Comments: We spent the time to document our processes and identify areas where we wanted change. When the business analyst came, we were able to concentrate on how we wanted the EMR to work. This is the difference in having someone install an EMR with the "usual" processes and making it work for you. They are very willing to work with you to make the product work for your needs, you just have to identify what you want. If they can't change something (we wanted a couple of languages added to the list in demographics and couldn't because they were not on a standard list) they can work with you to find a solution.

Pros: This is a very cost effective EMR for our small health department. We are able to customize progress notes to allow for fast and efficient documentation of immunizations. Messenger can be used to call and cancel patients if an emergency happens and we need to cancel patients. This can be done from the internet anywhere, which can be a big help not to have to go into the office during a severe weather event. We have had very responsive staff from eCW who helped us during customization and implementation. The chat feature on the support portal can give quick answers (except on Friday afternoon). The support techs have always been quick to get back to us. The eCW university that has videos to either train new staff or remind current staff of processes is very valuable. This saves trying to construct training materials on your own.

Cons: Data entry for historic immunization records is time consuming. I look forward to a time when we will have bi-directional data transmission with our state immunization database, which will eliminate the historical documentation. As others note, there can be difficulties with communication if a support person does not have English as their first language. It just takes slowing down and being patient.

Comments: Over all the system is easy to navigate. The look and feel of the product are very pleasing. If I could have my old, local technical support back, I would highly recommend this product, but due to the past 3 years of terrible customer and technical service, I'm reluctant to refer other clinics to this product.

Pros: Integrated system. Easy to maneuver from the front office to back office features. Many new enhancements over the past 10 years. "Trying" to stay up to date with moving target of healthcare.

Cons: Technical support is lacking immensely. The techs are more concerned about closing your "help desk ticket" than really helping you solve your issues. eCW states they are a Meaningful Use Certified EHR but have left their existing customers of almost 10 years in the dust when they discovered a programming error. Now clinics will be penalized 3% in Medicare payments in 2018. Report features are lacking. As of recently, they nickel and dime you for every new feature, upgrade, and/or request, such as interfaces, customized reports for all the government mandated programs, enhanced dashboards, etc. Communication with their customers, or lack there of, is very frustrating. eCW believes posting critical information on a website is "sufficient enough." When you're going to shut down the entire system for 3 days with no access or you tell your customers they're meeting meaningful use and then 7 days before the end of the reporting period eCW "discovers" their system is NOT reporting right, this should be important enough information to communicate directly to the customers, right? Nope, eCW posts the information on their website and "hopes" you log in a read the paragraph in a timely manner. NOT acceptable in my eyes. Mountains of improvement in customer service.

Recommendations to other buyers: I would really research other products before choosing eCW. The program is great, but the technical support and training, which you pay a lot of money for are quite frankly terrible!

Pros: Notes are typed, so they are legible.

Supposedly, the billing function is useful, however, my group does not use this.

Cons: -Very slow to startup, and uses a lot of resources on your desktop computer

-Too many clicks

-Too easy to make mistakes and lose work (where did my 5 paragraph note go?!)

-Not easy to customize

-eCW often generates medical errors

-interface is terrible--why can I only see 5 lines of typed text at a time? Why are there 5 buttons on a view that are all labeled the same thing? (No...use the "scan" button in the upper left, not the lower right)

--too many mandatory fields that are not relevant (I just want to see his past vitals...I don't want to enter a pain score right this second...)

--low quality document and photo uploads (I think that's a wound...but it's so pixelated)

--Easy to lose formatting in templates (if you click here, it's ok, but if you click over there, then all hell breaks loose)

--Anything that is not done in a billable visit has to be done in a telephone encounter

--E prescribe module is difficult to use and not consistent. (Sometimes you can type in a box, sometimes you have to click on a little number pad, the options for prescribing are in a weird order (alphabetical, ordinal), complex dosing, like a prednisone taper cannot be done.)

Overall: My notes can be seen and read outside of a paper chart. Other than that, not much

Pros: ECW can get most of what you want done. I work mainly on the reporting side and staff support. The ability to pull reports is pretty good with their EBO system. We get almost everything we need reporting wise from that system whether it's financial or encounter data. Their support is pretty responsive usually calling back the same day in most cases. Their billin service is pretty good and is very reasonable. Our company pays about 8% totally cost with ECW which is pretty much the industry standard.

Cons: There are sometimes a lot of clicks with ECW. Anytime you do an upgrade something is not going to work which is very frustrating. If you are a CPC practice you will be frustrated as their reporting dashboard took until the middle of 2018 to start working and then we upgraded and now we are waiting on a patch to get the dashboard back up. Don't expect to speak to anyone that's first language is English when you call support. We started with ECW in late 2015 and we had to setup everything from scratch which we thought was really strange as they have so many practices you would think there would already be templates for almost everything.

Overall: It gets the job done for us and it probably just like most other EMRs they all have issues but at the end of the day they allow you to record your notes and bill the insurance.

Comments: Support has improved over the past 6 months. The technical teams really care about solving the issues that arise. You can really tell the staff at eClinicalworks are very committed to customer satisfaction. When so many companies are not concerned with customer satisfaction I am glad that we are using on that is.

Pros: Always changing and updating the operation of the Software to keep up with the ever changing Health Care Industry

Cons: The Software is so flexible and we have been using it since 2006 we really need to develop additional ways to make documentation of Progress notes easier for the providers. When we were trained back in 2006 to develop templates and to use the software for our Providers a lot has changed over the years. It has be difficult to keep up with all the enhancements and developments to the software. Now is the time to really take a good look at how we can go back to making documentation even better for our providers to improve their experience with seeing the patients and not feel so much like it is all about computer documentation and not about the patient any longer. As we move forward into fee for service payment for providers, more is required of the providers and easing their burden is key.

