### "It's excellent, but deployment needs an overhaul."

August 28, 2021

4.0

Algorithms for image processing and automated lab equipment in the workplace are prototyped and developed in MATLAB. Data analysis is another use we've found for it. Image processing and algorithm development are the primary reasons for doing this, though.

Pros

\# This material is suitable for rapid prototyping. # Fast, on-the-fly dataset analysis # simplicity of learning # Really solid online guidance materials. # Huge community of engaged and active users, along with lots of queries.

Cons

\# Extensibility # Object-oriented programming support # making it possible for other languages to use functions Having the skill to create APIs for various languages

### "Engineering Student use of MATLAB"

March 13, 2024

5.0

I am never mad to be assigned a project in MATLAB and actively choose to use it for some calculations. Many classes force or recommend its use at my school, which is a good thing as I think it is a very powerful tool that has many possible applications.

Pros

MATLAB is a great easy to learn programming language. It has proven incredibly useful to me in solving lab calculations, graphing lab data and also fully simulating an aircraft in Simulink. The amount of toolkits and features that expand off of the base MATLAB product make this a must have in my opinion.

Cons

Having used other coding languages, I always forget that its indexes start at 1 and not 0 which is the standard.

### "Will recommend to anyone who is into systems and controls design. My holygrail"

August 11, 2021

Overall, a pretty great tool for controller development.

Pros

MATLAB is a great tool for data analytics since it has built-in packages that give ready-to-use data solutions. If you have several developers or data scientists working on the same codebase, MATLAB has code versioning built-in so that you can simply link to Bitbucket/Git repositories.

Cons

MATLAB is a large program that takes a long time to install and open. In comparison to Python and other programming languages, MATLAB has fewer third-party packages. While MATLAB programs are capable of doing nearly any operation, accomplishing certain tasks that other languages are better suited to can be a hard process.

### "MATLAB Pros and Cons"

May 20, 2023

5.0

MATLAB is a great software for data analysis, I used this software for more than two years in my university graduation project and it helped me a lot in some mathematical analysis.

Pros

MATLAB comes with a large collection of built-in functions and toolboxes that extend its capabilities. These toolboxes cover various domains, such as control systems, image processing, optimization, and machine learning. MATLAB supports multiple platforms, including Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Cons

MATLAB can have a steep learning curve, especially for users who are new to programming or have limited experience with mathematical software. MATLAB can consume much from your device memory, especially when working with large datasets or complex calculations.

### "Do your simulation projects with MATLAB"

September 25, 2021

5.0

I've done a lot of data processing and visualization with MATLAB. This software has greatly aided me in the areas of optimization and the use of repeated algorithms to solve problems. So my overall experience is good with this.

Pros

As a student at university, I learned how to use MATLAB and quickly realized that it is a useful tool for my works. I was able to accomplish whatever I want with this software because it is so comprehensive. During my university years, I used this tool to create simulations, projects, and calculations. Hence, MATLAB is a simpler programming language than many others, and it allows you to perform more operations with less code. Another advantage is It can be synced with many software.

Cons

There are also sporadic difficulties with Matrix inputs, and the order of operations occasionally deviates from the standard. And In some cases, a MATLAB version's code may cause an error in another version. Another flaw in this software is that it is not free, and purchasing a license is costly. That’s all about my cons with this.

### "MATLAB excellent option for prototyping code"

June 7, 2019

5.0

My most recent project was using MATLAB to reduce data sets to make them in a more user friendly format (.xlsx types). Between my own programming experience and MATLAB's built-in documentation, the project was very straightforward.

Pros

MATLAB has many built-in functions with excellent documentation. There is a good chance that if you need to create a conversion (i.e. Lat-Lon-Alt to ECEF), that functionality is already in MATLAB. Though it is slow, MATLAB is an excellent way to prototype code that will be implemented in another language, such as Python or C++

Cons

The fee to use MATLAB outside of academic purposes is exorbitantly high. Also, the code itself is cumbersome, and you can only use the MATLAB text editor to compile MATLAB code.

