It allows instructors and students to be in contact easily and from anywhere. Pros Canvas is extremely easy to use and there are many different products that integrate seamlessly into it. The accessibility feature ensures I am ADA compliant. Cons I wish the text boxes had more features like Microsoft word. But six months later, I’m still using it. It’s actually stopped the kids from losing their highway code notes, and I’m not stuck re-explaining the same maneuvers over text anymore. Honestly, it’s worth the learning curve if you're sick of chasing teenagers for coursework they swear you never gave them. Pros It’s such a relief that these assignment templates mean I can finally stop retyping the lesson objectives every single time. I thought Canvas would be overkill for a one-person driving school, but the course module builder lets me organize theory lessons, hazard perception videos, and pre-test checklists without drowning in a million folders. Students actually check their progress now, I’m not getting texts from them every other day anymore. Cons The gradebook assumes you're running a traditional classroom, so I had to ignore half the features that don't apply to practical driving assessments. At least the grade book seems to retain some sort of record instead of occasionally wiping out random entries. Cons I am so tired of getting a bunch of unnecessary CSV files dumped into my lap instead of being given usable reports. What an irritation I also hate the fact that you cannot change the background colors. It can be challenging to create assignments and groups but since it is all on one platform, that makes keeping track of everything easy enough. Pros I like how the platform tries to centralize everything and keep it grouped by course. It is easy to look through grades, assignments, and students by class. There is also a messaging system internally, which can be useful. Cons This site can be clunky, especially for larger classes. There are times that I have to reload the page because it won't load. Also, it can be hard to create new assignments since you have to code everything precisely. Each teacher is able to customize their class as they best see fit which makes it a consistently unique experience. Cons Sometimes there are graded assignments that don't show up on the dashboard but are due weekly in the modules. It is really easy to use. It's really easy to navigate between courses and keeping them managed into one place. Cons I have had some issues with Canvas such as glitches, and bugs. However, I have never needed to use Customer Service for my needs. I believe it is still better than some of the other software's out there. I could watch videos embedded; the links were clickable. It was seamless and the opportunity to connect through messages was the icing on the cake. Pros I used Canvas as a student for over 10 years, and it was very easy to use. I could message classmates and instructors. My grades were a tab away. My courses were a tab away. I could always enlist or delist courses and revisit them if the teacher kept them on the portal. Cons The colors codes were limited for me. Between bulletins and chat groups it helped make online classes more personal. Cons I did not like how sometimes the app and browser versions occasionally did not fully sync. It did not happen often.