Comments: Honestly, I dread being on the phone with their IT department. It can take several days for their IT to call back when your system is down or completely slowed. They also take no responsibility for minor glitches in the system. They say "well, it looks like we do not see it here" yet you reported it for 5 times, they still do not acknowledge that it's a problem or do anything to prevent it in the future. Their communication is also very poor. We use some ipads in our clinic, with the ipad upgrade, they did not inform us that it will disable many features of ECW and completely slow it down. When they were able to fix this problem, we were not notified of the changes either. Honestly, there's such terrible communication with this company. They outsource their calls to people that do not have clinical knowledge and it's frustrating to explain EVERY single step every single time. Their multiple clicks just to be able to complete a task is also extremely inefficient. There's just so many frustrating aspects of this system. MOST IMPORTANTLY, if you think they will transfer your old data over correctly. They are lying!!!!

Pros: It has the ability to send messages to patients by using voice features built into the system.

Cons: If your fax, progress note, or any problem occurs. It takes them weeks to fix. What is most frustrating is that their IT department does NOT try to resolve your problem but find excuses to close the case. Most of the time, I can't even understand what the engineer is saying. Mainly because they send me information that is almost entirely numbers, related to their system. Without having proper training, how would someone be able to understand that. What's even more frustrating is if you have problems with their interface with lab, they expect you to contact the lab company yourself and figure out what it is they need.

Comments: Terrible, terrible EMR. Don't buy it, I beg you. I'm taking early retirement from my group in large part because of this program.

Pros: I honestly like almost nothing about eCW. My practice switched from a fairly basic but very functional EMR (SRS Health) to eCW about a year ago. It has been an unmitigated disaster. The training was terrible, the support slow to respond generally and the user experience unbelievably frustrating. I've wasted so much time clicking around trying to complete the most basic tasks it makes me want to cry. If forced to pick a pro, I'd say...actually I can't think of anything. I hate it.

Cons: 1. Illogical workflow. I could go on a long time about this but I don't have room. 2. The web version and desktop version are significantly different so if you go home to finish notes, which I have to do almost every night, you have to remember to do many tasks two different ways. Here's one frustrating difference. You can fax prescriptions from the desktop version but can not from the web version which means if I have a controlled substance to send in I have to wait until the next day when I get back to the office and can use the desktop version. 3. There are too many other cons to list. They are mostly numerous little things that slowly drive you mad. Morale at our office has been terrible since we changed to eCW.

Pros: The idea of web visits. Although it took several weeks and several support members to get it working.

Cons: the program was so compartmentalized...each individual only knew about their part. One would spend weeks troubleshoot an error to find out that another had not turned on the feature. The system is too complicated for those that programmed their parts! I then after approximately one year decided to transition to a more user friendly emr...this process was just as problematic. They sent a disc that was not in the format needed and then refused to change it and refused to allow the new emr company to access the emr. We were told to download it in the format ourselves...when we tried, we had been disabled from doing so. We called to gain access from the project manager...again on hold for 45 minutes. Still waiting for a call back. Note that they are expecting pay for this 5th world emr while we transition. These people have unfair business practices and have been fined and sued repeatedly by the Department of Justice. Now I'm being held hostage paying for a suboptimal emr that has done nothing but caused me grief.

Overall: NOTHING !!!!! RUN LIKE HELL AS FAST AS YOU CAN IN ANOTHER DIRECTION.

Pros: Lots of features but sometimes less is more and it becomes cumbersome and time consuming.

Cons: Tech Support ALL out of India. They don't tell you this when you purchase.

Tech support can't speak English well thus a terrible language barrier and EVERY phone call with them takes a minimum of 45 minutes due to this so you lose tons of time thus revenue.

Tech Support Horrible and no one knows what the other one is doing or has done.

Let me say that again, TECH SUPPORT HORRIBLE. Plus didn't seem to fix anything.

Glitchy and lost documentation on several occasions requiring re-entering.

RX Printing did not work right the entire time we had them (2 years)

MIPS reports was not done by them as we were told and they had to walk us through doing all the reporting ourselves.

You have to pay for extra training. The training we recieved or 5 days was all the trainer fixing glitches and little training was possible.

Data migration from eclinicals was a nightmare.

We couldn't wait to change EMRs.

Comments: I have often wondered about the popularity of ECW. After all, I think there are many better systems out there, it lacks many necessary features and it is not cheap. I believe ECW owes its success to a good sales team, and to the fact that potential users think: if it is adopted by so many users, it must be good. In big corporations, the decisions are made by administrators, not by physicians, and the former are not well attuned to the negative aspects of the software. Due to the nature of this software requiring website re-direction each time you order anything, there is a 3-4 second lag time that occurs every other click, and that adds up to a lot of wasted time at the end of the day. Windows cannot be minimized, and you cannot simply insert your cursor and start typing in a section of the chart. Therefore, if you are in the middle of writing your HPI and the patient asks you about her lab result, you have to x out of several windows, check labs and then re-open several windows, adding to as many as 13-14 clicks, and a major interruption of the workflow. The upgrade to version 10 was disastrous. Customer support is horrible. Interface with the hospital system (Cerner), with the labs and with Sure-Scripts is awful. There are many aspects that could be improved if there was any willingness on the part of their programmers to get better, but I think they take their popularity as an indication that they are doing well. The lab review process is cumbersome. When I have lab results for one patient that I want to review and post to the note, it takes me an average of 21 clicks. Rx eligibility is dysfunctional. Saving medications as favorites has not been working since the "upgrade". The conversion from ICD-9 to ICD-10 was poorly managed. Our institution uses a separate office management software, with a lot of redundancy and poor interface.

Pros: Macros and order sets. The form of the finished note looks nice.

Cons: Everything else (see above)

Recommendations to other buyers: Stay away and dare to think differently. Just because everyone you know orders it does not mean you have to.

Cons: Not intuitive/user friendly

Doesn't multitask, can't open multiple windows at the same time, have to click too many times

Slow, freezes often

Has multiple glitches: particular one is with medications-when choosing a med for a diagnosis, somehow defaults to another diagnosis, so end up prescribing a med for an unrelated diagnosis; finding meds is not easy

Overall: I work within a medical group of 2-300 practitioners. I have been using the eCW for close to two years, and am having headaches everyday. Not very intuitive, and hard to navigate. Too many clicks. It can't multitask, i. e. can't open multiple windows at the same time. Have to click too many times to move to a different section, then come back to where you were previously, then end up having to go back because I forgot what I just saw(oops, that would be my fault...). I was using Allscripts before joining the current practice, and was complaining about it back then; now I would go back to Allscripts any minute. It's interesting to see how the users in the management side seem to love it, but for the practitioners like me, "Run, don't walk away from it" sums it up nicely.

