### "Counsol started my practice and going strong"

I do wish they had a reduced rate for Interns. I have discussed that and the email situation in the past.

Pros

Counsol is extremely intuitive and easy to use. It is constantly evolving and improving. The customer support is superior, there is just no other like it! They will make changes to the software to accommodate practitioner requests and are responsive to our needs. In 5 years I have used it I have seen the improvements and the response to their customers is just unlike anything I have ever experienced. In a nutshell, it is probably the most intuitive, least costly, and best customer support out there.

Cons

I dislike the email function. I wish there was a way to sort the emails by date and persons, and to be able to create folders and move them into folders such as one would with outlook. I used to dislike their billing and reports but they have made so many improvements that I have nothing to complain about in that regard. However, I wish they would address the email portion.

### "Everything I Need"

It has been FABULOUS!

Pros

Counsol.com is a one-stop shop. I use it for every aspect of my practice management, from scheduling to billing, filing insurance claims and accepting credit cards, patient records, and video sessions. It is very easy to use, and when I do have the occasional question, I can usually find an answer in the user help section. If I can't, I know that if I send a request for help, it will come as fast as they can provide it and always within 24 hours. When I needed to add the video sessions to my account in response to the pandemic, they had me set up in less than a day. Counsol.com is also VERY responsive to suggestions for improving the platform. In the time that I have been using it (about 6 years), they have increased functionality to include "sticky notes" for files and reminders of unfinished progress notes, converted from ICD9 to ICD10 seamlessly, and added Wiley Treatment Planners as an option, just to name a few of the improvements.

Cons

The only thing I'd like to see changed, currently, is a tweak to the video sessions so that they show how much time has elapsed, not just tell me when the session is "supposed" to end.

I chose Counsol.com because it was reasonably priced with a guarantee that my monthly bill would not increase unless I chose to add video sessions (an optional feature which I thought I might one day want, but didn't utilize until the pandemic) for the life of my account, I could access my files in perpetuity, and it was strongly recommended by a colleague who raved about their customer service (which I can also attest to - I love my account manager, \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\]).

CounSol is the foundation upon which my practice exists. From scheduling and documentation to collecting payments and submitting insurance claims, CounSol.com is a one-stop-shop. I have not opted for the telehealth meeting feature through CounSol.com yet, just because I'd been using a different video platfrom for telehealth before I signed up for CounSol, but it's also an option that can be used while simultaneously documenting a session.

Pros

The product is easy to use, the platform feels intuitive. The help guide is very useful and having one dedicated customer care professional to ask questions and get help from as needed has been absolutely wonderful. Whenever I turn to \[sensitive content hidden\] for questions or assistance, he has responded quickly, accurately, and has gone above and beyond several times to help me resolve my issue of concern in every area of using the platform from document creation to figuring out why a client's account might not be balanced.

Cons

Nothing of great consequence. Maybe there could be more fonts to chose from.

### "Everything you need for your private practice EHR"

This program allowed me to go completely online and paperless. I had no billing experience, and was able to learn how to bill in minutes a week and track claims easily - saving me a lot of money in lost time as well as lost payments. The electronic record is great and can be downloaded with a password if you need to send records to someone.

Pros

Counsol is the most complete, user friendly and affordable EHR I found available, created for the therapist who is also does billing, instead of expecting you to have a separate billing dept. You can do everything, from clients filling out intake forms, scheduling, appt. reminders, video sessions, and it integrates with the billing invoices for easy submission. All the forms, notes, treatment plans and ability to upload any documents you need is right there for every client. Plus the cost is flat rate, no hidden extra fees for anything and will never go up.

Cons

Over the years, as I have found I needed something, the Counsol team has worked to add and integrate it to the program. For instance, now the client can upload insurance cards, and send attachments, but not yet their picture ID, so there is a little room for improvement. There is no app, but the site does work on phones, its's just not as smooth as it could be. The internal email is HIPAA compliant, but the client has to be logged in.

Cons

I was always afraid I was going to do something wrong but then I would call \[Sensitive Content \]and he would explain things so well that he took all the fear out of it. If \[Sensitive Content \] wasn’t there, \[Sensitive Content \] was just so willing to help too.

There are a number of visual reminders to help me stay on task to write progress notes, apply payments and treatment plans.

