The support team completely makes up for it. Specifically, \[sensitive content hidden\] was incredible during our training and onboarding. She helped us navigate the initial hurdles and ensured we knew exactly how to get the most out of the system.

Pros

I’ve been very impressed with the value provides relative to the cost. The tiered pricing model is a huge plus—it allows us to pay exactly for what we need without getting locked into expensive features we won't use.

Cons

The only significant downside I encountered was the data migration process. Getting our existing data into the system from our previous platform was a challenge. If you are starting from scratch, the setup is seamless, but be prepared for some friction if you are moving over a large database.

Pros

I liked working with \[sensitive content hidden\] because she was able to diagnose my problem quickly and present fast and efficient solutions.

Cons

There was nothing that I didn't like, but what I struggled a bit with was that our use of the site might need to have some large changes in order to make quick fixes. The way we have our programs and events set up allow for some capabilities but act as an obstacle for others.

We have loved interacting with \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] and developing our program within your system. We appreciate his flexibility and always being available by video to walk through an issue. We do think with a few changes to the overall program this would be a great fit for us. We have had to bend it on the back end which creates more work for our team currently. We would love to see more neon integration as well.

Pros

We like the ability to have all our volunteer data in one software and that it communicates with our donor database. The customized fields and different applications allow us to create separate events for certain types of people we have in our organization. The customer service and their ability to help us problem solve for the software to fit our organization better is top notch.

Cons

Pulling reports and getting the data we are looking for has been a challenge. More features for report pulling would be optimal. Having the ability to sign a volunteer up for a repeating shift without the volunteer or admin having to do it manually. If they click on a shift that is multiple weeks in a row, they would be immediately signed up for all those shifts.

Adding photos and documents should be just as easy as on Word. I would like a simple table of contents for each problem people encounter, click on it, receive solution (especially for those who have trouble remembering - the elderly volunteer coordinators)!

She has been professional, sincere, patient, and careful to understand my needs thoroughly while guiding me through the volunteer database and process. The system was much easier to learn than I had anticipated which, along with \[sensitive content hidden\]'s guidance and suggestions, eased my angst. When I have had a question, she has sent me a brief video and instructions, detailing the answer. My event involves over 400 volunteers, hundreds of jobs and shifts, and a year's worth of planning; consequently, there have been issues requiring \[sensitive content hidden\] and her team to create new code to accommodate my needs. This type of customized care has proven invaluable. There has not been a single hiccup in the volunteer sign-up process, reducing the number of questions I have received from volunteers. I cannot recommend VolunteerLocal highly enough, and based on this experience, I will recommend VolunteerLocal to any company that utilizes a volunteer platform.

Pros

The user-friendliness of the database and the excellent customer service I have been afforded have made my first experience using a volunteer database a pleasure.

Cons

I do not have any cons to share. If I have needed extra information or fields for my volunteers to provide more information, \[sensitive content hidden\] has enthusiastically reassured me they would be added. I have no complaints.

Cons

Some of the backend user interface has been clunky, but for the most part I'm extremely satisfied for the value.

### "I Could Not Do What I Do Without Volunteer Local"

It's been good. I wonder if the learning time for users (especially users of a certain age) could be improved by reducing the choices to four buttons per page. I'm told that's how you make a system more intuitive. I know it also makes each operation longer. May not be worth it.

Pros

The two biggest advantages this has over systems I've used in the past are support and event duplication. From the very start, the team at VL have helped me learn the system, make the most of its functionality and troubleshoot when something isn't right. They have a rare combination of both patience with the time I need to learn or fix issues, and a sense of urgency when I need their help fixing something quickly. With event duplication, I save endless hours of re-creating jobs and shifts for annual events. I've worked with systems that would clone the general event information, but Volunteer Local is set up to re-create jobs and shift details. For a 500-shift event, that saves an enormous amount of work.

Cons

The next areas I'd love Volunteer local to develop would be a volunteer survey function within the system, the ability to attach training documents right to pre-shift emails, and a more elegant design of the end-user pages. However, if prettier pages increased the monthly cost of VL, I'd probably pass. I imagine many volunteer managers in small non-profit organizations would do the same.

Very good overall. I've been using the system going on 3 years now and like the fact that the user interface is good both on phone and PC.

Pros

Access to prior and current event data. User friendly system including mobile. Very responsive support as well and super friendly!

Cons

Some times user permissions can be confusing. Would be great to have a seamless way to share passwords with group captains in a efficient manner.

This is an amazing platform to keep our volunteers engaged and organized! It is very user friendly. The automatic reminders have saved me so much time. The tech support have been patient with me while learning the program.

The inability to send texts and emails to individuals. I would like to have more crossover communication between events.

I love having all of my volunteers' information for all of the events in one place. Also love that when I need help the VL staff is quick to respond and they are always kind (they don't treat me like I'm an idiot! lol!)

Sometimes I find the email a bit awkward, but love that it is an option!!!