Reason for choosing MATLAB

Python was considered, since it's free and open source. We use both.

### "Matlab review"

February 18, 2024

5.0

I was able to complete multiple numerical analytic exercises with Matlab; some of the implementations I completed were the Lagrange Method, Monty Hall Problem, Gauss-Jordan Elimination, and Newton-Raphson Method.

Pros

MATLAB is simple to learn and intuitive for data scientists and mathematicians to utilise.

Cons

Understanding how Matlab functions takes some time, and for new users who wish to begin using this programme, this can be especially challenging. However, with practice and patience, this complexity can be resolved.

### "Best for Engineering students"

December 14, 2022

5.0

Overall experience is excellent. It is a must for engineering cause you can't always stay in a lab at your university.

Pros

People who are familiar with any computer language can understand the techniques of using MATLAB. This is software that can be used in engineering fields. The ability to use image processing and signal analysis tools is an advantage. By coding the fundamental methods of processing, these techniques can be performed. This software can be used to create applications. It isn't built-in if you think you've eaten the matlab. If you look at the functions, you can see how the fathers of this job avoid the for's and how they use matrices badly. Your brain can become watery. Let me remind you that there are commands like profile and look for.

Cons

The software slows down the computer and I found virus warnings many times on my PC.  Most people don't think about buying it because it's too expensive. Most of the students use the cracked version at our university. So I think they should reduce its price.

### "One of the most powerful products in engeneering field."

October 30, 2020

4.0

I now use Matlab to do all my University projects. I have used it for 4 years. The first impact was literally very tough. At the beginning I think you need someone that teaches you to use the program. If not it is very difficult to start. But when you begin using it, after some time you can use it to do whatever project, calculations, program you want.

Pros

This software is so deep that you can do whatever you want with it. I used this product to make projects, models, simulations, programs, calculations during my universtity years. If you begin trying and learning to use this product the possibilities are endless. The interface is a little bit confusing at a first use. But with a little bit of training it takes its sense.

Cons

There are mainly two things that I don't really like of this products. The first one is that it is a program a little bit difficult to install and to update to the next release (sometimes I hade to uninstall completely two times the program to succed update it). The other thing that I don't really like is that the interface is maybe too complicated. You have lots of things that you can need. But when you are working on something specific you don't really need everything. It can be confusing.

### "Matlab: Making Programming Easier"

May 19, 2021

4.0

I had to switch to Matlab when I had to design machine learning pipelines quickly and had to deploy them as well. Matlab was very easy to setup, with just one installer doing the heavy lifting to install all the necessary packages and everything. The drag+drop interface is easy to use and understand, and helps in designing the pipelines quickly and efficiently. Matlab also runs faster, making efficient use of the GPU, which all in all is very easy as compared to it's alternatives.

Pros

Toolboxes. There are a lot of toolboxes for each different type of research domain, be it signals, image processing, machine learning, audio and what not. Each tool box is packed with a feature rich library of inbuilt functions for processing and analyzing data. Furthermore, using them is very easy with their drag+drop interface.

Cons

The user interface. I know that Mathworks is working continuously working on the UI, but it is still not at par with the current generation. The IDE looks very outdated with limited configuration. This gives it a whole outdated feel and makes very uncomfortable to use.

Switched from

[TensorFlow](https://www.capterra.com/p/170397/TensorFlow/)

We were using Tensorflow with Python. It is a more powerful library for Machine Learning as compared to Matlab, but using it is a mess and needs a different level of expertise. On the other hand, Matlab has a simplistic interface which one could learn easily by using it once.

### "System simulations made easy!!"

July 20, 2019

4.0

MATLAB is a really useful tool for simulating the system and overall its modules for different fields of engineering provide us with great experience in developing the code for running simulations.

