Cons One of the least likable aspects of Canvas is its notification system, which can feel overwhelming if not managed properly. I submit my assignments, check emails, grades, and calendar. It is easily the best one I have used for school. Pros Canvas has made my higher education journey doable. Everything I need to access daily is easily found and achieved. Cons I don't like having to go back to the home page of canvas in order to use another option. It's an amazing software for students and professionals. It makes things incredibly easy and does so much of the organization work for you. Its so easy to keep on track with things when your working with Canvas Pros How centralized everything is. I use it as a student. I love the some space where I can see all my one classes in one place, with all important information posted in the forefront making it so easy to navigate. I really enjoy how functional the sidebar is as well, allowing me to see all my massages, documents, etc... in one single place that is easy to view everything all at once. Cons I had no major issues with Canvas. There was the occasional experience where things would buffer longer than a average, but that only occurred during live events when there were many people logging into the same server Review Source BE Breanne E. Assignments are easy to create, edit, and rearrange. Collapsible modules keep workflow tidy. Pros User-friendly. The interface makes logical sense and loads quickly with few errors. I enjoy being able to attach grading rubrics to assignments. Cons The navigation settings (which tools to make visible on the sidebar) are buried/hard to find. It makes organizing your work very easy. As an educator, I think Canvas is mostly easy to use. But, there are certainly some areas (mainly grading) that could use an upgrade. Pros It's really easy to understand where to find things. I think the interface is clear, legible, and easily navigable. Cons From the teacher side, sometimes grade publishing is confusing. It's not always so clear how to make sure your feedback is posted in a visible way along with the grades. Once you get the hang of it, it’s great for managing school tasks, but it would be even better if the setup and syncing were simpler. It’s worth trying out, especially if you have a lot of assignments to track. Pros useful tool for organizing assignments, notes, and deadlines. It makes it easy to keep track of school work by organizing everything in one place. The interface is clean, and the calendar feature helps me stay on top of due dates. It's great for managing multiple classes without feeling overwhelmed. Cons While Canvas is helpful, it can be a bit confusing at first. Some features aren't very intuitive, so it took me a little while to figure them out. January 11, 2025 4.0 Canvas makes course/module creation, management, and marking an absolute breeze. As a university administrator I remember life before and after Canvas and oh my it was such an upgrade. It has a simple backend, so you don’t need to be a tech guru to master it, although initial module set up can be tedious. Accessing submitted assignments and marking is incredibly easy for both teachers and admin, and from my experience students found it pretty easy to upload as well. Pros Quick and simple LMS for all things course related, making an admins life much easier. Announcements are also a great feature, that really help with staff to student communication. Throughout there's nearly 10 years of school. I saw the product change and evolved to meet the needs of its users. I remember preferring the platform distinctly over competitors like slack. I even used it as a tutor which provided the functionality of the professor point of view and the grading function on canvas was very easy to use and allowed the provision of detailed feedback in addition to any manner of assignment you might desire Pros I used canvas at various points throughout my academic career and compared to its competitors. It seemed to be the most comprehensive and user interface friendly. I remember it having a good deal of features that were highly useful for students and professors to connect and enhance the learning experience Cons Maybe one of the worst things about canvas is the way that if an assignment is missed or late, even if it's not a big deal for the course, the interface will show a big scary red missing indicator Switched from [Slack](https://www.capterra.com/p/135003/Slack/) It was not my decision. I set up 3 different courses and used every week. I love canvas. It is easy to use. My students could get their assignment completed easily. I like how it links to outside resources easily and pairs with other technology. Pros It is easy to use whether you are a professor or student. As a Professor I love that I can switch the between my view and the view that my students see. Cons I don't like how you have to set up new classes in canvas. It would be nice if you could set up due dates all at once instead of having to go through assignments one by one. Also I don't like that you have to adjust the ending date of the semester. Lecturer Higher Education Used the software for: 2+ years ### "A decent Learning Management System (LMS)" January 20, 2025 4.0 Overall, I Canvas is a solid offering but has minor inconveniences which remain unaddressed. Pros Canvas is a solid Learning Management System (LMS) which has the functionality that one would typically expect, including hosting course/subject content, having a student roster for a given course, supporting the posting of announcements and hosting discussion forums. Quizzes and assignments can also be created and graded via the system. Students groups are supported and I particularly like the functionality which allows students to form their own groups. Cons Canvas wants you to work within the system and it makes it difficult to grade assignments outside of Canvas. I use spreadsheets to capture my assignment marks and although it is possible to upload the marks there is no functionality for uploading my comments on the assignments. I address this by using third-party scripts which take advantage of Canvas's API but I imagine this would be beyond the reach of typical users. Pros I liked the visual aesthetics and organization of features that Canvas has to offer. Cons I did not like how difficult it could be to add other media to course pages. Videos and sound bites are difficult to incorporate. Many Departments of Corrections (DOC) have been able to provide students with this LMS while maintaining their security. Cons Occasionally, I have issues creating quizzes, but I believe that is a user error rather than an issue with Canvas. There has been no better was to stay in to of a child's schooling than Canvas. Cons Lots of opportunity to use other programs inside of canvas but not all were active.
