Pros: Ease of use - Most teachers, students, and parents learn to navigate the LMS pretty easily.

Many levels of use - Teachers can begin using the LMS at a simple, basic level with great success, and then progress to use more advanced features that enrich the educational experience of their students. I love incorporating online discussions and media albums in my classes.

Anywhere, anytime - Teachers can set up their daily classes in Schoology, embedding images, media, discussions, quizzes, and more. This lends itself to all types of teaching experiences from whole class to small group to individual assignments. Assignments can actually be assigned to small groups or individual students, and these will not populate the Schoology feeds of other students. The Schoology course can be used to facilitate the classroom experience, but also allows student access to classroom content 24/7.

Great integration with G Suite - Schoology plays very well with all things Google. I love the Google Drive Assignments app, which organizes my students' assignments so beautifully.

Cons: Cannot create recurring calendar events.

Badges are only visible on Profile Page. I wish they were more visible on all pages, like they are in Khan Academy. Badges are also not visible on the iOS platform.

I wish assignments had both "assigned on" dates, as well as "due dates."

Overall: I have used Schoology as a teacher with students and as a professional development platform with other teachers. I love all the options I have for sharing content of all types and engaging students in many ways. I constantly find new features to try out with my students.

In addition, I am one of the system admins for our school district. I have used both the Basic (free) version and the Enterprise version. Schoology Support is always helpful, and while they cannot always meet my needs right away, they are always working on site improvements and new features.

Great LMS option for K-12 schools and post secondary as well. I flip my classes and it works great.

Pros: +Google Assignment App - this is a game changer for schools using Google and Chromebooks.

+Most open LMS - it integrates with more outside apps and programs.

+New interfaces on the way - a cleaner look for all and an elementary version of the interface.

+More question types coming for assessments including labeling.

+Options are available for assessment monitoring for schools and districts.

Cons: -I wish I could move and resize pop up editing boxes. I create complex and visual landing pages with hyperlinks for my students. I wish that box were able to be made bigger and many pop up boxes cover information on the page that would be helpful when working in the box.

-Settings and due dates for assessments are in two completely different places when creating them. One is in a tab in the content area, the other is in the creation "gear" menu. If both are not set correctly, your assessment will not work.

Overall: I use Schoology for almost all of my course work. I teach using the flipped classroom model and Schoology's platform allows me to share my lecture videos, conduct assessments of student knowledge and understanding, to give assignments, and to provide communication with students and parents. All of my content is available to my students through Schoology 24/7, I can make it available in a variety of ways, and I can make updates in real time. Recently, Schoology's introduction of the Google Assignment App has me excited about our switch to Chromebooks. This app allows you to attach a Google Doc (say a study guide) as part of an assignment. When students open the assignment the document is copied, renamed, and added to their Google Drive. No more students opening or copying a new version of the document each time they go back to the assignment instead of to the copy they made but didn't actually rename like the directions stated. The document is 'tied' to the assignment and updates no matter where they work on it from (inside the assignment or through their Google Drive.)

Still to come, a cleaner looking interface with differentiation for elementary students!

Pros: -Ease of use

-Groups provide online PLNs

-Supportive client services

-Excellent BlendEd Platform

-Can align with CC or state standards

-Allows for competency-based grading (Mastery via Enterprise)

-Parent log in options (one log in for all of their kids)

-App works well on Mac and Android devices

Cons: -Can't create reoccurring events or assignments (yet)

-PowerSchool Pro and Schoology integration in beta only (Enterprise)

Overall: Moodle. Blackboard. Edmodo. Google Classroom. Each year of teaching seemed to bring with it another piecemeal LMS until we found Schoology! Schoology allows our teachers, students, admin and community to stay informed and connected. As a teacher, Schoology was easy to figure out due to its intuitive platform. I love the various features and app integrations that allow students to do much of their online learning within the platform avoiding third party site visits and lots of extra clicking. As an Enterprise user, I also appreciate the SIS integration with PowerSchool that automatically transfers student grades from Schoology. The group feature allows me to easily send updates about One-Act and Speech practice schedules or leave time reminders that can be routed to students' phones, and the groups also provide excellent PLNs for various topics. Admins have begun harnessing the power of online professional development modules via Schoology as well. Students enjoy the calendar view, which we have taught them to use like a planner and appreciate the quick feedback from assessments. Parents enjoy more transparency about what is going on at school and the media albums work great for capturing all of the awesome learning that needs to be recognized and celebrated. As a BlendEd Learning leader, Schoology is integral to day to day planning and organization.

I also appreciate that Schoology is very responsive to user issues and requests. Their Client Success team is there to answer questions and trouble shoot when you need them, and the product developers are always taking suggestions and creating new features to make the platform more user friendly for teachers and students.

Unlike previous platforms, Schoology is my one-stop shop that is here to stay! After four years of use, I couldn't imagine teaching without it!

Recommendations to other buyers: -Enterprise version is worth the cost for integration with SIS but free version works great too! -Pairs well with Notability app for paperless users

Pros: There is an instant comfort to using Schoology for students and teachers. Most things are very easy to find and within a couple uses, teachers begin to develop confidence with the program. As a teacher, I was easily able to teach myself (with some online guidance) how to accomplish what I needed. The range of options available for free is outstanding and the paid version just adds the icing to the cake!

Cons: There are times where it seems like I have to click a lot of buttons to execute something. There are some quirks (as there are with many programs) that don't seem 100% logical to me. With that said, Schoology is always willing to listen, things may not be fixed immediately but it is nice to know they are aware.

Overall: In my 7 years as a teacher, I was always looking for the latest and greatest tools. The one thing that never changed, was Schoology. They are constantly improving their product and updating to make it better. I used all the free features of Schoology with my students. We took all of our assessments via their platform. They submitted assignments, essays, and projects via the other software. I was able to easily attach rubrics to the work that students were creating. My favorite piece was the discussions. It allowed me to elicit responses from all students, not just the ones who were willing to raise their hands. I would often use the online discussions to facilitate a face to face discussion in class the next day. I was able to use the responses from the online portion to direct and call out specific responses that could further our in class discussion. Schoology is an all around great tool, if you are looking for an LMS, it would be a mistake not to consider Schoology.

