The transition from the previous EHR appears to have been, at best, only 50% complete. As we continue using the new system, additional data migration and functionality issues are being identified on an almost daily basis. As a result, I am spending an average of 10-15 additional minutes working up each patient compared to our previous EHR. Overall, this has increased the average patient visit from approximately 30-45 minutes to one hour or more, significantly impacting workflow, efficiency, and the overall patient experience.

Pros

After nearly a year of use, I'm still not ready to make a final judgment. There are enough ongoing issues that I'm waiting to see if things improve before deciding.

Cons

Exams and appointments dated prior to June 2025 are not present in the system. The Exam History (Recent) section may indicate that an encounter was transferred; however, it is not labeled as a Previous Software Encounter, and selecting the encoutner displays no information. Several entries in Exam History (Recent) are also mislabeled, for example, visits listed as Comprehensive Exam that were actually Red Eye visits. Contact lens prescriptions appear to have transferred for the OD only. Additionally, eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions that were finalized but not purchased through our office did not transfer.

Customer service is decent, it’s easy to access in any computer with Internet access, and it’s inexpensive

Pros

It’s not that user friendly or as seamless as other EMR systems. I do like how it is accessible through the internet, however.

Cons

It’s a little nuanced. The platform for creating medical records is not as simple, especially when building the database for your office

I think the value is great and it’s a very secure site. It’s extremely easy to bill insurance and also communicate what’s needed to patient’s. The customer support is also very easy to work with.

Pros

I love that the site is so fast and easy to use. It makes it easy to manage scheduling and everything we need about patients. It’s the best site for optical practice!

Cons

The only thing I don’t like is sometimes it can be slow but most of the time it works great! I love that it’s beginner friendly.

Very good! User-friendly system helps new staff members transition smoothly. Our daily interaction with our biller is the highlight!

Pros

The staff at the Eye Center of the Dakotas would like to give a shout-out to our amazing RevCycle biller, \[sensitive content hidden\] ! Many thanks for the wonderful person she is and the great work she does to keep us running smoothly with all things billing. We saw the opportunity to send a story or share, but weren't sure how to respond. Hoping this gets to where it needs to go!

Cons

Really no concerns other than the occasional downtime when the system fails. Pop-up windows that appear in the upper right corner frequently cover other info, a bit cumbersome to navigate.

RevolutionEHR has been and remains the best overall EHR for optometry. And best of all, it just keeps getting better year after year!

Pros

The workflows are common sense and were clearly designed by people with real world clinical experience. The interface adapts flawlessly to the many different screen shapes and sizes used and in and out of clinic. The integrations with RevIntake and RevPayments save tremendous staff time and headaches as well as improve patient experience. And best of all, it just keeps getting better year after year!

Cons

Frequent downtime throughout 2025, however those issues appear to be fixed now with their migration to a more stable AWS server.

Our overall experience with RevolutionEHR is super positive! It makes scheduling, charting, contact and glasses ordering, finances, and pretty much everything in our office super simple and organized!

Pros

Revolution EHR keeps our orders for glasses and contact lenses very organized, making it easy to refer back to old orders if need be. There are options for notes, measurements, tracking numbers, shipping locations, and so much more! Additionally, RevEHR allows me to easily keep track of all the glasses we have in stock and what we have sold recently. This is extremely useful for ordering new stock when reps visit the office. Optical operations run smoothly in our office because of Rev!

Cons

The only thing I don't love in Rev is that I cannot add some of the glasses option drop downs without using the "change" button. That is only frustrating because then I have to mark the charges again as non-billable.

RevEHR has been a great asset to our optometry practice. The system is easy to use and designed in a way that supports efficient eye exams, clear documentation, and smooth daily workflows. It has helped our team stay organized and spend more time focusing on patient care rather than administrative tasks. Their support team is responsive and knowledgeable, making the overall experience very positive. We’re happy to partner with RevEHR and would recommend it to other optometry practices.

Pros

Optometry-Specific Logic: Because it was built specifically for eye care, the exam flow feels natural. It doesn't feel like a "repurposed" general medical EHR.

Cons

The "Click" Factor: It is notoriously "click-heavy." Moving from one section of an exam to another often requires multiple clicks, which can feel tedious during a busy clinic day.
