### "Canvas education platform"

March 22, 2022

3.0

Having used Blackboard before and then Brightspace, I find Canvas to be more awkward than the other two. It is not as intuitive as

Pros

Provides basic functions for any education platform. You can put test, learning materials, give grades, etc. The previous semesters course materials can easily be migrated to the present term dashboard.

Cons

I have tried to upload large files such as pre recorded lectures and Canvas can be stuck in a perpetual loop with no file being uploaded. There is a bit of a learning curve for inputting assignments though.

Reason for choosing Canvas

I was forced to use it.

### "Best of the bunch (but still not stellar)"

May 11, 2021

5.0

I've been a full-time professor for six years now, and before that I was a full-time graduate student for three, and an adjunct instructor for another six, not to mention the time I spent as an undergraduate myself, when LMS software was becoming ubiquitous. This means that I've used virtually every LMS package out there as either an instructor or a student (or both), and despite its bugaboos and flaws, Canvas continues to outpace the others in terms of usability, innovation, and overall quality.

Pros

I've used the Canvas learning management system (LMS) as both a student and an instructor for years now, and I can say with a high level of confidence that it is, by far, the best LMS available today. It strikes a good balance between available features and ease of use, meaning instructors have a reasonably high level of customization at their fingertips at the course level, but students won't be confused or overwhelmed since every Canvas course retains certain similarities that can't be altered (e.g., navigation). There also appears to be a great deal of control that can be exerted by administrators in terms of locking down (or opening up) features, so it can be tweaked accordingly for any given institution. There are a LOT of features available to instructors in Canvas, and those can be expanded indefinitely by adding third-party integrations.

Cons

There are a range of frustrating quirks, missing features that require hack-y workarounds, confusing user interface issues, and inexplicable limitations that regular users will run into with routine use. For example, if you create an assignment and enable peer reviews of that assignment, it is difficult for students to figure out how to access the documents they are supposed to evaluate. Once they do find them, the embedded document editor is buggy and limited, and occasionally fails to save student edits. On top of all of this, if peer reviews are set to "anonymous," the embedded editor is disabled entirely--not just for students, but for the instructor as well, making it impossible to make inline comments or suggestions. Even more frustrating is the Canvas/Instructure support website, with its arcane, verbose design and overreliance on "community" message boards instead of dedicated agents to solve problems.

### "Review on Canvas"

August 6, 2022

5.0

As a user of 2 years and counting, I am very satisfied with my overall experience with Canvas and am very likely to share it with others. It is software that will continue to be used in the future; it's a major improvement to online learning.

Pros

This software is very well organised with minor issues. I think as a user of 2+ years, I am extremely satisfied with the software. Although there are some minor improvements to be made, I believe that this software is the future of remote higher education.

Cons

I think my major complaint about this software would be the fact that hiding and/or deleting certain courses' cards/lists isn't an option. When one year is over and another begins, half of the courses still on my dashboard can be considered clutter and are no longer needed. I think another feature that would make organising easier is editing the name of the course on my dashboard. Organisations usually title their courses in the same format with minimal changes which does make it harder to differentiate from one another. Adding subtle features that allow for personalising your dashboard without compromising the content of the courses would be helpful, I believe.

### "CANVAS-A Great LMS"

February 28, 2022

5.0

Overall Canvas has made my job as a professor more fluid and convenient. It has saved me many hours of time and has provided my students with a great tool to succeed in college. I have a very positive opinion of this LMS and am glad my institution uses it. There are some things about it that I am not too happy with, but the positives greatly outweigh the negatives.

Pros

The thing I like most about Canvas is the user interface and the ease of use. Canvas makes it very easy to provide students with all course materials that used to be copied and handed out in class. Not only does this save time and effort, but it is great for the environment. I have been trained several times on Canvas though it is quite easy to learn and use. Once you become accustomed to the nuances of using it, you start to appreciate its design. I really appreciate the tools that are available with Canvas such as the attendance feature and the ability to integrate publisher's materials.