Recommendations to other buyers: Don't choose this one! I can't believe I spent half an hour to write this review(and to read others) when I have tons of notes to write; just goes to show how passionately I loathe this EMR

Comments: I have attended about 8 eCW users conferences, including the first one in Orlando. I am a superuser. Initially, I was optimistic, but over time I have seen a lot of false promises and lack of USER -driven improvements. The whole feel of eCW is that of a clunky data gatherer. It is absolutely dreadful at the point-of-care. I didn't go to med school to be a data entry clerk. The piecemeal product now. Nickel and dime every little feature/service. When will an EHR come out that makes sense at the point of care?

Pros: Customizable - but be careful - you may have to redo everything after an upgrade. Reporting features and back office 'ok'. Portal, Healow app and eclinicalmobile are decent (though erx through mobile is wonky).

Cons: Too many clicks. Too many windows. Tiny boxes. Tiny font. Poor format. Early 2000's feel and look. Upgrades often require the user to fix data (re-map, correct NDC codes, etc. etc. etc.) which is a total pain for staff and the providers. Too many ways to achieve the same thing, just causes confusion. Internal messaging a joke.

Pros: I had a horrible time getting the product up and running. We continued to complain and help was very slow, if any for a lot time. The service has improved but I would still not recommend this product.

Cons: I wish I had recorded the sale person who demonstrated the product. The program he used look different from what I have. In addition, my receptionist took one of their webinar courses and stated that it was a waste of time as the program they used was more user friendly than what we were given. I have to agree. I complained to the company about this issue. I feel I was given an order version of the program demonstrated yet they deny this. In addition, I picked this emr over another because I was promised it included telemedicine as well as medical dragon. I purchased the more costly of the two plans offered which was listed as comprehensive and included "Nuance dragon" only to be took after I signed the contract and complained that telemedicine was extra. It is not listed in my contract but I understood "comprehensive package" as included it rather than the basic package. The Nuance dragon I am told is "Nuance like" If I want the real nuance medical dragon I have to pay for it myself. The emr went live in the middle of May, yet it was not functional until late July, I was made to pay for it the whole time because the patient registration portion which was the only usable part of the emr was being used. Forget the fact that billing and patient notes was not functional. For the aggravation I was given only one month credit.

Recommendations to other buyers: I wanted to have EMR up from the beginning of opening my practice. I tell my colleagues DO NOT RUSH IT. Stay on paper until you find a good EMR. There is a big fee for canceling the product. In addition, if possible, I HIGHLY recommend you video tape the demonstration and obtain what is included and what is extra cost. I personally asked if telemedicine and Nuance medical dragon was included at least twice during my demonstration and was assured it was. Bottom line, the sale person is like a car salesman. He trying to make the sale, that is how he makes his living. He will say anything to make the sale. GET IT ON TAPE!

Pros: Full practice software for all aspects of managing a medical office and patient charting. Able to accommodate several practitioners and staff allowing for large volumes of files and database. Very straight forward practical application to use given all the functions available.

Cons: Many features were not used as it is not easily streamlined for a specialty practice. Tech support/service call response is immediate but actual support and repair was often deferred to a later time and was difficult to communicate with their staff, located overseas. Costs for eclinical is expensive.

Comments: I am posting this poor review due to a lack of response from tech and customer support. I would not recommend this EHR because of our my current issue with product and it should have been an easy fix given its been 5 months.

Pros: Reasonable ease of use for an EHR but all of EHRs still stink. More reasonable cost than most and was not dissatisfied with company until an update in August/Sept. Our particular problem has not been fixed in the last 5 months and I have not gotten any reasonable response back from the company about this issue. This particular part of the EMR was working well prior to the last update.

Cons: Poor tech and customer support. My office has sent him ticket after ticket online without any hint of trying to solve the problem. So not matter how cost effective the product may be or the ease of use if they are not going to respond efficiently and effectively to our user needs then they are not worth using.

Pros: Read this review as a warning if you are considering eCW.

Cons: My brother asked me to step in as emergency manager of his primary care medical practice in San Francisco in 2009 (my background is tech startups). He's an internist and was salutatorian of his UCSF med school class, so he's a smart guy, even in a room full of smart guys. And he's extremely hard-working. His partner chose eClinicalWorks for their 2-doctor practice. What was their experience? First: it was extremely, and they had to make regular payments to keep using it, so when they got into financial trouble, this was one bill they had to pay, every time, because if they didn't, eCW could literally shut off the software and shut down their practice. That happened once, and then I made sure it did not happen again until we closed the doors (I was there 6 months, the last one spent actually shutting the practice down and helping my brother file Chapter 7). Second: eCW's company culture, like that of almost all software companies (again, my background is high tech) is to over-promise and under-deliver. The company has absolutely no skin in the game. They do not have to actually make their software useful to you in order to get paid, and they don't care if their system is actually helping you run your practice; they only want to get paid. Third: the software was overly complicated to use. The training was inadequate and not a priority for the vendor, and all the training was at an additional cost. This is a joke; the training should have been comprehensive, extensive, and free. I think the support staff probably needed about 3-4 times as much formal training as they received. They universally disliked the software, mainly because they felt it was overly complicated and not intuitive.

Recommendations to other buyers: Shop around. I would find another solution if I were you.

We switched to eCW two years ago and have never looked back, very forward thinking.

Pros: Our clinicians feel that the setup is much more efficient than some of the other eHR packages we have use. I like we're they are going with the web based content and PHM. We see a lot of value in the product and feel it has been a great investment. From a financial standpoint, the monthly subscription service helps small businesses who can't afford to put up large sums of money for initial license fees.

