I have interacted with the platform as instructor, TA, and student and each experience has been good. Pros Canvas is a user friendly platform for both instructors and students. It has a wide variety of ways to present and engage with educational materials, and is easy to transfer courses from year to year or even instructor to instructor. Cons Canvas is a bit of a heavy lift to get set up at first. Configuring the class modules and adapting for different educational needs (grad vs. undergrad; online vs. in-person) can be time consuming. Pros As a teacher, what stands out most about canvas is that everything is in one place. I can create assignments, create my announcement’s, and it has built in communication for my students. It has been the best online classroom platform I have used, and I have used many. Pros I love Canvas for my classes. I love the to-do dashboard. It helps keep me on track with assignments. Each teacher is able to customize their class as they best see fit which makes it a consistently unique experience. Cons Sometimes there are graded assignments that don't show up on the dashboard but are due weekly in the modules. I wish there was a way to assign certain pages to certain days like "remember this task" even if Canvas didn't automatically recognize it as an assignment. It was easy to use throughout my entire college experience. Pros I like how Canvas is organized. I'm able to see all of my classes and prioritized assignments and projects on the home page. I like how Canvas also allows for real time communication with my professors and my classmates, so we can work on assignments and projects together. Cons Honestly, I don't really have any complaints about Canvas as a whole. It's organized in the way that I like and understand so there is not much to complain about personally. For the price point, features and automation it's very useful and easy to navigate amount all students. It robust features include direct messaging, integrations of countless platforms and course creation. Pros The clean and modern dashboard makes it very easy for both student and instructors, it allows instructors to also view a students point-of-view. The app is also very easy and has almost all the features. Canvas also allows to you to connect third-party tools like Zoom, Google Drive, and other LTI plugins. Built in functions like turn-it in and auto graders reduces time spent on cross checking or auto grading. It also has many extensions to help with customization. Cons I think the notification overload is a little annoying and it has to be configured correctly, you can receive both app notifications and email. Sometimes there are bugs and it states "Canvas is experiencing issues" and it's down so that can be annoying. Their versatility, the tracking, and the ability to organize your courses were simplified and very easy to do. It didn't feel clunky, it was very clean, and the user end had a positive experience and as a creator, I also shared that experience as well. Pros Canvas is an extremely versatile LMS because of its capabilities to host and create different files. What I like most about canvas is the ability to create pages that allowed you to link items from various resources. As long as that link stays stable, the user would be able to open and access that link. I also liked canvases capability to track several things about my users which include log in time, how long they were logged in, and if there were any required items to complete for assignments to complete, it would be able to track their progress and score which was essential for record keeping. Cons The main thing that I liked least about canvas was the creation of pages because it did require knowledge of coding in order to make the page appear and look the way you wanted it to. Thankfully I do have experience with coding so I was able to set up the page to look and function as I wanted it to. However, for some of my colleagues, they did have a harder time with that because of their lack of knowledge of coding and they were unable to achieve the kind of look that they wanted to do. I truly don't have any complaints for Canvas. The system automatically grades assignments (unless the instructor changes the settings for manual grading). All my messages to my instructors get sent and I never had an email be sent back through Canvas. Pros The main aspect I enjoy about Canvas is the ease of understanding the system. It took me an average of thirty-minutes to understand the layout of the system. I enjoy that I can email my instructors from the software instead of opening another tab for the email website. Plus, each course has its own link so the classes are nicely organized. Cons I can't think of a single aspect that I don't like about Canvas. My institution used a different platform (forgot the name) but it is MUCH easier to navigate Canvas. The other platform that was used in the past, had too many updates which would lock people out of the system. It can be challenging to create assignments and groups but since it is all on one platform, that makes keeping track of everything easy enough. Pros I like how the platform tries to centralize everything and keep it grouped by course. It is easy to look through grades, assignments, and students by class. There is also a messaging system internally, which can be useful. Cons This site can be clunky, especially for larger classes. There are times that I have to reload the page because it won't load. Pros Canvas is a learning management system that is user-friendly with a graphic interface easy to navigate. It can seamlessly integrate different types of learning and has multiple templates that help new users to design assignments, quizzes, and discussion questions. Cons The Canvas gradebook tool can be a bit complex and intimidating for new instructors. The HTML feature of Canvas is not robust enough for the designer who wants tobe more creative. Even though it’s obviously specifically for schools, it really has great features you can use for all kinds of projects. Pros It’s incredibly user-friendly and their support service is great. You can do everything from quizzes to links to full lesson plans on Canvas, and there are a ton of add-ons to make lessons more engaging and easy to use. Cons I seriously have nothing bad to say about Canvas. It integrates with seemingly everything and I use it for everything from classes to clubs. Pros Canvas is easily accessible both on the web and your phone. The UI is seamless and intuitive. Your school can even upload a logo on the sidebar to brand the platform when students are using it. Additionally, you can put in scores for any assignment in the grade book to see what your overall grade in the class would be before the instructor even enters a grade. Cons Canvas automatically marks assignments as late even if the course did not require any online submissions for the assignments. The instructor access could have better design options so that the instructor is asked if any submission is required for an assignment so it's clear if students must have something submitted or not. So I am happy we are no longer invisible on the web. I do not want to have to go into the nitty gritty details of marketing since I do not know anything about marketing. They actually answer the phone when I call which is more than I can say for our last agency. Pros I am writing this as my laptop is literally burning my legs and the fan sounds like it is going to scream itself hoarse, so I am writing this quickly. \[sensitive content hidden\] were able to somehow get the SEO stuff going, I am relieved I do not have to tell them about my business ten thousand times. The reports are showing up in my email and I do not have to worry about them which is perfect for me. Cons The development work (coding) took forever and moved much slower then I would have liked. That chocolate chip cookie they sent for holiday was a 6/10 at best and extremely dry compared to the other cookies. Communicating with the offshore people was a challenge due to all the different time zones. Pros It is a very comprehensive LMS System that provides multiple user roles, instructure, Teaching Assistant, Student and each student will have record of his/her old courses enrolled, keeping track of everything in a course, all communication, grades, files and other things of a class organized in a clean easy to access web app and a mobile app Cons The UI needs a refresh, most of the navigation is just links, they need to make progress towards making the User interface more modern and follow a clean design system. Summarizes all the things I need to submit, plus I get notifications while on the go if I do miss something. Pros Canvas has always been my go to platform by my university. Due to the pandemic they had to invest into a learning platform that would better supplement our learning needs online. After the pandemic, our university still continuously uses canvas and man was I glad they chose this platform. I can easily see my grades, my performance and how I can better improve my academic performance. Cons The UI I think needs a bit of a revamp to make it look more modern and minimalist. Although I think the university that I study in does most of the interface design. You can organize your classes in a list or card format, you can change the colors and there are even websites that allow for further customizations. I love that you can toggle your grade on your classes and that you can easily view your to-do list and upcoming assignments. I love that you can clearly see your inbox and the overall layout of your canvas profile. Cons I don't always love the notification system and I wish there was more customization with that. For example I'd love to be notified when my grade gets entered but not so much when my teacher is editing canvas and assignments and now I have 20 notifications about updates for that class. Yes, it is nice but not always necessary. I also had a hard time when using Canvas on my mobile device. I had a harder time navigating assignments and sometimes I couldn't access things properly like I could on my desktop.