Cons

The thing I like least about Canvas is the lack of ease of importing test banks from publishers. I am not sure if this is due to Canvas or the publishers. But I try to avoid using quizzes as much as possible. I hate to type 60 questions and answers for each test and for each class. I usually give 5 exams per class and I typically teach 3 different classes.

### "One of the Better Learning Management Systems on the Market"

December 28, 2020

4.0

When I heard that my work was switching from our old custom-built learning platform to Canvas, I was excited. Having already used Canvas as a student, I knew that we would be switching to a much better quality experience. Canvas is overall easy to deploy and use. Though for the leading learning management system on the market, you would wish some of its rougher edges, such as navigation, would be ironed out. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to most as a quality learning management system.

Pros

It is easy to see why Canvas is one of the most well-known and well-used learning management systems by schools and colleges across America. Its simple customizable interface, mobile app, and many integrations are definitely a step up from moodle, blackboard, and other more common systems of a generation ago. I have used it both as a student and as a teacher. I appreciate its robust features (discussion boards, file integration, quizzes, announcements, custom pages, assignment options, html design). Classes are usually organized via pages and the "modules" page which allows the building of a customized course flow. If there is something you want to be able to post to your class website Canvas probably makes it possible, and most features have many options. Your online assignment settings can be highly customized with settings such as when the assignment in visible, what kind of submissions and documents are accepted, and what category of grade the assignment is. Likewise the online quiz/test maker is fairly robust, allowing for most question types, has some auto-grading capabilities, and offers taker-friendly features like question flagging, test timer, and unfinished question reminders. Perhaps one of its best features is its plug-ins. Canvas works with other popular providers to integrate their products into Canvas. Our school uses the very well-designed Zoom plug-in for scheduling and posting recordings for our virtual classes as well as others including WebEx and Kaltura.

Cons

While Canvas is an excellent learning management system it is far from perfect and there is still definite room for improvement. The main feature I have found frustrating is its navigation. There is no universal back button which means that rather than easily going back to a previous page you have to use a combination of your web browser back button and the course menu. Each course has a helpful customizable sidebar with major navigation links, but this is not "sticky" and so you may need to be scroll to find it on longer pages. While the online quizzes/tests are a step up for many platforms, like google forms, but not as robust as such an important feature could be. Matching questions have no easy way to tracked used answers, which can make questions with many options harder to track. Adding alternative answers for fill-in-the-blank questions can be cumbersome. Not all plug-ins are of equal quality either, but this is probably at least partly the responsibility of the developer. The mobile app works well in general but occasionally I have seen issues such as auto-rotating video screens or issues with certain quiz questions.

Reason for choosing Canvas

In general Canvas has a more robust feature set, is more familiar, and offers a more polished experience than these other platforms.

I have a mother who is a teacher and uses canvas as a grade book and online learning tool. I am also a college student who takes online classes through canvas and have been doing so for over two years.

Pros

I like that teachers are able to modify their course throughout the semester to improve their course and help their students succeed.

Cons

I wish all of the assignments automatically appeared on the calendar to ensure that students don’t miss assignments.

### "Helpful in Course Registration, Tracking and Grading"

January 27, 2022

4.0

Pros

GradeBook and the means of conversation are perhaps the best features, unparalleled by any other learning management portal. With GradeBook, grading becomes a cake walk, and as a TA and a student, I could easily get in touch with students through different means of conversations like Announcements, Discussion Boards, comments/replies on both of these like Facebook, and even private message.

Cons

The Dashboard could perhaps be more intuitive. Sometimes, I couldn't get latest announcements or notifications on the Dashboard. I am not sure if this is a bug or some misconfiguration. Also, the videos in the My Media tab under any course doesn't allow downloading videos. It gives an option to download them in alternative formats, like Epub, .txt, .mp3, which are not very helpful. Also, I think a video can't be converted to .epub so that option shouldn't have been there.