Cons: Their report generator is a little more difficult to use than some products, or you don't have access to all fields. We utilize their Query writer often and then dump the data into Excel. Their Report Writer suite can be powerful, but requires advanced knowledge of query writing, which many small to medium sized companies likely will not have available.

Overall: Ease of use from clinical side, good product from Practice Management. Forward thinking with patient engagement.

Pros: All like the most features under the Billing navigation tab especially. The registry is the fastest way to get info drilled down to your specific needs. We are using the kiosk and questionnaires. This feature has helped tremendously with meeting Clinical Integration (CI) measures. It has also helped streamline patient check in and collecting outstanding balances. There are always new things to learn and try - always evolving!

Cons: The EBO reporting system. I do not find it easy to learn. I do not find it fits or is workable in the medical field. The reports do not give you current, month to date or year to date totals on your reports. You cannot create reports that give that information as well.

Overall: Opportunities to improve our medical outcomes in all areas and departments.

Comments: Overall I think there is some improvement that can be done, but ECW gets us through the day to day functions. The support staff could be a lot better. All in all, ECW does what we need it to do.

Pros: ECW offers a lot of features that our staff utilizes. Our staff loves the jellybean system and how it makes referral, telephone encounters, messages, etc easier to see. The resource schedules are very simple to view and utilize. Running reports in ECW is super easy.

Cons: The staff support is slow with ticket response. Even when the ticket is marked high priority, the response time takes hours sometimes. We experience a lot of slowness on a day to day basis. This is referring to the ECW product itself. Our providers have complained about being in the rooms with patients and having to stall due to system slowness.

Comments: I used e-clinical for 7yrs as a Front office and Billing Manager in a Family practice Clinic. It has some great functionality and really includes about everything. Customer support was very lacking and was hard to get things fixed it a timely manner, you had to rely a lot on your own IT staff. Overall great product that I still consult on all the time.

Pros: Great Billing area and claims management. Great reporting. Love the Patient central hub, you can find anything from there.

Cons: Customer support and setup for full functionality is lacking. if you know how to use the system it is great, learning it past the webinars is difficult.

Recommendations to other buyers: the Cost is really high and there are several other products that car comparable for a lot less and better support. if you do go there makes sure you choose a clearing house that integrates well with the system and who will talk to them for you. otherwise it will be a big headache.

I have had a love hate relationship with ECW for 10 years, I would love to change to something that would make my life easier, but also be cost effective.

Pros: I can copy over most any part of the prior note, but I can separate out most any section to bring over. Currently cheaper that several other programs.

Cons: A lot. The entire system is compartmentalized and so it the support, so often times one support area will do something that has adverse affects on other things. The system does not make it easier to function, way too many clicks, its unstable and will freeze up or require a reboot. They nickel and dime you with very high prices for adding interfaces, adding documents, and the program does not work well on an iPad. They have good videos for starting out, or adding new people, but nothing when it comes to advanced or indepth education or training or best practice setups or ways to make things flow easier.

Pros: They have built a lot of functionality in different spaces (online appointments, check-in kiosk, patient portal, patient messaging, etc.).

Cons: If there are more than a few sites or providers in your practice, they are likely not for you. They can't handle volume or scale, many processes are extremely manual. Their support is some of the worst I have ever experienced. Tier 1 support personnel do nothing but read from their user manuals, and escalations can take days or weeks. We had substantial problems that persisted for years that regardless of how many times we talked to eCW CEO & COO we saw no resolution. They simply couldn't handle our size (30+ clinics). It may look nice on the outside, but behind the scenes their products are a mess and unreliable.

Pros: I love that this software has everything you need in one spot. You no longer have to open 2 or 3 programs, because this does it all! You can view the schedule, look up a patients medical records and visits, and view all their information/notes in one place. It is easy to use once you get the hang of it. Customer service is very quick to respond to you when placing a ticket and make sure to quickly resolve any issues you might have. This software has so many more features compared to other softwares I have used and you have so many options when scheduling someone.

Cons: The layout of this software is very confusing to say the least. It has so many great features, but everything is very scattered. It took me months to learn all the reports you could run and all the billing features. The medical records would get very frustrating at times because certain things that were entered in would not save at times and just disappear. This software is also expensive, but I will say you are able to accomplish so many things so it is worth it.

Comments: Our organization has 3 doctors that are primary physicians to residents in nursing home. We provide service for 9 nursing homes and continue to grow. We have 4 office staff and are all virtual. We use eClinicalWorks and Group One for billing and host through PSM. We went with eClinicalWorks because Group One billing was incorporated with them and also the hosting of the server. We did not want to have to update our own software. We are a relatively new business and did not have any software previous. We bought it in 2011 and the implementation went fine. The team did learn how to use eClinicalWorks quickly and the templates have been very useful. In regards to customer service I find that my main contact at Group One Tara Carney has been fantastic. When I have a need or issue she is right on it for me. She seems to know who to contact for me and they get back to me in a timely manner. eClinicalWorks customer service is much tougher because of the big size and it seems that 4 people contact me about something that one person could take care of. I understand that it is large and things need to go through channels so I have just accepted that I will get many phone calls and need to go through many people. I seem to go back to Tara to have her handle the situation for me and she always points me in the right direction. We are a different type of health care business and I know we have pushed a few people out of their box to get the functionality that we need to provide the best quality of care for the patient and to make it a great working environment for all. In doing so eClinicalWorks and Group One have always been receptive to growth and change to fit our needs so we can progress and that has been very much appreciated. I would have to say the Group One has been fantastic and is the main reason that we are very happy with our choice of EMR. I would like to give Renzi Russell and especially Tara Carney much of the recognition they deserve for providing excellent customer service and a fantastic knowledge of their positions. Tara has been wonderful with all she does.

Comments: I have seen several comments that ecw is affordable. It is not....it's very expensive and they nickle and dime you to death. They tell you products are free and then a year later you get a huge bill for a service you were told was free. We probably pay a FTE's salary in what we pay annually for ecw.

Pros: Great product if you can actually figure out how to use without spending tons of hours and money on training. They stay on top of current issues and regulations.

