### "Perfect Platform for Small Batch Mailing"

May 26, 2021

5.0

This is a core part of my communication toolkit. While I still use other mailing list platforms for specific purposes, this solves very specific bulk mailing needs.

Pros

I use this program for lists which have small and specifically targeted audiences. This mainly includes press lists for producing events, and for teaching large classes or workshops. It allows me to create simple mailings where I do not want a lot of noise or fuss, more like direct mail as opposed to broadcasting a message. It's the perfect scale and I love the ease of understanding the reporting, which becomes of direct benefit for following up and moving between lists. It functions for me like the perfect basic database for supporting the ways I need to communicate.

Cons

At this point I don't have a lot of complaints, as I've been using it for probably a decade. The cloud synchronization has been greatly improved more recently. I often send things which are just this side of plain text for ease of reading and sharing the content with the audiences I send to, and I do find that it's best to bring in any text unformatted and do the formatting within Direct Mail as the styles can get funky when one copies and pastes.

There were too many things to consider with Mail-chimp for the types of mailing I do with Direct Mail. I actually don't us Direct Mail for traditional internet marketing and newsletters, and so all of those extended features that get a lot of focus are less cluttered and easier to see past.

### "Easy, Professional, Reliable Email Marketing System"

September 10, 2025

5.0

I've just gotten started with email marketing in general and with Direct Mail, specifically. I'm blown away. I've been able to create drip email campaigns and a monthly email newsletter with no problem. And it's great being able to see who's opening and clicking links. If you're starting out with a small mailing list, like me, there's a free plan and a 'pay-per-email' plan, which can save money over paying monthly to some web-based systems, regardless of how large your list is. And it's nice having a native Mac app that's intuitive and I can use anywhere, even without an internet connection. Overall, just a great app.

Pros

\- Easy to use - Clean, intuitive interface - Detailed reporting with nice features like heatmaps to show where subscribers clicked - Easy contact management - Syncs with things like Google Sheets and my built in Mac Contacts - Good help documents - Native Mac app

Cons

\- A bit of a learning curve if you're new to email marketing, like me. But that seems to be the case with any email marketing system. - Limited templates, though nearly unlimited customization.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Direct Mail

I chose Direct Mail because of the native app, lower pricing and intuitive interface.

### "Customer Service Just Stopped Communicating with Me 2 1/2 Months Ago! "

January 23, 2021

3.0

It worked fine until there was an issue. They made an initial response and never followed up to my subsequent questions or requests. I have been sending them the same request for 2 1/2 months and zero response by email or the online chat.

Pros

My predecessor used it and it was easy to continue to use.

Cons

Customer Service when you have a problem.

### "Secure email campaigns with real time analytics"

April 7, 2026

5.0

"Direct Mail is the 'Final Cut Pro' of email marketing." It feels like a tool for pros who value their time and want a clean, Apple-centric workflow. If you are tired of paying $50/month for a web service you only use twice a month, the Pay Per Message plan alone makes this a must-download.

Pros

Blisteringly Fast Interface: Unlike browser-based tools that lag when you have 10,000+ subscribers, Direct Mail stays fluid because it’s using your Mac’s local hardware.

Cons

While basic "drip" campaigns are easy, complex multi-step branching logic takes a bit more time to master than on some high-end web platforms.

### "Semi-experienced user writes..."

July 3, 2025

Comfortable, but tough on our budget (see above). Its very straightforward to use once you get the hang of it

Pros

Comprehensive coverage of all our needs, with easy layout. Excellent customer services, on the few occasions I've needed them.

Cons

It's a bit pricey. Tricky for smaller operators like ourselves, so do look out for better offers elsewhere. Would appreciate more lower-end pricing options which don't disadvantage smaller businesses.

### "Excellent and quick tool for managing email communication to groups"

January 13, 2024

5.0

Pros

Direct Mail's native application interface is so much smoother to use and quicker than online systems. I regularly use MailChimp and HubSpot for outbound email as well, but for certain purposes Direct Mail is a real winner. It's really a good tool for designing nice looking email newsletters. The reporting is pretty good as well. There's a really elegant mixture of cloud-based services (the email sending and report viewing) and native application.

Cons

I do wish it was a little easier to share control of campaigns and lists with another Mac users.

### "Direct Mail because it's easy to use"

May 27, 2021

5.0

I use Direct Mail heavily with DM campaigns for services and products, weekly and monthly newsletters both for my business, my local Rotary Club, and for my Rotary District.

Pros

What I like most with Direct Mail is how easy it is to use - especially for newsletters. Easy to design own templates and administer the address databases and opt-in functionality. It is also a good thing that you only pay for what you use by "digital stamps".

Cons

I would probably want a more visual way to make "workflows" and the possibility to make more tailor-made opt-in and landing pages for campaigns.

### "Direct Mail - The Best App For Writing Weekly Newsletters! "

August 9, 2021

5.0

My overall experience in using Direct Mail has been very pleasant. It's efficient, easy to use, and makes writing a weekly newsletter fun.

