Pros I used ClassDojo to measure participation/behavior in class. It gave a clear metric to each student, and helped me identify students that were not engaged. I can’t imagine teaching virtually without it!! Pros This is an extremely easy way to maintain communication with parents . You can send individual or whole group class messages and pictures. Furthermore, multiple teachers can interact with your homeroom. Elementary teachers can use it for discipline by taking and adding dojo’s, but I just use it for communication, and it is so handy. You can even set time frames that parents can and can not send you messages! Pros What I like most about Class Dojo is the easy and speed of use. This program allows me to view in real time my children's grade and attendance. Cons What I like least about Class Dojo is that it took over a year to get a change in one of my children's person information. Students can here the sound that goes along with positive reinforcement, so as soon as one student earns a dojo, everyone quickly adjusts their behavior so that they can earn points, too. It allows me to address behaviors wherever we are in the building or even on a field trip. Currently with distance learning, I can give dojos to students who are completing their work on time, too! Pros I can make my own categories for positive and negative feedback. It also allows parents to see why their child earned or lost points throughout the day. Cons I allow my students to "shop" with their Dojo points, so I wish I could deduct larger amounts of points at one time. For example, if my student spends 200 dojos, I can only deduct 20 at a time. I love the fact that I can easily navigate the software and can communicate with my children's teacher via the app on my phone. They also keep us updated on school related notices. My children also have their own class dojo account and they can tell when they are doing a good job because they receive points from the teachers and parents. I use it as a positive rewards system, to communicate with students and families, build community, and teach social/emotional learning and mindfulness. One of the things I love most about ClassDojo is that parents/families connect and can see all the wonderful things going on at school. The interface is fun and exciting for the students. And it is so easy to use. Best of all, because of it's popularity, there are so many resources out there to accompany class dojo. We now use points as currency for our end of year "Market Day!" Students earn points for good behavior and lose points for poor behavior. Their number of points equals how many dollars they have to spend at the market and its great to see the quiet, well-behaved kids so excited that they are now the "richest!" Pros I love that it's an app that I can carry around all day on my phone or ipad. It's immediate and keeps track of points for you! Class Dojo is customizable for any and all needs of classroom or child. Cons I really don't know that I would change anything about it! Pros ClassDoJo is aces in my book because it helps keep me connected to my kiddos at school. I am a parent-user and I couldn't be happier with the communication it fosters between my student's teacher and myself. The fact that it is used as a positive reinforcement tool, has prompted great conversations with my kiddos. I am able to reference why they earned a point, or why a point was taken away. The message feature allows for private messages between myself and the teacher, as well as group messages. It has been great as a reminder of those dress-up days the morning of! As a working parent I want to be connected to my children as best I can and this helps me do just that. Cons During distance learning my kiddo's teachers would use the class code option regarding assignments and such, I'm not really sure how it worked in their end, but on my end it was a bit of a hassle as there was a time limit and I couldn't always get to it within the allotted timeframe. It helps me to see my kids progress and their overall performances. Its a easy way to communicate with class teachers. Both parents and students have their own portal and you can sync your kids portal with your parent portal. Teachers share class activity pictures and other announcements which is awesome. Cons I felt its little confusing when you send a message to the teacher . I wasn't sure whether I'm sending message to the whole parents group or its a individual message. I love using the app from both angles. It helps me stay connected to my child's teacher and him while he's away. My son's teacher used this app during his first year at school, which was also my first year as a teacher at a different school. I missed a lot of activities because I had to work, but this app made me feel like I didn't miss a beat. I liked the app so much, that I started using it with my own classes. I noticed that I could get in contact with parents faster with class dojo than with phone calls throughout the day. ClassDojo helps me get to know more about the kids and their families. Pros I like how this software is being use by teachers to communicate with parents. I was introduced to this software last year by my son’s first grade teacher. I love how the teacher is able to send videos and photos of the class. As a parent I can comment on the pictures and videos or also just like them. Cons I am very satisfied with ClassDojo, I wish all teachers could choose this software over others. This has been one of the best