### "If you are executing manual test cases on a large scale then Test Rail is for you"

December 20, 2018

4.0

Having using various test management suites TestRail does excel in that it was built to run manual test cases and display results in an easy glance for the whole team. Linking to defects is simple, generating a report when the test run is complete. I feel like reusing regression suites could be improved, it does what it is meant to however you have to repeat several steps each time you want to generate a regression suite. Some areas for improvement would be a test case type for API tests, I am sure everyone needs this but struggles to find a way to record this data.

Pros

I think report generation is the strong suit of Test rail, the percentage pie chart of passed, failed blocked cases at a glance make daily reporting for scrum stand up meetings ideal. Integration with Jira is excellent, although some room for improvement.

Cons

Trying to do something simple like import test case steps from a .csv is not so easy. You can import a suite but that is not ideal. Trying to duplicate cases can be tedious, let's say you have a lot of cases, trying to copy paste them in to various projects is a lot of hassle, it is surprising they have not addressed issues like this after so many years.

### "TestRail usage review "

October 13, 2025

4.0

It is good, our company is using TestRail for over 5 years now. We like the easy of use of the tool. We use it for testcase management, test run creation and execution for functional and regression tests. Value for money is good.

Pros

TestRail is a perfect solution for testcase management. Our team uses the features of milestone creation, test runs and execution analytics of the tool. My favorite feature of TestRail is the ability to add custom fields that can be specific to your project needs.

Cons

1\. I would like to use TestRail to expand the capabilities to add confluence documentations as well along with the Jira Tasks 2. Another thing I am not a fan of is the attachments maintenance. It is very hard to navigate to the attached documents or files from a testcase 3. Customer service is not great, we opened couple of issues over the period of time but the responses and updates were too slow or none. In short website performance is good but when you hit bugs there is a gap

### "TestRail in 4 years"

March 30, 2026

5.0

It’s a dependable tool for keeping test cases structured and making regression cycles repeatable, and it gives good visibility into what’s been executed and what still needs attention. Even though some parts could be smoother—especially around bulk maintenance and reporting—it’s still effective for organizing QA work and keeping a clear history of testing over time.

Pros

it brings structure and consistency to testing by keeping test cases organized in a clear hierarchy, which makes it easy to maintain coverage over time. I also really value the way it supports repeatable execution through test runs and results tracking—so regression cycles feel more controlled, progress is visible at a glance, and there’s a reliable history of what was tested and what needs re-testing after the dev fixes.

Cons

maintaining a large test library can feel a bit manual—bulk updates, reorganizing sections, or refactoring lots of cases takes time and can be tedious. The UI can also feel a little clunky in places (especially around editing steps and keeping formatting consistent), and reporting is sometimes not as flexible as you’d want without extra effort to slice results the way a team needs for release readiness.

### "Mid-level testing tool"

October 23, 2025

1.0

Generally mid, not impressed by it but it is a tool that has been around for a long time so it has a lot of general features.

Pros

I liked that it's been around for a long time so it has a lot of legacy features that have been around for a long time.

Cons

The fact that it is a legacy tool, it feels old and complex to use. It's also very expensive. And customer service has paywalls.

### "Quality Assured"

December 2, 2024

TestRail was a huge step up from our previous process which was a Google Sheet.

Pros

It helps our QA team with managing regression testing between multiple remote QA engineers. Adding new test cases is easy, and being able to go back and see who tested each case is extremely valuable.

Cons

Getting all of our test cases moved over to TestRail was a huge undertaking, but once done, maintaining has been easy.

### "Used to be great, now it is horrible"

February 20, 2023

1.0

I've been told their team was decimated after it was bought out. They have only 20 people to handle 11,000 customers. A product that is supposed to be for QA, is not QA'd before releases. If you are considering this product my advice is to run in another direction. You will be disappointed if you invest in TestRail.

Pros

I loved it before it was sold. It was solid, easy to use, and made our work flow simple and efficient. That is no longer the case

Cons

Since it was bought out, it is now horrific. Test data disappears or is inaccessible. Test runs disappear. EVERY single release is extremely buggy. And knowing that, they still continue to push the release in waves to other customers instead of fixing high priority issues first. Tickets are opened and we get the canned "we're working on it" but rarely are bugs fixed correctly the first time (if at all). We have had months of work disappear with a single release. We've had things break where we were unable to access our tests for days or even weeks at a time. I went from convincing my entire company to join in to use this product, to now only having 3 of us left who will touch it. It's just sad how far it has fallen.

