### "Our company has been using EMA since 2012 and it has grown since "

Pros

Ease of use of the software, also the company always has webinars for new improvements that come out quarterly.

Cons

sometimes the whole server may go down and take longer than expected to come back up. This takes time away from the company to put in charges .

### "Pros and Cons"

Overall, Mod Med doesn't work great for the cosmetic side of our practice. Derm has had better results, but it is not well designed for cosmetic patients that pay at their visit.

Pros

There are many things I like- it is very intuitive and easy to use, and when you do get stuck, there is a help button that actually works pretty well.

Cons

My least favorite thing is how clunky it is. It takes way too many steps to complete any simple task. It doesn't save your place either, so you often have to start all over when jumping around from place to place in the software.

We are an office that is hard to please when it comes to software, or working with business associates. We want as close to perfection and you can possibly get and don't accept anything less. That is what we have with Modernizing Medicine. We are a high volume dermatology practice of 7 providers. The system we used to use had many issues with it. I was constantly on the phone with their support, that is - when I could get in touch with them. They made promises that rarely were kept. From day one that we started using Modernizing Medicine, we have had a great relationship. The software itself has saved all 7 of our providers so much time. It has made it possible for them to see more patients through out the day and complete notes quicker. What used to take weeks to finalize notes can now be done the same day. It is also very user friendly. We started with Modernizing Medicine approximately 2 years ago. The training was great. We were assigned certain trainers that worked with us until we were ready to go live. They led us through every step and still do. We also like that they are in constant contact with us for updates and anything new with the company or the software itself. The support staff are top notch. Any time we have had questions they were right on it. Very friendly and professional. I would highly recommend this company!

A fairly nice EHR. Great summarization of encounter screen and a nice portal that allows patients to input some medical history that populates to the exam. The system organizes the data nicely. The opening screen gives great overviews & makes it easy to see previous encounters. The system is very intuitive & easy to use. The chief complaints are easy to input & the questions asked during HPI relate to the specific chief complaint only. This EHR system has 3 major flaws however: (1) It is unable to load all the previous exam findings (for example previous CD findings will not load) (2) Exam data is often deleted & has to be re-entered even when saved. For example if you are performing a post-op exam on the right eye & save your exam but then later go back & try to enter data for the left eye, the entire exam must be re-entered & repeated. The same is true if you start off doing a non-dilated exam & decide to dilate....then the entire anterior segment exam must be repeated. Most users avoid this by not entering data from the exam screen but instead doing it from the diagnosis/impression screen but of course this would create an incomplete record (it does not have retinal findings like CD included in the exam notes). If they could fix these 2 problems the software could be great!

I am the front office supervisor for a large dermatology practice, which went live with Modernizing Medicine EMR on October 1, 2012. We have 3 locations and the implementation took about 6 weeks with online webinars for all staff, especially the Medical assistants and providers. We do have super users, which are the clinical manager and providers, who had one on one training sessions. Modernizing medicine sent trainers when we went live, which was a great help. Our providers brought the trainers back a few months into EMA to help further the front office and back office with any loose ends. The support has been very good and the turn around is very efficient. The front office has found our messages are turned around at a much faster rate without charts! The patient gets their answers at a faster pace, and over all it works well. The system is user friendly and very easy to teach. This has been the only EMR system we have implemented, and it being Dermatology specific is wonderful. I highly recommend Modernizing Medicine because we have a different practice management system and we can operate both of them very well together. The benefit of going paperless is amazing and streamlines the front and back office to work together for quality patient care.

### "RN using the dermatology application since 9/2012"

Pros

Great dermatology software. Customer support is very quick and responsive

Cons

Prescription refills are cumbersome to navigate. It is frustrating that they do not show in the patients chart if you ok a RF from the refill tab. Also there is no way to order tests without creating an office visit. It is often that our nursing staff is ordering tests for pts over the phone and we have no way of doing this in EMA, but must "old school" it and write out lab orders by hand.

