April 14, 2026 4.0 Overall I have a good impression from Fishbowl, pricing is affordable for small teams, but its got the feature set for big customers. I would use it for again if I needed to make the choice. Pros They have a self-hosted version, its very high quality, low maintenance to run the server. The software has a huge set of features for manufacturing and inventory control. Sales orders and purchase orders are also all under the same roof. Sales orders support invoicing and reporting. Manufacturing has BOM's, Work Orders, Manufacture Orders, and has options for custom MO's as well as reverse MO's. Software has a great layout, its not old and dated, but neither is it a flashy smooth interface that changes with every new update. Styling is consistent. Customer support is easy to reach, they recently on-boarded a number of new employees, so no issues. Accounting export is automatically synced from Fishbowl to Quickbooks. It supports desktop and cloud versions of quickbooks. Seamless integration. Cons New features are slow in coming. They could use an upgraded custom reporting tool, current stock report set is great, but ability to customize is somewhat lacking. The tech help is very helpful when needed, and the software seems to function well. Pros Fishbowl works really well as it is. But there are some functionalities it is lacking. We worked with developers to create a customer report for us that they just were not able to do (create a production list). I like the intuitiveness of use, and I like the way most of the process flows are set up. Cons The RMA process is very cumbersome and repetetive. There are so many steps to the process, and doing one simple return takes much longer than it should. It does wonders in keeping track of our inventory and purchases. Having this level of clarity on our logistics and technical specifications has been incredibly helpful for the team. Pros It is a great program and was very easy to learn how to use. Previously, we didn't have a way to track our inventory, and this program has helped us to do so effectively. We are very pleased with how it has streamlined our processes. Cons What I like least is how long it takes to open to login. Additionally, it seems to kick users out too fast if the system isn't being used for a little while. Having an automotive based business, there are many combinations of parts we can put together, so kits has been very valuable to our business. The integrations with the ecommerce platforms and shipping solutions have made our order management efficient and effortless. Fishbowl has been an integral part of our company's success. Pros We have been using Fishbowl for 8 years. It does everything we need for inventory control, point of sale and order management. The integration with eBay, Big Commerce and ShipStation are paramount to our business running smoothly. Anytime we have needed customer support, they have been responsive and resolutions have been quick. We mainly use kits on our selling platforms and Fishbowl's capabilities in this area are versatile. Cons Any time there is an upgrade, we are reluctant to install it because of issues we have had in the past upgrading the first day or two after it is released. I would not choose any other system again if I had a choice. Fishbowl is just wonderful and everybody who works at Fishbowl has always been polite, patient, and knowledgable with my companies issues. Pros Fishbowl has great inventory management and customer support. They are always on point and knowledgable about their product when I call in with an issue. I call in alot because Fishbowl is a full featured inventory management system and am still learning every single function. It is such a well designed inventory management system and they are always improving it with updates. the updating process is seamless and they are always their to help you along the way. Cons Not being able to have all invoices automatically integrated without manually receiving the payments in quickbooks. Our implementation team has been nothing but helpful and has been able to assist us through the struggles of going live. Trainings were very easy to schedule and feedback throughout the trainings has been a large piece to our continued success in Fishbowl. Pros We enjoyed the customization that Fishbowl offers. Being a boat manufacturer puts our implementation in the more niche category due to the individualistic nature of building boats, and Fishbowl was able to guide us through building the system around out own best practices. It is amazing how much we are able to accomplish in just the warehousing license and the workarounds we created to manufacturing in a warehouse limited database. The other pieces of Fishbowl that we have enjoyed thus far include the clarity of process steps due to green arrow, red truck, blue checkmark. The ability to run a multitude of reports. The ease of invoicing directly from a sales order. And especially the functionality of kitting. Furthermore, we look forward to leveraging tools such as auto PO's and order tracking to increase our inventory efficiency. Cons Fishbowl has a large amount of reports that are very helpful, but can be rigid in customization. For example, the inventory valuation summary does not let the report filter for multiple location groups at once, and instead can only be sorted by one location or location group at a time. Other reports also have a restricting feel to them being that there aren't many options to add fields to the report from within the modify report wizard. One of the biggest reports we would like to be able to run out of Fishbowl is a work in progress report, but being that we aren't in the manufacturing license, we cannot. We would like to be able to run this report based off location type, as we have do have manufacturing type locations set up in Fishbowl for inventory in process. Customizations and added filter fields in the inventory valuation summary would be very helpful. Pros We use it mainly as a