Pros The software is reliable and efficient. Everything a construction company need from AP, AR, Payroll, banking and of course all job related needs. Cons Need more worker's compensation audit information. example: On the worker's comp. report it would be wonderful if the gross wages were broken into regular pay and overtime pay instead of total $ for both. Controller Construction Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Designed for construction" April 16, 2019 5.0 We are able to get more personnel involved in job progress by allowing them to view and print job reports. By using the password function, which can be tailored by user, this is a very safe way to get project managers more involved with less thumbing through the large paper job files. Pros This software was developed to track and control job costs, bill customers easily and efficiently, and it does a wonderful job of that. This is not an accounting package with a "job" package tacked on, which makes a huge difference. Entering payroll and payables updates job costs at the point of entry so no duplication of effort. Payroll entry, for example, updates the employee ledger, tax reporting, workers compensation, job cost, pre-tax reporting and more. The reporting is huge, with over 100 predesigned reports and the option to design custom reports as well. Everyone who is doing data entry appreciates the ability to use the keyboard to navigate through the fields and forms instead of having to move between the keyboard and the mouse. Cons There is not much I don't really like about this software. I have a difficult time navigating through the custom report setup, but others at the company find it easy to use. Just to let you know, at last count, there are almost 4,000 system reports available depending on the modules and criteria chosen. The vendor always returns phone calls quickly and are extremely pleasant and helpful. Their customer service is the best part of the program. Cons This seems to be a small software company. While their customer service is great, I find the program lacking some technology in areas. Paycheck stubs don't reveal all information like prevailing wage hours vs. regular rate hours. They say they are working on updates. Certified payroll reports need an affidavit page added. Multiple companies can't report information to each other leading to double data entry if you have a staffing company/subcontractors and another company doing the work. Review Source SC Sharon C. July 9, 2010 4.0 I have recommeded this construction software for small to midsize contractors for many years because of the price, ease of use, and for the ability of the system to expand as a business grows. I have been using BIS since 1994 and have always emplemented all of the upgrades to the modules that we use. The upgrades always give us something that saves us time and therefore, saves us money/ We are long-time users that will probably continue to be BIS users for years to come. Pros It's easy to teach new users how to use the system. We find the reports easy to understand by the field people. The ability to export data to Excel and Word has been a huge time saver for us because of the Time and Materials work that we do. It gives the client a clean, easy set of reports with just the information that they need to see. I like that we can have up to nine entities set up in the system, if needed. It's helpful for small businesses to be able to emplement individual modules as needed and as they can afford them. The "real time" posting of job costs is great. The fact that when we enter accounts payable invoices and when we write the checks, those costs go immediately to the jobs allows our field personnel to see an up to the minute report the same day as the payroll is posted. Why you would send payroll out of house when this is so easy is beyond me! With BIS, we've got the information right now - not next week. Cons All accounting systems must have some drawbacks, but I've used others that are very cumbersome and convoluted to the point that reports are difficult to read. I don't like that you have to purchase a seperate module to do custom reports. We use the export feature to make customized reports. The only reason we have a Report Writer module is that there are so many reports in the system that most don't need to create their own. So why buy something if it's not needed? We also have a Custom Report Writing service for those who wish to utilize it for lack of time or very specific needs. We are also in the process of developing Time and Materials into BIS, which we know will help Sharon and others that have the same needs. JG James G. I am quite happy using this software. Pros The areas (tabs) which we use for our company are easily understandable and straightforward. This system has helped our company to access and log supplier invoices and keep them separate from other projects or general purchases. Payroll and paying taxes and all issues pertaining to payroll are simple. A curious individual like myself would click on various tabs and figure out how to use that info if necessary. there is really a lot of great help within this software. Cons There seem to be some areas of the software that are difficult or inaccessible, but that could be due to my full knowledge of the system. For our business it is a vital asset and I would highly recommend it! Pros The job costing module very user friendly and helps us keep track on a weekly basis of how a job is performing. Cons On job costing reports you are unable to get a specific state, like if you need just WA jobs or CA jobs. MICS is constantly updating the program to keep current with the newest technologies. Builder Information System has been a great investment form day one. Pros The program is simple yet powerful. We can export our data to Excel or Word. We are able to job cost all of our projects and produce financial statements on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly basis. We are able to consolidate multiple companies into a single financial statement as well. Cons We have no complaints. If any issues arise, technical support is quick to resolve them. BIS records and processes accounting transactions in real time and the various modules are functional and simple for our accountants to use.
