August 23, 2025 4.0 I have worked as an EdTech for 3 years at a district that uses schoology as our LMS. I help teachers get onboarded each year and help them set up their gradebooks and courses. I also offer training on new features. I've had a very positive experience and find our representative to be great to work with. Pros Schoology is a great LMS that has the ability to post a variety of advanced coursework yet has an icon heavy easy to read navigations for young learners. Our district switched to standards based grading and we were able to make a customized gradebook with proficiency scales for standards in schoology. We also love the options for discussion boards and annotations in courses in schoology. Cons It is easy for teachers to share resources with students but not so much between teachers. They can create groups where the post materials for each other to use but there's not the google drive equivalent of "make a copy" for course or other larger material. Teachers end up recreating content from others that could easily be duplicated. Cons Really nothing of note! In the past, the limit to word docs would have been a hindrance, but it is no longer the case and it seamlessly works with Google apps. August 8, 2025 3.0 This learning management system is average at best, but I definitely do not recommend it as a top option. The UI is completely out of date and the site is overall unreliable. Pros Schoology provides a mobile app that allows you to view grades, access class resources, and turn in assignments as you would on the web. Additionally, it allows users to single sign on with their school Gmail account, which reduces the need for passwords. Cons The UI is generally out of date and the mobile app is definitely not the most user friendly. Additionally, the site doesn't allow you to remove parents associated with students and delete those accounts once you no longer want to check their grades. I never had any issues navigating the system and everything was straight-forward. I can easily find my grades, assignments, modules, and instructor information. A person really only needs about 15-20 minutes to understand the system layout. The only downfall is when there would be software issues with uploading assignments. Pros The main aspect I enjoyed the most about Schoology was layout design of the software. It was very simple to navigate between classes and assignments. It was also very simple to upload assignments and view the instructor feedback. I never had any issues with security so I never had to contact customer support. Cons The only issue I came across while using Schoology is sometimes bugs and issues would happen. There would be times I couldn't upload an assignment due to the software. This issue was easily resolved by contacting the teacher; which they spoke with customer support and figured out the issue. Review Source Chad N. It's simple to copy-forward courses each year. Pros The LockDown Browser enabled secure testing within the app. We have wrestled with other options at a device level and the in-browser version is great. There are some really good integrations to other systems as well. Cons It seems like it isn't maintained as well as the rest of the PowerSchool options. There are times that it seems that I have to make 15 clicks to do a necessary task within the app. However, I enjoy that I am able to categorize my items within each class and then also collect and view the data from certain assignments. I believe updating the software in order to make the app more user-friendly would be beneficial. Pros Schoology has a lot of features that are conducive to a high-fuctioning online learning program. Many things can be done within the program, such as connecting outside links, videos, and materials. Cons I have not be able to copy assignments from one course to another that include Google Docs. If I copy this type of an assignment, the Google Doc copy does not attach. I have to personally go into every class and reattach the assignment. My students and I use Schoology every single day. It's part of the curriculum. Pros Schoology has made my teaching life so much easier. I have used many different grade book apps/websites for over 15 years. Schoology is by far the best I've ever used. It's very easy to learn the ins and outs. I like that I can easily contact my students/parents if a problem arises. I have found it beneficial that students can view their current grades and see if they have any missing assignments. One of Schoology's best features is that you can import assignments through Blackbook. It will then grade students' responses automatically. It gives you the ability to create your assignments, edit previous assignments, and has a section where you can save every assignment over the years. Its made my life much easier since our county integrated Schoology. Cons I can't think of any cons except if you click through different pages too quickly it will give you an error. But this does not affect the overall quality of Schoology. Review Source Roykevin A. In general terms, it gets the job done: working as a learning management system that brings users an online experience for successful learning. Schoology introduced me to the online learning world and worked as required for the needs I had at those times. Pros Some features that stand for Schoology are simplicity and easy navigation. The platform design is really user-friendly and doesn't require a high IT knowledge to use. The "recent activity" tab is useful to follow ongoing discussions or catch up. It is the same for the dashboard tool, making it easier to surf among different courses. However, the top bar is just by far the most useful thing all over the platform. I have used different LMSs during my career, and I have always wished other platforms had this feature. Not only it helps me find my way around, but also makes me feel secure and organized about what I am doing. I really love this feature! Cons Some features that can be improved are the comment section and the tool for evaluations. Firstly, the comment section doesn't