental, and we support it in our business. When you call for support, they'll remember your name, and there's barely any hold-time when comparing to Schein or Patterson, which can have 30+ minutes of hold time at times. Open Dental has a lot of reports that you can run as well, and it's easier in comparison to some of the competitors. This is by far our favorite dental practice management software, and we use and support all of them. The cost is fair as well. This software has incredible value. Cons There's not much I don't like about this software, since it's so easy to install and to use. I would say the biggest con, is that when people are changing software to open dental, there's a bit of a steep learning curve. However, that's true of all dental practice management software. Pros Tooth chart is efficient and informative, I like how you can clearly see that you are watching the "distal of #3" just by looking at the tooth chart. It is easy to add frequently used buttons. Easy to make auto notes and use the auto notes. The auto notes allow you to stop at any time and just go type in the note and the can pick back up on auto prompts whenever you want. It is easy to see insurance coverage and how much a patient owes so you know if they even need to stop at the front desk to check out. The schedule is easy to use and has color blocks that are not only efficient but just appealing. Perio charting is simple and so easy to toggle back and forth to show patient a change between this perio charting we took today vs another day they came in. I love that there was a place under the tooth chart to place personal notes that can be seen. Also a way to easily place and see preferred hygienist or dentist that is easily seen on schedule. HHx is easy to see on same page as chart. Cons Nothing, I would be a cult leader for Open Dental. I have been a hygienist for 10 years and have never been so happy with a software, it did everything I wanted any more. I love efficiency and this ticked all of the boxes. Pros The fact that it is easy to navigate, but if you were to have issues, the support is great. Granted that is a monthly fee for unlimited access, but it is totally worth it. There are times I can go months without calling for help, but hit one snag and I'm on the phone with them several times a day or days in a row. Cons It's not a con, but just me and my lack of knowledge. Some of the videos don't seem to have audio and I've mentioned that to them. I try to watch the help video first...sometimes. Pros The open dental practice manageent software inetegrates well with other software that the office is using such as carecredit. The staff can now easily offer financing options to our patients. The software is always adapting to what dentists need in ways that actually benefit them and the program isn’t bloated with a bunch of “features” that aren’t useful. Cons I hate to complain because there’s not too much to complain about... but we don’t love that you can’t edit the hours on the schedule to only start at 6 or 7 AM and end at 6 PM. Again... petty.