### "A Fantastic Platform for Team/Class Oriented Organization"

August 28, 2019

5.0

Canvas has been a great platform in my career as a student and as an employee. From being able to take quizzes directly on the platform, to getting involved in very thoughtful discussions, Canvas has been something that has facilitated my learning experiences, inside the classroom and in the office. The digitalization of coursework, readings, and writings, has made a positive impact on the environment, and also allows its users to take their work with them wherever they go- as everything is accessible via the mobile app, or through the website on their laptop. This has made the experience absolutely positive for me and those who I have studied and worked with over the years.

Pros

Canvas is a software that I have been using for multiple years now, having used it originally in school, and now in college at Georgetown University while also making use of the software's organizational benefits as an Intern at EY. There are a few aspects of this program that stand out to me as being significantly beneficial. Firstly, Canvas, as a platform, is used for connecting users in an organization (class, work project, team, etc.) under one platform. The administrator (boss, professor, team leader) can then publish documents, quizzes, links, and other files so that its users can all view them, without the need for the administrator to send these files to each user individually. Perhaps the largest pro of a software like Canvas is that, on the same platform where files are published and shared with others, users can also engage in blog posts, discussions, Zoom conferences, and more features; all of which allow them to communicate with and learn from each other while also becoming familiar with any material posted by their boss, team leader, or professor. This synergy is what makes canvas special and unique; it is a one-stop-shop for individuals in an organization to parttake in multiple means of learning, all in the same location.

Cons

Despite being a phenomenal software platform, perhaps one of its downfalls is that, when using CANVAS in school or in college, the dashboard can get relatively messy. When enrolled in many different classes across different semesters, older classes tend to stay on your dashboard and this can make it difficult to keep your new classes a priority at first glance. While this is easy to edit in your Canvas settings, I personally believe this should be something that the user can edit from the homepage. In addition, it would be a large plus to the aspect of organization if users could customize the menu bar on the left side of the website, to only show the tabs they want to see for each class or project (files, modules, pages, discussions, announcements, grades, etc.)

### "Leading platform for online and offline teaching and learning"

April 28, 2022

5.0

My experience is exceptionally positive. I was behind an early implementation of this software at the Departmental level, so, it gave me an opportunity to test and comment on preview of many early features.

Pros

This is an exceptionally well-developed and maintained teaching and learning platform. There are many features to use and each one can establish its own way to use CANVAS. It has regular updates and all minor problems identified are sorted out in no time; great online support is also available. Students prefer this platform rather than an alternative one used.

Cons

With so many features, it is quite easy to feel lost at the beginning. As soon as you start practicing, your experience is greatly improved in no time.

### "Key Student Resource"

March 25, 2022

4.0

I would choose Canvas over other competitors because of it's cleaner, more user-friendly interface. It has most, if not all the essential tools for learning, and is overall successful at organizing multiple classes, many students, and all the personal information as well as classroom information.

Pros

More organized and navigable than other platform options, Canvas has all the resources one needs for courses, plus more! It's useful for in-person, remote, or synchronous learning, creating a digital classroom environment where users can communicate with one another, and have all the assignments and tools for those, as well as calendars in one place, easy to find. It's customizable for each and every student.

Cons

Sometimes, features seem hidden or difficult to find. They could be assignments or links tucked away in multiple pages. A page may be accessed using multiple routes, but appear somewhat different depending on how you reached it. The grading calculator should have an option for more advanced tools so grades can be more accurate, as there are always nuances.

### "Canvas is a good option for an LMS"

April 7, 2023

4.0

Overall, Canvas has been a great product for my company. I think that it opens up some possibilities we didn't have before.

Pros

I like that there are so many add on's and apps that you can integrate with your Canvas instance. Canvas didn't quite provide us with everything we were looking for, but with their large library of other companies that we could partner with, we were able to get the features that we needed for our courses.

