All my client information needs to be centralized in one location and I need quick access that information as well as a tool to record progress notes and to document my work with patients. I have quick access to those notes for review before each session and I can print them out to share with my clients, if needed. This software helps me sleep better at night because within I have my practice protected and thoroughly organized and documented.

Pros

This software covers all the bases for a smallish private practice. Scheduling, billing, reminders and session notes. It offers much more than that but I don't use all the tools it offers because I am a small agency. But, should I grow and add staff and other items, I am confident that Counsol.com would take care of all my concerns. It comes up quickly on my computer and goes quickly to all the links. No time is wasted waiting for this software to be used.

Cons

I honestly have no complaints for how I currently use this software.

Any time I've had a question or problem I've contacted my account manager and he has responded immediately. Customer service is excellent.

Pros

This software sends appointment reminders, has helped me organize client information, file insurance claims and collect practice data (like number of monthly sessions, monthly income taken in, etc.) It has a nice, clean layout and offers many customization options.

Cons

It was a little challenging learning how to use the billing features, but there would be a learning curve for this with any practice software.

My overall experience has been wonderful. I rarely have cancelations. I use customized forms and notes. I have a secure way to communicate with clients and their parents. I can attach pictures to specific notes. It has everything I need.

Pros

I have been using counsol since around 2012. I tried two or three other similar services when I briefly worked for a nonprofit. Counsol has prompt, thorough, and friendly customer service—the best. I also really like the level of customization I have.

Cons

I don’t like that I can’t click and drag appointments around the calendar like I could with other software I have tried.

Pros

I loved the ease of this EHR service. Whenever I had a problem on my end, such as wanting the service but needing to go part time, their customer service and flexibility was amazing. I felt like I was dealing with people who cared.

Nothing about it I can think of that I didn't like.

My no-show rate wasn't great before I got CounSol. Now, it's very rare for me to have a no-show with their reminder texts. Confusion around scheduling is virtually eliminated. I used to have to do a lot by hand to create invoices, write notes, log communications and reschedule clients. CounSol has streamlined all of that. The option for clients to reschedule, print invoices, communicate with me and sign forms all online and all on the same interface is so great. My practice and my professional life are very organized now. Thanks CounSol for all you've done for me in all the times I've had to reach out. You've been consistently awesome!

Pros

The reminder texts has reduced my cancellations by 75% and increased my revenue as a result. The customer service has been amazing. I probably hound them too much about possible changes and they always hear my needs and and either forward ideas to their tech team or give me a really understandable reason why my request is may not help others. They've incorporated several of the suggestions I've made. They're really open to helping and taking feedback whenever they can and I've see the database grow steadily and quickly as a result. It's VERY easy to use which makes it great for those who are intimidated by technology.

Cons

Only tiny personal preferences really. Most of my requests they've incorporated. Pretty awesome.

My notes are getting done quicker bc it's easier to get them done, I've realized although it's cheaper and there are some features that are better than my old product, it's not as professional as my old product and doesn't offer as many resources for measures that I would use as a LCSW

The intake measures aren't pulled into the initial intake note. This doesn't create a professional looking intake note like the other system I used. No ability to write a formal short note about a phone session, or missed sessions when you void the invoice you can't document it. Can't send attachments in an email via this site that I don't want to make available to all clients. The billing feature pages are very confusing and can be very overwhelming. The measures offered are limited and personally I don't want to have to input them and/or recreate them and it doesn't allow me to send specific measures to individual clients. It's like a one size fits all with this product.

Pros

I like that you have the add-on for treatment plans to assist with notes. I love the secure portal/website. I've been able to use that homepage in-lieu of getting my own website with hosting. The customer support has been great when I've utilized it. I will be in contact with them again as I work towards utilizing all of the features effectively.

Cons

There is a learning curve with using the platform. It does get easier the more you use it. I do need to invest some more time in it personally so I can fully utilize what its capable of. The overall look and user interface could be updated to be more appealing. It could appear to look outdated compared to newer platforms.