Cons: We have had bugs in our system since it was built in 2012. It has never gotten better. No one speaks English as a first language EXCEPT FOR SALES DEPARTMENT, of course. Typically when we have questions or problems we let it go for as long as we can because we know how long and horrible it will be to deal with tech support.

Comments: DO NOT GO WITH THIS!!!!

Pros: That is is cheap and you get what you pay for. I do like some of the billing features. Not many other pros

Cons: 1. had to hire staff for all the errors eclinical has. they do not have a support. when an issue comes up you have to leave a ticket, they call u 1 hour later and then your staff have to uses their time and their computer to be walked thru how to fix it. meaning each issue takes 2-3 hours of your staff time. nothing is simple. 2. we finished and went live on may 14 2018. NOTHING WAS LIVE!! 2 months later we still cannot get electronic prescriptions done. Non of my old emr imported, Non of the referring providers were in for 2 weeks. Try running a business with patients and no staff because your staff are on the phone with support. 3 their 5 days of trainer on site is a joke. That was an extra member who was on the phone the entire time fixing implementation issues. NO ONE GOT TRAINED> NOTHING WAS READY. oh and by the way i signed up in jan 2018 so i gave them 5 months to get all data and this together.......

Pros: the finished notes do look pretty, with data on the left hand margin, instead of a 7 page note ; but you better make sure the PCP or referring doctor is listed and "known" to the circle of care, or that also has to be manually entered

Cons: once again, I dictate, and it transcribes, and then I try to "scribe" it into a progress note, and it say "the request has times out"; this used to happen a lot, it went away, and now it is back; I have to manually type every note as of this moment. I end every note with the disclaimer that I would not recommend this product. I also thought I figured out how to cut and paste data from one part of my note to another, but that failed. Typing in a diagnosis under assessments is a joke, it will either not offer the correct diagnosis or only offer an unrelated diagnosis - so under PMH I have to manually type a correct/ exact diagnosis

Comments: Fed up with this company. Moving on.

Pros: Started with this company because of the reasonable cost and promising future. But they only grew worse as they get bigger not better. They recently settled on a law suit (you need to look it up yourself because you would not believe me as this is just a random online review). Do your due diligence and you will find out that this is not the company for you.

Cons: Bad support direct from India. A third of the time you can't understanding what they are saying. Another third they are trying to impress you with their "technical jargon" which is complete gibberish BS. The last third you are on hold while they find someone else who might be able to fix the problem.

Cons: It takes multiple steps and clicks to do any simple task, the way everything works is backwards and makes no sense so it is difficult to train anyone on. If you need support, good luck... you have to put in a ticket and wait, wait, wait for someone to call you and tell you they can't help its a glitch in the system get the new upgrade, so you do which comes with a whole new set of problems that no one can help with because its a glitch in the system and we have to wait for a new version to be available to download. I could go on and on, but I sure you get the picture.

Comments: eClinicalWorks is a great product but is pretty expensive so our smaller, one provider practices wouldn't be able to afford it. I know you get what you pay for, but it's unfortunate that it's so costly that a lot of providers won't even consider it for that reason.

Pros: It works great for large practices. The collection module works really well for our office, especially automatically uploading accounts to our collection agency. It has a huge amount of settings and options to chose from, which is great but can get overwhelming.

Cons: Customer service is always very prompt in their responses, but when they call it's very hard to understand them. Half the time the issue is not resolved because of communication problems.

Pros: nothing

Cons: Very time consuming to prepare a high quality note. Have to open and close text boxes for everything, so too many clicks. Can't just start a new note and click in what you want. Can't create your own user lists, which are helpful for keeping track of certain populations.

Overall: I worked for a teaching clinic that came on board in 2011 with ecw. Horrible program, freezes, have to click in and out of multiple boxes, up to 80 clicks to finish a consult note, submit the bill, and delegate the note to the referring physician. Supposed to be okay for small practices, but awful for a teaching clinic with new learners coming in every month. In the system I had to use, you couldn't change the font size, which was tiny (font 9). So glad I am in a new job and get to use EPIC.

Comments: Support is what would drive me away from this product. Implementation project management and installation is very good. Post implementation and project management is inconsistent and poorly managed within the company.

Pros: Good readability. Results management is effective, and the integration with patient portal eleinunsted the need for calling patients about normal values. Patient portal and integrated online billing is convenient and well received by patients.

Cons: Medication management is challenging. Preventative measures are difficult to manage. They are scattered throughout the EMR without a true home for everything. The alerts functions don¿t reflect quality measure compliance.

Pros: This software has a very user friendly interface, and is easy to navigate. The ability to view EOBS directly on a claim, leave claim specific notes to that claim and the easiness to balance out a claim/ patient balance makes it very pleasant to use as a medical biller. The scheduler tool is also very easy to use and is easy on the eyes. Overall it is a great software, and I would highly recommend it.

Cons: The software's reports are difficult to view since the changes made about a year ago. They require you to open an outside reporting website via internet explorer, and re-log in with your eClinical credentials. The way the system was prior to this, made it capable to generate reports within the EMR system. Just so you are aware, the support team is located over seas, and can be difficulty to reach at times.

Recommendations to other buyers: Evaluate what your specific needs are in an EMR/EHR/Billing Software. The accessibility and ease of use definitely put this product ahead of other programs. The cost may seem excessive, but worth it in the end. I recommend making a pros and cons list before selecting a software.

Comments: eClinicalWorks serves our needs as a non-profit community health center. We have two internal employees who are eCW experts and remain up to date on all features, new releases, upgrade options, etc. Our success with eCW is that we have internal employees to turn to instead of relying on external customer service to assist us when we encounter an issue.

Pros: eClinicalWorks is fairly comprehensive, allowing us to customize template options and choose which features we want to utilize.

Cons: The upgrades for certain features, like the patient portal, are slow to be released. We have been told for years that an upgrade is on its way, but there is no release date and no further update.

Comments: If users are willing to use to full capabilities, this system is great! Reduce time needed for outgoing referrals, no more need for the receptionist to make patient reminder calls. ECW is geared to really work with your patients. Patient reminder calls, text when RX's are sent to the pharmacy, patient recall is great for our pediatric office. It is much easier to contact our patients that are grouped into ages for needed visits and vaccines.