Cons

I feel that there are some areas I wish I had more control over. For example, I wish I could customize the HTML for quizzes.

### "Canvas Online and In the Classroom"

January 18, 2022

5.0

I think Canvas is very easy to use. I know I don’t use all the features it offers, but that may be a good thing about the program - each teacher can personalize their canvas courses.

Pros

Canvas makes it easy to personalize your course. I always choose an image to identify the class. This can be a photo or gif file. I plan my course using modules. The assignments can be linked to the modules. Creating assignments automatically creates a day by day syllabus. I can take attendance, or not, and it can be averaged into grades, or not. We can have online discussions which works for online only classes, but I have also used it in classes where we meet face to face. There is a feature where you can create a page with information about a topic. I routinely use this. Linking to this page is easy - I can link to a page that explains some task in detail in an assignment.

Cons

I have learned to like this program a lot, particularly since we had to teach online. I can’t think of anything I would change about this software. I notice that it is constantly being improved.

### "Canvas stands above the rest as viable LMS platform"

March 12, 2022

5.0

The overall experience has been good. There are some little things here and there to understand. Students have no complaints which is a good thing and the mobile apps work well.

Pros

The platform is easy to use and configure. There is a slight learning curve with some of the configurations - such as course vs term dates. Overall, however, the ease of use for faculty and students is outstanding.

Cons

I did notice one quirk with discussion assignments. If an assignment is submitted but not graded - setting any unsubmitted assignments to the default of 0 as a placeholder grade overwrites the submissions. This differs from other assignment types such as a quiz.

### "One of the best Learning Management Systems!"

October 4, 2022

5.0

Overall, my experience with Canvas has been great. Compared to the traditional systems of keeping track of grades and assignments over papers, Canvas has made life easier. I no longer need to make note of my upcoming deadlines and grades in a notebook, since I can get all this information from the software.

Pros

Canvas is a very useful software and is one of the best Learning Management systems can be utilized by schools to better manage their systems. It has a great user interface, which help even beginners to navigate it easily, and this is a very important aspect since school going kids can easily use the software. The navigation is smooth on desktop/laptop and there is also a mobile application. The notifications will be sent from the software and also one can get them via email. This is super useful in keeping things digital and avoiding excessive wastage of resources like papers and pens.

Cons

There are not many big issues I have faced while using Canvas, but at times the notifications get delayed. This is not major unless there is a critical notification that needs immediate attention.

### "A Wonderful Educational Platform"

August 4, 2022

5.0

Pros

Canvas was incredibly easy to use and had great tracking features on the dashboard and a calendar that allows users to easily see upcoming assignments/assessments and when they are due. It was the perfect platform for asynchronous learning and did a really great job at keeping everyone on track. I also love the positive reinforcement provided when something is turned in where some sort of confetti with appear on the screen!

Cons

Canvas lacked two very important features: the ability to easily chat with created teams and a way to notify the manager/teacher that you reached out to support if there were an issue. When it came to being broken up into teams, while there were group chats, they were not easy to navigate and did not pop up if someone wrote a message. Often people would just look for other ways to communicate since you could not chat across screens. Next, if there were a technical issue with Canvas it would be on the student to take a screenshot of their chat with customer service and send it to their teacher if they wanted to avoid penalty. It would be awesome if there were an option for a user to send their chat and report to their teacher right after talking with support rather than having to do it themselves.

### "CANVAS Student Review"

July 29, 2022

4.0

My overall experience with canvas has been very organised and focused, canvas software is very specifc and striaght to the point. it helped me with access to a great and organised platform where i can schedule and meet my objectives.

Pros

as a student Canvas software is a very convenient easy tool to use for my studies, with features that makes it easy to navigate the platform. Canvas has a very straight forward interface layout with less irrelevent information, it has features like activity tracking , progress tracking, grading, learning management and many more that helps keep focus on my objectives with less or little distractive information.

