Patent Attorney Law Practice Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Productivity Up, Errors down." December 6, 2019 5.0 My work is much faster, error rate is much, much lower. Pros The data is all there and it's very easy to use. Best of all it imports data from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for both patents and trademarks and automatically dockets deadlines. It's a huuugggeee time saver and more accurate than a human entering the data. You still have to double check everything just in case, but it's a rare case where I find any issues. Support from \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\] is always super fast as well but I haven't needed it at all in a very long time. When I've suggested ways to make the product better they were implemented in a matter of days. Also, it's a flat rate no matter how many clients / records you add which is great. Cons The interface is a bit dated ... but it works really well and is very simple and easy to use so it's not a big complaint but I'm just answering the question. One other quirk is that when it auto-imports it uses the government ID number rather than my file number so you have to change that for each case but it is there in another field in each docketed case. June 9, 2020 5.0 Our IP paralegals have seen many advantages of using DocketTrak over the docketing software we were previously using. DocketTrak offers auto-docketing of statutory deadlines directly from the PTO, far greater customization of reports, each user is able to customize various views to their own preference, you can easily provide clients with access to their data, and the price is extremely affordable. \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\] and his team made the transition virtually seamless. We are extremely satisfied with our decision to select DocketTrak as our docketing software. Pros The conversion of the data from our prior docketing system to DocketTrak (DT) was simple and seamless. DT provided an on-line training session, but all functionality is included in their very thorough User Guide. It walks you through everything you need to know - step by step. Any questions we had, were promptly answered via email. We LOVE that all US cases are automatically docketed directly from the PTO database - no typos caused by human error. The auto docketing capability is my favorite feature. It takes a bit of time to set up initially - but once in place, everything is docketed automatically. It's comforting to know that statutory deadlines are automatically docketed. I love that reports can be created in Excel, Word and pdf, and you can easily tailor them to your client's liking. We have obtained a few large patent and trademark portfolios, and we had to simply provide an Excel spreadsheet to DT, and the next day everything was populated! When we told DT we needed a report to forward to our annuity company, they helped us set one up. Now I simply run the report every month and email it to our annuity company. One of the determining factors of selecting this software was DT's capability of providing client portal access - which is easy to set up. Because this software is cloud-based, I can access our data any time of the day on any mobile device. Lastly, the price is almost too good to be true. Cons You have to be willing to spend some time setting up your auto docket templates. This can take a little while, because you need to think through everything you want docketed. The software comes with standard templates, but there are so many other items that require docketing. I do wish there was a way to track patent families more thoroughly. Currently we just include priority and parent information in the Comments section. Presently it's not a large portfolio and only a solo practitioner so it adequately meets the needs, but I would recommend another product. Pros I like the ease of generating reports on DocketTrak and how easy it is to add new events. Cons It's a clunky docketing system. It does not do any automatic date calculations nor auto trigger future events. It is exactly dependent upon the docketor to input the record and manually calculate the response date. I still fear it raises liability risk issues. Reason for choosing DocketTrak The attorney made the decision to choose DocketTrak without my input. I think he got his money's worth which isn't much. We see that you turned this feature off on your account and therefore you don't get the great benefits of automated updating. If you enable that you can start getting the benefit from this great feature. You mentioned a lack of customer support, but we have never received any requests or phone calls from you. DocketTrak eliminates this stress from your practice. Simple, usable, reliable software that runs flawlessly. Pros DocketTrak (DT) keeps my patent and trademark docket current. DT pulls information from the USPTO on a daily basis, updates records, and adds deadlines. DT allows me to create rules so that additional reminders that I want for my practice get automatically docketed as the records are updated. DocketTrak merges data into Microsoft Word documents (templates). By taking data directly from the record, typographical errors are eliminated. The pricing model is great. Unlimited users, records, for a flat fee. Continues to be developed. The developer implemented the new USPTO authentication system so the USPTO changeover was seamless. Features and countries are continuously being added. My staff loves the automatic daily reminders that are sent by DocketTrak via email. Works with Clio. DocketTrak performs one-way syncing with Clio. 5+ years of use: Never down. Never offline. Never lost data. Programmed to be simple, usable, reliable. Like a hammer never fails a carpenter. DocketTrak has never failed me as a patent