### "Everything we needed at half the cost"

February 28, 2020

4.0

We are better able to track our software testing and coverage with this tool.

Pros

I love the way they setup billing, every month you it automatically detects how many active users you have and you pay for that instead of being roped into a set amount of licenses. This has been incredibly helpful as we've gone through hiring, layoffs, and bringing on offshore contracted workers. Great flexibility! Another thing I like a lot are the UI Scripts, where you can customize the instance adding in or removing features and functionality. They are very powerful and super useful for us.

Cons

It bugs me that every time you close a test run the test case id numbers have a huge spike, a case we created today had the id number of over 11 million even though we have less than 50,000 cases total in our library. I also do not like the way you add and remove tests from a run. It is a bit awkward and hard to see exactly what tests you're adding and removing.

Switched from

[Tricentis qTest](https://www.capterra.com/p/173762/qTest/)

We switched from qTest to Test Rail because qTest was more than double the cost of Test Rail with absolutely no feature difference for what we needed/used.

### "Solid Test Management tool with room to improve usability and UI"

September 29, 2025

4.0

Reliable tool for test management, improves collaboration and quality tracking, though it comes with a learning curve it is not hard and can be learned quick.

Pros

TestRail has a clear structure for managing test cases and suites, good visibility for teams, and smooth integrations with issue trackers.

Cons

Reporting can feel limited and customization options require extra effort, also UI could be more intuitive for new users.

### "TestRail: Great for companies willing to pay for it!"

January 17, 2019

4.0

Working on a Global team, TestRail enabled everyone to have a seat at the Test Case management/creation table. Editing existing test cases was very easy to do, and the GUI makes it easy to find any existing Test Case you are looking for.

Pros

First of all, TestRail is an extremely smarter way to track and maintain test cases than using Excel. I like how easy it is to create new projects, create custom fields, create test runs, and generate good looking reports to submit to your managers. The GUI takes a little bit to get used to, but once you get a hand of all of the key-shortcuts moving around the application is easy!

Cons

My least favorite part about this software is the JIRA plug in. In order to see the linked test cases from TestRail in JIRA, you need to have a TestRail account. In my company only the testing team had TestRail accounts, while the rest of R&D didn't. While it was helpful for me as a tester to see the linked test cases on a JIRA bug, when we started off with TestRail we had assumed everyone in the R&D department would be able to see this information so we could be more transparent in our testing. My company was not willing to pay for 100 TestRail accounts, so this was a bummer. If yours is then TestRail might be right for you!

### "Serves a purpose and moves away from Excel"

May 6, 2025

4.0

Overall have been satisfied with testrail as it has meta purpose. we have moved away from Excel test management.

Pros

Simple and easy to read summary reports that dynamically updated as our users updated their tests. Each test run could be evaluated individually and at an aggregate level of multiple distinct runs

Cons

The uploading of tests (at least in the set up we had) seemed laborious and lacked suitable configuration.

### "TestRail - test management better than competitors."

June 3, 2022

4.0

I used TestRail in my previous company and I am using it in my current one. Firstly, it is easy to use, and all options and settings are close at hand. The structure of test management is also pretty clear. Projects -> Suites -> Sections -> Test cases. Easy to handle and maintain. The whole system is quite simple to integrate with e.g. Jenkins, Cypress, or Jira through the TestRail API. Some products are seamlessly integrated - like Jira, but for some products, scripts have to be written from scratch. Also, thanks to the fact that TR is widely used, there is plenty of help on the internet. Reporting and analysis can be adjusted to the user's needs and set to execute automatically, which can reduce the amount of work. Charts and analyses are easy to understand and can be expanded with the data you need. A big advantage is test parametrization and the ability to recognize and use test data sets. That allows having significantly fewer test cases to maintain. Product is being constantly developed and the customer service is good. As for the downsides, sometimes minor bugs appear e.g. for some time there were duplicated input fields during test case creation/edition - nothing crucial, but it could be annoying. It was fixed two months later and now everything works correctly. The price is quite high and depends on the number of users. All in all, in my opinion, TestRail is the best on the market providing user-friendly testing management.