programs I've been able to use to stay tapped in to my children's educational experiences. Pros I love that I'm able to get real-time posts from my children's instructors, with pictures of them participating in activities in the classroom or on field trips. As a parent of younger children, this feels especially important to me to be in touch, since they are still developing effective communication skills. It also has a direct messaging feature so that I can communicate one-on-one with their instructors. Cons While I feel that the general "Series" reminders are thoughtful and well written, as a full time working mom, I don't often have time to give them much notice, so they become more like junk mail to me. Pros It's really easy for my children's teacher to share information with me in a secure way. I can like and comment on stories that are shared with me, I can message the teacher privately. As a parent I have my own profile as a parent and the children have their own profiles as students so that they can get involved and engage too. Teachers can give dojo points for good behaviour and if you choose to pay for a subscription parents can reward children with dojo points too. July 16, 2019 5.0 Pros So I used to have two stepsons, I was the one in charge of contacting teachers and keeping in touch with the school for them. When my older one went into second grade, his teacher asked me to download class dojo. I gotta tell you - this was a game changer! So easy to get in touch with his teacher, and stay on top of his progress/issues. I was able to actually see his work, and I always knew when he had homework so he couldn't get out of it! Every parent should use DOJO along with their children's teachers!! I gotta say though - I'm so glad my parent's didn't have this when I was a kid!! April 26, 2022 4.0 Pros I truly enjoy using ClassDojo for all of the Toolkit features it has. I use the Random Student Generator, the Timer, and the Noise Meter almost daily. The kids love to be able to visually see how much time is left until we are moving on to the next thing. It really helps them to stay focused and complete their assignment. I enjoy using the Noise Meter, because it definitely helps keep the volume down in my classroom. I don't use the Random Student Generator that often, but when I do it is much easier than pulling out my popsicle sticks with names on them:) Overall the tools available are fun to use and user friendly. Cons With the features I use, I don't have any complaints. I did choose not to use the discipline/behavior part of ClassDojo. April 1, 2021 5.0 I fell in love with this App since I discovered and I have been a faithful user since 2015. I recommend it to my academic staff.. I even use it at home with my children. I do not take out points because I focus on rewarding the positive behavior and I do not invite parents. I integrate this app in my classes to add a positive atmosphere. Pros This software add colour and tons of fun to my classes. Students from all ages love it and I always dedicate some time to ask students to choose their avatar. This makes everyone smile, even the shy students enjoy this process. I love the timer and the randomize option of choosing participants. It makes the selection of students easy and objective. Cons I use the random button a lot in my classes, but sometimes one of my students has stepped out of class and if his/her name appear and I have to close the window to choose another student, the selection starts aver again. In this case, it is possible that a student that was chosen before will be chosen again before everyone had a chance to do so. I work my way around this by creating a rewarding category of 0 points so the system will not start over if the student is unable to answer at the moment. Another thing I would recommend is a new category of avatars more suitable to secondary students. Although, I must admit, most of them still like the Monster option that is available. The newsfeed was simply laid out and easy to use. It was so helpful to message my child's teacher during the school day with anything I needed them to know. The teacher always had this software open, so they would get notifications immediately. Pros My favorite part of this software was getting to see pictures of my child throughout the school day. Parent Primary/Secondary Education Used the software for: 2+ years ### "No email notifications for app users" September 27, 2023 3.0 Not responsive to user needs Pros Child privacy is protected because photos can be shared, but not downloaded. Cons There is NO option for email notifications if you use the app. App users get push notifications and if you log out of the app, you will receive email notifications (access through web browser). I receive a gazillion push notifications daily and miss most of them; this is not a reliable way to communicate to parents. ALSO, this limitation is not clearly articulated anywhere on the platform. When I have used the app, I have missed crucial information from my child’s teacher. I asked ClassDojo tech support for email notifications to be added to this system in 2017 and it still has not been done. To make it worse, last month (Aug 2023), they released an update to force users to switch to the app and no longer use the web browser (no ‘X’ on the pop up to download the app from the web browser), which meant no more email notifications. After I complained, they reverted the update to still allow web browser use. Review Source Josh C.