Pros

The overall design is well thought out. Treatment planning can be Wiley Structured or DSM for a more flexible plan. I still haven’t had time to implement all of their features. When I get a free minute, I do adjust messages to clients or the appearance of my statements. I want to design more forms to screen symptoms and environmental conditions, because CounSol has the ability to let me incorporate my own forms with theirs.

Cons

The more I use it the more I like it. No changes necessary.

Pros

I chose CounSol over other highly rated EMR/EHRs due to the ability to speak to a support person who helped load customized intake forms into my system! I also chose CounSol over others because of the ease of navigation of the User Guide and how thorough it is. I was able to set-up my system relying on this guide including uploading treatment worksheets for each progress note session where this was applicable.

Cons

Some of the major Mental Health treatment approaches are missing from the listed interventions list on the progress note template such as IFS (Internal Family Systems) or Sensorimotor and there is no fillable "other" button to add these in. I incorporate this in my intervention note section.

Customer services is nothing less than exceptional and very responsive. Their team has really been instrumental in our success in operating CounSol effectively.

Pros

I was introduced to CounSol during my field experience as an intern. The clinical where I was working used CounSol. I really liked it then. Now that I own my own mental health clinic and have the role of owner and supervisor, I have permission to features that I didn't as an intern and I'm pleased with the software. I worked in places that use other EHR and I have not liked them at all.

Cons

If I had to select a "con", I'd say that I am not crazy about the telehealth platform as 99 percent of our clients cannot access it. I seems to have a lot of bandwidth.

Overall, I think this is a great EHR and I recommend it to lots of clinicians. It is easy to learn and easy to use, and I get good feedback from both clients and clinicians that they like the features.

Pros

I really like the integration with Office Ally and Square, which makes billing and taking payments easy. I also find it really simple to write notes and schedule, and I appreciate having everything in one place (client portal, records, payments, billing, etc.). Also the customer service is excellent. My account manager is always very responsive and easy to work with.

Cons

I do wish there was more ability to customize some of the options to my practice, like notes and supervisor reviews. I also wish that the client portal would allow for simpler options for sending forms to clients. It can be a little complex having to make your own "internal forms" and figure out how to make them work for a group practice.

### "Great program but could use some tweaks."

So far, the customer service is second to none. I really like the lower cost, and I'm very happy with the dashboard interface that shows me at a glace my practice.

Pros

I really like that this EHR completely integrates my notation, billing, and even telehealth. I LOVE the client portal and the ability for others to self-schedule, which I intend on opening to all clients. Now that I'm familiar with the layout, I also really like the way it only takes a couple of clicks to get through the menus.

Cons

I do not like that you cannot create your own internal forms, or that doing so is quite difficult. For example, there is no ready-made Discharge form, and creating one was a bit on the tricky side. Also, it's quite difficult to pull more specialized reports. Reporting is not at all intuitive. One of the things that is quickly frustrating me is there is no way to mark if an appointment was a no-show. But I'm working around all that.

### "Best Solution for Our Practice"

We have been using CounSol for almost 5 years. It's been the best all in one solution for us. CounSol handles everything - billing, patient management, progress notes and treatment plans, online portal, video conferencing... Customer Service is downright excellent - super responsive and we've had the same support person since the beginning. Highly recommend.

Pros

Easy to use, short learning curve, great price, meets ALL of our needs. We looked at a lot of options that were way more expensive and didn't have the features CounSol offers. The ability for our clients to book and pay through the client portal (a lot of similar solutions do NOT allow clients to pay through the portal), the ability to use our merchant account and not being restricted to Stripe or similar - so we get better rates on our credit card processing. Love that we have the ability to customize our client portal with our logo and branding. And so many other customizable features - just can't say enough good things.

Cons

We don't like the lack of a mobile application - which CounSol has promised is coming. It's getting to be more of an issue for us because our online counseling with families and teens is increasing. We hope that this technology is available soon or sadly, we will be forced to find another product. The only other thing I would say is that the overall look could be more modern. But what it lacks in that area it more than makes up for in functionality.

