Its very easy to learn, use and quick start. If you someone wants to learn and start working with NoSql, MongoDB is the best option. Pros It is document oriented database. Json is stored directly in database, so no need any middle-ware. highly scale-able. Very easy to use. Cons No GUI. need to use Compass separately. More Validation options at Document level. April 22, 2019 5.0 Pros When it comes to NoSQL database, MongoDB is the choice for every web developer. It has collections in it and every collection has records in it. Its ORM (Object Relational Mapping) is one of its kind which makes the database very efficient and clutter free. One of the greatest principle is schema-less behavior, where the data type of an object is not strict to its usage. It especially useful for working with large sets of distributed data. MongoDB can be used with any kind of backend technology stack like Django, Node.js, etc. It comes with a DB explorer called compass which is useful to explore the database and its various collections. Cons There won't be any pitfall in it until you need joins and aggregate queries in your data. It's not optimnized for such queries. Instructions on installing software is straightforward. Pricing is great. Their monitoring and backup tools are great and resourceful. MongoDB simplifies the way that data is stored and handled. Pros MongoDB is a good storage system that handles data in a different way than the traditional relational databases. MongoDB is very flexible with the use of documents with a non strict schema instead of the traditional rows and columns system with a predefined schema. MongoDB is a great database for working with big data and IOT (Internet of Things) related projects with very good performance. MongoDB is highly scalable when using Sharding (horizontal scaling), distribuiting and accessing data across several servers, instead of scaling up adding more hardware resources. Cons When developing apps that grow/change constantly in scope and data, you have to handle different methods to support documents with different data structure. Moving from relational databases to NoSQL databases is hard, because you have to change paradigms in the way that you work with data. The JSON like structure of MongoDB documents is instantly familiar with javascript developers. MongoDB generates random id's automatically for every document created making it that no particular 2 or more documents can have the same key even across multiple mongoDB instances. This allows for easy scaling. Cons MongoDB does not have built in support for auto incrementing id's that are common in sql databases. These bring a ton of different advantages/disadvantages to the table. It really does feel like most alternatives are offering only part of the MongoDB feature-set. With major cloud providers now offering MongoDB as a managed service, this is a huge victory for them since management is the biggest downside to the product. Pros Mongo sets the bar for features when it comes to non-relational databases. From clustering to full-text indexing to geospatial indexes, its extremely hard to beat what MongoDB offers. It's easy to use from a developer perspective and easy to load and query data. Cons The operations side of Mongo can be a completely different story. I hope they can do something with the querys over it so is not as easy as SQL. Pros Easy setup Easy conection Like relationals querys tools (not relationals at all ) Several plataforms compatibility windows , linux ,etc Easy instalation on server and exposition to internet. Good documentations Nice comunnity Cons We have issues with the hard relationls querys we are normally used to . But after some coding we developed and equivallent. It's easy to set up, scales well and it performs great for most CRUD applications. Especially for Javascript devs, you feel right at home with its JSON-like document store. Not much else to say about it, if I was quickly creating an application and time spent in development was critical, I'd almost definitely use MongoDB. Pros Mongodb is my goto database when storing huge amounts of data for my personal projects. You can easily install it in your local system and can use it easily or you can go to mongodb atlas where you can have their database with limited storage for free. But that works for me. Also, you can easily find tutorials and documents if you are struck anywhere. Cons There is nothing to dislike about MongoDB. But I have not seen any GUI see MongoDB data in a local system for MySQL there is Mysql workbench but for MongoDB, I have no idea whether any GUI tool exists or not. March 24, 2021 4.0 Their tech demos, and updated documentation was excellent, but their predatory sales tactics left me wanting nothing to do with anything MongoDB. Pros Was looking into a solution for building out an offline first mobile application, and came across MongoDB Realm. Seemed very promising, although difficult to find the correct docs, as Google still returns some realm.io results, which didn't seem to be that up to date. In the end we didn't end up using them, as there would be an incredible developer cost to integrate our existing backend to talk with MongoDB Realm. Cons Their sales tactics. After signing up for the trial, I received multiple emails which I promptly ignored, as I had no intention in talking with their sales associate. The sales associate then found me on LinkedIn, found who my manager was, and started emailing him until he got a response from us. I then sat down with their sales guy and a sales engineer in a meeting where we pretty much went over that their tech is cool, but our cost to integrate with it, is much to high, something we had figured out before the meeting. Also the security part it is far more secure and reliable compared to other memcached providers. Migration fro traditional RDBMS system is as well smooth without much struggle. Cons Memory/RAM useage shoots-up to roof most of the times, degraded performance when working on the very large databses.