In my current role, I provide more professional development support. I am working with teachers on their implementation of Schoology and other tools. Schoology allows me a way to deliver online courses to teachers and support them in their growth. It is a great experience for our teachers to use Schoology as a student, this gives them the perspective they need when it is time to work with their students. It also affords us the opportunity to show them some best practices of using an LMS. Schoology is a winner in every way, I wouldn't be where I am today without Schoology, and our teachers wouldn't be making the gains they are without the support of Schoology.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you are looking for an LMS you really need to consider Schoology. Take the time to really dive into it and you will be rewarded.

Pros: As a vendor, Schoology is top notch. I feel like the crew there is an extension of my immediate work group. Everyone at Support, our Account Manager, and especially their PD team are friendly and professional. I follow many of them on Twitter and we share ideas and thoughts on the product. I'm thankful for their responsiveness and their authenticity about not being able to do everything at all times, but to hear all concerns and appropriately triage them for the product's future. The product is very clean and straightforward. I am a system administrator for our institution, so I am always poking around in the nitty gritty. I may be the sole user at our institution that uses as many aspects of Schoology as I do. From course level settings, to groups, to system wide, I am all over the product and I heartily give my approval. I can navigate through the product with ease and can easily lead others in doing the same. I support our faculty and students on using the product, so it's great to know when I point them to a feature that it will always look and operate the same. I might say that is the BEST part of the product: the uniformity. We previously used Moodle, and our setup was not uniform. Thankfully, Schoology is.

Cons: The product is young and still catered towards the K12 environment. The language, the features, and the community of users are primarily K12. While that's not a big deal, it can often make community events or new features irrelevant to the higher ed environment. The only other downside is that there are not many settings for students with special needs. It is often clunky to create workarounds to accommodate students who need more time in quizzes or struggle to access media content.

Recommendations to other buyers: Communicate, question, appreciate. I overcommunicate and it's well received. Schoology values email correspondence and timeliness, so I know that if I have a need or situation that I can email and expect a response. I've even, in a crisis, had the privilege of exchanging personal numbers with my previous Account Manager so that I could connect with him throughout the situation and get real time updates. As a result of that, our emergency was handled in less than 24 hours. As I communicate, I ask a lot of questions. About the future of the product, about how things work internally, about how to use Schoology to its greatest potential. All of my questions are graciously answered and respected. I am never turned away and get results. Lastly, I make sure to always tell them how much I appreciate the work they are doing! We are using their product for our institution. I know what it means to have my work appreciated, so I try to treat the vendor according to the Golden Rule. Following these three steps has made our relationship with Schoology really healthy and provided us a consistently professional and excellent experience.

Pros: Schoology is intuitive for both teachers and students. I love that Schoology is specifically designed for K-12 and has a simple interface for primary students. Schoology provides students one place to access curriculum content, collaborate with peers, and receive immediate feedback from assessments. Our teachers leverage several features in Schoology including grading groups and completion rules. Teachers can privately differentiate curriculum materials to individual students or groups with just a click using grading groups. Teachers can also design lessons that utilize completion rules which forces students to complete on activity with a certain degree of accuracy before moving on to the next activity. Teachers can also provide students feedback in a variety of formats which can include audio, video, drawings or written. The feedback is available to students as soon as it is graded. In addition to courses, Schoology also has a group feature which is one place for teachers to share curriculum materials with one another. The content in the group is shared with just a click to any course. This makes it very easy to move materials from teachers to students without the need to download or upload files, creating a smooth digital workflow.

Cons: None. The Schoology team is responsive to feedback and the team is constantly striving to make improvements.

Overall: The software is central to our curriculum delivery in our 1:1 blended learning classrooms. It is a core app that we use daily and streamlines communication, assessment, and assignments.

Pros: I love that I can use Schoology as a vehicle to personalization--personalization for student learning and personalization for my instruction. I am able to add/delete assignments for students. I can create assignments for specific groups of students. It is easier to use the same rubric for similar assignments because the rubric is already built and saved. I can deliver lessons in various methods. My instruction and assessment have become more transparent (and more fair!) for students due to these features.

Cons: The features that I most dislike about Schoology revolve around the integrations with Google Drive and TurnItIn. While I have long applauded the Google integration, I detest that the Google assignments (when submitted through this integration) are not time stamped. Also, my colleagues and I have found TurnItIn to be a bit more complicated than necessary to use. It is not intuitive, and rather difficult to explain to students. I often end up not using it.

Overall: Schoology has enabled me to create a digital platform for my students to access whenever and however they need. Being a traveling teacher has its own unique set of obstacles, but Schoology has empowered me to bring my in-person style and flare to the digital space. I no longer feel as I am scatted around multiple classrooms. Each of my digital classrooms are organized in the same manner so there is a sense of structure to my instruction, just like a physical space would allow.

Pros: I haven't collected a piece of paper in 3 years. It grades many things for me and I can get feedback on how my students are doing. I continue to have access to everything in a course even after it has ended. Schoology is incredibly helpful in fixing problems, and asking for feedback. It merges seamlessly with my school's grade book program. It has allowed me to turn my traditional classroom into a flipped-mastery classroom that use standards based grading. Differentiating instruction and assignments is easy with this program.

Cons: There are still things I wish it could do that it can't... yet. They are still working on those things.

Overall: It has streamlined my classroom:

Assignments are in schoology, collected in schoology, graded in schoology, I used it to flip my classroom and organize what students do and when.

It has streamlined the work that I do to get ready for class:

I can easily collaborate with the teachers I work with, I can set up one class and copy to others, It helps me keep track of where my students are and what they are achieving.

I teach my students how to use the program to get more out of their own learning:

They can check on their level of mastery, rework old assignments and quizzes (when I let them), they can check their progress, see what is coming, and know what is expected of them just by opening the course.

3 years after beginning to use it, I don't know how I ever lived without it.