### "Best Value for the Money"

This is a great software. It’s quite user-friendly. Compared to competitors, Counsol is the best value for the money for me. I do a fair amount of insurance billing. Counsol submits claims for free through Officeally, unlike competitors who do their own electronica claim submission and charge money for each claim submitted. However, officeally is not ideal for me. I have contacted Counsol’s customer service to see if they might look into linking Availity into their insurance billing. I use Availity to file Regence payments, since Regence is no longer a “Payer” provider in OfficeAlly ( meaning I would have to pay if I filed claims through them). Counsol’s customer service was not willing to take my suggestion into consideration. They simply replied that Officeally was the best. So now I’m having to use more than one system to do my billing, but at least it’s still all free, unlike other practice management software.

Pros

Customer services tops. I always get a response within a few hours. All billing is done through Office Ally, which means that many claims are filed for free, unlike Simple Practice, which charges $.25 per claim, or Therapy Notes, which charges $.14 per claim. Counsol also doesn’t charge for appointment reminders.

Cons

Depending on what features you use, counsol could actually the same price or more expensive as other billing software, (if you’re not using insurance billing). Definitely compare prices closely before you choose a software.

### "Simplifies my practice"

Switching to counsol has made managing my private practice much easier. Customer support has been very responsive and the developers have implemented many of my suggested changes. The other development changes that have been made have all been imprints improvements and made this a very flexible and robust system. The free initial setup input all of my client intake forms, and then I was able to go into those forms and improve them in order to take advantage of the technology. I have also copied and modified those forms for individual clients, as needed. Modification and customization is very easy and intuitive for me. These features were much better than some of the very expensive systems I encountered during my search. My clients love the ease-of-use, and that we don't need to spend time on forms or payment during our sessions. They also love receiving appointment reminders (which I send out on their cancelation cutoff day). Some of my clients enjoy using the journaling feature, which allows them to choose whether or not they share an entry with me. I mainly use the system for scheduling, billing, and collecting client intake documents. The integrated scheduling and billing features have been major accounting time savers for me, and having secure credit card storage in the system means that I don't have to worry about billing clients, and I have a way to confirm appointments with credit cards (especially virtual sessions), as well as charge clients for late cancelation, according to my cancelation policy. I still take notes on paper, as I prefer not to be typing during my clinical sessions. However, in order to keep client files as required by law yet manage paper in my office, I have been scanning and uploading closed client files to CounSol as attachments, and then shredding the paper. One downside was that one of the main features I hoped to use when selecting a system was the video chat feature. I have not found that to be reliable. It might be because of my Windows 8 operating system or drivers, but the customer support for that feature was lacking. I have been a user for over 3 years now, so perhaps that has improved along with the other features. Other than that, the system is perfect for me and a major time, money and space saver. I can't imagine life without it now. Thank you!

I do not like the limited options for treatment planning and progress notes templates. It also does not have templates for other things like client contact.

### "Best Value and Most Comprehensive"

This software makes my solo practice so much easier! I can set reminders for myself, create and check off items on a task list; there are automatic (if desired) session reminders for clients, and client payment information is saved (still meeting HIPPAA compliance as the number is protected, but I don't need to ask for payment from the client every time, I just click to charge the card after the client leaves and have the client sign permission for this to be done for future sessions at the intake appointment!), I can set my own availability on the calendar including blocking time for personal appointments in order to avoid double booking or scheduling sessions when I will be out of the office. I did listen to webinars regarding features of 3-4 plans before choosing Counsol. Once I started with Counsol over 2 years ago, when opening my private practice, I never looked back.

Pros

1) The best feature is definitely the individual tech support! I hear back quickly (same day within a few hours . . . or for faster service I can call but no need for me!) and have been given options to suit my needs, even if not a typical feature at the time. 2) I also love how the CMS-1500 forms are auto-populated if information was previously saved once for clients insurance and session code CPT code was put in (also can be automatic by session type chosen if session presets are made). I can also print directly onto a CMS 1500 form!

Cons

2) I see kids at schools (contract with the local school district) so I wish there were a session option to choose on Counsol that matches each location option listed on the CMS-1500 form .

I enjoy using the Counsol and would definitely recommend it to others.

Pros

I love the treatment plan guide provided in Counsol. It's easy to access and update as my clients and I go through the plan. Scheduling clients is very easy and they are able to receive automatic reminders before their appointments. There are many areas to record various notes.

Cons

Some of my clients have complained they have filled out applications only for it not to go through. They receive error messages.

Overall, CounSol is not an inferior product, however it has not met my needs in the way I have been looking for and I am considering switching. They have been able to change small features for me (adding time zone to text reminders, for example), but the other features I really need are not in the works to be added, and it's making the process of documentation and managing my practice more complicated than I would prefer.