Pros: ECW flows well from health management to practice management

Cons: Customer service knowledge of what a physician's office needs, is lacking

Recommendations to other buyers: If it all possible, close your clinic for training, at least half days for the week ECW is on site for go live

Comments: I have worked on Eclinical Works for several years, the product is not very user-friendly and the technical support is horrible, to say the least as you have to create a ticket and wait until they call you back and the connection is terrible and the language barrier is really bad.

Pros: EClinical Works is one of the best Billing Softwares the tracking mechanisms for claims are second to none and the ability to interface with labs and other Softwares helps to make the doctor's office run a lot smoother.

Cons: The tech support is horrible and the software goes offline often and the price

Pros: eClinicalWorks is very intuitive and easy to use. Overall, it is an excellent EMR and PM software product that is full of the latest EMR features, which makes seeing patients and running a medical practice highly efficient. The customization and interface capabilities have also been a big bonus with eCW. It is also great value for the cost. In our 10 years on eCW, we have never had a price increase for our annual maintenance costs, and over that time frame, eCW even added 24x7 support at no extra cost (even for routine tech support issues). Also, none of our three lab interfaces or two radiology interfaces have cost us a dime. Additionally, eCW has been great at keeping up with all the Meaningful Use requirements and making it easy to attest for our Meaningful Use bonus (at no extra cost to us).

Cons: There is nothing that I dislike, but if I had to list anything, it would be that eCW offers so many features and options that I could see a new user potentially being a little overwhelmed by all these capabilities, although that's not really a bad thing when you think about it.

Recommendations to other buyers: Definitely compare different EMRs for their documentation, efficiency, customization, and interface capabilities, as well as all the features they offer, and the costs for implementing and maintaining the EMR. Most likely, you will find eCW to be the top choice. I have multiple friends on other EMRs that have seen me use eCW and have told me that if changing EMRs was not so burdensome, they would definitely switch over to eCW.

Pros: What i like most is that you can do everything you need with one software: schedule, EMR and create claims. ECW can be tailored to fit individual needs.

Cons: There is not much that I do not like about ECW. I use it for scheduling and billing for a mental health office and the only problem that we have come across is that we can only select primary, secondary or tertiary for an insurance plan but for mental health we bill managed care plans which are different than medical plans.

Overall: The benefit of using ECW is that it is an all in one software: scheduling, billing and EMR.

Pros: There's very little I like. It provides the very basics for getting the patient out the door and general billing.

Cons: I have been using and developing EMR software since its inception. I even wrote my own EMR version using Microsoft Office Access in the mid-1990s. The sales pitch is not made to the clinical user who does all the input but to the back office manager who keeps regular hours, does not see patients, and does not take calls. They make a fancy pitch on how they can make the business part of the medical office run easier and can save time for the office manager. Then they charge extra for the clinical part to run easier. I used to be able to see 30 patients a day; one day I even saw 52. Now it is a real struggle to see 15. The Rx function is a real time consumer. I need to look up what I want to do in my MPR, and then, if I am lucky, translate it into ECW speak. The ICD-9 codes do not match what is commonly used in the majority of other ICD-9 descriptors. I can find a better ICD-9 description of my diagnosis using Google.

Recommendations to other buyers: The exam room is where you service the patients and address their needs. With this EMR, a clinician spends most of the time and attention on eCW and not the patient. I am of the philosophy that in the exam room, the patient deserves 100% of your attention. With this EMR, there is no way that can happen. It is only a matter of time before mistakes will be made. When looking at an EMR, a clinical provider needs to keep the patient first and foremost. Speed, efficiency, reliability, and error-free confidence are what counts.

Pros: We love the cloud product and have been using it for nearly 9 years. I have not worried about a server backup or hardware upgrade for our production system in many, many years. We enjoy exceptional uptime and lots of cool features for everything from charge capture to population health management to HCC RAF capture. We have 17,000 web enabled patients, 5,000 of whom are logging in at least once per month. This has really helped reduce phone volume and increase continuity. Many of them are using the product on their smart phones to coordinate and understand their care. The eBO product delivers interesting, customizable, and actionable reporting.

Cons: As with all EHRs, they have been in rapid cycle deployment since 2008, as dictated by the federal government. This has resulted in some bugs and some delays in clinical development while the arcane and pretentious directives of the Meaningful Use program are achieved.

Recommendations to other buyers: If I were jumping in again for primary care, I would choose eClinicalWorks again. It may be that some software is easier to use out of the box, but eClinicalWorks is agile and can be adapted to our ever-changing marketplace in a shorter time to market. For example, providers were asked to do the opposite of HCC coding when the pre-existing condition problem existed with medical insurance. Now we are asked to be very specific to support ACO and value-based payment models, and eCW can be quickly customized to achieve this goal.

Comments: The software works for some just not for us. We have had it for 3 years.

Pros: There is a lot to ECW. It may be very good for some practices. It is robust in some ways. It is easy to log into.

Cons: Just because a product/software is robust doesn't mean it is applicable to all. Very click intensive. For a new person, it is very cumbersome. Reports are the worst part. The info is simply not there. If i want ECW to create something specific, they charge and unreasonable amount.

Pros: I like that the patient's DOB is on the Account CBO screen. That's it. There is nothing else redemptive about this program.

Cons: The tech support is ridiculous. They are all based in India and are not helpful at all. Payments are never posted in the contractually obligated amount of time, payment postings are missed regularly so I have to babysit the batches to ensure that patient's accounts are posted accurately, the "team leader" (Ricarlus) is useless and continues to apologize for things they've missed, I have to track all of my tasks to make sure they get completed because they often get overlooked/missed, statements don't always go out to the patients, the list goes on and on and on......

Recommendations to other buyers: Do not use eClinicalWorks. It is by FAR the worst medical billing software I have ever used (and this is my 5th software program). Our clinic moved to a new software program this summer and I am thankful to not have to use eClinicalWorks. It is so inefficient and redundant because they don't do their jobs correctly the first time, so you are forced to double/triple check their work. I'm not sure how they are in business.

