April 14, 2026 4.0 Overall I have a good impression from Fishbowl, pricing is affordable for small teams, but its got the feature set for big customers. I would use it for again if I needed to make the choice. Pros They have a self-hosted version, its very high quality, low maintenance to run the server. The software has a huge set of features for manufacturing and inventory control. Sales orders and purchase orders are also all under the same roof. Sales orders support invoicing and reporting. Manufacturing has BOM's, Work Orders, Manufacture Orders, and has options for custom MO's as well as reverse MO's. Software has a great layout, its not old and dated, but neither is it a flashy smooth interface that changes with every new update. Styling is consistent. Customer support is easy to reach, they recently on-boarded a number of new employees, so no issues. Accounting export is automatically synced from Fishbowl to Quickbooks. It supports desktop and cloud versions of quickbooks. Seamless integration. Cons New features are slow in coming. They could use an upgraded custom reporting tool, current stock report set is great, but ability to customize is somewhat lacking. The tech help is very helpful when needed, and the software seems to function well. Pros Fishbowl works really well as it is. But there are some functionalities it is lacking. We worked with developers to create a customer report for us that they just were not able to do (create a production list). I like the intuitiveness of use, and I like the way most of the process flows are set up. Cons The RMA process is very cumbersome and repetetive. There are so many steps to the process, and doing one simple return takes much longer than it should. Having an automotive based business, there are many combinations of parts we can put together, so kits has been very valuable to our business. The integrations with the ecommerce platforms and shipping solutions have made our order management efficient and effortless. Fishbowl has been an integral part of our company's success. Pros We have been using Fishbowl for 8 years. It does everything we need for inventory control, point of sale and order management. The integration with eBay, Big Commerce and ShipStation are paramount to our business running smoothly. Anytime we have needed customer support, they have been responsive and resolutions have been quick. We mainly use kits on our selling platforms and Fishbowl's capabilities in this area are versatile. Cons Any time there is an upgrade, we are reluctant to install it because of issues we have had in the past upgrading the first day or two after it is released. While we have had some growing pains getting used to the software and learning its little quirks. The biggest issue we have had is that we did not initially conform all of our part numbers and descriptions which made it difficult to search for certain parts. I have mostly fixed this issue at this point, but it would be nice if the search criteria wasn't so specific. Pros Easy to learn graphical interface. Very effective at inventory management for a small warehouse. Client runs on multiple operating systems for ease of use with a variety of mobile devices. Cons Price is pretty high even compared to competition. I do not like the idea of paying for industry standard reports that seem to be missing from the client. Issues with "scanning" on IOS phones. It would also be nice to see reports on screen rather than as a PDF report or CVS output. Pros It offers alot of flexibility to accommodate our business model of high-mix low volume sales, as well as custom builds. The modules are intuitive and there is clear traceability. Cons I would like more granularity and data analytics capabilities, for example, to drill down to individual raw material costs per sales order over time. The reorder reports can also be improved by providing shortages to a certain data range, rather than all or none approach. Fishbowl is just wonderful and everybody who works at Fishbowl has always been polite, patient, and knowledgable with my companies issues. Pros Fishbowl has great inventory management and customer support. They are always on point and knowledgable about their product when I call in with an issue. I call in alot because Fishbowl is a full featured inventory management system and am still learning every single function. It is such a well designed inventory management system and they are always improving it with updates. the updating process is seamless and they are always their to help you along the way. Cons Not being able to have all invoices automatically integrated without manually receiving the payments in quickbooks. Our implementation team has been nothing but helpful and has been able to assist us through the struggles of going live. Trainings were very easy to schedule and feedback throughout the trainings has been a large piece to our continued success in Fishbowl. Pros We enjoyed the customization that Fishbowl offers. Being a boat manufacturer puts our implementation in the more niche category due to the individualistic nature of building boats, and Fishbowl was able to guide us through building the system around out own best practices. It is amazing how much we are able to accomplish in just the warehousing license and the workarounds we created to manufacturing in a warehouse limited database. The other pieces of Fishbowl that we have enjoyed thus far include the clarity of process steps due to green arrow, red truck, blue checkmark. The ability to run a multitude of reports. The ease of invoicing directly from a sales order. And especially the functionality of kitting. Furthermore, we look forward to leveraging tools such as auto PO's and order tracking to increase our inventory efficiency. Cons Fishbowl has a large amount of reports that are very helpful, but can be rigid in customization. For example, the inventory valuation summary does not let the report filter for multiple location groups at once, and instead can only be sorted by one location or location group at a time. Other reports also have a restricting feel to them being that there aren't many options to add fields to the report from within the modify report wizard. One of the biggest reports we would like to be able to run out of Fishbowl is a work in progress report, but being that we aren't in the manufacturing license, we cannot. We would like to be able to run this report based off location type, as we have do have manufacturing type locations set up in Fishbowl for inventory in process. Customizations and added filter fields in the inventory valuation summary would be very helpful. Pros We use it mainly as a WMS, and there's an awful lot of functionality within this product to take advantage of. Calling out the "wiki" of videos and other materials for bot introduction to Fishbowl as well as to become aware of many aspects that help order management. Cons Reports and/or ability to write custom-reporting to meet our specific business needs. I do feel this is a bit more "back-burner" and may be in development. Implementation staff was very good to work with. However, we kept going back to make changes. I think it would be more helpful at the beginning to walk through orders and see how everything flows before trying to set up the system. We had to re-navigate several times. We are new to this program as we just went live. So don't have enough experice to rate yet. Pros Many different options for items. We like how well the scanners work with the program, and how the users can be customized. Cons Navigating was difficult at the beginning. We wish we could just send some entries with QuickBooks, instead of all or nothing. We didn't like how the billing came right away, even though implementation took a long time. We use it day, every day. Pros Fishbowl is an easy solution that allows us to track inventory, manufacturing, and order fulfillment from the most basic parts and components, to finished and shipped product. For the most part, Fishbowl has integrated well with other software our company uses like Shopify and HubSpot. The customer support team is also stellar. They have always been able to answer my questions, or they take the time to find an answer and get back to me. I never hesitate to reach out to them. Cons I wish it was possible to receive notifications. It would be nice if I could receive an email when my stock is getting low on certain products, or customize the visibility of sales orders to easily see when certain products are being ordered (customer ordered product A, that SO is now bolded, a different color, etc.) We integrate with Shopify, and we have two separate production and fulfillment facilities. I wish Fishbowl was able to split a sales order when parts of the order will be fulfilled at facility A and the rest of the order will be fulfilled at facility B. The manual workaround is inconvenient. We have a lot of parts and products and the platform allows us to efficiently keep track of everything and process customer orders quickly and accurately. Cons The reporting features leave a lot to be desired. I find that most of the time I am exporting large reports that are slow to generate to transform in excel to get the information I am looking for. At least it keeps most of our numbers somewhat in sync with quick books, so I don't get yelled at. Pros You can mess with the template but it's all about how much time you've got. But surprisingly it did manage to handle batch numbers when doing bulk uploads. Cons The error message when an upload failed doesn't tell me anything. I wish there were a way to sort and filter my basic stock quantity on the product availability page through excel rather than having to go out of the application. Cancelling our subscription has been by far the worst experience ever. They make sure you never find the cancel button and force you to contact three separate people (sales) before allowing you to quit. This reporting thing is terrible too. Review Source DS David S.
