However, the end product leaves me with a quotation that i'm more than happy to submit. Pros Ease of input. Excellent reports.. quote estimates. And the ability to change structure of quotes and save for future quotes. Sub sectioned workbooks to easily navigate back to make alterations/additions. Updated to current materials and labour costs. Cons Steep learning curve. Especially for small builders who are generally practical guys on site with limited ability or time with computers. Difficult to produce price books to individual job requirements. Original cost of purchase, especially if one only has the odd large contract to price now and again. No need to spend hours in the office pricing jobs. Pros Being a big user of HBXL. I can honestly say the time and money that this software can save is fantastic. Once you get it suited to your needs you can knock out estimates and health and safety files quickly and offer a professional looking package to your clients. The support is very good would highly recommend. Cons The initial set up and getting use to the software. Support are always there to help. Pros I like the way this software is set up for most of the jobs you would ever expect to take on as a professional builder. For me personally it provides me with the exact level of detail I would expect from estimating software. It's not just the estimating power it gives you that made it stand out from the rest. It was the companies professional after sales support that I have found to be an invaluable asset. Unlike there main rivals, the team at Est. Express realise this software is aimed at builders and seem only to pleased to help. There is no messing about, it's a one off reasonable(yearly) fee, that is by far better than any of its competitors. Cons For me I would like the software to be able to provide me with a more simplified Bill of Quantities that relate better to the amounts of timber I would be expected to by or the total amount of bricks. Eg. Not necessarily meterage. So let's say 4105 bricks so I don't have to work out what I'm asking for as I order, or 10 lengths of let's say 100mm x 47mm timber at 2.4m lengths, already rounded up. Other than this, I think the program is more or less pretty much perfect for what I want. The installation screens look crisp and frankly what I'd expect from a specialist software package. The software arrived in a box along with a book to get you started. At first glance the manual looks a bit daunting, but a closer look reveals that it is broken down into small bite size exercise that guide you through step by step, screen by screen. The first exercise takes me into editing the price book and all the steps seem logical and the whole concept seems fine. The price book itself is a long list of details which is slightly intimidating, but the software does give you the tools to manipulate and search the data catalogued. It also becomes plain that there's a wealth of help available within the package that is well presented, clear and easy to navigate. It is pleasing to see that inside the application the help format mirrors that of Microsoft applications. When you follow the tutorials through to creating an estimate and using the job setup wizard you really begin to see what you get with this package. It takes you a couple of minutes to define the job specification, profit margins and address and then you can start estimating the job you've defined using the wizards. The wizards in EstimatorXpress are the best feature of the application from an end user perspective. They enable the user to enter data into the engine of the application while providing excellent graphical representations of what you're estimating. The wizards break the estimating process into logical steps that provide clear, quality images that are backed up with tips and useful information. In addition to providing good visualisation, the wizards make the data entry easy, logical and present the user with the finer details involved that may be overlooked. The quote that EstimatorXpress produces allows you to turn images on or off and gives you the option to provide a basic or detailed quote without the need for any typing. Simply drop in your company logo and click print. As a bricklayer that has only worked on new builds, I can genuinely say that I would be far more confident in costing a private job with the aid of this software. The access to live prices is also another great feature which must cut down the time it takes to get hold of your prices by huge amounts of time.