Pros: Schoology is an easy to use LMS initially as a teacher and student. The best part is that there are so many added features and an amazing supportive community to help you customize and develop your courses even further. The customer service for Schoology is fantastic and the professional learning community in Schoology Educators is active and very helpful to anyone from a beginner to an advanced user. We did a side by side comparison between Schoology - Edmodo - Canvas and Google Classroom and our teachers and students completely supported our adoption of Schoology!

Cons: Some missing features include the ability to lock an entire folder and the ability to navigate quiz/tests more easily.

Overall: Schoology has transformed my teaching! I have been teaching for almost 18 years and I knew that I was basically teaching to the middle group of my students. I was not differentiating for the various learners in my class. The tools available in Schoology helped me to move my teaching from lecture based to a blended classroom approach. I now train teachers on a daily basis to transform their teaching using Schoology. The Schoology community is one of the most active, supportive groups I have ever encountered.

Pros: I enjoy the ease that students have when they are using Schoology. It allows students to instantly access everything for my classroom in one central location. At an elementary school, time is very important. My favorite aspect of Schoology is that I can have a list of websites, assignments, and tests all in one unit that students can access in one location. Students know as soon as they get to my class, they will be getting on Schoology.

Cons: I wish they had an automatic badge dispersal system when a student scores at least XX on an exam. As of now, if a student scores a high enough score, you have to go to the badges category to award them that badge.

Overall: Schoology has helped tremendously in our district where we have a technology rollout of one computer for every student. As a grade 3-5 computer teacher, it is an amazing tool that I can use where students can submit their work to me effortlessly. When they submit a word document, I can see a preview on my computer or use their mobile application. Schoology enables my 400 students to work at their own pace. If a student finishes an assignment early, they can easily move on to the next assignment.

With the ages that I have in class, students love receiving badges for completing missions in Schoology. In addition to the benefits for students, I am able to set up groups with colleagues so that we can communicate and share resources.

Comments: Schoology has transformed my own teaching and assessment strategies, and I have seen it greatly impact the classrooms of my colleagues. It remains one of my top recommendations for any educators across the educational technology spectrum.

Pros: Schoology's greatest asset is its ease of use. When my institution adopted Schoology as the LMS (to replace a previous, more complicated LMS), we saw a 2/3 increase in active users, effectively transforming our classrooms. Schoology excels at communication (to your entire course, co-workers, or individual students) compared to other learning management systems. Additionally, schoology is an LMS visibly built around a learning centered classroom, unlike the obvious content-centered approach favored by prominent, older learning management systems.

Cons: Schoology's ease of use does mean some loss of complicated features. At first glance, schoology has a smaller feature set than some LMS's. However, if you are willing to be creative, the platform engages very cleanly with third party tools to accomplish any functionality that may have been lost.

Comments: Schoology is an all encompassing learning management system (LMS) that allows teachers to expand the walls of the classroom beyond the school day. Students can easily log into their Schoology account and access class materials, watch embedded videos, practice skills, or respond to class discussions. Teachers can organize and create folders and build an entire course throughout the year. The interface has a social media look that can be appealing for students. However, students treat Schoology as a course and not Facebook. Restrictions can easily be enabled to ensure that student's post before they see other responses. The Schoology App works extremely well in a 1:1 iPad classroom. Students can easily add their Google Drive App and submit assignments from Google Drive directly to Schoology. Teachers have an easy toggle feature that allows them to score student work efficiently without opening new tabs for every student assignment. Rubrics can be easily created and directly attached to the assignment. Schoology does platform with Pearson, Powerschool, and many other online sources. Those services provided do cost money. Schoology is COPPA compliant and has signed the Student Privacy Pledge. Videos and tutorials are easily accessible, and the company is very responsive to questions and suggestions.

I was using another popular LMS but found that my students treated it like Facebook. When I switched to Schoology I found that the interface and the assignment feed are easier to manage and sort through. Students treat Schoology as a course and not another form of social media. They respond appropriately and use it as a resource for their learning. Building on-line quizzes take time, but students respond well to receiving the instant feedback. Aa a teacher, I find the assignment feature and uploading from Google Drive seamless. I've been able to leave feedback and not feel overwhelmed reading 100 essays submitted in Schoology. The hardest feature of Schoology is learning and discovering all of the bells and whistles it offers. I would recommend using Schoology with a team of teachers or a colleague. It's much easier to bounce ideas off of each other as you tinker with its features. Once you maneuver through the first weeks of Schoology you won't turn back. I left everything I created on my old LMS and have had no regrets. Schoology is ideal if your looking to go paperless as well.

Pros: Ease in posting resources to keep students in Schoology for research projects and assignments. The ability to assess student learning in multiple formats. Being able to use the Google Drive link to create collaborative assignments across class periods for students to participate in allows all students to participate in one big project.

Cons: Schoology needs to solve the problem of students being able to copy and paste into Schoology. It's too easy for students to plagiarize when they can go outside of Schoology and copy and paste information to answer questions. I can tell students not to do that and remove grade points when they do, but if Schoology could find a way to not allow student accounts to copy and paste, there would be more original work done by students in the platform.

Overall: Being able to collaborate and communicate with teachers in my department is fast and easy. Collaborative projects with students across all class periods has been very productive in my classes. Being able to sync to the gradebook is fast and efficient.

Pros: I like to support my students and evaluate their training no matter where I am in the room or outside. Schoology has allowed me to create educational playlists and sequential learning modules that regularly support and challenge my students. This is with me the students better control the way, pace, time and place of training. This helps create a framework for self-study that benefits the learner across the range of abilities. This allows students to continue working even if one or two students are destructive, since they do not need to wait for direct instructions. It also helps students who are not involved in the work. I would advise you to talk with other teachers to get innovative ideas on how to introduce Schoology into your own class. Other teachers gave me some unique ideas that I would not have thought of myself.

Cons: Schoology opportunities are not always enough for the organization of corporate training. For example, there are not many elements of gamification for learning process. I also want to point out that tech support rarely answers on my requests.