I have said many times (and will continue to say!) that the people at are amazing! Changes and developments take time because coding is detailed work, but I know the team hears and cares about the roadblocks I have, and they take pride in removing them. They also strive to think of new features that will improve the client experience. As the administrator, I see myself as the person who bridges the gap between volunteers who believe in our mission and the opportunities for them to serve, trying to minimize that gap along the way. But I am also the person who bridges the gap between our staff and all of the information held in the database; they need to be able to seamlessly interact with the information whether I am in the office or not, and they need to be able to see the value each volunteer brings. I have confidence that VolunteerLocal can help me be that bridge.

Pros

Initially, the selling point for was the fact that volunteers can manage so much by themselves. Being able to submit an application online, to sign up for/cancel shifts by themselves, and see all of our available opportunities on one landing page was a big factor. But as we use it longer and offer more types of opportunities, I have come to appreciate the commitment to help us solve problems and improve the interface for all parties--all because the client's happiness is such a high goal for each VolunteerLocal staff person. Whether I need help understanding how to set up an event for our particular needs, making updates to the data we're collecting, or dreaming of how the database can better serve us, I know the staff is in my corner.

Cons

Because we use our data differently than many, I have struggled the most in interacting with older data. Once events are archived, I cannot see that information in volunteer profiles (though I can see much of what I need to know from the search screen). If it wouldn't make the dashboard so cluttered, I would be tempted to leave events active permanently. Additionally, since many of our volunteers come to us in order to fulfill community service hours, it would be great for them to be able to see what they've done somehow.

I feel more secure knowing the volunteer applications are managed in a safer way. Setting up our online application and managing/storing the volunteer information has been very simple. The customer support is great. Love it!

Pros

Customer service has been great, with quick responses and very good support. They helped to customize our branding to perfection and even edited the email we received to remove sensitive fields to better secure our volunteer's private information. They are exactly what we needed to help us manage our volunteer applications and data.

Cons

Just me learning how to sort volunteers to pull the applications that check a specific box on interests. I suspect I could do that if I knew how. I just haven't taken time to dig deep enough to figure out how to do that. Not really a Volunteer Local issue... but maybe if there was a simple menu for sorting info (might be, but I haven't found it yet).

Could not possibly run the event without . From scheduling the jobs and shifts to communiating with the captains and volunteers.

Pros

The ability to track volunteers. The ability to communicate to volunteers.

Cons

Reports. Would like to be able to customize reports. (i.e., select just volunteers that are going to stay overnight at the church we are offering). Report writing could be more user friendly instead of downloading all volunteers and sorting by category.

Pros

It meets all of my goals with one application. Other platforms either completely omitted some of these features or had work-arounds. Volunteer Local is the whole package. Everything works great, the UI design isn't as pretty as I might like

The features are great! It is a good tool for volunteer management. I'm not sure about the price to be honest, but it definitely does the job well. And if there are things that you don't like about the software because it's confusing to navigate, customised customer service definitely makes up for it. You're definitely paying for a very efficient customer service experience.

Pros

I like the customisable options and the ability to reach out to mass participants. I especially liked the customer service provided. There are YouTube tutorials and a very attentive customer service team that can answer your specific questions. I had a query about volunteers signing up for jobs and shifts, and customer service agent \[sensitive content hidden\] really gave me top notch service, even providing me a customised and in-depth video tutorial.

Cons

It can be a little confusing. If you missed a small step, it might affect your event or programme overall. Or it makes it very clear how we can set-up the page as admin, but there is little help if you're a registered volunteer and if you need help navigating the page. As admin, it is necessary for us to understand the volunteers' procedures and methods to achieve certain things, and there might be an inconvenience if we can't answer them as well.

It's been a work in progress for me but, the product have really elevated our volunteer recruitment and communications.

Pros

I like the flexibility in customizing Fields to accommodate my needs. The ability to set up templates to communicate is great. The support staff is always responsive with clear and concise information/directions. They also act on suggestions to make the productive better.

Cons

Occasionally I couldn't find the information needed and had to reach out to support staff for help. improvements have been made over the last year or so to make it more user friendly.

Our support manager is \[sensitive content hidden\] who has been wonderful to work with, and is very patient. He does not make me feel inferior as I have been learning how to use the program effectively. He is a great teacher, now I need to practice and get used to entering things correctly.

Pros

It its relatively easy for me to add an event.

Cons

Because I am not very tech savvy, the terms do not click in my brain automatically.

I was not involved in this part of the process at all. In fact, the people on our team who showed me what to do were involved and are very computer literate, so it was very easy for them. More difficult for me because I am a visual and "do it" learner, but \[sensitive content hidden\] has been amazing to help me catch up and reverse some of my mistakes.

The customer service I have received from their team has been the best I have ever experienced from a volunteer management site. Everyone I have spoken to has been kind and made every interaction great. Not only are they kind and personable, but they respond in a timely manner.

Pros

We have been on the lookout for a volunteer management software or site that allows to closely manage time and has an easy volunteer check-in AND check-out feature and this site has met our needs and the process has been very easy for admins and volunteers to use.

Cons

I have not found a dislike yet for how we use the site.
