I’ve always enjoyed using it, and we have become very accustomed with the software. I moved from South Africa to New Zealand and have implemented the programming part to my new company. However, vertical construction in New Zealand does not use bill of quantities and therefore a large portion of candy have become non-usable. It is a pity that the best programming software in my view from a practical point of view, and from a contractor point of view cannot be isolated and used and paid for as a standalone. Pros The whole package; but specifically the programming portion. Once you get used to it, he’s very difficult to use another package. Cons The fact that you have to pay for the whole package and not being able to only pay and use the programming function. also don’t like the fact that it does not export properly to Primavera six. Some of our project managers and clients prefer Primavera and it would be great if this exporting function works properly. Big con. being able to open multple tabs across multiple screens would aid in this. Pros The integrated package of contracts management. Reporting and tracking are standout strengths – it’s easy to see the information you actually need, and the system feels stable and reliable day to day. Overall, RIB Candy has helped streamline our processes, reduce manual effort, and improve accuracy, which makes a noticeable difference to productivity and confidence in the data we’re working with. Cons Some functions feel a bit clunky and not as intuitive as they could be, and a few tasks take more clicks than expected. There’s also a bit of a learning curve at the start, and occasional slowdowns when working with larger data sets. In addition, the package doesn’t currently make use of artificial intelligence or smart automation, which could really help streamline repetitive work and provide more intelligent insights. The support I get from Izak is commended. The integration of data between the different modules of estimating, planning, valuations, subcontract payments and cost reporting is the reason why I use the software. Pros The ability to record the complete detailed cycle from resource based estimating, to planning, to linking the bill of quantities to the program, to determining cash flows based on the construction program, to calculating of resource quantities in total, to calculating the allocation of resources over time, to preparing monthly valuations, to preparing subcontract payments and to preparing cost reporting against allowable budgetted amounts. Cons 1\. There is no security of data. For example, users / friends from different company's interchange company data amongst themselves. When employees leave company's, they take the previous company's CCS data with them. Job files and master files should have a security system to work on specific computers just like the CCS licence has. No doubt this has promoted the use of Candy but it is really concerning that a company's data can be distributed so freely without any consequence and support from the software. 2. The estimating worksheets are antiquated. There is no clip and paste functionality within the worksheets. The worksheets are not intelligent to enable one to pick up calculated values from within a worksheet as can be done on a spreadsheet. 3. The quantity calculation worksheets are antiquated. There is no functionality to use global variables, there is no copy and paste functionality, there is no ability to assign figures to use variables. The worksheets are not intelligent to enable one to pick up calculated values from within a worksheet as can be done on a spreadsheet. 4. The limitation of 40 characters in the resource file results in the need to abbreviate descriptions that are readily available for materials/resources from supplier price lists. Working off abbreviated descriptions means that you cannot use the same descriptions for procurement. Descriptions on Suppliers price lists are much more accurate and complete and usable for procurement purposes. 5. In all modules, there is no ability to readily copy a selected range of values within a column, to another input column. There are only a select few preprogrammed functions on some module menus that allow copying of values from one column to another. This should be a generalized function across all modules, that values can be copied into a column from what is in the clipboard. The ability to copy values into Candy input columns from Excell should also be a standard function. 6. In estimating, there is no option to edit the master while working on a job. This should be an option of whether the Master can be edited or not. The ability to add new items and edit items in the master on the fly as and when pricing a job will facilitate the improvement of the master with time. The master development currently stagnates as there is additional effort required to update the master after a new job has been priced, and this then does not happen. 7. Some of the reports do not update the calculations before printing, but rather use uncalculated values from within the data. This is a problem if the user does not calculate in the edit modes before printing. The printed documents then are inaccurate and there is no way of identifying this. 8. The multiuser version of Candy should not be an additional cost to users in my view. 9. There is inconsistency of how similar functions work in different modules. It is clear that different people have programmed the same functions for different modules over different times. For example the filter function in the BoQ module does not filter in the same way as the filter function in the planning module with regards to headings, the quantity calculation worksheets differ from module to module. Also the filter functions ignore the comment items. This forces one to assign headings to items. If the comment items were recognized this can save time.
