August 23, 2025 4.0 I have worked as an EdTech for 3 years at a district that uses schoology as our LMS. I help teachers get onboarded each year and help them set up their gradebooks and courses. I also offer training on new features. I've had a very positive experience and find our representative to be great to work with. Pros Schoology is a great LMS that has the ability to post a variety of advanced coursework yet has an icon heavy easy to read navigations for young learners. Our district switched to standards based grading and we were able to make a customized gradebook with proficiency scales for standards in schoology. We also love the options for discussion boards and annotations in courses in schoology. Cons It is easy for teachers to share resources with students but not so much between teachers. They can create groups where the post materials for each other to use but there's not the google drive equivalent of "make a copy" for course or other larger material. Teachers end up recreating content from others that could easily be duplicated. We are now a Goofle school, so I haven’t used it in a couple of years. Pros The ability to recreate a class with ease and hide/unhide assignments makes the school year a breeze to organize! Cons Really nothing of note! In the past, the limit to word docs would have been a hindrance, but it is no longer the case and it seamlessly works with Google apps. It's simple to copy-forward courses each year. Pros The LockDown Browser enabled secure testing within the app. We have wrestled with other options at a device level and the in-browser version is great. There are some really good integrations to other systems as well. Cons It seems like it isn't maintained as well as the rest of the PowerSchool options. Average LMS At Best." August 8, 2025 3.0 This learning management system is average at best, but I definitely do not recommend it as a top option. The UI is completely out of date and the site is overall unreliable. Pros Schoology provides a mobile app that allows you to view grades, access class resources, and turn in assignments as you would on the web. Additionally, it allows users to single sign on with their school Gmail account, which reduces the need for passwords. Cons The UI is generally out of date and the mobile app is definitely not the most user friendly. Additionally, the site doesn't allow you to remove parents associated with students and delete those accounts once you no longer want to check their grades. I think Schoology has many great qualities, but this appears to differ based on what level the district purchases of this platform. I also like that Schoology provides a central location for assignments, course materials, etc. It also allows parents to access class assignments and their student’s grades. Pros I liked the ability to have grades, assignments, and course materials on one platform. Cons Schoology was not as user friendly as other platforms such as Google Classroom. You could also only attach 1 link or doc at a time. I never had any issues navigating the system and everything was straight-forward. I can easily find my grades, assignments, modules, and instructor information. A person really only needs about 15-20 minutes to understand the system layout. The only downfall is when there would be software issues with uploading assignments. Pros The main aspect I enjoyed the most about Schoology was layout design of the software. It was very simple to navigate between classes and assignments. It was also very simple to upload assignments and view the instructor feedback. I never had any issues with security so I never had to contact customer support. Cons The only issue I came across while using Schoology is sometimes bugs and issues would happen. There would be times I couldn't upload an assignment due to the software. This issue was easily resolved by contacting the teacher; which they spoke with customer support and figured out the issue. With Schoology I can create folders to quickly access and organize material. It is so helpful to have everything in one place for both students and teachers. Pros Schoology makes it easy to create different types of quizzes and tests, and makes grading even easier. I am also notified when I have a test or assessment that I need to do. I also love that I can see and track my scores and progress in my course. Pros Schoology was used when we transitioned from face-to-face to online classes. At first, since I was a first-time user, I thought it would be so hard to navigate since I am not tech-savvy. I also thought it would be so intimidating and complicated, but it proved me wrong. It was indeed beginner-friendly and very easy to use for students and even professors. Cons I have honestly nothing against Schoology because it was one of the biggest help I had when I transitioned from face-to-face classes to online classes. Review Source Philip P. All of my course content is in Schoology and since I teach using the flipped classroom model, the switch to fully online learning in the spring was pretty much seamless for all my students with home internet access. I am also a Schoology Ambassador. Pros Our district uses Schoology as a district-wide Learning Management System (LMS). We switched to Schoology last year and I use Schoology for almost all of my course work. I teach using the flipped classroom model and Schoology's platform allows me to share my lecture videos, conduct assessments of student knowledge and understanding, give assignments, and to provide communication with students and parents. All of my content is available to my students through Schoology 24/7, I can make it available in a variety of ways, and I can make updates in real-time. Schoology's introduction of the Google Assignment App has me excited about our switch to Chromebooks. This app allows you to attach a Google Doc (say a study guide) as part of an assignment. When students open the assignment the document is copied, renamed, and added to their Google Drive. No more students opening or copying a new version of the document each time they go back to the assignment instead of to the copy they made but didn't actually rename as the directions stated. The document is 'tied' to the assignment and updates no matter where they work on it from (inside the assignment or through their Google Drive.) I also use the platform’s completion rules to give students autonomy while also keeping them on track. Another great option is the ability to add images to pages, updates, announcements, and folders to give visual information, help guide students, and give them access options. I also am able to hyperlink Cons While they've done a great job updating the product, however, I wish the pace of that was faster. For example, they introduced a new "Assessments" feature that was to eventually replace the "Test/Quiz" feature once it had all of the same options. While the question types in Assessments