### "Excellent specialty specific EMR "

July 27, 2016

4.5

Pros

Company is very responsive when I want to add a procedure. The will build it if on ask for it. The product is specialty specific. The documents makes sense, look like a note I would dictate instead of a bunch of meaningless data. It codes my visits and procedures flawlessly. It is iPad based and I can finish my notes at home or document a patient call at home easily.

Cons

Although fairly intuitive it does have a learning curve. I feel this is true with any EMR.

### "Smoothest EMR for Derm"

February 1, 2019

5.0

Pros

This is the most intuitive EMR software I’ve ever used. It is incredibly well designed. It cuts down on charting time considerably, however still produces a very detailed chart. Game changer!

Cons

The only downside to this product is the overall cost. It is considerably more - over double when compared to their competitors. Like driving a BMW versus a Ford though, you get what you pay for.

Pros

The software is well-designed across all platforms (ipad or web). Highly intuitive and highly customizable. The software learns the provider's most commonly used diagnosis codes and plans and puts them at the top for easy selection. Extremely accurate billing and coding conversion that integrates well with our Practice management system.

Cons

Nothing really, but would like to see more functionality on the scheduler.

### "Modernizing Medicine's EMA software"

March 9, 2015

4.0

Pros

EMA is easy to start-up and get rolling with. It doesn't require a lot of additional hardware purchasing. The initial training is thorough and flexible based on the client's schedule. EMA's support is prompt, and they have a user-friendly website which is continually updated and contains videos and tips to help in the learning process, including tips for meaningful use and PQRS along with videos regarding software updates.

Cons

In the year we have used EMA, there has been minor issues, which can be expected with any software program, but nothing major enough to list.

I am part of a large single specialty dermatology group. External pressures to adopt an electronic medical record, and internal pressures such as wanting to increase our charting efficiency, lead us to consider moving beyond our paper charts. We had looked at several EMR's, but was frustrated by the inability to customize the products. A more glaring problem was that most of these programs could not have been written with dermatology diagnoses or work flow in mind. Electronic Medical Assistance by Modernizing Medicine was a breath of fresh air. From the very beginning I found the system intuitive to use. Additionally, our staff quickly learned how to use EMA. My charting speed has improved tremendously. I estimate that I am spending 1-1 1/2 hours less time charting per workday. As with any type of technology, there are glitches. I have found the customer support to be responsive. What has impressed me more about Modernizing Medicine is that there are frequent updates to the product. It seems that customer requests for innovations and additions to the software are taken very seriously.

Our office was still using paper charts before converting to EMA. We put a lot of time and energy into researching different electronic health records before making a decision. We needed something user friendly and Dermatology specific. It was a no brainer!!!! EMA or M2 was hands down the best choice for our practice. The implementation was smooth and the company's staff was so helpful. They even came to our practice and helped with the training. The sandbox they set up as a test site ahead of go live date is super helpful and still helps with the training of new employees. We have only been using EMA since October 2012 but it is like second nature to the staff and providers. There have been several updates since we started, but there is always videos and support to help us along the way. With any new EHR there are bumps and obstacles to overcome, but I believe EMA is one of the easiest transitions out there. You hear horror stories about companies who have been using their EHR for over a year and still can't get it. Definately not the case with us. Overall I am very happy with EMA-M2!!!!!

Pros

The EMA system is intuitive, the analytics are pretty robust and the PM system is easy to learn.

It was the best fit for our sub-specialty of Otology.

### "EMA Review"

December 8, 2014

1.0

Pros

At this point, there is nothing to like. The next answer will explain. I would not recommend this system. The price is right, but they are unable to get us online and functional. Apparently, the programmers are not able to find a way to make the data conversion from another major company's database functional, even though they have hired a third party to make it work. Further, the communication between us and the various entities involved is impossible.

Cons

We signed a contract with the company to provide EMR services to our practice on May 29, 2014. Unfortunately, it is now December and they have been unable to complete the data conversion from our old system, and we are not yet live. We received assurances throughout July, August, and September that we were almost there, but we are not able to use the system at this time.

### "Great product with poor customer service"

January 20, 2015

3.5

Pros

EMA is very intuitive. The software is logical and makes for efficient documentation throughout a busy work day. I really like how EMA is able to track tissue and biopsy results.