Comments: Great product and very user friendly.

Pros: eClinical Works is a very user friendly electronic medical record and billing software that can be a great asset for any physician office no matter what the specialty.

Comments: horrible product. wish I knew what I know now.

Pros: could do multiple things if worked correctly.

Cons: system always going down and no support regularly. system too difficult to navigate through. the cost is too high for the quality of the product. they charge for all features. everytime you call someone has to call back from india. no one person can assist you with all of your questions so you have to continue to have call backs for different issues. it may take months to have one problem fixed. i transitioned to the system at one year Im still having issues. Put in a help ticket...still takes weeks to have issue addressed. 400k losses later I switched back to my simple older emr. Better value. it works and customer service is in the us and available 24/7.

Pros: Appointment scheduling and work flow in general

Cons: If a new version is released and there is a bug - god help you because the company has taught employees not to commit to a time frame with customers.

Currently I am unable to edit my treatment plan section because of bug they have and it has consumed so much of my time. They would not fix it, nor would they give me time frame. Software just freezes and closes.

Pros: Customizable. Choices of software resellers with high levels of support. Resellers have the opportunity to provide practices with teams of A/R support.

Cons: May be complicated to some practices that are not experienced with how PM systems work. There are many options to customize that may not be fully understood when onboarding.

Overall: Fantastic reimbursement ability depending on customization and training of users.

Pros: Nice clean easy to use UI for appointments, prescriptions, and lab results.

Cons: I have tested the eClinicalworks web service urls on ssllabs.com. The cipher security is not exactly up to par for medical applications. First of all it does not default to the second newest version of TLS (1.1) for those who can't use TLS 1.2. Instead it skips down to TLS 1.0, a version with well known vulnerabilities to a BEAST attack. Although the BEAST vulnerability is server-side mitigated, client side vulnerabilities are still possible. Also the server is set to prefer 128 bit encryptions over 256 encryptions. I understand that 128 bit encryption of RC4 and various others only recently became deprecated. Since their web blog is talking about server side updates for the application I hope they are working to resolve those issues. But the fact they make the backwards compatibility immediately skip down to TLS 1.0 is questionable. Maybe for compatibility with external services that still rely on TLS 1.0?

Recommendations to other buyers: Just because a lock symbol shows up left of your browser's url does not automatically mean it is secure. Use ssllabs.com for any website you trust with confidential information such as banking, medical, insurance, accounting, legal etc. For those that don't understand the technical jargon behind the tests, a nice easy to read letter grade is provided to give a good glimpse of the product's quality of security. Otherwise in the mean time, avoid public Wifi hotspots when using this product. Also avoid using forms that support HTML without clearing your cookies for this product first. Also avoid questionable hyperlinks.

Comments: I can't believe it. eClinicwork does not have spelling check function like Microsoft word. An EMR program dose not recognize work Medicine!!!

Pros: Trainer or IT support called back the same day or next day. A lot of functions. Cloud based. Lot in anywhere.

Cons: In most sections, there are NOT red under line to indicate incorrect spelled words. NO right click for suggestion function. It is very frustrating for our staff and Physician assistant students. They have to use Microsoft words to type medical history and copy-paste into eclinicworks section There is NO spelling check working like microsoft word. When clicking ABC for spelling check, the program does not recognize common word, such as medicine, fax, nausea etc.

Pros: It is fast and they use a 3rd party-iTelagen for help. They are excellent but the eCW team is not responsive and difficult to communicate with.

Pros: They are constantly innovating, adding new features regularly. Online scheduling system is great because it allows patients to schedule directly without human input. It runs in any device Mac or PC and is cloud based.

Cons: They used to have a poor support team but since 2012 it has been very good and highly responsive.

Overall: It makes seeing and documenting patient data easy.

Overall: eCLINICAL works is a medical records software program that our practice has been using since 2009. We were part of a pilot program that presented us with the medical records portion as well as an interface with a billing software. We have had a few issues over the years with upgrades etc...but ecw is always very helpful in working out the "bugs" and making it smooth in these transitions.

Comments: I am part of a three-person, multispecialty group that began using eClinicalWorks as part of a package from Group 1 Health Source which provided the EMR licensing as part of its billing package. Overall a good move. The telephone messaging system works very well, allowing for preset and ad lib orders of medications, labs, and imaging. Laboratory order tracking in our office has improved markedly. The visit summary, which includes a medicine list at the end of each visit has been well received by our patients. The capacity to send a medical summary to the emergency room or not a physician, or for the patient's own records has been extremely well received. That being said, we find this program labor-intensive to begin use. Templates are somewhat difficult to develop. The viewing areas for one's HPI, medicine list, and other prose boxes for typed /pre-typed/ dictated material are very limited. I am sure that this system would provide more, but like so many of us, the time to teach yourself to excell with this program, after just learning enough to get by, is a steep order. Re: tech support, there are distinct individuals that are spot on and really know the system:they are fantastic. However the majority of the technical support is not US-based, and their most common reaction is to provide you a workaround and not a solution. We have been using the system for two years and may end up using it as part of a larger organization. Albeit I have critiques of the system, however I have heard HORROR STORIES about other systems. All things being said, I would prefer using the system again above others that I've seen and heard about.

Pros: I have not found anything that I really like or feel this software excels in.

Cons: So much clicking to get to anything and nothing is areas that make any sense. There are to may options and ways to get to the same thing. This software is clearly dated and runs on old dos based like programs. I have been doing medical work for over 15 years and sheesh this software really takes me back to software I used 8 or 9 years ago. Also listen to the reviews on the errors and freezing you will deal with it constantly. You can only do one thing at a time. You cant open multiple windows or move popups around on your screens. ECW's advice is to open multiple EWC windows at a time...I have not had to do that for years in a software. Implementation is horrible and it seems like the majority of the staff at ECW is all foreign and/or overseas. It is so hard to understand anyone. Training was terrible and just created more questions, no workflow was trained or set up. Trainer bounced all over the place. Also once you are completed with the nightmare of the implementation you have little resources for communication, it is either open a case or IM chat with someone. You cant actually call anyone for help. Product is WAY over sold on the front end and does not have the goods to deliver on the back end.

