It's a very stable system that is easy to use and user-friendly. Cons The things I like the least are the ability to create a news item and have it populate into several courses at once, and the ability to tie a discussion posting to a grade. Pros I like how it is designed. We where using google class before and I find bright space a cleaner easier to use platform Cons I have used it on laptop and an iPad. It is not as user friendly on the iPad. This has provided me with a much better understanding of how I'm doing in the class overall. I really like that there are multiple means to complete tasks (i.e. upload course content, grade assignments/quizzes, contact students, change course structure). To add, the availability of supports and video is phenomenal. I was part of the Brightspace implementation team for our campus. The amount of time and effort put into making sure the product met the needs of the faculty and unique student body, and training of the first use faculty was quite impressive. It is also helpful to have easy access to student progress and monitor learning out comes. Cons It is a bit difficult setting up the gradebook. It is not impossible, but not easy. Also, since it is required that one create a new rubric, it is time consuming. It would be much easier if one could upload a rubric from another LMS (as is done with quiz content). April 10, 2018 3.0 Pros A learning module is so important to my classes, and Brightspace does allow for easy announcements to the entire class, setting up homework assignments, reminders, calendars, etc. Cons From a professor's POV, setting up assignments is so difficult! It was easy to figure out and accomplish all needed tasks. Pros I like that the software allows for customization within the teaching module pages. This way there can be a combination of text and videos. The quiz feature is also very useful. I like that it can be set so that the user cannot see the answers and know what they got wrong. Cons As a user, I did not like that the pages took so long to load (could have also been my internet connection). This made it difficult to switch back and forth while taking a quiz. Also sometimes there is a delay in updating when a task has been completed so I had to refresh the page a few times. Review Source GL Geralyne L. Cons Using embedded rubrics is nightmare. No option to add due dates on assignments. Cons The update to SP15 brought numerous bugs that are causing frustration for our instructors as well as causing them extra time to "fix" their content so that their courses work like they did previous to SP15. Navigating around the website was easy and keeping track of assignment was too hard. This program is flexible and easy to manage. Cons The setting up can be tricky and requires some trial and error until we get the right combination. Easy to pick up from both the student and administrator/faculty side, Brightspace is also incredibly full featured. I have found the company to be very responsive in implementing suggestions, as well. Brightspace hit a bit of a rough patch with release 10, but 10.3 is very stable and robust. I like the updated look of Brightspace vs D2L. I like how easy it is to import & export content. I liked that everything was in one place for the students when I taught. Now I use Brightspace for an orientation to the simulation center. It is a great resource for faculty and students alike to be able to review material. Cons The grade book can be a little awkward to set up to get exactly how I want it. Also would like the ability to easly add bonus questions to tests, to give the student the ability to earn over 100% on a test. It is easy to understand and clearly shows how Brightspace serves as a superior platform. The product seems to fully support The Universal Design for Learning theory. Brightspace seems to be reaching all students by putting them at the center of the learning experience. I love the animations in the video. Implementation takes longer that other LMS. Annual licensing fees are very high. Many changes to Customer assigned resources. Currently, API calls to production Database is unavailable.
