It serves me well. My tax return is complicated with multiple schedules and worksheets. H&R Block software saved me a lot from having my return prepared by a tax professional. Pros H&R Block gets update regularly to keep up with regulation changes. The software has multiple modes: from beginner level where you can simply answer questions and the program provided a lot of guidance/helps or expert level where you have more freedom to pick and choose the appropriate schedules to fit your own needs. I contacted the support service and they tell me to pay for the expert help... this was not an taxes issue, it was an error of the application but the agent wouldn't understand. I ended up requesting a refund for the premium service I paid, the agent told me that I had to wait 30 days, wich is nonsense. Until this day I haven't been contacted for my refund, I am reporting the charge with my bank though. Because this rather simple to solve issue, I will not be filling my taxes again with H&R block. Pros In the past was good, I just to file taxes with this platform. Now they have added plenty of premium layers and they try to make you pay for them Cons Terrible support service. They put out a quality product that easy and simple to use. You cant get much easier to use than them. They price if fairly and have never steered me wrong Pros Its simple and easy to use. Vice President Construction Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Premium & Business Windows Desktop version" February 17, 2026 4.0 I've use a version of the tax software for over 10 years. usually the Premium & Business version. There are usually issues every year, however I have also tried a competitor's software which was a lot worse. Don't expect much help from H&R Block. My experience has been that they know very little about the desktop version of the Premium & Business and have not been much help with software issues and bugs. I've found better help from ChatGPT. The cost is minimal and it gets the job done, but it could definitely be better. My guess is that the online version is less buggy, but I can't tolerate the interface. There is completely different application for the 1040 form taxes. It is also challenging and buggy at times. Pros The software helps make sure that no new tax laws are missed. Includes electronic filing for some returns. I like the desktop version because the interface seems written for an adult... the online version less so. The software picks up the previous year's return and populates the current return. Cons The desktop version doesn't seem to get much attention, I suspect they are phasing it out. Getting the software installed is challenging. I've run into permission issues and other complicated problems. Support is typically not helpful. In the review phase there are always plenty of errors flagged and many can't be corrected and some are in conflict with other parts of the software... that is if you can even figure out what has been flagged and why it is incorrect. Owner operator Health, Wellness and Fitness Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Run and find someone else " June 26, 2025 1.0 I thought that it would be OK as the woman I was dealing with seem genuinely able to help. A basic personal tax filing cost about $190 the first year. Not the best but not the worst. This year it cost me $850. She filed my taxes for a small business and was also doing some bookkeeping for me. I have minimal charges and I did most of the work myself before I handed her the papers so there was maybe three to four hours of work at best. It cost me $450 to file and that doesn’t include what I owe the government. Then it cost me another $350 for seven hours of work that she billed me for. At this point, she cannot give me to this day a printout of the details on how many hours she spent doing my bookkeeping to add my receipts. There’s no trace, there’s no tracking. Then I asked for a breakdown of the tax filing and why it cost $450. Keep this handy: they charge you for the basic starting point of $216. This is what is shown on their website but it won’t show you any more. Then, with the total that she added in that seven hours of bookkeeping I was charged for, she added that total to a single line on the tax form. She just transferred the number from her total on one piece of paper and write it on the tax form and one line – I was charged an extra $160 for that. Then they nickel and dime you to death at $30 a pop. So I got an extra $90 because I used my vehicle expenses, home office expenses, and utilities to add into yet three more tax form lines. It’s a double dip and it’s crooked. Pros The woman who did my taxes and bookkeeping. She was sweet and welcoming. We had some fantastic conversations. Cons The ridiculous prices. The double dipping. I have been using H&R Block for my returns since 2017. I am not an accountant nor a tax specialist but foolish enough to do my own returns. Pros Reasonably easy to use for a simple tax return. Cons Gets tripped up in some complicated scenarios. It got the job done quickly and relatively painlessly but for our business we decided to go with TurboTax since it integrates with Quickbooks easily. I would still recommend HR Block because their customer service team is easy to deal with. Pros I liked how easy filing our taxes were and I felt confident when I was done that all the information was correct and accurate.