Pros: Schoology is a great organization tool for students as it displays all their classes and has each classes' contents inside the group. This allows for teachers to easily make assignments and information available to students digitally. Schoology also has a built-in calendar and notification system to make sure students turn in assignments on time. It has a very intuitive interface and it is easy to access for both administration, teachers, and students from both the mobile app and the web.

Cons: Schoology can sometimes have bugs which makes it frustrating in a classroom setting. Bugs can take time to fix and can delay important teaching material. The settings can be confusing at times and the mobile app can crash at times. Schoology support also takes some time to implement essential features which can be quite annoying at times.

Comments: Schoology is an excellent platform for blended learning or situations where online learning is supplemental to face-to-face learning. For higher education, or fully online learning, it has a long way to go to catch up with the industry leaders.

Pros: Schoology is easy to use, provides an intuitive interface, and leverages the benefits of social media. As an Enterprise user, I have access to the full suite of analytics and universal settings, which are powerful. The mobile apps are feature-rich as well.

Cons: Schoology is not the ideal platform for higher education. The interface, while easy to navigate, is juvenile in its icons and profile images. And while it features a social media "wall" of recent activity across one's courses, the interface looks like an old Facebook. Also, Schoology's font, which cannot be altered, even by Enterprise users, is too small. This raises ADA compatibility concerns.

When we used it I was very happy with the product.

Pros: I love the addition of the discussion board feature. Requiring students to post prior to seeing other students' post makes it easier to ensure they are not summarizing/rewording someone else's post. This was something that several teachers at my school requested and Schoology was very quick to implement it.

Cons: I really have nothing negative to say about the software. Many teachers at our school had a real problem with handing over a copy of our drivers licenses to a company when we already had a full background check with our school during the hiring process. It felt like a violation of privacy.

Overall: As a former English teacher, it was so nice to have students be able to speak their voice in a setting they may not have been comfortable with prior to using Schoology. We were able to do many of the same discussions with our Bible students as well. It really helped in studying scripture passages.

Flexible, fully-featured and fun!

Comments: Schoology works best for a whole school setting where different ability levels of instructors and learners will be accessing the platform. Especially suited to an establishment which intends to develop a blended learning and learning self-paced learning approach outside of the classroom. A school which confidently uses mobile apps and digital technologies will find Schoology a healthy addition to their collection of digital tools.

Pros: +A huge community of teachers and learners looking to sharing their experience and support one another in the usage of the platform. +A recognisable user interface which makes the learning curve for new users simple and intuitive. +Superb flexibility to create bespoke learning environments for teachers and learners.

Cons: - Some limitation of iframe embed due to the HTTPS protocol requirement. Use of HTML code editor often strips the inclusion of more advanced features such as Java functions. - Limitation toe badge and gamification of learning. - LTI integration not fully functional, relying on apps developers to plug the gaps.

Pros: Schoology truly focuses their attention on personalized student learning. The features to set completion settings and afford students the opportunity to complete units/lessons/folders at their own pace is truly a game-changer. With that, it works perfectly when trying to gamify your classroom with the added benefit of included badges.

Cons: Navigation and ease of use require a little bit of time to play around and get comfortable with the program. So many added benefits and features are within other options. But once you figure them out (like embedding other apps into Schoology) they become the norm.

Overall: I love having used Schoology in the past when teaching HS English an gamifying my classroom. I now utilize Schoology for professional development purposes. This allows me to create and offer my teachers anytime, anywhere, self-paced learning modules.

Pros: The ability to connect assignments with State Standards to create Mastery Grading. Connecting parents with their own log in meant that there were no surprises when it came time for grade reports and when parents were surprised, I could easily see if they had created a parent account. The time/date stamp on assignments was very helpful when a student tried to pit me against their parents. I also appreciated the option to personalize classes with photos, color code folders, and set announcement banners. I can't imagine teaching in today's Ed Tech world without Schoology.

Cons: Some of the features (such as badges) do not show on the IOS app. This was frustrating for me when implementing "gamification". Students needed a laptop or PC to view badges earned.

Pros: This software is very easy to use in the classroom setting. I can easily message my students at any time as well as their parents when I need to reach them which is a nice option to have available. I also like the fact I can exchange classroom resources with other educators that may be using the software. I am also a huge fan of the fact that I can make quizzed, grade prior assignment, and keep in touch with my students with just one application.

Cons: I think that there are a few things that can be improved regarding this software such as the mobile application at times seems to be problems with it crashing which means I lose things that I have not been saved at that time. I also dislike the fact that when new features are introduced it seems to take a while for them to become fully functional.

Overall: I was able to effectively communicate with my students with the software and they enjoy it as it reminds them of social media.

Pros: - Customer Service is amazing and quick

- Easily integrates with our SIS

- Ability to share resources with other teachers

- easy interface for secondary students with multiple courses

Cons: - there were a few updates I did not love- the "top 12" for courses, opening links in the same window instead of a new window

Overall: I have been using Schoology as a classroom teacher and teacher trainer for over 3 years now. I am always amazed when I see other LMS and how it compares to Schoology. It is a such a great tool to personalize and enhance learning for both teachers and students. There are wide variety of features that make Schoology the top choice for all different learners- opportunities for enrichment, individually assigned tasks, language translation, and places for students to post and share their work.

Pros: Schoology offers both a free and enterprise (paid) version. Our school of 600 has been using the free version for 3 years and it is still working great! In talking with a Schoology rep, they mentioned that 80% of the functionality of Schoology is available for free. After going through the Schoology Enterprise demo, I would agree. The main things the free version lacks is in the area of custom branding, administrative permissions, high level analytics, video conferencing, various integrations, and open APIs. Each of our instructors sets up their own course and students can log in and take our courses from anywhere they have Internet. We have used Schoology in Spanish, Portuguese, and English. The free iPhone, iPad, and Android apps works great.

Cons: The site occasionally cuts out due to maintenance and does not automatically refresh.

Recommendations to other buyers: I recommend evaluating different LMS's on the basis of four things: 1) faculty ease of use, 2) student engagement and ease of use, and 3) administrative permissions and analytic data, and 4) IT integrations with a student information system (SIS).

