January 25, 2019 5.0 Positively rewarding and motivating students Pros Class Dojo is like a teacher's digital classroom management assistant! There's lots to love! - First, it's free. Who doesn't like free? - Next, it's extremely user-friendly. Within 15 minutes you can set-up and learn to navigate the features and layout. In just 5 more minutes, you can roll it out to your classroom. Teacher's are already lacking time, and the simplicity of this platform is wonderful. - It's versatile! You can use it systematically as an everyday part of your lesson - managing and tracking behavior and learning data or you can use it for a much less intensive purpose like tracking time, adding audio cues for your students, keeping a scoreboard during a game, etc. - Parents can link with their students to learn more. This creates a paperless communication system between the student and home. - They've recently added a digital portfolio piece for students. I'm still new and exploring, but this looks to be a powerful addition that students/teachers could use for creating and sharing assignments (reducing paper). It seems to also have built-in features (activities), too. Excited to learn more! - Last but not least, I suppose my favorite, yet simple, reason I love ClassDojo is that it just reminds me to be positive. I can focus on the positive I see in students and reward and reinforce their positive behavior. Cons This is not a con to ClassDojo, but just an observation - ClassDojo will not solve all of your classroom management issues. It is not a quick, easy fix, so don't view it that way. You have to carefully consider usage if you want this to be a main ingredient in your classroom. In that train of thought, it could cause students to act even more negatively because they're now able to gain a bigger audience and receive more attention. It’s a great app for classrooms and sports teams alike. I had even used it in past summer art programs. The parents love that the chat feature is similar to texting directly and I love that I can get messages quickly without sharing my phone number. Pros It is the easiest and quickest way to communicate with parents and families while still maintaining your privacy as a teacher and not sharing your own phone number on social media contact. I also love the ability to post pictures and videos showing parents what goes on in our classroom on a daily basis. Cons Honestly there isn’t much that I don’t like, it has been an amazing communication tool with students and families and also a great way to award student behavior! It does allow some student functions and private chat features that are imperative to have these days. This platform would not work so well for older students in my opinion and didn't really seem to go above and beyond for a desired long-term communication use. Pros I mostly like ClassDojo because my daughter enjoys it. She can't wait to come home from school to see my reaction to any pictures, bulletins or teacher comments. This platform also appeals to my daughter because it allows for her to personally custom a cute avatar as her icon. I like any educational tool that gets my child excited to use it and excited to perform in an exemplary manner at school. Cons I least liked ClassDojo's limited functions for non paying users. It doesn't really seem warranted to put money into something that would not deliver premium features. Saving pictures was also another issue that made me less interested in this software. At the end of a school year all student pictures aren't accessible without saving them previously or without a pay account. Review Source DS Danielle S. Features are awesome for busy parents and teachers. Pros My kids have used ClassDojo since kindergarten (a total of 5 years). I appreciate that ClassDojo is geared towards parent but Kids seem to love it as well. With the app you can chat privately with multiple teachers. You also has a class feed where you can see all of the activities/pictures the teacher has uploaded. The class feed really brings the parents together! I love how there is a point system as well. This feature really helped my son with some behavioral issues in 1st grade. Cons My only complaint with Class Dojo is that there is a upgraded version you can pay for. I believe with it being an educational app the school recommends they should maybe cover the cost. It's one of the best programs that I have ever used as a teacher. It helps parents and teachers to stay in contact throughout the day. It helps motivate students to work to their full potential. Pros ClassDojo is one of the best software teachers have available for their classrooms. Every school district should have this integrated. I like most that I can keep parents informed about their students throughout the day. I love that I can upload pictures of the students working on assignments. I have noticed that parents love being able to see what we are doing for the day. I also like that parents can participate by giving their children points for doing activities around the house. It does not have to be things for school but things like going to bed, cleaning up toys, or eating dinner. Cons Absolutely nothing. I can not think of one negative thing to say about ClassDojo. Pros I like that in ClassDojo my sons teacher has the ability to message myself and their mother at that same time and we can have a group chat. We get information about homework, classwork, and any issues that are arising at school. We get messages from the principal and support staff too about school events and the level of communication is unmatched. We were using a couple of other apps previously and they don't compare with the ease of use of ClassDojo. The kids even get their own user interface and experience. My children are too young for this feature but not for long. Cons There is a free version, which we use currently but getting setup can be challenging especially when the teacher doesn't share the correct codes.. You can't just type the teachers name to get added you have to have their invite code. It's good for security but somewhat inconvenient. Review Source JT Jennifer T. Cons Notifications are sometimes overwhelming when the weekly updates all come through at once. But this is more of an issue with the person sending out the info all at once. Teacher Education Management Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Great Source for Classroom Management" November 7, 2021 5.0 Overall, I like this program because it's customizable, it captures my students' attention, it allows me to reward my students and give them a consequence, and it's a way to communicate with parents. It's an all-in-one program/app. I like that I can also display it on my projector screen through my computer so that my students can listen for the "ding" of points/point removal and see their characters. I also like that parents receive notifications for specifics of what their child did well/poorly on behavior-wise. For example, if I set up one of my behavior categories to say, "Following Directions," and then take away points from a student, parents can see that that is a skill their child needs to work on behaviorally at school. I also like being able to set a class goal for the students to try for. (i.e.: When we reach 10,000 Class Dojo points, we can have a class pizza party.) Earning ClassDojo points is a huge student incentive. Pros The students like getting to customize their individual characters at home, and as a teacher, I like using this software on both my computer and phone (app) to provide discipline (both negative and positive). I can award students points, or take Dojo points away for bad behavior. Cons I wish I had to ability to add parents' numbers to the program (sign them up myself) like I can through the Remind software program. Reason for choosing ClassDojo Class Dojo is more engaging and provides instant messages to parents who are signed up for it to see how their child is behaving in the classroom. If my child was falling behind or missing an assignment, I could immediately fix the problem. I was able to log on any time I'd like and know how my child was doing. The direct communication with the teacher is a plus as well. Pros I not only like the direct contact between parent and teacher, but I like that you can send encouraging words and pictures to your child. Mine loved the little remarks of encouragement. I went through the app and there was not much to it, I could see pictures of daily class duties. I could leave a comment on posts and could see an alert when another parent liked or added a comment to the same post. I would leave rep messages when my phone was off or to change my son's transportation home from bus to car or vice versa. This function was helpful as long as she was in class or near her phone. One time I left her a message and she didn't check it and respond until two days later. I could see his daily progress, whether his color changed for bad behavior. Cons I had no problems with the app's functions. I wish it had mini games or some sort of activities for the kids to complete, but it was OK.