The customer service is outstanding! I have one person assigned to me and I can directly call him and ask questions, troubleshoot, etc. easily.

Pros

I work primarily with kids and many of the EHRs for psychologists are geared for adult clients. I love that CounSol allows you to create personalized forms, note templates, etc. I also really like the client portal feature so that I can be completely paperless and clients can access what they need 24/7 without having to contact me. I also really appreciated that it was very little work for me to set things up in the portal--I have direct access to a person who I sent my existing forms to and he magically made them show up in the portal.

Cons

One issue that I have is very specific to working with children, which I realize not all practitioners would need. I have many children I work with who have divorced parents and it would be very helpful to have the possibility of 2 separate parent log ins (2 separate passwords) for 1 child account. My understanding is that the coding involved in this would be extensive but it is complicated to explain to parents that they have to create 2 separate accounts to complete paperwork for 1 child and that only one of the 2 accounts is a "real" account.

We implemented CounSol at the beginning of COVID when we had to transition from paper files to EHR to enable the continuation of our practice virtually during the shut down. It was an incredibly stressful time and the support I received made it possible to completely transition to EHR in less than 2 weeks! The system is so intuitive and it just makes sense.

Pros

CounSol has the best overall system. The therapy notes, client database, billing, calendar, and practice analytics are all better than their competitors when you pair it with ease of execution, use, and support. It is a very straight-forward intuitive system and it is always improving.

Cons

I really wish the calendar system would have a view option of all the counselors at one time for the week view. Doing this would show all the open appointments for the week in one screen. Full Slate is really great at this. This being said, though, doesn't take away from my wholehearted recommendation of CounSol.

Gives me HIPAA compliant platform. Allows for secure emails to be sent through system.

Pros

The price is good for the product. I love that I have an account manager that is very helpful. He has helped me with any questions that I have. He also has loaded my forms onto the system for me. Saves time.

Cons

The video portion was not used for phones or tablets. Even though a lot of my clients are video, I did not purchase this part of the system due to that. I wish that forms could easily be duplicated instead of sending to my account rep. I also wish that a form could be assigned to multiple labels rather than just one or all. I also wish there were video tutorials, not just documents, however the account rep is a good resource. Clients can't upload documents to send me. I am still having to purchase HIPAA email system outside of Counsol. I wish clients could get an alert to their text when a message was sent.

Price for product. Main reason is that email was included. My goal was to have one place for my clients to use, but that did not work out. The video platform I use is VSee and the texting is OhMD. I am also going to add a secure email system as there are other situations that need secure email that is difficult to accomplish through this system. Does require multiple sign ins, which I was trying to avoid. But VSee saves me $15 a month and clients can use their phone or tablet.

Pros

The support, definitely. Very helpful and available. This program offers portal, credit card linkage, email, online insurance submissions, and tele-health capability, with good presentation of data, easy movement throughout the program, I can correct my numerous errors. All HIPPA compliant and encrypted. I've tried therapy Partners, Therapy Notes, Simple Practice, and like Counsol best. The clinical side is fine, I know how to keep therapy notes no problem no matter the program,, it's the billing/insurance/balances/statements bookkeeping side that makes me crazy and this program makes me much less crazy than others I've tried, or at least, I have access to Johnathan (who is now on medication) who fixes the problem.

Cons

Would it kill them to write a freaking manual? Nothing is particularly complicated to do, but you have to know where to click first and where to click second, and these are state secrets! Known only to Johnathan!Their help section is designed for people who don't need much help. The calendar is small, and doesn't let me set the colors I want to show different kinds of sessions, also I really would like a system to track No shows and cancellations on the calendar.

Overall, it's been great as a small practice management tool, with the exception of the telehealth capabilities. However, the telehealth issue has become more pressing in recent months, in addition to billing and payroll needs, so I am considering changing.