WMS, and there's an awful lot of functionality within this product to take advantage of. Calling out the "wiki" of videos and other materials for bot introduction to Fishbowl as well as to become aware of many aspects that help order management. Cons Reports and/or ability to write custom-reporting to meet our specific business needs. I do feel this is a bit more "back-burner" and may be in development. Cons While Quickbooks is included with the contract when you purchase Fishbowl other integrations are not. We wanted to purchase the Shopify integration however they were experiencing difficulty with it and was unavailable. We went with the E-commerce instead. This isn't terrible for our current volume but may become expensive at the next tier. We came from a fan inferior system with a UI that left my employee's confused and constantly making mistakes. Fishbowl was willing to help guide those employees, and worked tirelessly to ensure we could migrate from our old system with ease. Thank you Fishbowl Team! Pros Fishbowl has an end user friendly UI that makes creating orders, and purchase orders seamless. It allows for quick and easy inventory management, and notifies users of inventory deficiencies right away. The cost per account is fair for a system of this caliber. Set up with Makayla was a breeze, she was a great help in getting this moving with Fishbowl, even when our migration was not a simple case by any means. Cons I don't have any complaints about this system. I have made some UI suggestions, and I was made aware that those suggestions were sent up to the development team right away. Pros We are able to do a good amount of config that is capable of being done without the need of a Fishbowl technician. Cons The lack of reporting options and user friendliness of it. Being able to generate and format data from Fishbowl. Also the integration with QuickBooks is not that stable. Before Fishbowl I spent countless hours looking for and counting every part in our plant, and also products. Once we signed onto Fishbowl I entered every product into the system. I added SKU's and Bar Codes to all of our parts and products and then our shipping team can scan out all orders live as they ship. Our manufacturing manager can scan completed products straight into inventory so I could have confidence when lining up the shipment, that the products were available. Pros I love Fishbowl for its ability to warn me of upcoming shortages in our manufacturing process. I love how it links our financial team to my orders and supplies to streamline the accounting process when invoicing and making payments. I love the ability to adjust Inventories as I walk around the plant, keeps me from wasted paper and time. I also love the fact that the customer support is live and an actual person. It has cut the cost of our operations by allowing me to be free to do other tasks. Mostly importantly, the security of knowing there is restricted access and there must be a log in for every action. Cons There is very little that I dislike for the fact of time saved and accountability of my suppliers. I used to spend so many hours walking around and inventorying every part 2 - 3 times a week. In fact before Fishbowl, we would consistently oversell items we didn't even have on hand because the paper records always got messed up. But since Fishbowl keeps track of all the movement of those parts/products, I no longer have to call upset customers telling them their orders have to be canceled. I can view my inventory at home. We did have to find a way around how fishbowl handles work orders. It won't allow us to create a circular reference if we're making one product with another product. I no longer have to keep track of what my next purchase order number will be. Pros It has worked well enough, I use it every day to scan parts. So far it has not crashed (which is surprising since many of the pieces of software we purchase are complete garbage). Their tech support has been pretty good too, they respond right away. Cons The mobile app is super slow. And I hate that when you go to zero in a part's quantity, it removes the sub-location entirely. When I finally receive a shipment for the item I need to put into the new bins, I have to spend hours retyping the bin locations. It is a huge waste of my time. I need to remember to call instead of sending an email because it takes longer to get a response when emailing. My issues have always been taken care of efficiently and effectively once I called. Pros I work on the customer service side of the business, and I have to say that Fishbowl is one of the most user-friendly apps I have ever used. It is super easy to enter orders using both the customer's product number and ours. I find it very easy to invoice the orders out as well. I am very pleased with most of what it can do. Cons I feel like there are some things that fall on shoulders of the CSR's that should be handled by the production team/warehouse (ie: picking and shipping) but that might not be a FB issue, that could be the way my company has decided to do things. They were patient, called back when I couldn't figure out our phone systems. Cons The reporting can be better. Some reports are very modifiable which I enjoy but other are not. However, as I learn how to work around its quirks, it is not so bad. It takes a lot of time, as mentioned it is not intuitive. Pros At first, there was not much I liked about Fishbowl. After many training hours and hiring a consultant to help with training, we are finally getting the hang of it. It is a very cost effective program compared to others out there. Cons It is overly complicated and not intuitive at all. I have worked with a number of inventory systems, a good one is hard to find that covers it all and well. In fact, they’ve allowed us to accelerate the go-live timeline by scheduling longer, more focused meetings to work closely with us. Their flexibility and commitment have made the entire process much smoother and more productive.