Pros

MATLAB helps students or researchers in completing their system simulations with its easy to use software. The system can be designed and coded on MATLAB for running these simulations and then the system performance can be analysed effectively. There is a module available for each engineering field which helps developers to start their system simulations very fast rather than having to write all the code from scratch.

Cons

MATLAB is an awesome tool for doing system simulations but license needs to be purchased for using the software, which is not the case for programming languages like python or R.

### "A Powerful Mathematics and Engineering Framework"

October 20, 2020

5.0

While not for everyone, if MATLAB would suit your workload and projects then it is an easy recommendation.

Pros

MATLAB is a language and computational framework targeted at mathematics and engineering workloads. Its broad framework covers many mathematic functions, from very simple algebraic functions to advanced computational algorithms, all built-in to MATLAB. Complicated computations that would take hundreds of lines in standard programming languages can be written in as few as a single line of code in MATLAB. In addition to the basic framework of MATLAB, there are many paid packages to further enhance the functionality of MATLAB to suit your project.

Cons

People with a background in programming often have trouble adjusting to using MATLAB. It is well known how MATLAB arrays start at 1 rather than the standard 0 in computer programming. This has been the bane of some projects. While the documentation for MATLAB functions is quite expansive, MATLAB's closed source nature leaves little room for modifying existing functions or digging through source code to understand the inner workings of the existing functions.

### "My experience with this software has been wonderful"

June 26, 2018

5.0

With this software I learnt a lot of things. I learnt about how to work with artificial neural networking, signal processing etc. The feature of debugging helped me to understand how my code works and helped me make a good coder.

Pros

The best thing about matlab is the availability of the inbuilt functions and the GUI that it has. It allows users to access a multitude of different problem solving tools like optimization, neural networking, electric signals etc. The best thing about it is its library. The user can look up any functions and their usage and can understand clearly about how the function works via examples and videos.

Cons

The software is sometimes slow with implementation of the functions and data handling. That is why people these days are leaning towards other languages like Python.

### "Provides a set of useful tools for statistical analysis and visual representation"

October 5, 2023

5.0

Our firm focuses on market research and my work involves collecting data and sometimes analyzing and presenting it. MATLAB has the features we need to manage, analyze, and present data to help our clients make informed decisions. MATLAB is relatively easy to use when you understand the basic functions and helps us meet our clients' needs. Although it is relatively expensive and requires learning, it is a great tool once you understand how it works.

Pros

MATLAB provides a full set of tools to analyze data and derive meaning from all the figures we collect from the field. It can accommodate a broad range of data and simplifies the analysis stage. It also comes in handy when writing reports, presentations, and filling out research data sheets because of its data visualization. You can use it to simplify complicated data sets into graphs and charts, making it easy for a layman to understand.

Cons

MATLAB requires learning because it is not one of the easiest software to use. It has many intricate tools designed to perform simple and complex mathematical or statistical tasks. Therefore, users certainly need to learn to effectively use it. However, analyzing data with MATLAB and creating charts and graphs is not too complicated.

### "The most complete software for numerical analysis"

June 29, 2021

5.0

In general, MATLAB has been very useful for developing my research in numerical analysis because I work with numerical schemes to approximate systems of nonlinear differential equations, and all the numerical simulations I perform are carried out in this program simply and efficiently. The experience has been excellent and I always recommend it to students and colleagues who have scientific interests similar to mine.

Pros

What I like most about MATLAB is its wide variety of tools that allow you to perform everything from simple linear regressions to designing complex mathematical models. Also, the ability to work with matrices and vectors makes it very easy to develop numerical routines to solve linear equation systems as well as to approximate solutions of ordinary and partial differential equations.

Cons

Ease of use could be improved as it takes some time to become familiar with the tools as well as the MATLAB programming language.

### "MATLAB is the best"

January 16, 2021

5.0

As a summary, MATLAB is one of the best computer aided programme i ever used in my academic life. This helps me a lot to do my mathematical calculations and save my time. I love MATLAB so much and highly recommend to any other person without any hesitation.