Much better products out there.

Pros: Ability to turn in assignments online, ability to message students. Ability to upload files, but not display.

Cons: So many, can't list them all. No way to set defaults for some features, requiring extra steps for common activities like inputting assignments. Combining classes still requires you to switch between windows of the "combined" classes. Printed progress reports are hard to get to, and not layed out well. Drop down that appears during grading gets on the way of inputting grades. When grading an assignment, each student's assignment causes a new window to open, cluttering the desk top. The graphics are old fashioned looking.

Overall: Not much, Easy Grade Pro is better

Comments: I use Schoology in all aspects of my classroom. I create and share resources with other teachers in my district. I share resources with my students. I use Schoology as our online discussion forum. I create assignments/quizzes/tests in Schoology to help with paper clutter. I use the audio function in Schoology to help differentiate assessments. I also use Schoology to keep track of my Relay for Life group at my school where I can share event dates, updates, and important messages. I love that Schoology can be used for teacher-led instruction, but also for students to learn, create, and publish their own work. Schoology is a great tool to use for collaboration as well as differentiation. Super easy to use, and the best part is that there are so many different ways to use Schoology from a Resource Hub for teachers, to a full blown online classroom.

Comments: Very attractive initial user interface convinces beginning administrators and teachers and parents that Schoology looks great. Ecstatic user reviews are convincing as well...except those users all appear to be first-time users whose primary reference point is Facebook. Schoology is two years old, and is attempting to leapfrog older established systems; but it is quite immature yet, and struggling to keep up with the dramatic success of its marketing campaign. Like Facebook, Schoology seems to make it easy to send lots of e-mails to lots of people, though it is difficult to be very selective -- for example, it is fairly easy to send a message to all parents (who have signed up), but not to send the same message to both parents and students at the same time. Assignments allow audio and video input, but the marking engine is clumsy (such things are very difficult to program), and grade input is completely uncontrolled--I can enter 900 as a grade instead of 90, if my finger slips. The max grade value is not displayed while marking some assignments, so I need to remember...25? or 50? or 100? Quizzes offer random selection from question-banks, but do not display the source, so it is difficult to tell what questions have already been assigned, and questions are inflexible, once selected. Parents complain that navigation is confusing, as there is no location set for course assignments (this could be rectified by faculty procedures, but the system provides no set location). There are very few reports for administrators, and sysadmins claim to have little ability to change things. But it does look good, and response-time and uptime have been good (not perfect). The system appears to operate according to the new web-development method--keep developing, keep changing, and follow Facebook's lead. However, it is not...repeat not.. a mature LMS, though it is certainly prettier than moodle or canvas.

Pros: I used schoology for about 8-9 years as a homeschooling mom. It allowed me to manage my kids assignments and share their progress and status with their dad or even the kids grandparents. It was like a parent-teacher conference room online. As my kids got older and transferred to a charter school for high school, I shared the resource with the school principal and now the entire school uses it for all their instructors and courses.

Cons: There are no Cons. It is perfect! It is great for parents. It is great for Instructors and it is also a great tool and resource for students.

Pros: Schoology is still the best online learning system I can find. It's prettier than blackboard, more functional, and offers a good UI experience and delivery of content. I've been using it for several years now, and rarely do I run into problems. When I do, they're quick to solve them and quick to update the functionality as a whole. It makes fora great experience for both teachers and students alike.

Cons: It'd be nice to have a little more option for graphics experience and even perhaps for live student interaction. As it is, we still wind up on skype for live learning experiences.

Pros: Schoology has a plethora of features for organizing and distributing materials, tracking grades and attendance, and assessment.

Cons: Some great features / functionality is blocked behind their Enterprise (paid) edition.

Overall: I have been using Schoology in my classroom for 4 years in a vocational career and technical education for high school juniors and seniors. By using the free edition of Schoology, our classroom has become more efficient by going mostly all digital through a combination of this platform and Google Drive. Students can access and turn in materials (and I can grade) from anywhere there is internet. It has allowed us to spend more time working with students in the classroom.

Comments: Students and teachers love Schoology. It is a one stop shop for teaching and sharing resources among teachers. In addition, teachers can save their courses and set up templates for the next year.

Pros: Schoology is a great one stop shop for the facilitation of the digital classroom. A great part is that teachers can also share resources and reach out to Schoology through social media for quick support. The Schoology community is very strong in the public groups for additional help when needed.

Cons: I wish there was an automation of badge delivery based on assignment/test score to provide students with badges in an easier way.

Pros: We've used several vendors for our Learning Management System (LMS), and Schoology has the most user-friendly and intuitive interface. As a vendor, they are very responsive to the needs of their users, from teachers to students to parents. The parent communication portion is also much better than other LMS's we've used.

Cons: I think the calendar feature needs some updating. This is a relatively minor point and can be worked around, but I would like to see the ability to have a live ics feed imported into the existing calendars in Schoology as many districts or schools already have calendars in place that should be easier to integrate.

Recommendations to other buyers: I would recommend having users from varied experience levels and grade levels be included in the evaluation phase, if you are looking at a solution for multiple grade level bands that will be adopted readily by people with different levels of comfort using technology. In our case, we wanted a solution that could be readily adopted by all users and was flexible for different grade levels (K-12), so it was important to have those voices represented.

Students first needed 1 place to go to see homework. Now the whole school communicates in 1 place.

Pros: Ease of use, continual upgrades, available both in web and app version, LTI compliant, robust grading features such as rubrics and customizable grading scales, mastery grading features...The App, in particular, is very easy to grade on, as it allows for easy inking on student submissions. It has also been used that students can submit work on their phones if their regular laptops are not working.

Cons: The calendar feature is relatively weak. It would be great if that were better able to connect and sync with Google calendar and Outlook.

Pros: I love that it gives you your child's test grades as soon as the teacher uploads them.