Pros

The product is constantly developing. A lot of functionalities - API, test structure, reports, bug integrations, milestones, etc. Ease of use. Customizability. Integration with other software (e.g. Jira, Cypress, etc.)

Cons

Minor bugs. Quite a high price. Rather plain design (not really intuitive)

### "Efficient software for Test Case management"

March 9, 2020

4.0

Overall I'd really recommend Test rail for Test case management.

Pros

1\. Ability to create test plans and test case for multiple features at once. 2. Ability to configure test cases in combination for different environments and browsers, OS etc. 3. Ability to present detailed reports to stakeholder and management. 4. Integration with Jira eases the need to map to a user story. 5. The test plan hierarchy helps to create test cases easily and it helps reduce redundancy between test cases. 6. Very easy to navigate using the user interface. 6. Ability to lock a test plan where it can no further be modified. 7. Able to run test cases in multiple environment and check the run history. 8. Able to download and email reports to management.

Cons

Searching for a past completed story is difficult unless to navigate from Jira. Marking a test case run as passed has too many steps involved. Id love if it has ability to record screen as well as attaching screenshot to a test step/ I'd also love if I can pass/fail each step of a test case and not the test case as a whole.

### "Powerful test case management system with friendly support"

August 2, 2018

5.0

First of all we easily implemented integration with test automation framework that saved manual team work. Second thing is reports that our managers could use for proper decision making based on product quility understanding.

Pros

The best thing about TestRail is their REST API. Thanks to it we were able to easily implement its integration with our test automation framework. In particular we were able to map test exucution statuses to TestRail test case statuses and allow updating them easily for test reruns. Second good thing is reports they allow to generate. That's what our managers wanted.

Cons

Sometimes UI is not intuitive. For instance, it took a while to figure out how to change test cases status in bulk.

### "TestRail good for somethings, but not for others"

January 17, 2019

3.0

We believe that testrail is basic like any other test case management system, features are fairly generic, workflows are fairly dated. However UI is good, probably due to the app being basic. We use it because teams have already comfortable with it, but by no means is this a tool that can solve new development methodologies such as continuous integration test management. If you understand the tools limitations, then may work for you, but we find it to be lacking and at this stage have stopped integrating our CI test runs into the tool.

Pros

TestRail's simple UI and functionality is straight forward. Easy for people to jump in and use the tool, assuming that the tool fits Dev/QA's team workflow and method of usage. For the administrator, access is easily manageable, and provides multiple categories for restricting access and defining user roles within the organization.

Cons

TestRail is no different than other test management systems, beside the front end and UI benefits. TestRail is good for teams who initiate test planning, test case creation, and management specific to older QA management styles. When introducing continuous integration testing into a development/QA' teams methodology, this is where TestRail needs improvement . TestRail does not do a good job logging individual test runs for historic tracking, DB backend cannot handle the data that is pushed to the system, and we often have to delete DB records to help with performance and lookup. Usually without these backend hacks, the system performs very poorly and is slow. TestRail may be good for teams that have not adopted advanced development and QA practices, but if teams want to integrate CI testing with test cases and suites within TestRail this is where we find it to fail.

Pros

### "Excellent Test Management Software"

October 12, 2017

5.0

Excellent manual test management with the ability to integrate with our automated test software. Overall, we have a feature-rich and fully functional tool for our test management needs.

Pros

The ease of use for this software has allowed our company to transfer from paper test sheets to logins for our end users. This test software had an answer and feature for every question we had.

Cons

There's very little to dislike about this software. The report extract is a bit clunky. When a report is emailed to an email address, it's sent as a zip file with an html file. The extra steps required to view a report eliminate the usefulness of this feature.

### "Easy to use"

We liked the product but had a hard time integrating it with other software (Jira cloud version and TestRail cloud). But that was mostly our IT department not wanting us to connect that way. We moved to DevOps with it's Test Plan feature so had no need for TestRail anymore

Pros

This was very easy software to use. We used the cloud version. We were able to quickly setup Test Plans and cases with reports to watch how we were doing quality wise. The printed versions and online print versions of test cases were very useful.

Cons

The export wasn't as good as I hoped. It lost all the images we had stored in each of the test cases.

Pros

It's easy to use and you can get moving on your test library pretty much right after sign up. There's not much of a learning curve.