attorney. Cons I had an issue when cases were assigned to particular staff members. Support immediately gave me a work around but the root issue remained for a while. As of 12/6/2019, I think this issue is remedied. While some sharing of data is enabled, there is not a true API. When I first purchased, the software was at an early stage of development but it was the right match for a small practice. I thought that someday later I might switch to one of the big-name products. But I never looked back. DocketTrak works so well for me and my staff that I have never considered changing in 5+ years (writing 12/2019). My staff all say that DocketTrak is their favorite piece of software that my firm uses. Every question I have had has been answered in a very timely fashion and through a knowledgeable associate not just a call center. This is absolutely must have software for any small/medium firms that manage IP. Pros The best part of DocketTrack is the ability to import information from the USPTO. It drastically reduces the time manually inputting the information into the docket. The software automatically updates every night and alerts you of any changes in the application. The daily reports are wonderful because they provide a lot of information in an easy format that can easily be reviewed without taking up much time. Cons The only downside I have seen to the software is that there is not a separate editing view. It saves a tremendous amount of docketing labor to have Events created before going in to add staff/assign responsibility. We still put human eyes onto every new docketing action, but "reviewing and fine-tuning" rather than "start from scratch" is fantastic. Pros Our firm used to use an antiquated database that was not specific to IP law, and that barely met our needs. We knew converting around 10,000 files to a new system would be a big project, and considered carefully before making a selection. Nearly three years later we remain delighted with DocketTrak. The ability to create client-specific docketing templates helps keep us easily organized with much less room for human error, and it's simple to make changes as client guidelines change. We find DocketTrak to be easy for our new hires to learn, easy to customize, and easy for our attorneys to look ahead at their workloads. Many thumbs up! Cons Turned out not to be a dislike: Our prior docketing software included billing functions, so it was a bit of an adjustment shifting to non-integrated billing and docketing programs. But I only point this out because we thought it would be a rougher adjustment than it turned out to be, we found a standalone billing program we like too and both departments are happy. We needn't have hesitated to proceed with a standalone docketing system. Reason for choosing DocketTrak We were already impressed with DocketTrak before we had a great walk-through meeting with Monty, and decided we liked the people behind this product as much as we liked the product itself. Integration with PAIR is critical, and few products other than DocketTrack have got that working right and consistently. Pros Seamless and reliable imports from USPTO. Cons Some docket dates are not part of the automatic rule set, and if not noticed, can lead to a missed date. I set up a default 30 day rule with monthly followup. This avoids missed dates, but can lead to false positive docket entries. The integration with Clio is rudimentary, and "one time only" data migration. Data needs to be fully cleaned before ingestion by Clio, or fixing afterwards is a pain. It would be nice if there was an incremental data transfer option to set up new cases in Clio from the automated entries in DocketTrack on an on-going basis, and tech support for that option. It is easy to learn and the docket sheets produced contained a wealth of information not found in other docketing program. Pros It is so easy to navigate and find things. I was in a firm that used CPI and PATTSY and I could never find the information needed if I had a question. I had to leave the work for someone else. I am training someone else on DocketTrak now and it's so easy for her to see how it works and how to find marks, either by mark or reference number or serial/registration numbers. Pros I love the syncing of this software to the USPTO system for the most recent in time updates of your matters you are keeping track of. I also really like the informative daily emails, which is customizable and helps keep me on tasks and shows new dockets. It was very easy to integrate all of our Trademarks, Patents, and copyrights into the system and get it up and running. It is like having another employee keeping track of all of our docketing needs, for a great price! Cons I do not like that you have to run a pair connect to add a new patent, as this take a lot of time and adds things back that we have deleted, that havent updated at the USPTO level yet. This integration with the PTO ensures that the dockets are kept up-to-date on a daily basis, which is a must. Auto-calculating and calendaring due dates, such as Office Action responses, is a life saver and ensures that staff hasn't missed a deadline. Cons I can't think of any cons to report. Member Legal Services Used the software for: 2+ years ### "DocketTrak" December 18, 2019 5.0 DocketTrak is both amazingly powerful and surprisingly inexpensive.  It's one of the few systems I've seen that handles trademark, patents, copyrights, litigation, and even contracts; it makes docketing a breeze by generating daily reminders and automatically updating a wide range of docketing entries; and it does all of that for a fraction of the cost of most docketing systems.  I would recommend DocketTrak to anyone, but especially to small and medium sized IP firms who need a lot of docketing power at a reasonable price.