Pros

The support is superb, as you are assigned your own account rep when you create your account, and I don't think I have ever waited longer than a few hours for a response. I love that the client portal is customizable, and that CounSol offers custom templates. The color coding on the calendar is also great.

Cons

I wish the custom forms had more customization. There's no ability to change font size, make bullet points, or format the text in many ways. The question types are good but there are a few that are missing, as well as a few options within the question types that are available (box opening up when 'other' is selected, for example.) There is no way to add two separate people with separate emails to the client portal, making it difficult to work with minors that have divorced parents/guardians. I wish the appointment reminders were customizable. The platform in general is easy to use once you get the hang of it, but there is definitely a learning curve involved.

### "10+ Years with CounSol"

Pros

I have been with CounSol since 2012, and have never regretted the decision. Their products are al la carte, and their referral program can't be beat! I have had the same account manager since joining CounSol, and he has always been helpful and responsive. The company is also locally based to me (Central FL), which is a nice bonus.

Cons

Other platforms don't integrate with them as well because they are a smaller, less known company.

I remember being on the phone with him and I noticed that it was past his shift, but he continued working with me regardless. He almost always answers his phone when I call. If he doesn't (which is rare), he calls me back pretty quickly. In addition, he responds to emails pretty quickly. \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] had no problem rolling up his sleeves when I needed assistance with adding forms to the system. This was a HUGE help! \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] is an easy going guy who takes time looking into questions that pop up. YOU ROCK \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\]! Thanks for all you do!!!

Pros

I love the little help pop-ups. The system is very user-friendly. But, if I have a question about a feature/function, the help pop-up typically gives me the help I need. The software team obviously put a lot of thought into developing this software because it fits perfectly into our workflow.

Cons

There's a lot manual work involved when migrating from another system. But, it's clearly worth it.

SimplePractice has no business categorizing itself as an EMR or practice management system. It is seriously lacking a lot of basic functionality; and support is essentially nonexistent. It's rather sad because if our needs were to change, we would NEVER consider going back to SP!

### "HIPAA Compliant video platform with EHR and personal customer support!"

It has everything I need for a small practice- I could even do my billing through it but I have a long-standing relationship with my biller and will try to keep her until I retire because I'm sentimental like that. It does let me invoice directly and get paid through the site. Some of my clients have had difficulty using the platform for video counseling and journaling, but this is usually easy to resolve or related to their hardware/ wifi. The only reason I give 4 stars for customer support is that tech support is not 24/7 and video counseling can be after hours. Clients cannot access tech support directly due to confidentiality. I love the scheduling feature because it allows you to schedule recurring appointments with versatility to the client's needs, and allows options for updates on all recurrences when changes are made. I have asked for a document to share with clients for troubleshooting. Jonathan has been very helpful with translating my forms into easy-to-complete web forms for my clients, and very responsive to my questions and requests. I hope in the future CounSol will offer additional or premium options like uploads for Qliq (or a phone app with HIPAA compliant texting), rating scales offered to the client upon each login for sessions (You can do this now but have to have them created, and assign for each session), and an option that does allow you to print notes using less paper in the event hard copies are required. It's a great EHR for a solo mental health practitioner, and the price is affordable with quality service.

Pros

Built-in video, HIPAA-compliant w BAA, Jonathan (personal assigned CSR), Ability to customize forms and share with clients, upload attachments and save to a specific client.

Cons

When I have to print, the forms use way too much paper even double sided. Clients can't call customer service if they are having trouble connecting, leaving it to me to do troubleshooting, which is tough afterhours. It doesn't happen often, but I would like more troubleshooting resources available for the client. I also don't understand the full fee/ copay thing- are they charged for both? Is it the negotiated rate for their insurance company or my full rate? I just want them to be able to pay their copay online because I don't currently use the platform for billing.

### "Solid Electronic Health Record Platform with Good Features and Responsive Service"

It provides a stable platform that assists not only with maintaining clinical records but also with a solid client portal, additional practice management features, and a backup telehealth platform. While switching providers is a real challenge, I have not felt a need to based on the growth of the product and its reasonable price. When I look at having an EHR (such as CounSol.com), these other benefits usually are enough savings to justify the cost of the platform.