Cons

In my experience, the customer service has been lacking. Although the online training is very thorough, the knowledge and understanding of product features by the different trainers varies widely. I often get a different answer from different trainers on how the software operates. I also had an experience where I updated my credit card information for billing, and then a week, I later received a notice that my card was denied. I tried to notify the billing department they had charged the wrong (old) card on four different occasions without success. The issue was finally straightened out with a lot of persistence but was not convenient.

Gwinnett Dermatology provides medical, surgical and aesthetic dermatologic services to our patients. Up until October 1, 2012, we were solely using paper charts. The medical assistants and providers went through a 6-8 week training course which included watching training videos and hands-on practice sessions. The transition from paper chart to EMA went slowly, but as well as expected. We are not totally paperless but close to it. There are periodic updates which provide enhancements as well as improved ways of using EMA. Though with some of the updates, other tools, or previous things in EMA are affected. Customer support is awesome with answering questions, promptness in turn around for support, and returning phone calls. EMA definitely has made a difference in our practice with quality of patient care, and ensuring that this is accomplished in a timely and acceptable manner. Changes are not always welcomed, but after making the change and adapting, comes a sigh of relief and gratitude that it was done! Thank you Modernizing Medicine!

I run the Pathology Lab and supervise 10-12 Medical Assistants at a busy 9 provider dermatology practice. We process 600-700 biopsies per month. Transitioning from paper charts to EMA has significantly improved our ability to monitor and track patients who need follow-up treatment when their pathology results are positive. EMA automatically puts the cancer biopsy results into the patient's Cancer Log, helping the provider tell at-a-glance whether the patient needs follow-up treatment. Our cancer patient tracking takes only 25% of the time we used to dedicate to our manual paper chart cancer tracking process. EMA is helping us meet our goal of 100% follow-up treatment, making it much easier to ensure no patient falls through the cracks of an inefficient paper process. EMA's Customer Support personnel are superb - it is a pleasure to speak with them and I know my issue will be resolved in a timely fashion. I can't imagine going back to the old way of doing things.

I am an aging solo dermatologist, and frequently over the past 2 years I have told patients that I now know how the dinosaurs felt as they were being phased out. In my attempt to adapt to the changing healthcare climate, I chose EMA largely on the recommendations of Inga Ellzey. I went live in August of 2011 and have struggled with implementation, intuitively knowing that the system should be easier to operate than what I was experiencing. I would spend my lunch hour completing the morning charts and then 1-2 hours later, following my last patient, completing and tweeking my notes - and I was seeing fewer patient. At the end of May 2013 I attended the live seminar hosted by Modernizing Medicine. Armed with the suggestions and advice given by the speakers and technicians, I have cut my documentation time by about 70% which is amazing. I am having fun again as opposed to always feeling as if I was being tortured. Thanks!

### "EMA Review"

July 17, 2014

3.5

Pros

I like the prompts that are available for the chief complaints and the diagnoses. The most-used Rx for each diagnosis is nice, as it reduces the amount of searching we have to do. I also like the electronic Rx function and the fax doctor function for referrals. Overall, this is very easy to learn and maneuver.

Cons

I do not like that the things that we are required to do are not readily available on the main screen of the iPad. In fact, putting in PCP or referring doctor is not even available on the iPad anywhere. It is easy to do the things that we are required to do for meaningful use, like vitals, when they are not on the main screen of the iPad since this is the device we use most frequently.

### "Modernizing Medicine Meets all of our needs."

February 5, 2015

4.5

Pros

The vendor has a knowledgeable group of employees who are schooled in the specialty they promote and train with. The customer service and advice on the technical side of Ophthalmology is wonderful. The product is easy to learn and follow. The web training worked perfectly in our schedule. There are plenty of review videos and training videos to see. The program is constantly being upgraded to meet the needs of the physicians based on requests made. Meaningful Use was relatively painless because of the technical work and training that this vendor took to create.

Cons

From a management perspective I have no complaints. Perhaps the billing department could use a little attention.