sort out comments following a useful pattern such as relevance. It only shows comments following the time of submission. I think this makes users miss great opportunities for interaction and knowledge sharing. The second feature that can be improved is the tool for evaluations. I think this puts a bar that limits tests to a simple questionnaire. I think having external features such as wall annotation or video response would expand the spectrum for grading and evaluation. Review Source VR Verified Reviewer Teaching Assistant Education Management Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Wonderful Course Management Platform" March 5, 2022 5.0 My overall experience with Schoology has been fantastic, and I would definitely recommend it to other instructors who are willing to give it a try. Pros What I like most about Schoology is its ability to allow the instructor to compile all necessary course information into one easy-to-use online portal. Via this portal, I am able to create and post assignments, mark down due dates, grade the aforementioned assignments, among a plethora of other essential tasks, such as attendance tracking, progress report generation, and managing regrade requests. I am also able to communicate with students directly through the portal, which is great just in case the students want to keep their personal email addresses private. Lastly, customer service is very friendly, convenient, and helpful any time I need them, (which is infrequent, as the platform lives up to its expectations on a regular basis without any mishaps, which is fantastic, especially for efficiency's sake). Cons There is honestly very little that I dislike about Schoology, as it really does help me manage my classroom in an efficient manner, eliminating all of the hassle I was occasionally confronted with prior to my implementation of the platform, (the same applies to the students' perspectives on the matter, according to a mini-survey I provided them with). With all that being said, however, if I were to choose one aspect which could be further improved upon, it would be the performance of the app on both Apple and Android devices. I occasionally receive complaints from students pertaining to random crashes of the app, assignments not being able to be submitted, and various other technical issues. I must add that these issues are rare, but it would be nice if they could be eliminated in their entirety. Other than that, there is really not much else I can report as being a negative. Reason for choosing Schoology I decided to choose Schoology over Gradescope due to having received positive reviews from other fellow instructors. I am happy I made the choice that I made. District Staff Development Coordinator Education Management Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Number 1 LMS on the Market" December 17, 2018 5.0 Overall, I can't imagine my experience both teaching using Schoology and leading professional development for teachers without Schoology. It has afforded me an opportunity to totally revamp my district's PD to something more teacher centered, self paced, and differentiated, by putting together an online database of modules tailored to our specific district needs. Pros This is hands-down my go-to LMS for education. Having used a variety of LMS programs out there, and having come from some such as Google Classroom, and 3DGameLab, Schoology is top notch. Constantly being updated, Schoology helps transition the focus from the teacher to the student. The best features are Schoology's ability to integrate with other tools, as teachers can embed edtech tools such as Padlet, Polleverywhere, Thinglink, etc into a Schoology assignment using their LTI integration. As they continue to partner with other edtech companies, some of these then become options within their platform. I have used their integrated Conferences, Lock Down Browser, and more. The ability to transition ownership to the students, monitor their work while letting them work at their own pace is truly remarkable and a game-changer in education. Cons There are some things I wish were available such as the ability to share an entire folder of contents with an individual student, or to set separate completion rules/dates for assignments within a folder. Not sure why these aren't options. I also think a way to automatically award badges upon completion would really help teachers cut down on time awarding them. Review Source Deanna S. Being a traveling teacher has its own unique set of obstacles, but Schoology has empowered me to bring my in-person style and flare to the digital space. I no longer feel as I am scatted around multiple classrooms. Each of my digital classrooms are organized in the same manner so there is a sense of structure to my instruction, just like a physical space would allow. Pros I love that I can use Schoology as a vehicle to personalization--personalization for student learning and personalization for my instruction. I am able to add/delete assignments for students. I can create assignments for specific groups of students. It is easier to use the same rubric for similar assignments because the rubric is already built and saved. I can deliver lessons in various methods. My instruction and assessment have become more transparent (and more fair!) for students due to these features. Cons The features that I most dislike about Schoology revolve around the integrations with Google Drive and TurnItIn. While I have long applauded the Google integration, I detest that the Google assignments (when submitted through this integration) are not time stamped. Also, my colleagues and I have found TurnItIn to be a bit more complicated than necessary to use. It is not intuitive, and rather difficult to explain to students. I often end up not using it. August 26, 2020 5.0 I've built many project-based and blended learning courses within the Schoology LMS that have allowed me to revolutionize the traditional classroom. We saw huge increases in student accountability and achievement, and tracking student progress has never been so easy. We also