Recommendations to other buyers: Listen to the bad reviews of others. Ask IT personnel if they know of good up-to-date user friendly systems. There is defiantly better options out there to choose from.

Pros: Nothing. From top to bottom, I've found nothing that makes this a better choice for me than what else is out there.

Cons: We acquired a practice that had eCW and liked it more than the EMR system we had at the time. We had just moved off of paper charts a year earlier and were looking for an EMR that would help our workflow. Although the initial onboarding cost of eCW was relatively low, there were many hidden costs. It cost extra to pull reporting data or to include specifics we were looking for in those reports. This software is extremely basic before spending a lot of money to customize it. Adding a provider to the system is also pretty expensive. We also found out that eCW does not submit all ICD-9s that are listed on the encounter. We had to request this to be added onto our system. This caused a significant revenue reduction for our Medicare Advantage programs. If you are unfamiliar with Meaningful Use Attestation, they can help you, but they charge per hour to teach you how to do it. Training costs are extremely expensive.

Recommendations to other buyers: Be careful. Although the initial cost of is low, expect to spend a considerable amount of money to get it up to par. Pay attention as to how to make templates.

Comments: High level practice manage system for large practices.

Pros: This software has a wide range of options for medical practices. There are many functions available. Support always follows up on any tickets/issues.

Cons: Can't always understand the customer service reps or techs due to a language barrier and I feel rude always asking them to repeat themselves.

Pros: eClinicalWorks has a great format and is very user-friendly. Our practice escribes alot of prescription so the unlimited flat price is great, too.

Cons: So far, there are no big cons for eClinical. It would be nice to add a messaging feature instead of an email system to send messages.

Vendor Response

Hi Tracy, thank you for your review! Great to hear that your experience with eClinicalWorks has been good for your practice. I noticed you mentioned a messaging feature so I'm curious if you're using Messenger today to contact your patients by text, phone, and email. If you'd like to learn more about eClinicalWorks Messenger, we have some resources on our eCW users blog you might find helpful http://www.grouponehealthsource.com/eclinicalworks-users-blog

Pros: It has a lot of functionality that you rarely use for a solo practitioner, and if you want to use it, you will have to pay extra. And by the time you need to use it again, you will not remember how to use it, because it is not user-friendly.

Cons: All support techs are Indian with strong accents, so they have to repeat everything multiple times to understand them. They charge for extra services, and their support will not include helping you to reinstall a fax or a server if you happen to change the machine! They refused to give me instruction and insisted that I have to pay above and beyond what I pay for the yearly support. They will not resolve multiple problems or issues with one call; they will either charge extra or you have to make an online ticket for one problem at a time. The system is very complex, and there is no one person that knows all of its function. I was not told that they have these extra charges when I purchased the system.

Recommendations to other buyers: Get a simple and reasonably priced EHR that they will not nickel and dime you to death. Talk to their support, and see if you can understand them.

I work with ECW in health records and for the most part I find it to be a wonderful source.

Pros: It is broad and offers many features such as billing, patient scheduling and appointments, referrals, medical records of all patients charts, and is set up nicely.

Cons: It is complicated at times and there is a lot to it, so much that it can take years to be comfortable using it.

Overall: I work with it so I need it for my job.

Pros: Task system, marking documents, and workflow are all very intuitive and laid out nicely for you on the screen.

Cons: They recently got sued for inaccurate medical records which I believe they have fixed thus far. Reporting is a little wonky too, but once you learn the software then it works well.

ECW is my biggest professional regret!

Comments: Horrible support. Absolutely worthless training (our trainer, who we had to put up in a hotel and pay all travel costs for, even said "I don't know why they sent me...I'm not ready for this"). They jack up the price after you are "in" and it is, like all EMRs, quite difficult to get "out". CLUCKY CLUNKY CLUNKY software based on MSQL. My practice used Athena previously which runs on Oracle platform and Athena is a far far superior product from a back office perspective, but I was not happy with the EMR they integrated so I looked for an alternative and made the mistake of reading the reviews of ECW that I am certain now were bought and paid for. Huge error in judgment. My office staff loved Athena and hates ECW. If only Athena had possessed an attractive EMR I would have stayed and now I regret not adapting to their EMR. ECW requires huge bandwidth to use ASP model - and still slow even with fiberoptic fastest service Verizon offers. FREEZES chronically. Completely non-intuitive. Hate it. Loses typed in data on a regular basis and you have to start over. Worst decision of my professional life. Absolutely regret the day I got sucked in to this POS. I am going to be looking into Modernizing Medicine EMR but I will be more cautious this time. Makes me want to quit medicine.

Pros: Fairly easy to use but customer support is useless.

Cons: They have no way of verifying users so if you call them with a problem, they cannot help you unless you are the administrator. They suggested filing a case which I cannot do because, you got, I am not an administrator. The is the first support team I have called in 7 years of practice, who actually cannot provide any support.

Recommendations to other buyers: Find a way to verify users. As a physician, I am at work more often than practice administrators which means sometimes I need help when the administrator is not here. Your company has a stupid policy requiring verification only by administrators, you need to be able to verify users as well because sometimes people are just not in the office and those who are here need to get work done

Comments: For a practice where you have a third party biller this is an amazing software. It is so nice to be able to pull progress notes, review charts, see scanned card copies. It makes billing so much easier when you have access to the patients chart!

Pros: That you can get to everything from one place or platform! I love that everything we need is all in one location.

Cons: That you have to use multiple different systems to get different reports like front end rejections. I prefer to have that all in one place.

Pros: I love that the software continues to innovate and improve yearly. The software allow our office to spend less time calling patients to confirm appointments, giving normal lab result calls, and letting patient know we sent their prescriptions. It allows us to review patient chart in a instance and chart quickly.

Cons: The call center staff sometimes has a heavy accent and its hard to understand them.

Recommendations to other buyers: Great software for private practice. it gives us everything we need.
