When we decided to move our practice from paper charts to an electronic system, my biggest concern was how it would impact our physicians, staff, and patients. We had multiple providers across two locations, each with their own documentation habits, and I was skeptical that any EHR could be implemented without disrupting productivity. Optivate exceeded our expectations. We were able to transition from paper charts to a fully electronic environment in a remarkably short period of time without reducing patient volume. The system was intuitive to learn, fit naturally into our clinical workflows, and allowed us to focus on patient care rather than spending time navigating software. The biggest benefit has been having immediate access to patient information, imaging, and documentation in a consistent format across the practice. What used to require searching through paper charts is now available instantly. Documentation is more standardized, billing processes are more efficient, and communication between providers and staff has improved significantly. What I appreciate most is that Optivate was clearly designed for ophthalmology. The workflows make sense, the system is efficient, and the support team has been responsive whenever we've needed assistance. It has allowed us to modernize our practice while maintaining the level of patient care and efficiency that has always been important to us.

Pros

Optivate is built specifically for ophthalmology, and that shows in the way the system functions day to day. The clinical workflows are intuitive, documentation is efficient, and patient information is easy to access across providers and locations. The transition from paper charts was far smoother than I expected, and we were able to maintain our patient volume throughout the implementation process. The integration between clinical documentation, imaging, and practice management has improved efficiency throughout the practice, and the support team has consistently been knowledgeable, responsive, and easy to work with.

Cons

Any major technology change requires commitment from physicians and staff, particularly when transitioning from paper records. While there is a learning curve during implementation, the training and support provided by the Optivate team helped make the process manageable and minimized disruption to our practice.

Optivate is easily customizable, is very intuitive for the user and their customer support is attentive.

Pros

Of the three EMR systems I have used in my career, Optivate is by far the most intuitive for the user.

Cons

I would like to see some added features for the MIPS section with exporting certain patient lists to address fixable errors for e-rx's.

I have never been disappointed by this company. I don’t see why any ophthalmologist would use another EMR

Pros

Crystal Palaccios is the most pleasant, competent individual I deal with on a daily basis. I would be lost without her. I cannot express my appreciation for her help in the past.

Cons

The cost is high, but sometimes you have to pay for excellence

Our experience with Optivate has been outstanding from day one. We evaluated several other well known ophthalmology EHR systems before making our decision, and Optivate stood out because of its ease of use, seamless integration between the EHR and practice management system, and the people that stand behind it. The transition was smooth, and our physicians and staff were able to get comfortable with the system quickly. Even the less tech-y staff adapted well! One of the biggest improvements we've seen is in our billing workflow. Tasks that used to take me hours now take a fraction of the time, reducing our billing workload by approximately 75%. We've also seen improvements in accuracy, efficiency, and overall day-to-day operations. What I appreciate most is the level of support and follow-up we receive. When we have a question or need a hand, the Optivate team is just awesome. They are responsive, knowledgeable, and invested in helping us succeed. We never feel like just another customer. Their team consistently goes above and beyond, and that level of service has made a tremendous difference for our practice.

Pros

I love Optivate because of the software and their exceptional support team. The system is ophthalmology specific, so it is naturally intuitive and easy to use. My favorite thing about Optivate overall is the team. They are incredibly responsive, knowledgeable, and great to work with. They genuinely care about their clients' success and have really been there for us through the transition and beyond.

Cons

I'll admit I was nervous about switching because change is hard. Like any software conversion, there is a learning period when changing systems. However, the Optivate team went above and beyond to provide such great training, support, and guidance throughout the process, they made the transition much easier than I had anticipated.

EyeMD is practical and functional for eye doctors. It is configurable to meet the special needs of some eye doctors. There are multiple improvements that can be made: For example, ability to continue putting patient data in without an internet connection (which can be more permanently stored once internet connection is achieved), sensorimotor and additional testing seems to be overly complicated to use, and an Apple and mobile phone versions would be helpful.

Pros

EyeMD is configurable. Able to put "fastplans" in to tailor to specific practice needs. Of course, EyeMD is made for eye doctors so it offers many advantages for eye doctors over many other EMR systems

Cons

There are too many "mouse clicks" and buttons to press which seem unnecessary or redundant. EyeMD does not have a version for Apple products or a mobile phone version (that I know of). If there is no internet connection, it seems you are out of luck. As the name implies (EyeMD), this product falls short for aspects commonly need by optometrists (contact lenses, eyeglasses sensorimotor/binocular testing)