Pros

The company is responsive to suggestions for new features and improvements. I have seen real growth in the platform over the years that I have used it., including the integration of group plans and the ability to bill insurance. Once set up, it is relatively easy to use, with the ability to customize as needed. Long-term pricing has nice stability built in. There are good options in a number of areas, such as multiple credit card processors. Clients also speak well of the functions and ease of use of the client portal.

Cons

The visual appearance is on the older side, which some would dislike, although it does help in the stability of appearance for long-term users. There are still some group features that are a little awkward to use. There are also better telehealth platforms available, and the built-in solution does not allow multiple clients in different locations, so I use a different outside platform.

Pros

Whenever I have needed help, \[sensitive content hidden\], was always available to walk me through several issues that I had in the beginning. I very much appreciate his hands on service.

Cons

It is extremely frustrating that I cannot do a large batch export of my session notes by the month unless I go to each client individually to download the month's session notes. I have asked 2 or 3 times to have this issue fixed.

Reason for choosing CounSol.com

Price, and it met most of my needs for the software I wanted.

Pros

I love the balance of price/performance I get with Counsol. There are several features that bring Counsol way above the competition including having an account manager for quick and actual customer service and help whenever needed. Additionally, for mental health the inclusion of an integrated journal for clients as well as the ability to use this platform for working with couples and families is invaluable.

Cons

I wish the built in Telehealth platform was more robust, similar to Zoom, but you can't have everything. Other than this my only complaint is new forms do not pull data from previous versions. For example, a treatment plan update does not pull diagnosis and goals over to be just updated and signed. Instead you get a blank form and have to retype or copy paste everything.

### "Most features, best price, easiest to use"

I haev saved time and money, been able to reduce no-shows because of reminders sent to my clients, been able to recoup losses for no-shows because of the ability to integrate a credit card system (that's low cost) where clients are required to keep a card on file (secure, meeting Federal standards) that I can run if they do not show up. I would keep going, but my next therapy appointment just walked in! Got to go! I can't recommend them enough.

Pros

I have been with Counsol for 5 years. It's like having my own administrative assistant. It has freed up more time (for me to fill with other things, lol). When I first looked for software, I signed up for free trials and even made a chart comparing the features. Counsol has the most features then, and continues to have them now. You can use Counsol as your website, since it has the ability to add pages on your portal that are visible to the public. Just buy your name as a domain name and then point it towards your Counsol URL. You can select which options show up on forms, create your own forms, tweak treatment plans, decide what clients can and can't access, provide teletherapy, upload handouts and mp3s for your clients by topic (couples, parenting, ADHD, depression, etc.). You also have your own personal account representative. I have had the same one since I started. Each time I have a question, I get a prompt response back from him. If there's a problem, he works to find out what's going on and they troubleshoot with the software team to find solutions. They are also open to ideas and feedback and since I have used them, they have continued to add more features and capabilities. You can create users to have access to certain aspects of the software, so others can do scheduling or billing for you. I can't give enough kudos!

Cons

Until recently, the video software has been in need of some updating. But they have worked to develop an even better platform for distance therapy. It's currently being finalized and I am excited to test it out ASAP!

### "So glad I switched to Cou sol"

Nobody loves doing notes but literally every day when I use this program I find myself thinking how glad I am I switched. Counsol has dramatically improved my work life.

Pros

1\. Confirmation email and text sent to patient at time of scheduling. Reminders are also an option. I wanted the confirmation email and SimplePractice would not provide one. 2. Counsol integrates Square. 3. Prompt, personal service from your own Personal Account Manager by phone or email. 4. Counsol prevents accidental double-booking. If you try to double book you need to check an override box. 5. On the calendar there is a Today button so that unlike on SP you don’t need to go hunting for today’s date. 6. You can relate two or more clients so that the option to schedule a couple or family session is easy every time you make an appointment. 7. You can change the IP in a couple as appropriate should a different partner want to seeek insurance reimbursement. 8. Secure messaging with either an individual or couple. 9. On the iPhone app you can see the first names of both partners in a couple session. No panic lol. 10. You can send an announcement to everyone in your practice, or to all active patients, or to people you identify as being in a certain category (like couples).

Cons

It’s not as pretty as my prior programs (SimplePractice and Theranest) But you do get to customize colors and fonts to coordinate with your website, and patients see your name rather than the software’s branding.