Pros

Love the general features within the EHR. Automatic reminders to clients on appointments, all in one place practice management, reports on practice productivity

Cons

The telehealth option is virtually useless. It's outdated and regardless of internet strength it almost always freezes. Compared to the options out there, including zooms new option for small practices at practically the same price, I will be dropping this portion of my subscription. I'm literally paying for a service that is unusable with my clients.

Price, and at the time, I did not need telehealth or insurance billing options. As much as I like counsol.com, especially the responsiveness of customer service, with my current practice needs for telehealth and centralized billing, I would likely choose another provider. However, I haven't done so due to the complexities of starting over with someone new and transferring all my files.

I have nearly completely digitized my entire practice - while I do still keep hard copy files for each client (that's just the "old school" counselor in me!) I honestly don't have to with this software. I have passed multiple audits because the progress notes, calendar log of appointments, assessment, and treatment plans have all the information the auditors are looking for. Plus, typing progress notes in between client sessions is a breeze - it literally takes me less than 5 minutes! I also really like how clients can access a "Patient Portal" where they can schedule appointments, make payments, and send me messages. This really cuts down on the work for front office staff, and is really convenient for clients too.

Pros

It is very quick to learn and easy to use. It has all the features I need and then some! I like the pre-populated progress notes, they have everything you need. I have been audited by insurance carriers multiple times, and each time I have passed because the progress notes have everything on them the auditors are looking for.

Cons

There have been things that initially were missing, that other software programs I have used had available. However, when I emailed customer service with my suggestions to add things - they ACTUALLY did it! So because of that, I have absolutely no complaints whatsoever.

I have been using CounSol for a few years now and it has made my life so much easier. Online scheduling, the ability to have clients complete their forms prior to their intake appointment speeds things up. Also the ability to track everything; progress notes are easier, forms are easier, filing is easier. This was our first venture away from paper files and I can honestly say I have been more than impressed. There are a few things I would still like to see first and foremost the ability to have more than one clinician on a single account. I am a small agency whom employs another counselor only part time so all of the entering and tracking on the system still has to be done by me; the account owner. Also, you are assigned a single account manager -where I could see could be very beneficial. However, sometimes I feel the one I have been assigned isn't always the most professional or courteous. I have taken to making my requests on their help page if I absolutely cannot find the answer under FAQ's. Overall, however; this is a wonderful program and has helped my business keep up in the world of technology. My clients love the text message and email reminders about appointments and for the price you won't find anything better!!

Ease of use. Ability to have clients complete paperwork ahead of time, text message reminders, ability to send announcements to all clients, how organized it keeps my files, ease of progress notes

Cons

Inability to have multiple counselors on one account and being supplied only one account manager, could be fantastic but I am slightly intimidated by mine and don't know how to switch

I have had a great experience with Counsol! I have used them for over a year while I started my practice in the pandemic. They've made it really easy to start a practice.

Pros

I really like the customized scheduling features in this software. It makes it easy to keep my boundaries in place for scheduling which can be hard to do on my own. There is a spot to put how long of a break you want between sessions, what types of sessions you want to do on which days (for example, you can see new clients only on Mondays), and you can assign default session types to each client. I also really love their quick and thorough customer service!

Cons

I wish there were more ways that Counsol was inclusive to different communities. They have made some efforts but there is room to grow. For example, having a place to write in gender rather than pick from options. I also wish they could improve the video software. It works well but is lacking basic features that Google Meets and Zoom provide.

I was nervous about picking a software but Counsol was my first choice and the best choice. The experience has been easy and the software does anything and everything I could ask. Someone really thought this out. You are able to customize the interface for yourself and your clients. I was impressed with the details; down to the option of choosing to call those you serve patients or clients- it is details like this that show me someone thought this through very well. The customer service is unmatched (you have your own representative you can email or call). No major complaints so far.