Also you can view all of your children's progress if you have more than one attending that particular school. I like that if your child is having trouble in a subject you will know ahead of time by assessing their grades and averages through this app. Overall, I have had a great experience! Pros: Schoology allows all of our classes to operate on the same platform which is nice for the students. This product has very user-friendly for both teachers and students interface. The free iPhone, iPad, and Android apps work great. Our company has been using the free version for few years and it is still working great. Each of our instructors sets up their own course and students can log in and take our courses from anywhere they have Internet. Students find this program easy to use. It is also easy to make comments on students' papers, almost too easy. The learning curve to use this product is relatively quick.

Cons: It is hard to get stuff set up so that students cannot use the 'Find' function to locate information on their open note quizzes and tests. Also, I find uploading graphics/ videos aren't as simple as they could be.

Pros: I mean, it got the job done, I suppose.

Cons: It's confusing to use and teachers would just upload their documents randomly so it was often difficult to find things. Schoology has a lot of features that are never used that clog up the home screen. I also think it would be much nicer if you were sent to your list of classes as your home screen rather than the feed of comments. Students often just post annoying comments that then you have to look at every time you log in. It's slow, and seems outdated.

Overall: I spent six years using this program for school.

Pros: The flexibility and control you have within the LMS along with the ease of use. I like how you are able to determine if you want to use a course or group based on what you are trying to accomplish. Not only is this an LMS it can also be used for clubs or things of that nature.

Cons: The app and the web version do not always work the same. They do not sync with your Active Diretory in order to have it so when you add an account to AD it would then sync with Schoology instead of having to then also add an account to schooolgy.

Pros: Schoology looks alot like Facebook which is awesome because students don't even realize they are using it to do actual work. The discussion feature allows teachers to teach students how to professionally respond to others work. The work submission side is flawless, allowing students to submit multiple file types. Also, most of it can be utilized for free.

Cons: I would recommend this for students 13 or older. Some of the communication can be monitored but students can access certain things. You need to monitor them.

Pros: Files were easy to upload and submit. There was also space for chat forums that seemed to be useful with some classmates and participants. But overall, I did not think these qualities would have been unique to other similar platforms.

Cons: The whole format was just overly complicated. Perhaps it was the administrators, but I could click through a dozen folders before finding the things I was looking for. Sometimes important announcements were posted and I wouldn't even see them. I used it for a year and I don't think I ever came close to mastering it, and I used both the mobile app and the computer website. Schoology simply isn't your best option out there. There is the possibility that the administrators just didn't set it up wisely, but that could be reflective of the software as well.

Pros: *The LMS is appropriate to use for K-12 students. *It was easy for me to use Schoology to administer quizzes and tests to my fourth grade students. *I also used Schoology for my students to have online discussions, which they greatly enjoyed.

Cons: (Warning: The last time I used Schoology was in 2016. I have since switched careers. They may have upgraded features since then.) *The email functionality was terrible. Our school administrator told us we were supposed to use Schoology for all email communication, but none of the teachers did because it was a huge was of time and effort. We stuck with our Gmail account. *Using Schoology to store grades was also a nightmare as well. We had to use to other programs besides Schoology in order to administer our report cards.

Pros: Schoology, even in the "free" iteration, allows for a wide range of communication with students and parents that contributes to a learning environment that demands self-regulation and ownership of one's own learning. Think Facebook for school, but with WAY more ways to share documents, submit assignments, and get notifications in the hands of students. It has entirely replaced my personal classroom website, and I'll never go back!

Cons: Nothing! For what we use it for, Schoology is ideal. Our entire district has mandated it for all teachers, and it has revolutionized how we teach.

Recommendations to other buyers: Learning the best ways to use Schoology in your classroom may take time. For example, I do not do any native grading in this LMS, but use it much like a teacher website. It is incredibly customizable though, so keep at it and your workflow in curricular preparations can be totally changed!

Pros: As a parent I really like this program (there is also an app!) Schoology allows me to keep track of my child's grade by seeing almost daily what assignments have been completed, the grade, homework & test scores, etc. This program has helped me keep my child's grade up and keep him accountable for doing his homework.

Cons: I wish that there was more required teacher accountability (assign homework require 24 hours later to imput grade or something) . There are teachers that are religious about it. I can see my child's grade almost real time and other teachers who won't update for weeks which doesn't allow me to keep on top of my child & his grades. I also find the app could use a makeover, navigation is hard, as a parent there are 3 things I want to see: current grades, absences & lateness, and homework assignments. The rest of what the app offers isn't really applicable to me. In addition to the design on the app itself is not user friendly.

Pros: What I like best about this LMS is three-fold. First, it is super mobile-friendly, and has an excellent app for all OS's. Second is that Schoology is intuitive. Our students and faculty have no problem learning and navigating the software. And third, the LMS is built for design! Our instructional designers can focus on working the the SMEs to design extraordinary courses and not ahve to work about being HTML experts. What I like best about the vendor is their high level of personalized service.

Cons: Its not really a "least," but Schoology was born in the K-12 world and functionality for higher ed is not as strong as it could be. But we have been thrilled with their responsiveness in incorporating our design suggestions.

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure you know what you want in an LMS. While Schoology is extremely flexible and intuitive, it is not a "one size fits all answer." Make sure you know what you are looking for. Fortunately they have a free version for teachers to create courses at no cost or obligation, so you can experiment and explore most of the functionality that is available to the enterprise version. They also have a great deal of support material on their website, so learning how to create courses is a snap!

Comments: In my 4th year of teaching, my school district made staff aware of Schoology. As someone who taught in a computer lab, the LMS was fairly easy to incorporate. I shared content with my neighbor and together we began building our course splitting the workload. The use of groups and groups resources was probably the best part of teaching that year. We easily shared assignments, quizzes, vocabulary etc...By the time we started the next school year, our course was completely built, with a few tweaks, given feedback we had literally planned the entire 1st semester in the first 2 days of in-service.

In addition with the integration of the content's vocabulary right into schoology (quizlet) we were able to manage our "bell ringers" which were study opportunities for students. Students quiz grades began to rise , and I observed positive study habits occurring. The instant feedback also helped with students. In addition my time spent grading was greatly reduced. I introduced rubrics which were very easy to use and share with my colleague.

