Customer Support: Customer support has been responsive and helpful whenever I’ve had a question. While I haven’t needed to contact them often due to the software’s dependability, the times I did reach out were handled professionally and quickly. As a private practice therapist, I spend most of my day meeting with clients and documenting my work in CounSol. I experience CounSol as a reliable co-worker who is really efficient at her job! When my friends set-up their private practice, I recommend CounSol and they often haven't heard of it because they don't advertise as much as some of the others but, with its exceptional customer service and good functionality, it is a gem and well worth it. Pros When I chose CounsSol almost 10 years ago, I reviewed all the competing options very carefully. In the end, I chose CounSol for their impressive customer support. Other platforms expect you to do-it-yourself in terms of creating the forms you want in your EHR. CounSol staff will take a form you already like, in what ever state it is already in, and make it accessible for your clients in your EHR. Also, with other platforms, when you have a problem, you submit it to a help line. At CounSol, you are assigned one customer service representative who is available to you. My person hasn't changed in all the time I have been with the company, and when he went on maternity leave, I was assigned a different support person. He always answers my questions in a timely way! Cons The platform for video sessions does not allow people to log in from two separate locations. I understand the company is working on fixing that. Some of the other platforms are somewhat less expensive but I am not sure it is worth the trade off because what you save in a few dollars less, you will spend in your time trying to customize your platform and fix your problems in ways that CounSol staff will help you with. " September 10, 2025 5.0 I am so glad I picked this EHR many years ago when I started my practice. I often think that I don't know what I would do without it. Price is great for all the features, and they keep adding additional ones. Troubleshooting is easy with a real person for assistance, not a phone tree. Pros I love CounSol.com; I have had it about 15 yrs. Everything is at my fingertips. It is always available ( very important); easy to use; has varied features to fit your office needs. Progress notes have check off boxes that are changeable, and assists in having HIPAA compliance. Clients can log in and complete forms for insurance, personal info, and more. It has option for telehealth sessions. You also have support quickly with your personal case manager. Cons Sometimes my clients find it difficult to log on to video sessions, but this seems to be more to do with their difficulty with technology, so I think the more tech savvy one's client is, the better this goes. Overall, the clunkiness makes it too hard to use for a therapist. You have to click into each note to see it, meaning it's hard to scroll adn see details. Pros The automatic sending of intakes is very smooth. It is easier than other EHRs I have used, adn it's easy to see which ones haven't been completed. It is the most smoothly integrated EHR for working with minors, where parents can be part of the account without being the named patient. Cons The interface is SO clunky. It has simplified my life to have so many of my private practice business systems in one place: intake paperwork, session notes, billing and payment processing, virtual sessions. I love that my clients can access their account independently to manage sessions, print billing statements, and send secure messages. In addition, the customer is FABULOUS! It offers the Wiley Treatment Planners add on which helps to ensure materials meet insurance needs. It has a tracking system for money, number of sessions, and new clients which provides wonderful data for our business. Additionally, it makes supervision and reviewing documentation easy and straightforward! We highly recommend this service! Pros The best part about CounSol is actually the customer service. He is quick to respond, always helps solve problems, answers questions efficiently, and never gives up even when we encounter something unusual. That level of customer service makes this system worth it! Additionally it is focused on counseling practice specifically which means that every button is directly applicable to what we need and it is fairly intuitive, making it easy for new employees to learn! Cons The worst thing is that the interface has an early 2000s feel, but honestly that is simply aesthetic and does not reflect the quality of the actual product. Pros I do like the value I get for the money that I pay monthly. I have not had issues in using the site. I like the layout and competing the notes is not difficult. I like my clients receive reminders and I have reminders about treatment plans, etc. I do like it keeping stats on appointments and cancelations and tracking over several years. Also, I like the tracking of payments so I can see the trends. Cons Not being able to bill through the clearing house for CCBHO, but I realize they are totally different codes that other providers. Cons Counsol.com has the availability for virtual telehealth sessions, but the feature is not user friendly for the therapist or client. The virtual feature is not very reliable in most cases. Cons As a first-time solo practitioner and user of my own EHR, I had no understanding of the payment processing feature. This was the most frustrating aspect because I inadvertently filled something out wrong and got stuck in a reoccurring attestation loop with Cardpointe every 3 MONTHS. Some practical guidance from the assigned representative upon signing up with CounSol would have been greatly appreciated. Some of this is my responsibility for not having sought guidance and found out by chance with a troubleshooting call to Cardpointe that I did not need to do the attestation every 3 months, but rather, annually. Everything can be signed electronically, and I can electronically send documents for therapy homework with ease. Clients love the streamlined interface and ability to self-schedule, submit payments, print their invoices, etc. Clients can also securely journal between sessions, and video for sessions is dependable. Cons I wish CounSol would develop the ability to interface with multiple clients at one time via video for the purposes of group or family sessions, and I wish there was an app. I think my clients would super appreciate the ease of an app interface.