Pros

MATLAB is one of the greatest software i using in my day to day works. It is computer aided language which developed to solve complex mathematical problems. The best thing about MATLAB is, it having very user friendly interface which even a new beginner can easily adopt to that software. Also thus MATLAB can used to solve our complex mathematical problems, we can save our time instead of doing manual calculations. I personally love that the way how MATLAB solving complex matrix.

Cons

Thus MATLAB is computer aided software, it needs modern computer with considerable memory to operate properly. If you have modern computer with good RAM, you can easily run the programme without any disturbance.

### "The best software for math and computation -- hands down"

September 30, 2021

4.0

Pros

I like most how MATLAB has such a wide variety of different of mathematical operations and functions built into the tool. For example, it allows me to do derivatives, integrals, fourier transforms, laplace transforms, and much more in the tool, which is a set of functionality I cannot find anywhere else!

Cons

What I like least about MATLAB is how expensive a license for the software is. There are other tools for mathematical modelling in Python and so forth which have evolved in their complexity and are free, and I more commonly find myself turning to lower cost competing software.

### "Easy to solve your mathematical problems"

April 3, 2020

5.0

I always use Matlab to analyze the data, filter noises and solve mathematical problems. I found the software very helpful especially in the controls and engineering sides.

Pros

I have been using Matlab for more than ten years. It is very user-friendly. The Matlab data analysis is based on matrices. Therefore, if you are dealing with various mathematical, control, or engineering problems, Matlab is one of the best software. You can solve most of the complicated equations numerically and get the right answer. The figure section of the software is easy to work with. It gives you several options on how to plot your figures.

Cons

It is a great software. However, I think it has some bugs in the plotting section. Sometimes it bothers when you want to plot a figure with several axes.

### "My Experience On MATLAB"

October 26, 2019

5.0

I am an undergraduate Engineering student. So in my academic works and also in my industrial presentations I have to do very accurate works. I had a problem of drawing accurate graphs to illustrate many information. Then I found this software MATLAB. I have learnt the coding well after practicing it for about one month because it is very much simple. So it is easy to learn because the mechanism is far much simple and any one can master it after some practice. So I highly recommend any one to use this MATLAB software to get very accurate graphs and you can learn the coding mechanism very quickly. Thank You

Pros

I am an undergraduate Engineering student. So I am usually use this MATLAB software in my academic works because I use this software to present many ideas or information by using graphs. MATLAB gives me very accurate graphs by doing a small and easy code which can learn with a little practice on it.

Cons

I am using MATLAB software for more than 2 years but I did not get any problem while using this software.

### "Analytical tool for your need"

April 20, 2022

5.0

The software is the right tool for processing all kinds of your data. I would recommend this product, especially to students who want to work in the field of research.

Pros

The software provides a wide range of analytical options for your data to make the right decision for your business. The software has many capabilities including logistics regression, clustering, and linear regression of the data. It can also visualize the data basis your need which will help in making a decision for your problem.

Cons

I recommend the team to improve on the layout of the software a bit because when you visualize the data it doesn't give a good vibe as compared to other products out there in the market such as power BI or tableau.

### "Matlab is one of the best for computing."

July 18, 2018

5.0

It helps me every day in my research.

Pros

There is nothing you can not do in Matlab. You can do any kind of mathematical calculation or numerical analysis in Matlab. It is also very user-friendly. Matlab is developed by MathWorks. I like their website because you literally don't need to learn Matlab from someone, you can just go to their website and you can access any command along with the appropriate example. The coding may take a while if it is complicated but once you get it running, you don't have to do anything else. You can write a code in Matlab in such a way that it can load your data from any text/Ms-excel file, run the analysis and store the results the way you want in a different text/excel file.

Cons

My only concern is graph plotting. Although you can plot any type of graphs (normal, contour, scatter) in Matlab, the quality is not quite good if you are looking to publish that. Plus, on a few occasions, I have had some struggle to understand why my code is not running because the reason shown wasn't very clear but eventually I figured it out.