use Schoology to take asynchronous remote attendance with just a few clicks of a button. I am extremely proud of what my school has been able to accomplish with this platform. The feedback and ideas I get from both students and teachers continues to inspire me to take learning to the next level using Schoology. Our new virtual classroom is more fun, interactive, and engaging than ever before! Pros Schoology is packed with features that let educators customize their courses and content to meet the specific learning needs of various populations of students. The user interface is fresh, simple, and easy to navigate. Many popular external applications are already integrated and available to use within the Schoology platform and sync effortlessly with the gradebook. For me personally, I really appreciate the way I can build customized, authentic, and engaging assessments from their wide assortment of question types. Schoology also has a badge rewards system where teachers can reward students for accomplishing certain tasks. Schoology simply is super customizable with a ton of features that other LMS don't offer. Edmodo. Google Classroom. Each year of teaching seemed to bring with it another piecemeal LMS until we found Schoology! Schoology allows our teachers, students, admin and community to stay informed and connected. As a teacher, Schoology was easy to figure out due to its intuitive platform. I love the various features and app integrations that allow students to do much of their online learning within the platform avoiding third party site visits and lots of extra clicking. As an Enterprise user, I also appreciate the SIS integration with PowerSchool that automatically transfers student grades from Schoology. The group feature allows me to easily send updates about One-Act and Speech practice schedules or leave time reminders that can be routed to students' phones, and the groups also provide excellent PLNs for various topics. Admins have begun harnessing the power of online professional development modules via Schoology as well. Students enjoy the calendar view, which we have taught them to use like a planner and appreciate the quick feedback from assessments. Parents enjoy more transparency about what is going on at school and the media albums work great for capturing all of the awesome learning that needs to be recognized and celebrated. As a BlendEd Learning leader, Schoology is integral to day to day planning and organization. I also appreciate that Schoology is very responsive to user issues and requests. Their Client Success team is there to answer questions and trouble shoot when you need them, and the product developers are always taking suggestions and creating new features to make the platform more user friendly for teachers and students. Unlike previous platforms, Schoology is my one-stop shop that is here to stay! After four years of use, I couldn't imagine teaching without it! The integration of different tools, student motivation with badges, and the folder-creation ability make it a good choice for a school LMS. However, there are some functions that could be better. Making it more user-friendly for both teachers and students, and having functions like a missing assignment list could be considered to make Schoology a better product. Pros I found the folders setup to be very helpful so all content, assignments, and resources could be placed in the same folder. Sub-folders could also be added. Mimicking a computer storage system was helpful to many students. Next, the album feature was also very beneficial to display student work in a virtual environment. Also, badges can be given to students for positive reinforcement motivation. Finally, it was helpful to integrate tools such as Microsoft or Google products. Cons Due to having many folders, there is a lot of clicking for students to get to an assignment. Late assignments are marked missing and the teacher must manually make the correction. Pros I like Schoology because it's very easy to use, it's a great software for managing courses, it's also very good because you don't need to download the app, you can access your account through online and it's really helpful for users, especially those who don't have large storage like me. It's also very good in terms of making assessment. Cons So far this software is really good, however I think it's missing something and that is a meeting classroom for online learning, the management should try to look into this and take consideration to make improvements. Schoology allows for increased communication, collaboration, and connectedness among your class, content, and students. It is extremely easy to use, set up, and navigate for both instructors and students. Its integration with both Google and Microsoft365 increase the efficiency of assignment collection and grading than ever possible in a class without a Learning Management System. Schoology also provides a free version of their platform for teachers who may not be within an organization able to fund the full Enterprise version. I have integrated looms and google drive into the work and that is easy as well. I wish there was the ability to zoom from the Schoology site though. I also wish they had test banks of questions and assignments to pull from. Pros This software was given to us a few days prior to school but we were told it was what we were using for virtual teaching. Therefore a rough start but not Schoology's fault. The software was taught to us in a quick fashion but was easy to use once I got the hang of it. I am learning more as time goes by and am pleased with how easily students and an older teacher such as myself can learn. The integration of materials is easy and allows for individualized learning and assessment for our diverse student body. Cons I do not like the setup for assessment being in a different place than the due dates. I wish it was all in one easy place such as when setting up the assessment. I also wish the bulk edit button had a link to alter questions if a mistake was found so I do not have to go looking for the assessment.