are nicer, it is two years later and it is still missing features of Test/Quiz including the ability to comment on individual student questions, auto-correction and rescoring if you made a mistake in setting up the correct answer in a question, and importantly, they still have not added a question test bank option for Assessments. Without the option to randomly pull questions from question banks I still use Test/Quiz for later end of unit assessments and semester exams. Reason for choosing Schoology Canvas was too expensive and Hapara was essentially just a dashboard for Google Classroom at the time. Schoology had all of the features of Canvas for less (now it has more features) and having come from another LMS, we didn't was to use Google Classroom as it is not nearly robust enough. Several improvements have been made but it could use an overhaul of some features such as messaging. It is slow and does not keep students’ messages by class. I would not want to miss it Pros Schoology is a one stop Learning Platform integrating everything from assignments to self grading quizzes and tests. Sequencing and dating materials is a great return to have. Cons Cumbersome at the beginning (for non-users of free version) as we had to learn quickly yo get used to the platform. Since executing Schoology we have had the advantage to see various key new options be added to the stage incorporating LockDown Tests with Respondus, the AMP and Dominance Learning highlight, the Portfolio includes, and the impending improved Google Docs combination. Pros Permits reconciliation with our school's report (grades are consequently imported to report cards for students and parents to see).Schoology has a straightforward and simple-to-utilize interface - it's easy to coordinate your study hall such that it checks out for the specific class you are instructing. Cons While composing remarks on task, the default is to NOT show the remarks to understudies - so that understudies might see, you should click a container prior to submitting and it is basically impossible to change that setting. It is terrific for students and parents to easily have access to resources, grades, and the ability to communicate with teachers. This is an amazing platform that I highly recommend! Pros I love the fact that I can easily organize my classroom with students. I can see grades in real-time, provide meaningful resources quickly, and communicate regularly with students and parents. Edmodo. Google Classroom. Each year of teaching seemed to bring with it another piecemeal LMS until we found Schoology! Schoology allows our teachers, students, admin and community to stay informed and connected. As a teacher, Schoology was easy to figure out due to its intuitive platform. I love the various features and app integrations that allow students to do much of their online learning within the platform avoiding third party site visits and lots of extra clicking. As an Enterprise user, I also appreciate the SIS integration with PowerSchool that automatically transfers student grades from Schoology. The group feature allows me to easily send updates about One-Act and Speech practice schedules or leave time reminders that can be routed to students' phones, and the groups also provide excellent PLNs for various topics. Admins have begun harnessing the power of online professional development modules via Schoology as well. Students enjoy the calendar view, which we have taught them to use like a planner and appreciate the quick feedback from assessments. Parents enjoy more transparency about what is going on at school and the media albums work great for capturing all of the awesome learning that needs to be recognized and celebrated. As a BlendEd Learning leader, Schoology is integral to day to day planning and organization. I also appreciate that Schoology is very responsive to user issues and requests. Their Client Success team is there to answer questions and trouble shoot when you need them, and the product developers are always taking suggestions and creating new features to make the platform more user friendly for teachers and students. Unlike previous platforms, Schoology is my one-stop shop that is here to stay! After four years of use, I couldn't imagine teaching without it! The integration of different tools, student motivation with badges, and the folder-creation ability make it a good choice for a school LMS. However, there are some functions that could be better. Making it more user-friendly for both teachers and students, and having functions like a missing assignment list could be considered to make Schoology a better product. Pros I found the folders setup to be very helpful so all content, assignments, and resources could be placed in the same folder. Sub-folders could also be added. Mimicking a computer storage system was helpful to many students. Next, the album feature was also very beneficial to display student work in a virtual environment. Also, badges can be given to students for positive reinforcement motivation. Finally, it was helpful to integrate tools such as Microsoft or Google products. Cons Due to having many folders, there is a lot of clicking for students to get to an assignment. Late assignments are marked missing and the teacher must manually make the correction. Pros I like Schoology because it's very easy to use, it's a great software for managing courses, it's also very good because you don't need to download the app, you can access your account through online and it's really helpful for users, especially those who don't have large storage like me. It's also very good in terms of making assessment. Pros Schoology is a turn-key solution for any school, college, university looking to deploy blended/hybrid learning or develop online courses. Schoology allows for increased communication, collaboration, and connectedness among your class, content, and students. It is extremely easy to use, set up, and navigate for both instructors and students. Its integration with both Google and Microsoft365 increase the efficiency of assignment collection and grading than ever possible in a class without a Learning Management System. Schoology also provides a free version of their platform for teachers who may not be within an organization able to fund the full Enterprise version. I could easily see my Spanish students’ progress and didn’t have to worry about trying to add scores to PowerSchool since it automatically synced. I could also see every class my EL students had and could see what they needed to complete or needed extra support with. Pros I loved being able to assign and see student progress. We also had the option of deciding what needed to be teacher graded. My favorite feature of all was that it automatically integrated and synced with PowerSchool. Cons It took some time to get used to adding standards and just using it, but after that I don’t feel like there was anything negative.