Overall I believe Schoology to be a great resource for educators. Some things that set it apart from other LMSs:

PLC groups

Post questions or concerns and quickly hear from educators around the world.

Immediate Feedback for students

Save Collaborative ways for students to learn and engage

Built in App intergration

Shared resources & Public Resources

Some items that still need work:

Discussions between all courses instead of just sections

Portfolios/Media Albums : needs to be more interactive, more robust

More intuitive Grade book

Free Lockdown Browser

Integrated Schoology into my high school courses years ago. Can't imagine teaching without it.

Pros: Robust assessment creation feature allows random selection of questions from question banks, resulting in a unique assessment for every student. Layout looks familiar to students, so its use is intuitive to them. Scoring with a rubric is amazingly simple.

Cons: Sometimes drop-down menus overlap windows, making it difficult to complete tasks that require the use of both.

Pros: Easy to use; teachers can pre-load and keep courses, make shells that they carry over; this has great integration with Quizlet and navigation is user-friendly. Also, access to the other courses and ebooks/articles was great to further my own learning. Teachers can share courses...it is awesome.

Cons: Honestly, the only con I have is that my district stopped using it. It was a great resource that I truly miss.

Overall: This made my planning and instruction so easy and FUN! Furthermore, I was able to roll content forward year to year.

Pros: I like this program in that I can enter grades, and students can see what their grades are and what tasks they do not have. I like being able to contact the parents of my students to show them what we are doing and how they can do it at home. This platform is quality, good and simple. If teachers know that they will adhere, they will invest in learning how to use it and introduce it into their classes. I can quickly and easily get information about people's teams and interact with them, even when we can not find the time to meet face to face. The exchange of resources became much easier when our school invested in this platform. With this platform, you can easily find out all the important information about your audience. You can create simple steps of information about what you should do next. Powerful tools to ensure the right audience.

Cons: I'm having problems getting old documents, actions and ratings, which I sometimes archived. But all other features works well.

Comments: I use this system every day. My students are required to log in on a daily basis M-F. They have the option to work during the weekends, but are not required. There are so many options for teachers and students: assignments, tests/quizzes, discussions, videos, comments, likes, media albums, calendar, resources, question banks, student completion options, pictures, integration with Google Drive...and I use all of them. Last year, my students worked with me in a blended classroom environment and they enjoyed how easily it was on Schoology. This year, we are working on asynchronous units, and my students are loving it. They can work at their own pace and still get more individualized attention than they would without Schoology. I highly recommend it for any teacher who wants to take their classroom to the next level. Also, you get to go paperless!

Overall, I will say that this product, though not perfect, has made my work as a teacher much easier. I wanted to go paperless and I wanted a system that could easily organize my units. Schoology has folders to do that and resources to keep me and my students organized. It also has groups for all different subjects, which allows me to keep in the loop about new features and products that can benefit me and my classroom. There are elements that still could be updated, such as student annotation features or captioning on webinars for the Deaf, but the Schoology team has been very responsive and open to feedback and are always working to make changes, so I have no doubt that those features will appear soon.

Pros: I like the variety of questions that can be asked in a single homework/quiz assignment. Some question work well as multiple choice, but I also use ordering, fill in the blank and essay questions when they are more appropriate.

Cons: Editing one assignment for use in another class or unit is challenging as I am not able to select multiple questions at one time to remove. Selecting and removing one at a time with confirmation is very clunky.

Overall: Reduced time required to grade assignments.

Pros: Schoology does an amazing job of keeping students organized. One way in which I believe that Schoology is a high leverage educational tool is its ability to communicate with students and families. I love the intuitive design of the user interface, which allows me to provide the families I serve with information that they can quickly access and use to develop student knowledge. Also, it is a great way for parents to be connected right into the heart of a classroom. Schoology can be used in all types of classroom models from traditional to flipped learning.

Cons: I would like to see them continue to develop their assessment platform to provide more meaningful analytics of both group and individual performances. The new Assessment Tool is a work in progress and has great potential.

Pros: The first feature I like from Schoology is that wer were able to incorporate our Student Information System to Schoology. This allowed me to pull information that was already available instead of recreating users. Second, I was able to use a Single Sign On authentication with my users so they could use an existing account instead of having another set of credentials. Third, this has a Facebook feel which is great for users because most of them are already familiar with the facebook layout, which decreased the length of time it took for them to use the product.

Cons: Schoology has a lot features available for users to utilize. Unfortunately, a lot of these features take a lot of time to learn properly. Certain environments sometimes do not work properly.

Overall: Was an affordable LMS for my school.

Pros: Once set up schoology allows teachers to administer tests via digitally and have the results graded instantly. It also is a great way to make class announcements at any time of the day and give students feedback and reminders with the messaging feature. Lastly I have really enjoyed the ability to create a thread for students to comment. This is very useful for class discussions.

Cons: The interface could be better. It is difficult to enter in tests without making mistakes. And saving tests in banks is not user friendly.

I occasionally put Links from Khan Academy on my Schoology pages so students and parents can review the concept we covered in class. Schoology is a great classroom tool!

Cons: I wish it was a little easier to get students signed up at the beginning of the school year. Sometimes it takes into October to fill in my class memberships.

Pros: The ease of use of the system is a welcome break after attempting to use other programs such as Illuminate, which was not what I would call user friendly.

I would like to be able to transfer the results directly to Progress book.

Overall: I use it at least once a week for quick check quizzes for reading comprehension. It allows me to provide instant feedback to my students. Instead of having to grade multiple choice quizzes by hand or through a scan-tron, they are immediately scored.

Pros: I like that this is a format that students can easily know how to use (it looks almost exactly like Facebook) and works as a place where they can go to access all course format (assignments, reminders like rehearsal and concert dates, etc.) I don't use it for grading, but I know that some teachers do and like that feature as well. You can install the app on your phone in order to easily communicate that way, too. It's a must-have for teachers in the age of technology. If you are looking to "flip" your class, implement a blended learning model, or simply have a place to store resources, Schoology can do as little or as much as you want. Schoology is amazing! There is really nothing "bad" I can say about Schoology, other than you "may" get overwhelmed with all Schoology has to offer, but there are numerous tutorials available in the Schoology help center and on YouTube. You will not need any other management system. Schoology allows students to access class resources and materials, anywhere, anytime, as long as they have an internet connection. It gives teachers an area for communication and resource sharing. Schoology has it all.