Cons

Just like any other product it is more likey that there wil be a few inconveniences depending on capabilities and overall perfomance of the product. for me it is the interface, the interface looks very tired and less exciting to surf and engage with the product. things like pop ups, course recommendations, relavent newsletters and a tour guide could be very useful to improve or evolve the product.

### "The Blackboard Slayer"

August 1, 2022

5.0

The benefits of canvas over blackboard make it the clear winner. It built the habit of checking my grades and checking the schedule for more work really easy and convenient.

Pros

Canvas is a flexible learning management platform that integrates well with zoom, panopto, proprietary websites, and more. It helps students take exams and submit homework with reliable automatic grading and robust grade calculations. It does a good job at providing an efficient interface between teacher and learner, and helps students make better study habits. Very happy user of CANVAS

Cons

The biggest drawback of using canvas is easily the possibility that an administrator doesn't set their course up efficiently. However, this is no fault of the platform itself as many make it perfectly easy to use and reliable.

### "My Experience with Canvas"

June 7, 2022

4.0

Overall, I have had a distinctly positive experience with Canvas. Though it has not been my favorite product to use, it gets the job done (which is all I can truly ask for)

Pros

When I've used Canvas, it's always been free since I'm a student. This is a very glorious plus for me as no addition payments are required in general. Canvas is a pretty decent platform that centralizes (to a degree) all relevant class information. The discussions and announcements panes allow for easy communication between students and teachers.

Cons

I don't love the interface and find it confusing to navigate at times. I prefer taking the information from the Canvas platform and moving it to something else, such as Google Calendar or a physical notebook. Overall, I believe it does its job well, but not great.

### "The BEST Classroom Management Software"

My overall experience with Canvas is incredibly positive and with very few technical faults.

Pros

This may be a niche item of interest, but one of the best things about Canvas as a student is the ability to tell what grades I need to retrieve to attain my required grade in a class, which is highly useful and has single-handedly saved me LOTS of stress over the years.

Cons

If there was one quality I had to rank lowest on the Canvas platform, it would be the confusing nature of specific assignments and their due dates, which aren’t apparent when a discussion post has multiple due dates for separate required responses.

### "Deep Dive into Canvas"

August 25, 2021

5.0

It is a reliable way to manage your classroom and provide content. You can build a course from scratch, creating modules, assignments, and tests. Then you may combine them with Google Docs (to ensure collaboration). Also, you can put hyperlinks and images, upload videos and files (PowerPoint or PDF), and give instructions. Students might record themselves and use it for self- or peer correction. On the other hand, you can track their performance and grade them in percentages or letters by Speedgrader (the fastest way possible). Rubrics is a place you make assignments, add discussions, and set criteria/ratings. Then the Speedgrader calculates the learners' points automatically. The platform provides direct access to Google through the Installed apps. By using the Redirect tool, you can reach out to the sites functioning inside Canvas.

Pros

On the Dashboard, you can set a Homepage and store the class data. Then you may customize each course or group with templates in different colors, also add images (from Adobe Spark Post). During the classes, you might assign groups or individual students. I like the options provided for Quizzes (Multiple choice, True/False, Fill in the blanks, Matching). For increasing learners' motivation, you can make the Quizzes and Surveys graded. For efficient learning, you may restrict the number of attempts, also hide the correct answers to make students figure them out. For decreasing cheating, you might put a time limit so that students cannot check the answers in their coursebooks or on the Internet. In addition, you can create sets of questions in the Question Bank, then re-arrange them by using the Preview option. Being pulled randomly from this bank, they form alternative quizzes. In this respect, each student will work on a different set of questions and cannot exchange information with others. This might be one of the most impactful features.

Cons

Especially for me, the Quizzes were difficult for operating. But given that each function on the Navigation bar has its tutorial panel with detailed guidance, it is possible to deal with any issue following the steps suggested.