Pros

1\. The support!!! I email my rep and he responds in a timely manner. When he was out of town, someone covered for him. I could not be more impressed with the support. It is the best feature of the software honestly. You are never alone and you don't have to "figure it out". 2. The price isn't bad. 3. It does everything I need it to do. It is intuitive and pretty easy to use and figure out.

Cons

1\. I would LOVE and app. I don't like having to use my laptop to schedule client appointments and do other things. PLEASE create an app. If you take any feedback and app, especially that offers scheduling and note taking, would be amazing. It is probably the only thing that the competition has over CounSol. They point you to the Counsel website on your phone but that is NOT the same as an application. Please invest the money and time to create this for your customers. 2. The interface does not look as modern as other platforms. A facelift would be nice. Not a deal breaker at all.

I learned of Counsol almost 4 years and have had an incredible experience. Most striking is how invested and responsive Jonathan (my assigned representative) has been in helping me address any questions or needs. I am a bit technologically challenged, and yet found Counsol to be very user friendly, particularly because Jonathan was available to answer my questions over the phone and in real time. The features I most appreciate are the electronic scheduling feature, which has saved me hours each week that I used to spend playing email/phone tag with clients, only for them to respond after the offered time has been accepted by another client. I also appreciate the ease of billing, whether to submit client's out of network insurance claims or to keep payment records for myself. The mail feature puts me at ease given it is HIPAA Compliant, and has also been recommended to me by HIPAA trainers above all others for this reasons. Also note that I have referred dozens of friends and colleagues to Counsol, all of whom have thanked me for the recommendation given their similar positive experiences. Thank you to Jonathan and Counsol for allowing me to focus on what matters most, which is client care, and helping me to efficiently and effectively take care of the rest.

I would love if the out of office feature for email could be set up on a recurring basis. i.e. I am offsite on Mondays and Fridays and would love to somehow represent that to clients on the calendar feature and in email response. Moving to electronic health records through CounSol.com has allowed me to access clients' charts when it's urgent, whether to access their contact information if I need to cancel unexpectedly, or even to locate a client's address when I needed to send emergency services to a client's home. Paper charts would have meant driving to my office to find such information.

Pros

I love the appointment reminders for clients, which helps to improve appointment attendance. I also love that Counsol is always adding updates, like recently offering Wiley treatment plans for an additional fee. This makes my charting so much easier and more streamlined. The interface is user-friendly and fairly intuitive once you get set up.

Cons

There are a few forms I'd like to be able to edit, like the psychosocial form, especially when I am seeing a child or adolescent. I'd like to be able to tailor the forms specifically for the client I'll be seeing.

I love the fact that clients can complete their own biopsychosocial, leaving intake time to questions of the clinicians discretion while still meeting insurance compliance. Counsol.com makes most things easier for both clients and therapists and therefore is worth the cost over the free or nearly free practice platforms. Like in most things in life, "you get what you pay for " . I have used the so called free services. They are not worth it. I would rather pay a little and receive everything that Counsol.com offers.

Pros

Counsol.com takes most of the work of electronic record keeping out of my hands and makes compliance with regulatory requirements seemless and uncomplicated.

Cons

A follow up option with insurance compensation so that the reconciliation could be as easy as the initial billing would be a huge time saver.

I wish it had an office package so our administrator could go in and see everyone without username and password. Geared more for individual priv as the practice versus an office practice with a scheduling system attached for multiple associates who use different office spaces. I also wish it was like the program Jane that has over 200 templates you can use for consent, information gathering etc

The flexibility that this system provides has allowed us to have our own processes rather than being driven by the functionality of the software.

Pros

I love the ease of use and that it is very intuitive. There are free options for credit card processing as well as claim processing. I have used this system in my new private practice and it is nice that we have added more counselors and it now allows that functionality.

Cons

Getting formatted reports which are more than basically screen shots is difficult. They are fast to respond if they agree that something is a bug, but if they don't you have to wait a long time for it to be addressed. I have to say I have always had responses to my requests as to whether is will be addressed immediately or put on a "list"