Pros: Great system for allowing a web-based system to allow for students/teachers/parents to stay connected. Students can submit their homework, tests and all assignments thru the system. Can allow for great group conversation amongst teachers and students. Parents can check grades and performance via site or application.

Cons: The ability to link accounts for staff members to their parent accounts doesn't work correctly with the application. Support can also be delayed response in getting questions answered.

I have been using Schoology with my high school students for 3 years and I love it!

Comments: Pros (There are many, but these are my favorite things about Schoology.)

Schoology's layout is clean and is easy to use. Since the layout is similar to Facebook, students learn to navigate the site very quickly.

It's great for differentiating instruction because you can easily individually assign materials to students or groups. You can also add images, audio, video, etc. to materials to reinforce or remediate.

A setting in Discussions requires students to post an original comment before seeing other members' comments, which makes it very difficult to copy other members' ideas.

Question Banks can be created for tests/quizzes. When importing questions into a test, there is an option of choosing a Random Question Set. Using this feature, each time students take the test, they will get different questions.

Assignments can be easily aligned to State, Common Core, etc. standards.

The Schoology community is very supportive and helpful and the Help Center responds very quickly to any questions.

There are numerous apps (Google Drive, Kahn Academy, Remind, Evernote, Dropbox, Youtube, etc.) that are integrated into Schoology.

Cons

The only thing that I've found that I don't like is that I can't schedule announcements and updates to display at a later date.

Pros: Everything in my course is done through schoology - from course notes to blogs to paper submissions to grading with comments to class rosters and on and on. The interface in setting up the course is exceptionally easy and user friendly.

Cons: It is hard to get stuff set up so that students cannot use the 'Find' function to locate information on their open note quizzes and tests.

Recommendations to other buyers: Students find this program easy to use. It is also easy to make comments on students' papers, almost too easy. The learning curve to use this product is relatively quick.

Comments: I am overall happy with it and glad that it exists!

Pros: You can use schoology to keep tabs on grades, homework assignments, upcoming events, conferences, test results, you name it. That is very helpful.

Cons: The interface is hard to navigate and it seems like each thing you are looking for is not in the place that you would expect. Once you get used to navigating through the buttons and menus, this isn't an issue, but there is definitely a learning curve.

I have had a great experience with Schoology. It allows my students to have easy access to content.

Pros: My favorite thing about this software is the layout. I like how you can organize your content into folders, upload files, create assignments, and import resources from old courses you have taught.

Cons: I would say I wish the site had a better layout for alerts for when assessments come up in class. Right now I am putting the assessments in as assignments for the students, which confuses them sometimes!

I've used Schoology both as a student and as an instructor.

Pros: Schoology is likable to other social media platforms, in the sense that its easy and familiar to use/navigate, but unique in its focus on education. I like that schedules, assignments, and grading are all easy to navigate.

Cons: I find uploading graphics/ videos aren't as simple as they could be. Schoology could also probably use a remodel soon as far as the overall look goes.

Recommendations to other buyers: If your course uses a lot of videos/ photos/ graphics, Schoology is a little impractical. It's strength lies in text/ written assignments, discussions, etc.

Pros: 1. Simple and easy to use user interface 2. As our education system is changing this application amazingly provides the very thing that we need to make the classroom smarter. 3. As a student its easier to submit projects or assignments. And I think its easier for the teachers to keep track of the student's progress and also they can share any study material in forms of links or files.

Cons: I dont see any problem with this software. Frankly speaking I am completely happy with the performance. Fast and flawless. It provides what I need

Pros: Students can turn in work on schoology so I don't have to worry about so many papers and losing them. I like that I can input grades and students are able to see what their grades are and what assignments they are missing.

Cons: It can be tricky sometimes when students submit the same assignment more than once, but otherwise it's a really easy tool to use.

Pros: It is very user-friendly - anyone who has used social media recognizes the format.

Cons: For some reason, there has been a rash of random people joining my courses. There is a fix for this - to have people request access - but some kind of spam filter would be great. Also, students should be able to unenroll themselves from courses.

Recommendations to other buyers: Think holistically. Ask yourself, how would parents, students, other staff members see this product? What are compliments and complaints you have heard about it?

Pros: I like that it operates similar to Facebook. I also like that, since my staff is agreed to use it, we are uniformly able to refer students and parents to Schoology to get information from class.

Cons: I would be interested to see how assessments and attendance could be used through Schoology, but those are components that only work if a school pays for a subscription

Recommendations to other buyers: It is effective if you have a community of teachers using the platform. Otherwise, it may be a bit obtuse.

Comments: Schoology is great, it provides a solid platform for students and teachers to connect with each other. I am a huge fan of better communication because 91.5% of issues are communication related. Schoology aims to solve this.

Pros: One of the best features of Schoology is the ability to drip-feed content. Teachers can easily lock class pages until previous requirements have been met.

Cons: Like every LMS, one of Schoology's flaws is the inability to establish a deeper page/course hierarchy. School --> Courses --> Pages. Still waiting for an LMS that will offer more option (District? --> School --> Dept? --> Courses)

The software is easy to use for the educator as well as the learner. Everything is in one place.

Pros: There are numerous areas for communication. The Update feature allows for one way (educator to learner) or interactive (bi-directional) communication. You can have discussions in real time or as the users have the opportunity. You can also message between users.

Cons: There is little flexibility of the output and uses a great deal more paper than needed. I can't control the way it sorts documents and folders which makes it difficult to find something in Drive that I'm looking for.

Pros: I use SChoology for my daughter's school communication and it is simple. i like that i don't have to be in the app and it still sends me the email.

Cons: easier to use the app versus be online. yet i would access it more online then on my phone, but doesn't end up mattering much as i read the emails sent to me.