Pros

There is much to love about Direct Mail. I love the mail-merge features. A personalized newsletter is much more powerful and attention getting. I enjoy the ease of use and the powerful preview features. I truly appreciate how easy it is to layout the newsletter and fine tune the design. The user interface is very intuitive.

Cons

I would be nice to have a word-art type of feature.

### "Longtime Love Interest"

October 24, 2019

5.0

My overall experience has been wonderful. This is a pro-level tool that every small, indie, business should make great use of. It is light on the wallet and there every time you need it.

Pros

What I like most about this software is that it is there just when I want it. There is no needling "missing you" emails, no fees for when I have a busy time and just can't get to it and no fuss on telling me how to make my emails better. It is an all around pleasure.

Cons

What I like least about this software is that it has such a tight complaint algorithm. I, totally, understand why and the reasoning for this. I am aware the industry is traditionally squirley about spam reporting. Not saying any company has handled it better than this software. However, as a business who tries hard to deliver information with lots of paths for people to opt-out, it always amazes me when people simply forget they opted-in ;)

Switched from

The Mailchimp monthly fees were far to expensive for a small business like mine. I have a large community, but we try not to ask a lot of money from them. So, the Mailchimo monthly requirement to pay for members just does not pencil out.

August 13, 2025

I don't use it as much as I should. However, that's going to be changing, I'll be sending Email 2x / month.

Pros

### "If you're on a Mac, Direct Mail is your best choice for email management!"

June 14, 2021

5.0

Very responsive customer service! They understand how critical it is to my business and go the extra mile to make sure everything works. The techs are US-based and I don't have to deal with heavy accents (I'm deaf and that is a big problem for me!)

Pros

I initially chose it because I could easily switch from desktop email on my Mac to their service. With DirectMail I could flow my existing addresses straight into the service. The other mail services required converting my records to a database. They all seem to cater to PC people and I was worried about customer service.

Cons

It was somewhat difficult to adjust the template to my needs, until I figured out the system.

### "Effective, low cost direct marketing"

August 10, 2021

5.0

What I like most about Direct Mail for the Mac is that, having used it for several years, it is just there and reliable. I know that if I go a couple of months without using it that it will still meet my requirements. Sometimes, it can take a while to get back up to speed but the effort is always worth it.

Pros

This is a straightforward and easy to learn piece of software that is packed full of functionality. It has certainly made our marketing more focused and effective over a number of years, first with our management consulting business and latterly with our bed and breakfast business.

Cons

Probably the most challenging aspect is getting to be familiar with the newsletter layout and making adjustments. Once you get to know this it seems you don't need to be a graphics designer or creative to produce a passable newsletter that looks good.

Reason for choosing Direct Mail

There were a lot of options and it was a long time ago. All I can remember is that this offered a wide range of functionality that Mac users would appreciate most. We have operated a Mac network since 1993, so we know what good Mac software is all about.

Pros

### "Tracking Readership for a small business"

August 21, 2019

4.0

As I learn all its features I like it more and more

Pros

Once I had figured it out, with some help from helpful 'Help' people at Directmail, it has been extremely useful to me in doing was email broadcasts to my client and subscriber base, something I could to do with my usual email software, \[Mac\]Mail. Works very well on my Mac. I sue the subscriber option which allowed me to install the software on my isp's server. cost effective and looks to my readers as coming directly form me.

Cons

The reporting could be improved(?) if we could be sure the receiver has actually 'opened' the email, or merely saw the summary on their device, especially the case for people who receive the email on there mobile device. I haven't figured out how file management works on the system yet.

### "Used this product for several years, and it's well worth the money"

May 29, 2021

5.0

Pros

Direct Mail is very easy to use, and fairly reliable. We send several newsletters a week. Each project has the option to use on the local desktop and/or sync with the cloud. Integrates nicely with most of our business apps. I can't say enough about their Tech Support team--\[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\] in particular is amazing.

Cons

Future scheduling could contain a few more prompts. And any previously-set "future schedule" should be removed from the next blast (for some reason, it retains the last-set "Schedule" setting rather than returning to the default setting of Send Now).

Reason for choosing Direct Mail

I prefer using DirectMail because their tech support is on my timezone and is VERY responsive. I know they've got my back if I ever need custom coding help or the like.

### "Great E-Blast Program"

July 16, 2022

5.0

It's absolutely helped us to expand our reach. Recipients often comment on how beautiful our emails are. Very satisfying to use and to receive such feedback.

Pros

We've found Direct Mail extremely versatile, enabling us to send clear, elegant, eye-catching e-blasts to our main list (2000+ addresses) and numerous sub-lists organized by interests and geography. Also LOVE the reporting feature.

Cons

Still find it cumbersome to add smaller lists to our main one (for example list of 2022 program alumni) while keeping the original small list. I often have to do this several times or else the original (smaller) list winds up empty. Also, some issues with formatting paragraphs within sections of text and closings (ex, my name, with title underneath, comes out double-spaced no matter how much I've tried to make it single-spaced...)
